I suggest you to first flash CMOS12.1 recovery.img and then flash the desired version of TWRP

I've done the same thing. It flashed the stock recovery cos12.1 and still won't flash a downgraded twrp recovery. Do I need to flash cos11 recovery?(when I got the phone I just installed twrp and flashed rom)

Are you flashing via bootloader? Or are you flashing it in twrp?
Download philz
Plug phone into computer
Boot to bootloader
Flash recovery
Reboot phone
Boot to recovery
Should be on philz now

Flashing via fastboot and Phone just reboots back to home screen

My nexus was bootloader unlocked and rooted while on 4.4.2.
I OTA updated to 4.4.3 and lost my root.
Is there a way to re-root the phone without losing all my data or having to wipe?
Thanks in advance for the info.
Yes, flash a custom recovery or just boot into it and flash the supersu.zip.

Yeah Philz for life! lol.
Well it seems like for some reason it reverted back to stock android recovery.
Could I still flash a custom recovery and go from there?

The reason is the OTA contained a recovery. You have to flash a recovery as already mentioned earlier in the thread

So Just received my 2.2 Update, and was going to install it when I remembered, "Wait! I am rooted!"
My question is can I update too 2.2 and not have anything "bad" happen.(Root Lost, System Boot Loop, etc)
I am running Stock Update 2.1 with Root.
EDIT: I have CWM set as my recovery.
Another user did it in general forum and it doesnt flash because of mismatch
Just like the last Lollipop update, if you're rooted, you'll need to return to stock.
Otherwise, wait until the full rom .zip is available and then download it and flash it in your custom recovery followed by re-flashing the latest SuperSU .zip.

Im on Philz
Can I flash recovery image via "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", then reboot the tablet, install the OTA and then with Flashify flash Philz again?
EDIT: I just re-read what I posted. Can I use flashify to flash stock recovery, updating with OTA and then reflash Philz?

The "full" 2.2 OTAs are available everywhere on xda right now...Just flash the appropriate one, reflash recovery (if you have to) and then reflash supersu.

I already updated hahaha, I didnt remember this post. Thanks anyway!!
So I had my phone rooted, with TWRP recovery, and today I've received a notification for 5.1 update, and when I pressed Install and reboot, it rebooted directly into TWRP, so I can't update it (or didn't find a way). Is there any way to update it now without wiping data?
There's a whole thread on the ota process in the general forum. You should read it. The ota will not work with a custom recovery. You need the stock recovery which you can install using fastboot. There are other requirements too. You have to be 100% stock system, kernel and recovery.

Just flash the ota zip via twrp you will loose all root and your system modifiactions which are reversible!

Hey guys. I just want to know if anyone can confirm that the roms and recoveries for the first Nvidia Shield Tablet can work on the NEW Nvidia Shield Tablet? I heard the two tablets are basically the same except for the built in stylus so I'm hoping that the roms work for the NEW one...
Thx Guys
I'm not sure about the ROMs, but the official twrp works flawlessly. I couldn't actually get it to flash via fastboot but I did get it to boot into it via fastboot, then did a backup, then flashed root. After flashing root I downloaded flashfire by chainfire and used that to flash the twrp recovery. Hope this helps.

Edit: the kx 060 kernel also works for the new one.

Thanks for the helpful info! I hope this helps others as well. I will try a custom rom on it when I pick it up. Good thing you told me that I can't flash twrp via fastboot... (would've gave me a headache at first ) No problem though I'll just have to boot it via fastboot, make a backup just in case, flash supersu, and then flash the twrp recovery onto the shield with a third party app like flashfire.
Thanks again

Could you maybe try to do a full backup using flashfire? I used twrp and later realized it doesn't backup the recovery or the kernel so even if I need to I can't return to full stock. Flashfire is still in beta but there is a thread here to sign up. It's the replacement to flashify if I remember right.

No errors, I just couldn't get it to stick. Every time I tried to flash recovery and then boot into it I would just get the original Android on its back.

No. I didn't know I needed to boot into bootloader first. This was my first time using fastboot.

I've been sitting on 5.1.7 rooted with TWRP for awhile. Got the OTA to 5.1.8 and accidentally clicked install. Will I just have to reinstall magisk when it's done?

Is it also possible to flash the rom.
After that magisk and then twrp.zip?

You can download the full ROM, flash it in TWRP, flash TWRP.zip, reboot recovery, flash magisk, reboot and done.
Last week I flashed the ota as full rom image via fastboot. Then booted and everyting was ok. But then, rebooted into recovery and it just wiped everything without any option. So, my guess is to flash ota via fastboot, fladh twrp via fastboot, reboot to twrp and then install magisk ?
P.s. after update to 5.1.8, does your rear camera portrait mode is working ? My not.

You probably ran the fasboot command with wipe option included.
Ok, what is the correct command to run via fastboot ?
