Samsung S6 with strange chinese firmware please help! - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought a Galaxy S6 and have discovered that it has some weird ass Chinese firmware which is very frustrating.
I would love some help rooting the phone or flashing a different ROM to it since it's pretty useless to me.
A couple things I've noticed so far is that the model number on the back says SM-G920F while in the settings it says SM-G9200!!
Also it doesn't seem to have download mode, when I press power + volume down + home button it boots into a menu with a bunch of chinese that I dont understand...
It says it's running Android version 5.0.2
Baseband version: G9200ZCU1AOD9,G9200ZCU1AOD9
Kernel version
3.10.54
[email protected]#16
Fri Jun 5 16:07:57 CST 2015
Build Number
LRX22G.G9200ZCU1AOD9
Custom build version
SEPF_SM_G920F_5.0.2_0008
I would love to root the phone but my firmware version doesnt seem to match any of the rootable ones

Sounds rather shady, but if the phone truely is G920F, you should have little issue installing the unbranded firmware.
Checkout these two threads. They might help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...al/howto-flash-g92xf-t-tripping-knox-t3158606
As a side note, the reason PingPongRoot does not work, is because your kernel build date is June 9; the exploit was matched May 15

Oh yeah it's ultra shady, but I'm like 95% sure its a legit S6!
I sure hope installing different software is a breeze, but for now I'm still confused because none of those firmwares match the firmwares listed, and I really don't wanna brick my phone.
Also if I figure out which firmware to flash I can't get into ODIN!! So how can I flash?
Thank you very much for the reply

I found the firmware my phone is running!!!! It is the China (Open China) firmware for the SM-G9200 and the build number matches mine.
I can't post the link but if you search for SM-9200 on Sammobile you can find my build
However my phone physically says SM-G920F on the back... I only decided to search through the SM-G9200 because thats the model number listed under about phone.

Since your phone says on the back G920F you should install the firmware for the international edition.
There is a variety to choose from, but the unbranded firmware would be best.
G920FXXU2COH2 is the latest for G920F
Give it a try, but be cautious.
Follow the instructions in the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/stock-firmware-official-stock-firmware-t3086387
An app that would give you far more information on the phone is here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en

You are right about it showing a bunch of firmwares, but it has a link to a webpage that gives clear instructions on how to use/install the firmware, right between the warning and the disclaimer.

I still can't post links but if you wanna see the menu just do imgur . com / 92g9dRk

Baidu is notorious for its download software for big files. If you have problems with that, you can install Firefox and a plugin called User Agent Switch, switch your Firefox user agent to IE3.0 and visit baidu again, then you can use download software, like IDM to download big files freely, without its b*s download manager...

Hi,
I am not a dev and my knowledge on flashing and rooting is only from reading posts. Can I ask for a little advice and maybe instructions? Is it possible the rom from link can help with my situation described below?
I bought honor 8 frd al10 from china. The sim doesn't initiate. I firstly loaded android wear from play store to pair with my Huawei Watch. A message popped up saying 'this phone was flashed with unsupported config for companion. you must reflash it as either signed/user or unsigned/userdebug'. I tried to get help from seller but that's no use and they referred me to xda. They say my rom is EU. In the settings, the build is FRD-C900B120. IMEI and MEID are showing as unknown. There is no Baseband version showing. I am not an expert but I know this ain't right. After watching some of the videos, I used ADB to get to fastboot. It says device unlocked. This is where i get stuck and don't know what else to do. I simply want this phone to work as it is intended to. Help, please.
Edit: I forgot to add that reset to factory settings does not work. goes to 13% and says failed.
Also, when I type in a code in dialler to get product ID to get bootloader unlock code from Huawei, nothing happens so I am stuck if the bootloader is not unlocked.
There is no OEM unlock option in the dev options.

It looks like your phone and your ROM are in some twisted status: they are not match.
If you really use AL10 from China, there is a method to fully restore your phone to original status (AL10 original ROM). But I have to remind you the risk first, backup all your contacts to PC/GoogleContacts/Exchange before you proceed.
If you are ready, go to this post below, follow the instructions on 2nd post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/help/honor-8-rooted-twrp-modaco-rom-unable-t3462039
1. Download AL10 stock rom from my Mega link.
2. Extract necessary files using method above.
3. Follow the rest of instructions.
Now you fully go back to Stock AL10 phone as when it was sold in China and you can start to work from there.
If you don't like China stock ROM, what you can do is Debrand/Rebrand your phone which means, in simple, you change some parameters in your phone, to let your phone and ROM thinks it is from some other region, like EU/ME.
You can find details about Debrand/Rebrand method and video guide in following 2 posts:

Wow. First of all, thank you kindly. Looks like a load of work. I will try it and I really appreciate your help and your time.
The device is AL10 as per box/back of the device itself. There is nothing on this phone I would care to loose. Its like this straight out of the box. I don't mind what software I am using as long as I can make calls, use internet, pair my watch, download apps from play store (i understand this may be the issue with Chinese rom). I think what seller was intending to do is the debranding to make it EU.
If you don't mind, I will contact you (quote) if I encounter issues on the way.

Most HUAWEI's phones come with Google Play Services installed, what you need is Google Play Store, if I didn't remember it wrong.
From what I read, a proper debrand should never put your phone in a mess up status, but I haven't done that myself. If you can take time, maybe can study that SRK tool and debrand it yourself. Anyway, now you know you will have the final restore weapon.

I am either doin something wrong or this is not fixable.
I've tried and force update by putting update.app into dload on internal storage on phone. updating stopped after 3 % failed and asked to reboot.
I've tried reboot in bootloader and in adb typed 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' which i first extracted from update.app. I get: sending recovery OKAY, writing recovery FAILED <remote: command not allowed>

It feels like your phone is not properly unlocked or somehow relocked, maybe you should try to unlock your phone again.
Here is the post for your reference:

You may have troubles in finding these in your phone according to your previous post, try the code below.
1. Your phone serial number (this can be found in Settings -> About -> Status)
open dial pad and enter *#*#2846579#*#*, should be some options called "board basic info", and then "others" (I translate from Chinese website, maybe not accurate)

Thank you again.
The last is not possible as it returns nothing at all. I'll attempt Huawei live chat support on Monday in hope they can help with unlock code.
First two are printed on the box and the back of phone. There is also a sticker on the back of it with Chinese writing and some combination of letters and numbers. I doubt they are the product ID.

[SOLVED] Root G930F running 6.0.1

Hi everyone!
I'm trying to root my G930F running 6.0.1. I downloaded the corresponding CF-Auto-Root from https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ and flashed it using the integrated Odin. After that my phone didn't boot anymore. I got an exception from the bootloader (same as in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/s7-edge-bug-t3331878).
Luckily I was still able to get into download mode. So installed TWRP and flashed SuperSU (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/recovery-official-twrp-herolte-t3333770). Flashing SuperSU yielded some exceptions.
After a restart, my phone was working again and I was very relieved. Still the phone is not rooted. So I'm wondering what I am doing wrong, how can I root my phone?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Wow, you are fast, thank you for taking the time! I used the Odin that came with the CF-Auto-Root. The file is called "Odin3-v3.10.6.exe", so I guess it's the wrong version. Do you think I should try again with the newer version? After the first attempt I'm a bit scared I could brick my phone.
Do you have a link to the appropriate Odin verison?
Just out of curiosity, do you know the reason, why it doesn't work with older versions of Odin?
As the phone is important for me, I tried hard not to be stupid and to follow the guides. I checked multiple sources, but I didn't come across the information about a specific version of Odin. Normally I use guides from xda-developers as they are good and reliable. The info thread links to the following thread for rooting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/sm-g930-exynos-cf-auto-root-t3337353
There was no mention of a specific Odin version. I'm not trying to blame my mistake on someone else, just trying to find out how I can prevent a similar mistake the next time.
Ok, found a credible source for the download: http://odindownloader.com/download/odin3-v3-12-5
Got there starting from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odin_(firmware_flashing_software)
I'm always a bit paranoid I could get some virus instead of the legit software.

I guess just reading through threads, not just the main post, and if unsure, make a post in that thread asking what you are unsure about before jumping in
This is my copy of 3.12.3
Code:
https://mega.nz/#!acoGhA7a!17OPP5A1g9d7-GxAqCbjXFpmYfO7CgAHNcaZxqEkOao
Not sure why older versions are not compatible, I assume newer phone model & new(ish) Android version = New ODIN version needed to support them
Make sure you use the latest version of CF -Auto Root for your model S7 too (G930F)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/sm-g930-exynos-cf-auto-root-t3337353

You are my hero! Now it works and is rooted. So the problem really was the outdated version of Odin that came with CF-Auto-Root.

SM-G930A 6.0.1 unlocked running on T-Mobile flash to SM-G930T 8.0?

Hey guys,
My dad has a SM-G930A 6.0.1 unlocked running on T-Mobile. It is starting to show it's age (battery drain, apps not running like they should, etc.) and is still stuck on 6.0.1.. From my understanding, it should be possible to flash to SM-G930T, however I am a bit lost as to where to begin the process to do so. I tired going straight to 8.0 by flashing the SM-G930T 8.0 firmware files but this didn't work (I didn't think it would work, but it was worth a try). With that said, would it be better for me to just stick to updating to SM-G930A 7.0 via the guides posted, or is there a way for me to Flash the SM-930T 8.0 firmware? Thanks in advance.

Wow you guys really get screwed over there in the US with cell phones. It's a pain in the a** to do anything with your phones.
Anyway I'm guessing the phone was originally AT&T right? And now it's unlocked to any carrier.
If you just want to update the phone to the latest firmware then just flash AT&T Oreo. It won't affect the SIM it will still work as before.
If you want to flash any other firmware including T Mobile then you'll need to unlock the bootloader on the device and that's a whole different ball game. With plenty of guides on how to online.
Make sure you back up all the things you want to keep before flashing

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate the direction. You are right, US phones are a pain. And yes, the phone was originally an AT&T phone, but was unlocked.
As for unlocking the bootloader, I've found different sources that say that unlocking the bootloader on this particular phone is not possible with this particular phone. I did read something about an engineering bootloader being used to get around a locked bootloader for rooting. Could this be used for flashing as well?

That's not entirely true. Using Odin you can flash any USA firmware onto any other USA device, no bootloader unlocking required.
It's very common for people to flash G930U over their G930V/T/A/P devices to remove bloatware

It's unstable and only lets the device charge up to 80%, your best bet woulld just be a full flash with Odin
This guide is a bit dated but it's the best one out there. Just make sure you google the latest Odin and use all 4 firmware files when flashing https://updato.com/how-to/how-to-install-an-official-samsung-stock-firmware-using-odin

Thanks for the reply! I had tried flashing the 8.0 G930T variant last night with the latest version of Odin and the PrinceComsy version and got a Model Mismatch error. I read that the modified Odin3 v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD would let me flash the firmware and ignore the Model Mismatch error. However, I didn't go through with it because I was not sure if I would brick my phone and instead erred on the side of caution and made my post here. Would I be safe to flash the files from SM-G930T_1_20180625111401_xf3965l42p_fac onto my current device?
If your firmware files are from a trusted source like sammobile, updato or samfirmtool then it should be fine
Odin3 v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD seems to have positive feedback here on XDA so should be fine too https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572

Greetings-
I apologize for jumping in an already created thread, but I think I am in the same situation, and like to verify with you both before I use the advice please. I have a SM-G930T that I just purchased, and really like to run a custom rom. But I understand I can not because I have Android 8 on it. I know how to use Odin, and have the latest version plus you guys talked about it here. I have also already downloaded the stock rom from sammobile site. What are my options? Is there a rom I can flash the phone with using Odin that would provide better performance, less G..bage, and more battery life? Is there a way for me to root the phone? I really need an app that requires the phone to be rooted.
Thanks

Ok, so flash any unbranded Stock Rom for your device using this version of Odin which has been specifically modified to flash US devices. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572 PatcheD.zip is the file you want to download.
Then when you have checked the phone is working ok on undrnaded firmware you can go ahead and root the device using this method which is again for US Qualcomm devices. https://www.****************/2018/0...on-galaxy-s7-and-s7-edge-on-android-8-0-oreo/
Take you time and read instructions.

If I understand it correctly there is no unbranded firmware for the US, its all network specific but you can flash unbranded UK firmware and it will work fine, UK BTU is the one you want from sammobile.
Load into the modified version of Odin and flash.
This is what I found, and downloading.

Yes that's the right one but like the beanvee and i have said there is a specific way to flash this stock then root the device.
You also need Samsung USB drivers installed so your pc can talk to your device, there's plenty of guides around how to flash with Odin and what you need to do beforehand, the only difference with you is the version of Odin your using and then the method of rooting afterwards.

Thanks. I have used Odin before, and I already downloaded the patchD version of Odin from the link. Thank you so much. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out. I still do not have a verified version of a custom recovery for this. Do you guys know of any? I found this link but the link to the suggested twrp does not work. I think it is this one. But I can not be sure. The original link points to a slightly different url.

Nope do not use that TWRP, it will flash TWRP but not boot it and you'll be stuck on Samsung logo forever.
There is still no way to unlock a Qualcomm snapdragon bootloader and i'm not sure anyone is working on it anymore.
All it means is you need to flash custom Roms via Odin or possibly the inbuilt S7 recovery, you just need to check the ROM is in a format which can be flashed that way.
With regards to finding a TWRP solution you'll have to do some serious searching on google and read everything.
There are already several de-bloated stock Roms on the forum if thats what you want to do. Root and custom recovery TWRP are two different things though, you get rooted so your good to go?

Yes root is my main goal, and you are right the debloated roms will work just fine. I can do w/o twrp. Just double checking here; since I am flashing the UK rom, and I believe one of the comments on this thread was how US images are locked tighter, would not I be able to find a UK version of TWRP for my phone? Just checking.

Now pull up a chair and listen closely.....99% of the American devices (including yours) have an extremely uncooperative Qualcommm Snapdragon cpu at it's heart and thus refuses point blank to play ball. The online community have done a fantastic job creating the modifications you are now using. The rest of the world (i'm happy to say) enjoy the S7 with an extreamly cooperative Exynos cpu at it's heart. It just loves to be fiddled with, it's a whore of a chip, constantly on the go with all kinds of neat tricks.
Anyhoo... my point is, the software has to be compatible with the hardware you catch my drift? All the cool little programs are written with a specific piece of hardware in mind, unfortunately for you guys Qualcomm is the ice queen.

Pretty self explanatory as to the how & the why, TL;DR is I needed to flash AT&T firmware onto a unlocked Samsung S22 Ultra [obtained directly from the company store]
Question is now, how do I restore the original firmware onto the phone. I've tried searching the web wide & I can't seem to find any firmware that is original from the 'factory.' That said I must admit I am very new to this.
Hard reseting does not restore it as I should expect but I thought I'd try anyways
Any help greatly appreciated.
If you rooted it the Knox efuse has been tripped, no way to undo this. The Knox features will no longer function regardless of firmware, it's a hardware eprom like device in the chipset.
So if that's the reason to reflash... that bridge has been burned.
Try posting in the thread you linked for more help if you still want to reflash to the stock firmware.
oof. Welp, good thing is I'm not too worried about that feature.
I thought about posting there, but I figured I'd open a thread instead of bogging down posted answers/replies which I thought were useful.
Also bigger net type of deal w/a post.
But, if nothing else that's probably what I'll do.
By chance, would you happen to know where I could find factory firmware?

Sesech for FRIJA. It's a Windows Application that will download the factory firmware.
Good thing is USA versions can't be rooted at the moment. Even better thing is firmware is pretty easy to find. Assuming your model number ends in u1 you usually just have to type in your model number and carrier after it. I just did one last night from tmobile to unlocked firmware. Let me know this information and I'll link you your firmware your gonna need

That is good, thank you for correcting me
The Samsung Experience centers at Best Buy also have the stock firmware versions.
Unless you need a AT&T app the two versions probably aren't going to behave much different.
I have a N975U and a N975U1, both are nearly identical in operation and setup. Both are compatible with the AT&T network.

Need help to find out which phone is this and its stock rom (or at least a custom rom)

I've been looking for a way to "fix" this phone for almost 1 week now. I've disassembled it and managed to note an alphanumeric sequence on its motherboard which I believe is its model.
First things first: this phone's touch screen is not working, but I've checked the motherboard and it seems just fine, which led me to believe there's a problem with the firmware, then I've checked the firmware using recovery mode and it seemed odd, it seemed like the phone isn't using its original firmware.
Here's the info that I found using recovery mode:
SW Ver.
alps-mp-m0.mp1-V2.39 _magc6580.we.c.m_P32
Custom Build Veno. :
V207IF3_QHD1200_M_V1.0_2_16_20200808_1758_V1.0.5_B125_HUAX_V50C3_WELCOME_S20_PLUS_PRO_DS
I'm attaching pictures too.
This phone was handed to me, so I have no reference at all. I've searched everywhere I could online and I couldn't find this model for sale, I couldn't even find a phone that looks exactly like this, but some were pretty close, like the Huawei P40 and the S20+ Pro clone, but after searching for that alphanumeric sequence, which I believe it's the actual model number, I've come across the WOLKI WS680, but I couldn't find its firmware for downloading.
FLASHING A FLASHY PHONE
I've downloaded and tried to flash the ROM MT6580__MFT__I7__I7__6.0__alps-mp-m0.mp1-V2.39_magc6580.we.c.m_P21, which seems to be the same that was in the phone, but the phone didn't turn on anymore after this (I believe it bricked). I didn't take backup before doing this, please don't blame me, It's been many years since I've done this kind of thing on a Chinese phone.
Any other rom that I tried just throws a DRAM error in SP Flash Tools, I'm also not able to format the phone (it also throws an error).
The error:
ERROR : S_FT_ENABLE_DRAM_FAIL (4032)
WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR:1 - I need to find the right ROM firmware for this phone, please somebody give me a download link. A custom rom would be good too.
2 - I need to know which exactly is this phone's brand and model (because I need to know its hardware specs).
Please help me find at least the firmware.

I don't know and that's the problem with exotic phones. Good luck with that.
This kind of copied / rebranded phones can also be found outside of China. So, whenever you buy a smartphone be sure to reach an authorized seller or take a closer look at the phone’s aspects.
My recommendation: Ask phone's seller for help.
"This phone was handed to me, so I have no reference at all."
There's nothing I can do about talking to a seller. I'm here just asking for a rom that might work with this mediatek, it doesn't mean that it needs to be the Stock ROM.
Can anyone tell me a workaround for this? it doesn't need to be the stock rom.
