I've had the Moto G 2015 for a few weeks now and noticed something strange. Whenever I get a call I immediately lose LTE and drop down to 3G (This phone does not tell you what kind of 3G you are on, probably HSPA+ but not sure). When the call is over it takes a while to get back on an LTE signal. The phone is 100% stock, and I'm on TMO post-paid in Southern Cali. Any thoughts?
Same as most other LTE phones that do not support VoLTE.. There is only one radio, it can't do voice and LTE data at the same time.

question for you since u are T-Mobile user.
Does Moto g 2015 band 12 data service obtain the full service lte inside the building or band 12 locked out?

I'm not a T Mobile user, I use AT&T, your original question wasn't really carrier specific even though you said you have tmobile, it happens with every carrier. My understanding with band 12 on T Mobile is it is only for voice over LTE and nothing else, but it is kind of irrelevant since Motorola has removed band twelve from the G.

We switched from Sprint to AIO. I got the Nexus 5 and the wife got a Moto G. My wife is getting around 2 mbps down at best and it says 3g. I'm concerned it's just normal HSPA and not HSPA+. Is there a way to tell which it's on? For the record, when I turn LTE off on my nexus, I hit the data cap of 3.5-4 mbps on HSPA+.

Depending on which model you purchased, your Moto G may or may not support HSPA or HSPA+. If you purchase the unlocked USA GSM model, it does have HSPA+. If you bought the global model, it's strictly 3G only.

.... thats a bunch of misinformation. All the models have HSPA+. The US models only show 3G on screen even when connected to HSPA+ (if you dont believe me there are several ways to check). With AIO either of the US models or the international models will work just fine (as it runs on ATT's network) the only time you really need to worry about network compatibility is if you are buying the phone to run on T-Mobile as you will need the US model instead of the Global model.

Ah sorry, I guess I was misinformed. I must have been confused about the model that T-Mobile requires.

no worries. There seems to be a ton of confusion out there about this phone and which model to use. Motorola should add a chart or something on their site to clear it all up.
Just checked mine there now hspa+ and downloads of between 3.5 and 5 Mbps in my house ,other days I can get up to 9 Mbps,UK stock ROM rooted on giffgaff network,Posted screenshots of speeds that I get in my bathroom which are usually poor compared to rest of house
I am using the phone on a T-Mobile network. For the APN I have the IPv6 setting, for some reason the icon next to the signal bars is only H+ not LTE. Was wondering if that was just me? If is just me is there a way to get LTE? I know that this phone support LTE.
Thanks.
which model is it? (D68xx..) might not support the LTE bands that T-mobile has
which area are you located in? perhaps your area doesn't have/weak LTE signal

Indeed. Also of note, Tmo LTE only works on a more recent SIM. I tried a cut down 5 year old SIM and no LTE.
Thanks for the info!
I'll admit that I didn't do proper research prior to buying the unlocked device. After reading more into T-Mobile bands, they said that by the end of this year they will be releasing band 2 which is the 700mhz. Since this model supports that I'm guessing I can get lte?
Please clarify this for me. Thanks.
Hi Everyone,
I picked up the phone during the EBAY $249.00 sale and really like the phone, however I hated the ATT Bloatware.. I flashed the PR 5.1.1 firmware and really like how clean it is, however I am not getting good speeds on Tmobile. In the mobile network settings there is no option for LTE. I have gone into the service menu and changed the band to 4 and can get LTE, however it is really slow, I have also chosen band 17 and getting OK speeds using HSPA+, however no LTE and when I reboot the phone it resets the bands to the default settings...
Any one have any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris
I am also having the same problems. I actually have a working AT&T SIM, and I can verify the LG phone can pick up LTE 100% , but with a T-Mobile SIM I can only get HSPA+ (using LTE discovery). I am testing this literally in front of the T-Mobile headquarters in the Seattle area, so I think this is unlikely to be some sort of cell tower issue. My iPhone is using LTE in the same location without any issues. When I use 277634#*# and select band 17 and GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto , it seems to trigger LTE once a a while, but it never holds for too long.
By the way, I am intrigued that someone in Youtube says it is possible to enable band 12 for this H950 model (just search "band 12 LG Flex 2 T-mobile" in Youtube). Maybe this is fake info?!?

I imported the 8141 from Clove in the UK. So far, my only real issue is I have yet to see it connect to LTE. I've seen "4G" and "4G+", but no LTE...which is a problem because I can barely pick up a signal other than LTE in my area. I checked and confirmed it's using the correct APN (fast.t-mobile.com). I'm on the 110/unlimited/unlimited $30/month prepaid plan and confirmed I haven't hit the LTE cap. If I put the SIM back in my Moto X Pure/Play, it hops on LTE without a problem.
Everything I've read says the radio should support T-Mobile's frequencies. Is there another setting somewhere I need to change? Do I need to flash another region's stock ROM (and is that even possible yet)? Did I get a lemon? Do I need to hold it a certain way like whatever iPhone it was a couple years back?
Any and all suggestions are welcome.
4G+ is the UK's LTE as far as iconography is concerned. Have you done a speediest on 4G+?
I've noticed the same thing, but I (as mentioned above) thought that LTE and 4G+ were synonymous. I think the only reason to flash a region based image would be to enable radio bands that are disabled based on location (which may be in this case).
Works fine here. Lower Manhattan using same version.
4G is LTE in US.
Download LTE Discovery and you'll be able to see if it is connected to LTE or HSPA(+). Mine, also from Clove, is just fine with AT&T LTE.

You are looking at the signals wront, I'm on T-Mobile and have 4G+ as well it's the UK version of LTE. Look at my screenshot.

4G is basically the same thing as LTE in this case. 4G includes WiMax and LTE. So when you see "4G" it means you're using LTE. The same goes with 4G+ - LTE-Advanced (LTE+).
I have LTE logo on my Z3 while Z5 Premium shows 4G while using the same network.
4G is LTE in europe. We did not have that silliness that some 3,5G was called 4g. Also there is no band limitations on XZ Premium.
For app to check which band of spectrum you are connected to, please use Cellmapper app (from my signature).
If you wish to see different icon in there, you could flash Customized DE firmware which has "LTE" icon. But this has only cosmetic effect.
Instead of making a new thread, anyone knows if VoLTE works with the XZ Premium for T-Mobile?
Currently no. You need region or operator specific image Flashed (oem.sin) but there is none for XZ Premium.
But there is hope as there is t-mobile us specific modem configuration in all region images.. which will be loaded when you have correct oem image Flashed.
I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated from my p7p cellular connectivity, especially 3G.
It is almost nonexistent, I tried to flash multiple roms , factory images , different carriers , rooting , with no use.
I tried using network guru to force the modem to use wcdma , with no luck .. I spotted my phone using wcdma UMTS couple of times , so there is no defect in the modem .
I'm always unreachable unless I forced it to use GSM .
Any idea how to resolve it , or workaround it ?
Can I erase modemst1 /2 and check ,or it is risky ?
Please I need help
Are you in the USA? Because 3G is either phased out or will be very soon for most networks.
I have to ask "why" are you trying to use 3G? The phone is capable of 5G and in the event that 5G is spotty you can turn 5G off and use 4G/LTE exclusively which will allow you to make calls and have data access at the same time. 3G is nearly obsolete. YMMV

I know, but here in Jordan ,3g still active for calls , volte is only provided by one carrier. And naturally, you won't be able to call using only lte coz by default, when you make a call , the phone switches from lte to 3g, and when 3g is unavailable it switches to GSM . And it's going to take long time to switch between those bands. I'm mostly unreachable by this process
So by default it's NR/LTE/ wcdma / GSM ..

Meanwhile here people have no idea what volte is and carriers dont enable it by default, i have to call them to enable it for me every time i switch a phone. 3G is still the most used network for calls there, even though 4G has even better and more stable coverage. I live in the european union.
I am only familiar with 3G with Verizon in the United States with the US version of the p7p with Verizon modem. The bands associated with 3G Verizon work well when you are outside of major cities and go more rural. But, max speeds of CDMA with Verizon bands are sub optimal at 1mbps. The call quality is great though as the old Verizon commercials "can you hear me now" reflect.
