Charging problem - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I have my OnePlus One running one of the latest CM nightly build (20150827), and a few days ago I realised that there was a problem when I charge my phone. It seems to work well (the led puts red, the battery circle icon starts spining) but it's not charging at all. In fact when I left it alone for some hours, it has less battery than when I plugged it.
Today I reached 0% and when I plugged it the battery circle shows the lightning but it blinks between all red and all grey very fast, like if a was pluggin and unplugging it very fast. After several minutes it doesn't overtake 0%. If I disconnect it, it powers off inmediatly.
While I was writing this it suddenly got to 30%
I have tried several sources (official charger, Xiaomi power bank) and different usb cables. I've also experienced this with other nightly from a month ago (I flashed the newer to see if that works to solve it) and the problem only shows sometimes. Thank you for reading!

Sounds like a faulty usb port on the phone to me. If you're able to charge it at all you should try flashing the stock images to go back to stock, but only do this if you're able to get it to charge above 30% because of the phone powers off during the process it could brick the device.

I was just wishing it not to be a hardware problem... But if stock CM doesn't work I guess I'm opening a ticket. Let's see what happens

[Q] Charging oddities while phone is off

Hi,
Last year my girlfriend allowed me to root her Sensation to try out different ROMs and all went well. A few months ago however, she started to have problems while charging her phone.
If she plugs it in while the phone is closed, the orange LED flashes on/off at around a 2 second interval, instead of holding it's colour. Furthermore, it never changes to green to indicate that the charge is complete. When the phone is in this state, she can't turn her phone on either - she has to unplug it in order to turn it on. If the phone is already on, and she plugs it in, everything behaves normally.
Either than that, the battery seems to hold the charge normally and the rest of the phone still works very well.
I've tried searching for similar problems but haven't landed on anything similar or which may be helpful. It's really got me stumped to what could be the cause, and more importantly, how to fix it!
Would someone have any ideas?
Thanks!
Does the phone behaves in same manner if it's fully charge n switched off when plugged to the charger.does the orange led fluctuate.
The orange led fluctuate whn the voltage of charger is less and it takes times to charge try switching the charger means if you use wall charger then charge through pc and vice versa
Hit thanks button if you find me helpfully

We tried switching from wall plug to USB on the laptop and it does the same thing. However, we noticed that if the battery isn't completely drained, the led doesn't flash - it charges normally.
Would there be a way around this?
I'd pick on the odds that the LED light hardware controller is slightly faulty, but if its really like you said its nothing to worry about, right?

Hi,
greetings
this used to happen with me when i was on stock rom.
the problem is when the battery is completely drained it needs lots of voltage to get charge
for this problem i took my cell to htc service center and they replaced the adapter and the problem was solved
i think you must buy a new adapter or say a new charger i thing that must solve your problem of led and your phone will get charge as normal even with the battery completely drained OR i think we get wall chargers you can look at the picture in which we have to place the battery and the battery gets charged you justt have to put the battery.. this charger is locally available in indian market for 80 to 100 rs.. you can search on net for the charger this is really a good thing and is a universal charger chagers each and every battery here in india we call it as khekda (marathi word for carb ) charger
let me know if it does solve your battery

[Q] Tablet doesn't charge, dock does - what to replace?

I've been enjoying my TF300 since the month it was released, but in the past few months the battery stats have become less and less accurate. I was watching YouTube videos on it while it was docked and charging yesterday when it suddenly died, and I haven't been able to get it to boot since. Sometimes it will start to boot, but die half way through the boot animation, which implies that the battery isn't charging.
When I plug the charger directly into the tablet, it flashes orange twice and then does nothing. When I plug the charger into the dock, that shows green - so I assume the dock is fully charged. When I plug the tablet into the dock, it flashes red twice again.
The logical assumption from this is that my TF300 has stopped accepting or holding a charge. My question is, which part do you think I should try and replace first? I understand that the dock connector has separate pins for 5V and 15V charging, so maybe that's been bent or broken somehow...or the battery itself could be worn out...or the motherboard could have developed a fault. Has anyone had a similar experience to this? I don't want to buy a new tablet as there is absolutely nothing wrong with my beloved Transformer other than this!
I'm going to leave it plugged directly into a standard PC USB port for several hours tomorrow while i'm at work, to see if it will trickle charge that way. That would imply the charger is at fault, despite the green light from the dock when it's plugged in.
sort of same here
My thoughts are that the one battery is no longer seen by the tablet and the other is getting too much of a workout as a result.
We have possibly just lasted beyond it's expected lifetime - which is kind of dissappointing. I don't understand exactly, but we might troubleshoot this still. What rom or Firmware are you using? I am on straight CM11 with no other modifications. I am using the tablet docked al th time and th rom "sees" the two batteries but dies at about 50% of the one without touching the other. I'm pretty sure that it really only is using the dock battery and never seems to go to the tablet battery anymore. Wish I could fix it - will try to use it without the dock and see what happens.
It was running KatKiss 5.0.0 - I kept reminding myself to go and download the latest update but never got around to it.
After leaving it plugged into a standard 800mA charger all night and all day, it booted for about 20 seconds and then died again before it reached the lockscreen. It seems that the battery is either charging unusably slowly or not at all. I may have to start hunting for a new convertible!

Well mine is working fine disconnected from the dock - so it sees the Tablet battery and uses it now; I will use it until it needs charging and then try again - by attaching the dock and charging etc. Will yours work if just plugged in? - like a laptop with an old battery, does it still work but you are tied now to the power supply / charging cable? I have installed the latest "homebrew" Omni now to just get a new start on things and will continue to just use up the battery and see what happens next. My preference is to have vanilla CM but it seems the tablet battery was invisible. I hope by re-setting things and having a new Rom in place will give me a clean slate.
Sadly no, it doesn't run even when permanently tethered to the power supply. I think the battery has to report a minimum state of charge before it's allowed to turn on, and that's where it's failing in my case.
Batteries are back
I wish that I could tell you how - but I can't - the batteries are back to full functionality. I will tell what I have done and this might possibly help. I installed Omnirom with Lollipop and it worked but was very slow. Then I installed CM 11 back (then CM 12, then CM 11 again all with the appropriate GApps & SuperSU etc.) and it seemed to put things back in order. I did also install a battery calibration app which just deleted a file tracking the battery(s). Some where in there the batteries starting working properly - this involved more than a few re-boots and re-installs (dirty and clean). In all this mess lies a possible solution or maybe it was when I slammed it shut in frustration - this could all be due to a loose wire/solder joint too. The battery is following the "normal" process now of first draining the tablet battery to ~ 80-90%, switching out to the dock battery, then switching back to the tablet when the dock is drained fully.
@kjwaugh
I can't recharge my battery and I have CM-11-20150112.
My little led never turn on orange light.
My question for you is: Does your led turn on when you plug in the USB cable ?
I'm afraid I have broken some analog circuit inside the tablet or, I hope, only the cable.
Please let me know.

LG G3 - Fried battery and/or charging port?

Let me lay down the story first:
It all started when I tried out multiROM for the LG G3. I was running cm12 perfectly fine, unlocked and everything. Amazing battery life. But MultiROM barely worked, even though I followed the instructions exactly, I had many errors trying to get anything to boot properly. I got help with it, but ended up getting rid of multirom via internal storage (where it was) and flashing a normal, non modified TWRP 2.8.4.0. This is where stuff starts getting weird.
After getting rid of multiROM and flashing cm12 again from backup, I noticed my phone wouldn't take a charge at all. It was booted up and running at about 30% battery. My PC wouldnt do anything when I plugged it into my computer, too. I thought it was just Cyan being weird, so I rebooted into twrp and tried plugging in. No buzz, still wouldn't take a charge. For some reason, turning the phone off and plugging in the charger while it was off actually turned it on. So the charging port has to be working, the phones just being weird... but then I decided to smell the charging port. Smells like pure burning electronics. I rebooted the phone with the cable plugged in, and it boots up and charges. This is odd, because i can no longer plug the cable in while the phone is on, i have to reboot it with the cable in now in order to get it to charge. I tried flashing back to stock ROM, and same exact issue happens. Not only that, but the battery no longer holds a charge for more than a day on one full charge. It lasts about 3-4 hours now.
Please, xdaers, help a brotha out. I'm really pissed about whatever the hell is happening to my G3. It still works fine, I just have to reboot it with the cable in in order to get it to charge at all and the battery life sucks on top of that.
Note: One time after all this happened, the phone died fully. Plugging the charger in, the battery logo was flashing on and off. I tried multiple cables and chargers with the same problem. I pulled out the battery with the cable still in, and the battery logo actually stayed on the screen and once I put the battery back in, it charged again. THIS IS MAJORLY CONFUSING and hard to explain so I will clarify my issue if you are confused with my post.
Also, the phone likes to get really hot and die fast by itself even without the charger plugged in now.
thanks guys

Good luck!
So you flashtooled back to stock? And still persists? If so you next option is to buy both a battery and a charging port and do some trouble shooting.

Don't know about the charging port, but as far as battery life I'm getting the same thing, except mine lasts about 2 hours, I've decided I'm selling the phone while its still worth a bit of money, probably getting a Note 2 or Xperia Z2, I've been very unhappy with this phone, also my battery cover is falling apart and cracking,

Well I've had none of your problems. Note 2 or z2 is a downgrade. Have fun with that... Sucks your experience hasn't been a good one. Cheers

I get 13+ hours with 4 to 5 hours screen on time and 1to 2 hours of talk time. So I don't think your battery issue is normal for this phone. You have either a defective battery or phone or an app that is misbehaving.
I'm having the exact same problem with LG G3.
Can only charge when rebooted. And even then the charge indicator does not show charging.
I have to go into setting->battery where it shows 'charging'
I have tried new battery and cleaning port.
Anyone figure this out...?
My battery drained very fast before too after backed up to stock, but after I upgraded to 5.0, my phone can lives up to next morning!

[Q]HTC One M8 Battery Not Communicating/Exclamation Point Icon

Hello Everyone,
So I am in a bit of a dilemma, I am fixing a screen on my HTC One M8, I thought I had the phone fixed and ready to go, everything worked perfectly except when I plugged in the phone to a charger on the screen the phone said charging however in the upper screen where the battery icon is there was an exclamation point over the battery logo. So I used the phone normally (again everything was perfect) until the phone naturally died. So I thought I would try again, I plugged it into a charger and the phone blinked on and showed the battery at 0%, the orange charging light came on, everything seemed normal. However about 5 seconds later the orange light started blinking and the 0% battery logo was replaced by a battery with an exclamation point over it. I took the phone apart again and made sure everything was connected properly. I am just wracking my brain because the battery was fine previously, and obviously the charging port was working (because the phone was turning on and recognizing that it had been connected to a charger) and the phone worked fine and discharged at a normal rate after fixing it. However I cannot get the battery to recognize that it is being connected to a power supply and charge up it seems. I just do not get it, any insight to this issue would be much appreciated! Thank you all!

Probably not what you want to hear but it probably needs opened back up. Sounds like part of the battery connection is loose or severed.

Hello, thanks for the reply. I actually have it apart now, and there is only one place where the battery connects to the phone, and since the battery was working (the phone was powered on) I assume it was connected properly however I do not know for sure. This is really annoying!
Same thing for me
I had my screen replaced by UbreakIfix and had a terrible experience, so bad that they refused to fix my phone when the screen broke again. I replaced my screen and the phone works and recognizes when the charger is plugged in but I have the same issues. Gray battery icon with exclamation and a flashing orange LED when plugged in. The charge has shown 27% and 33% but it won't charge. I tried wipe partition cache, factory reset, battery Calibration app, and the battery data wipe (holding power, volume up/down for 2 minutes) Whats left? I'm on a Verizon M8 running lollipop 5.0.1

Battery completely dead or other hardware issue? [semi-resolved]

Hi All, my wifes s6 (using xtrestolite rom) has stopped taking a charge. Im trying to figure out what the issue is. Unfortunately im travelling for the next month so have limited trouble shooting options.
Background
- wife has been complaining that her phone battery dies quickly. I kind of dimissed her assuming it was in her head. she said it loses 10percent in standby mode in 1hr roughly. Shes been complaining about this for a week.
- yesterday at the airport her battery was at 12% and when we plugged it in to charge it wouldnt take a charge. Bolt icon did not come up and still said "connect charger" on the screen. Normally when connected the red Led comes on, but now it doesnt.
-our normal chsrging method is using and aukey 3port charger as fast charging mode.
Troubleshooting/diagnosis
- i have an s6 as well so i tested all the cables and chargers on my phone and it works. We even had the official samsung charger and cable but same issue.
- after the phone was completely dead, if you plug in the charging cable the charging bolt icon comes on for a few sec, the top left says "kernel is on seandroid enforcing" for a sec and then everything goes blank. Red charging led doesnt come on. So it seems like it detects the cable but wont charge enough to boot up.
- i was able to boot into twrp recovery but where its supposed to have a battery level its completely blank. Originally i was able to do this without any canles but then it wouldnt. My guess is that i orginally had a bit of juice and then it was completely dead.
-after leaving it plugged in for a sec, im able to turn it on where it boots and i can see it says 0% battery. It stays on for 5sec before turning off itself.
- i also tried plugging it into laptop, but laptop does not detect it. The phone does detect the power though and does the same as above but this time bolt charging icon stayes on for 1-2min before going off and seeing the "kernel is on seandroid icon". Once the seanadroid goes away nothing seems to happen. After doing this i was able to turn it on and it showed 1%. I thought this was promising but after trying this a few times ive never been able to get to 1percent again.
- with the brief charge thst i guess its getting, i was able to go i to twrp recovery and do a factory reset. This was with cable plugged in the whole time. Without cable in i dont think it would complete the action.
That about summarizes whats happened.
Ive concluded the following:
- charger and cables are ok and not the issue
- it is not the charging port since the phone does seem to be getting some juice bacause charging icon comes on for 2sec whenever cable is plugged in.
- its not a software/app issue since it wont charge even in recovery mode. Also factory reset was done and no luck.
My best guess is that the battery can only hold a 0-1% charge which is enough to register it being plugged in but not enough to do anything else. But if everything else is ok shouldnt it work when if the cable is just left in. This makes me think theres something else going on.
Any suggestions or theories would be much appreciated trying to decide if i should pay to get battery replaced.
Sorry for the long post. Figured it is best to give all info.
Thanks in advance!
Update June 3:
Hey everyone, just a correction on the above. It looks like it is able to charge in recovery (slowly). I realized that although there is no battery level during recovery, no charging led, and not booting up after being charged for a bit, maybe its just going slowly.
So i went into recovery and left it overnight on the non-fast charging and woke up after 8hrs and it was at 78percent!!!
Im not sure why it didnt go to 100% in 8hrs.
The phone still doesnt charge regularly when plugged in, so still need to fix that.
Do you guys think its a rom issue (only factory reset done before) ? I will see if i can get a rom for flashing.
Update 2:
Reflashed xtrestolite rom but still no luck. It wont charge.
Seems like a dead battery.

Bump.
Went to the phone store and they said its probably not the battery but the ic chip for charging? This will cost 150, but doesnt include the screen if they break it...
Does this make sense since i can charge in recovery.
Thanks. Any direction or input is much appreciated.
Go on the local store and change your battery (if isn't in warranty)
Hi all, just wanted to update the post that the issue is semi-fixed.
I brought it into a repair shop who offered to diagnose the problem for free before paying to replace the battery.
He told me there was nothing wrong with it and not sure what my issue was. Plugs in the charger and lo and behold it was charging. He said he didnt do anytning to it except blow some compressed air on the port.
Im guessing the comporessed air cleaned out a short? So now it charges properly.
The issue remaining is that the pc doesnt detect the phone. It shows as charging on the phone but no conmection. Tried to install the latest samung driver (1.5.4xxx?) but no luck. On occation sometimes it says "usb port has malfunctioned" but other times nothing.
My s6 does actually connect, so definitely my wife's s6 itself and not comp. Im tempted to buy some comlressed air and give it ankther blow, but dont want to risk messing it up again. im pretty happy that it at least charges up.
Hope this helps others that might have similar issue.
