Error code -501 every attempt to install - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After I rooted my device (tripped KNOX btw) I downloaded the standard root apps and ended up messing with some setting that I didn't fully comprehend (I know, I'm dumb). I then tried to download an app from the Google Play Store and error code -501 popped up and interrupted the installation. I tried again a dozen or more times and it continued. I cleared all the cache from every google app that was installed, removed my google account, looked through all my files and downloads and found nothing suspicious, factory reset through settings, and finally hard reset through recovery-mode while clearing the cache partatin (spck) and wiping all stored data, and thus rebooted and still no answer. Please someone help!

Backup whatever you want to save from your storage, internal and external to pc for safekeeping and flash the stock TAR with Odin to return to true stock.
If you are currently on a firmware NEWER than OA6, you will be unable to flash a stock tar that is OA6 or older so it might be best to find the exact matching firmware build you're currently running.

unable to login to google account help!!

ok i have a viewsonic G-tablet rooted and has a custom rom. yesterday i decided to play with the other roms to see what i like best. at this point everything was working fine (market, gmail, etc). i reset the tablet to get to recovery and backup my rom. this is were everything goes wrong, recovery wass gone just gone. i tried reinstalling and still got nothing, found out the bootloader somehow got erased (but yet would still boot android, dont know how the [email protected] that works) so i boot up my linux machine and load on Vzflash and restored it to stock tnt, rerooted and installed VEGAn. i went to the accounts and sync settings to add my google account and after putting in my info it hangs for 3 minutes then says that i do not have a reliable data connection (but i do i was just using the browser and rom manager) i tried resetting the gapps, reinstall them, reflash the rom, wipe system data, wipe cache, wipe delvik, (iv done so much wiping the store is out of paper lol). i have also tried logging in with just the youtube app and while it did when i tried to use market i got the same error from when i tried to log in with the sync menu. i have also tried logging in the initial setup screen with no luck. i have been searching the internet for 2 days and have tried everything. WTF DO I DO!?!?!?!
did my device get banned from google or something. i have never done anything illegal with my android devices and all ways pay for my apps. i only root so i can get access to my cpu and with the gtab to get to the market.
this happened to me before with my G1 and fixed itself in a day but htis seems different.
i also edited my google account from my computer to allow multiple sign-ins.
i aslo F reset my phone to see if its just google or my account and it signed in just fine the first time.
has anyone else experienced this? BTW im in rochester ny

Sorry for posting about it but like I said I have been searching for 2 days, mostly on xda with no luck or even an answer like in the first link. If that fixes it ill take down the thread.

thank you the first link worked right away
I can log into my google account, but the only device associated with the account is my droid. How do I add my Gtab to the account as well?
For example if I want to download the Tegra 2 app from the Nvidia website, you log in with google accounts. Then it asks which device I want to download it to. Right now it only shows my droid as an option.

Device is no longer compatible on play store all of a sudden?

So I did a factory reset and I setup the Note 10.1 again. But when i go to the google play store and try to install certain apps (which before were completely fine) it lists it as being incompatible ? I even flashed over a multi dpi play store (although i never even messed with the dpi value) and although it give me the option to install now, its states error 942?
I have tried doing a factory reset, hard rest, master reset etc and even flashed the firmware via odin but i keep getting either an error or incompatible...
anyone know how to deal with this? Im just wanting to get my device back to its complete original state
Multiple XDA posts on this subject .
Google have tightened up the rules .

[Resolved] Google Device manager and apps from web no longer work.

I have a rooted galaxy s3 on straight talk pre paid. Wanted to try slim kat so I flashed it with cwmt. Delvik, fact reset , cache and /system. Didn't like the random reboots so flashed back to stock backup. When I install something from google play it won't download to phone. From within phone it works. Device manager can't locate device. Tried cleaning data on play store app. Play services looks like it's stuck in app manager, and can't delete data. Any suggestions?
Update: Factory reset through Samsung's stock OS resolved issue. Device actually booted into CWM which scared me. Then it rebooted and started updating apps. I maintained root.

How to delete downloaded update file?

I have my updates set to manual, but I accidentally clicked on the setting and it downloaded the update. didn't install, but every time I wake the phone and unlock the screen, it takes me to the stupid update to install. it's annoying and I don't want to update in case they find an exploit and root and this update may not enable me to get it in the future.
nobody??
I have the same issue, I'm looking into this problem now.
FYI: Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7
nothing you can do about it, i tried clearing cache, full factory reset, wipe data, wiped sd card. Basically anything you could wipe I did, and after signing into my freshly wiped phone it alerted me that my downloaded update was ready to install...
pretty sure you need root access to get to the updates download directory

There must be something we can do. Can't believe I have to spend the rest of this phone's life with those pop ups and notifications !!

All you need to do is clear the cache in recovery, once you boot back up it will say the update is ready to install, click install and it will fail because you deleted it clearing the cache
Done
I have blocked 'software update' processes by firewall. I can make installation fail. The notification icon goes for a while then re-appears, with pop-up, probably when I switch WiFi network or to 4G.
It Worked!
The solution above by *Detection* worked on my Galaxy s6. I had read similar solutions before but was frustrated that the notification remained. What all the other solutions were missing was the part about clicking install to see the installation fail and the blasted notification go away. Woohoo! Many thanks to *Detection* for the complete solution.

Super virus please help (odin)

I am stumped! Long story short i have a customers device( i work as an AUTH DEALER for MetroPCS) that had a nasty popup device. One of those imfamous FBI virus asking for money. Completely locked the device. Anyway the customer didnt know gmail and PW so he couldnt master reset. ( i know now he could). I decided to flash the STOCK ROM obtained through Samsung firmware website. I flashed via ODIN. It was a success, no failing at all. The device booted as new phone, apps got optimized and all. BUT the FBI virus was still on the device popping up locking you out, forcing you to remove battery. THIS IS AFTER flashing stock OS directly from the samsung website. So i then decide to master reset thinking the stock ROM would allow me to setup as normal. NOPE. After reset its still requiring the GMAIL and PW to setup the device. I dont understand because the OEM rom was flashed successfully. Yet the FRP lock is still enabled and the device locked out. How do i flash this rom so that it becomes STOCK with no FRP lock??? ANY tips welcome as ive posted in other forums and got no response....:silly::silly::silly:
You should try master reset (wipe partition and wipe cache), then flash a stock ROM via Odin. (Nevermind, I didn't fully read the part you already did that) But to me, this is just another proof that even flashing full ROM via Odin doesn't delete/replace everything. I couldn't get it solved too.

i actually resolved this issue. and yes flashing via ODIN doesnt reset it to default. I used sidesync, got a settings apk, used sidesync to force the device to open samsung apps(like the play store) i then got a file manager and added the apk to the phone storage via a computer.(this was all done while on the google login screen) i then opened the filemanager , installed the settings apk, it took me to phone settings(without having to get past the initial sign in screen) i then did a master reset via phone menu and BOOM, device is stock. Never will i put this much effort into a 50 dollar device again haha but thanks for the response
