Removing Wi-fi Notifications On Rooted Lollipop - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Removing Wi-fi notifications on Lollipop (I have root)
Hi folks, I'm new here although I've benefited a lot from the information I've read. I have an s-off'ed, rooted m8.
Specifically, I couldn't find any information about how to remove the Verizon Wifi notification on Lollipop, even with root access. There is a thread from a couple years ago (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1761900), but it doesn't seem to apply to Lollipop -- the database entry isn't there. I've been looking in the databases on my phone using SQLite Editor, but I can't seem to find a relevant entry.
I know I could install a custom ROM to get rid of the notifications, but I've used things like Cyanogen and Viper in the past, and they are too buggy. I prefer the stock ROM (5.0.1). Similarly, I know I could install Xposed, but I don't want to do that unless as a last resort, since the Lollipop version is still in alpha.
So, my question is, where is the database entry for disabling the Verizon Wifi notifications on Lollipop? Has anyone found it? Or is it not in the database at all?
Many thanks!

Few Questions...Plz Help

Hi I'm new here and have a few questions. I downloaded some apps off the web but when they are updated I cannot update them using the market. Is there any way for me to update them or add them to the "My Downloads" list in the market? If I root my phone, but do not install a custom rom will I still get ota updates, be able to install market apps, and so on?
Details:
Phone: Nexus One (T-Mobile Version)
Android Version: 2.2 FroYo FRF50 (love it)
If you guys need baseband and kernel information let me know. Also, what it different in stock froyo vs cyanmod vs any other rom? Sorry if this is in the wrong place to post this and the length.
Hi there, as of right now all that I can point you towards for you apps would be an app called apktor that can be found in the market the rest you will have to figure out on your own. Or you could also just redownload these apps through the market...
From what I have read besically when you root your phone you give up any chance to be able to OTA update. BTW I have a Telus Milestone so I am not sure about the phone you have because it might be different but I think it would be a global rule of Rooting= No OTA... Although while being rooted you can install apps from the market.
About the custom roms you will have to do some reading untill the Milestone's boot gets cracked I won't have a chance to play around with any roms, I guess best advice would be read read read and read some more. And after you have done all that reading, choose a couple of roms that interest you try each one for atleast a day and find the one that you like. If there was a best rom, there wouldn't be such a wide variety of them...

Nope, even if your phone has root you can still update apps via the market. I know because I updated my apps via this way. 2 Rules apply though.
1) The apps that you downloaded off the web are freeware and are also on the market.
2) The apps that you downloaded off the web AREN'T warez. (I'd suspect that's what you're trying to do, but do correct me if i'm wrong)
It is highly unlikely that in following these 2 simple rules you still can't update via market.

Exchange active sync testing and rooting

Looked through the rooting guide and I have a question revolving around some testing I need to do. Please bear with me and I appreciate any assitance or advice.
Here is the issue:
When running both the Incredible and the Evo, Exchange 2007 will sync natively when encryption of the device is required. On other 2.1 devices, such as the Moto Droid, and the virtual devices, native sync will fail as it can't support encryption requirement. This is the same with 2.2 virtual devices.
Since the Evo or Incredilbe sync via ActiveSync and don't toss an error, I need to know if the mail database is actually being encrypted. I know that Android does not support full device encryption like the iphone or winmo devices.
I currenlty have a Sprint Evo for testing this. I want to keep the OS as close as stock as possible, so I can see what will happen with our users that purchase these.
1. If I root only, will I still have basically the stock image running, or does it load a custom ROM?
2. If it is replaced, can I put the stock ROM on the phone while still retaining root access.
3. I'll look around with a file explorer, but does anyone know offhand where the mail database are kept. This is the key as I need to know if this database is encrypted.
If anyone has other advice for me, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance.

You can root without a custom ROM.
EVO does support EAS policies.
I am not able to answer #3 at this time, I am sure I will find out while exploring the EAS components.

After following almost all rooting methods you should have a stock rooted ROM. After rooting you can flash a new stock rooted ROM anytime you want, the links are in the wiki that is stickied on the Android Dev thread. Also there is more info in the guide in my sig.
As far as encryption of mail files goes I have no idea, but would be interested to know this... Let us know if you find anything in your testing.
The phone I got for test had the OTA updates applied. Looks like no root for me now.
As soon as I find out anything, I'll post it around.

Unfortunately for anyone that applied the OTAs before rooting, they now have to wait for the un-fix. There is a thread devoted to this in android dev. I don't have a link cause I'm on my phone ATM, but it should be on page 1.

[Q] Android - Custom "Market" app vs Unknown Sources DISABLED

Hi All!
Let's say I would like ( or rather I'm forced to ) build a customized Android ROM. Among all related things that are well described there is a one "black hole" to me..
I need to replace Android Market with a custom market application and block unknown sources setting ( to always disabled ). Root access must also be disabled.
For me it seems that not having root access along with Unknown Sources disabled excludes writing a custom market application, because as far as i know custom market app will need to invoke Package Installer.
Did anyone came across such problem ?
For now i only need to estimate the complexity of this task so i would appreciate ANY clues on this one..
regards
Also interested in the solution, have a similar problem.
First, you should leave Unknown sources always on enabled. If you're worried that you might suck in a malware app, install an antivirus.
Second, I installed several custom ROMs so far, and the only problem I noticed with market is that it does not show the phone model (GT-i5800) anymore, but just "phone". Other than that, apps install fine, payed apps can be purchased and this is the stock Vending.apk, not modded.
Third, don't even consider not rooting your phone if you make a custom ROM (even this sentence is a contradicition...), coz if you don't have root, you can't dump the factoryfs.rfs, making it impossible to create a Custom ROM in layman's terms...

[Q&A] CyanogenMod 12.0 for Photon Q

Q&A for CyanogenMod 12.0 for Photon Q
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for CyanogenMod 12.0 for Photon Q. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
So far so good for CM12, everything runs really smooth. Only issues are the default text app send button is grayed out and won't let you send but using Google messenger app it works fine. Is there any reason to why the send button wouldn't work?
LTE seems to work well but visually every now and then it seems to disconnect/reconnect but functions fine. And just a quick/dumb question which CDMA subscription should we use, RUIM/SIM or NV as I found info on RUIM/SIM but couldn't really find much on the definition of NV.
I really wanted to know that everybody has no problem at all in logging in Google+ with the latest version of its client.
I'm having trouble the most recent one that I can download from Play Store, : v5.1.0
I had to restore the backed up version of v5.0
I recently got the multimedia dock for this phone and I've noticed that some things don't work. None of the USB ports on the dock seem to interface with the OS, but any peripheral connected by a USB OTG cable (while not in the dock, of course) works just fine. Also, the device doesn't seem to detect that it is in a dock at all; I have it set to daydream when it's docked, but nothing happens.
Does anybody else have these issues? Is there a known or planned solution?
Thanks!
Hei just another quicky:
I had problems with twrp unable to mount /data on encrypted phone. I was never asked for passphrase also it did not detect data was formated as f2fs and assumed ext4.
After factory reset I reformated data and cache to f2fs again (as I think the performance gain is real) and cleanflashed latest cm12 nightly + gapps.
After setting up my phone it became slugish fast again, also battery did drain fast (also the phone did get real hot)
My circumvention so far is limiting Background processes to 2 within Dev options. Since then phone stays much cooler, everything works as expected normal cpu usage shows 2.5/3.2/3.5.
Before that phone was sometimes at 12/9/8 or so and thus bekame unresponsive/sluggish.
Does anyone know the standard count of background processes? Form Q?
Since i did not discover any strange behavior/lags since i switched to only 2 backgroundprocesses anyone knows what kind of usage could result in problems with lower backgroundprocesses?
Thanks in advance!
CM 12.0 nightlies I/O and issues
So I switched over to CM12 because of the ability to switch the filesystems to f2fs. And so far I have seen a pretty decent improvement in the response, speed, and general performance with CM12.
A few issues have come up though:
CM nightly 03232015
-the cLock widget just randomly stopped functioning. Worked for a day or two, then stopped working. I wasn't able to set the alarm and clicking on the time on the home screen does nothing. Disabled cLock and am using the default Deskclock instead (I need to be able to set alarms).
-the messaging app was not working correctly... I was able to receive texts but the send button was greyed out and would not let me click on it. This is both over Wi-Fi and 3G and 4G LTE. Had to revert to 8sms that I was using on CM10...
-the themes are applied inconsistently... not all apps or system dialogs are themed when I use ThemeDIY to create/apply my own theme.
-equalizer doesn't seem to make a big difference...
-doesn't seem to remember wifi logins... keep getting the "sign in to wireless network" notification (I've already signed in)... the sign in page does not open in Chrome, but rather a separate browser or system page that won't offer to save my password (though it does autofill the username)...
-weird issues using adb... even though I've authorized the computer, and have root access on the phone and am running adb root, it won't let me write to certain parts of the file system (I couldn't adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip error was "read-only filesystem")
I know it's a nightly, just wanted to see if anyone else has these same issues and to make sure the developers are seeing this. For the record, I did a wipe and format (since I was going to change the file system,) and this is a clean install of both TWRP and CM12.
Thanks!

I didn't know what to use either so I left it on NV. Haven't noticed a difference in signal or call quality or anything. I am guessing since we're on Sprint and there is no SIM card that RUIM/SIM won't work?
Im am currently running on NV too, but with german sim.
To the other problems you have, I don"t have those. Sms works. CLock works, alarms work... I am running without any themes just switched the stock trebuchet launcher to apex. I am also on f2fs.
I also would like to know the difference between NV and RUI/SIM, and which one should be preffered with simcard mod.

I can't speak to the RUI/SIM issue but I don't know how to switch themes off. As far as my SMS and cLocks idk it is possible that I disabled the wrong app I don't like to run more then the bare minimum. As for the theme I ended up downloading a dark theme from the app store which is wonderful looking!! It is called Nicholas' Dark Material. In case you're looking for dark like me.
Do you have issues with the gallery or camera? I think I saw somewhere on the xt897 forum a link to motorola's camera and gallery apps... are you able to change the save location for pictures or no?
I also had an issue where the navigation bar does not render right when I watch full screen video in landscape mode. May have to do with me forcing GPU render under developer options. I'd take it off but I can't remember how I got there lol

I cannot set the custom color for notifications in CM12... but there is a post that says the colors were retained on an upgrade from CM11. Well I wiped and did a clean install rather than an upgrade so is there an .xml file or a settings I can edit? I'm comfortable with file manager and editor and adb and shell...
CM 12 update
I have a simple question so if I am not asking it in the right place, I apologize.
If I do one of the CM12 updates (the nightlies) through the Update in the Settings Menu on my phone, does it wipe the phone? Or does it only update relevant system files and keep my apps and data??

If you only apply the update, it will not wipe the device. You would have to wipe it manually in recovery. It will apply a so-called "dirty flash" as you are not wiping any partitions.
CM12-->CM12, should be fine. Of course before you report any issues try a clean flash (or if it's a single app FC'ing, try clearing data on that single app).
I'm having tons of trouble using this with Sprint.
When I lock it to CDMA and/or EVDO mode, Logcat shows that it's trying to connect using a C Spire APN. If I lock it in LTE-only mode and select Sprint APN, it gets a good data connection. The APN menu is foolishly disabled for CDMA/EVDO so I cannot correct the issue. Why is it trying C Spire? How can I fix 3g and MMS settings to work?
CM11 worked great in all conditions, and MMS worked out of the box.
I'm trying to flash CM12 on a FreedomPop device and I'm getting the message "This package is for device: xt987,asanti_c; this device is asanti". I was able to flash CM11 from the nightlies page but no luck with CM12 nightlies nor with the CM12.1 that was posted here on XDA.
Any help to flash CM12 on this device? :good:

In the short term you can change the meta-inf file in the update.zip and change the assert line to allow asanti.
In the future, the CM maintainer probably needs to update the source to allow your device... odd that it worked in CM11 but not 12 tho.
Are you going from CM11 to CM12? Even if you clean flashed.

Thanks for the tip!
First I tried to flash CM12 directly but got the error. Then decided to try with CM11 and it worked so I hoped it would work to update to CM12 but got the same error again.
Just to double check I'm not doing it wrong, this is what I tried to flash:
CM12 (Failed): http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/107228/cm-12-20150417-NIGHTLY-xt897.zip
CM11 (Success): http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/100850/cm-11-20150216-NIGHTLY-moto_msm8960_jbbl.zip
What I understood by reading around is that for CM12 I should use the xt897 file even though it's differently named than the CM11 one (moto_msm_8960_jbbl).
Can you please confirm that I'm using the correct CM12 one?
Thanks

Yes, that's the correct one.
The CM maintainer clearly states the reasoning in the CM12 thread:

Please note:
In CM12, the Motorola 2012 msm8960 device line has been de-unified again, so moto_msm8960/moto_msm8960_jbbl builds are dead from now on.

Adjusting the meta-inf to check for "asanti" instead of "asanti_c" worked perfectly. Thanks for your help!
Now I have to find out why after I flash gapps I start to get multiple crashes related to Google Services and Google Apps.
Edit: Well, just in case someone face the same problem in the future. I updated to the latest TWRP recovery directly from their webpage (initially I used Rashr app) and that solved all my problems, including the initial error when flashing CM12 nightly.

[debloat-ROM] Back Bacon UI one ui for Canada, eh? SM-A530W October Release

October release is available with or without root
Made a few changes as far as adding in some apk's to hopefully make it stable for everyone.
Besides that, the usual with normal default font BUT lots more choices in the font section.
Enjoy!
*if anyone has solid reasons to remove any apk files i've put back please let me know as some I should not have been removing and others... not so sure
I will no longer be able to provide new copies of this after the October security patch. I no longer own an A8 2018 and without a device to test the work, I do not feel it is appropriate to continue the project. I'd like to thank everyone that participated and I hope you enjoyed using it! If anything changes in the future that will allow me to provide the latest edited firmware, I will definitely be providing it here for you. I am using an S7 now so if you own one and like this work, there shall be downloads available there similar to this one. (Already testing).
Anyone that would like to continue on their own or have access to files used in making it I will try to include as much as possible from the link provided below by the end of October. There is currently a slightly outdated set of files and instructions (from June I believe) on how I made it already available.
Thanks Again!
Oct Security patch zip ready for download
Available with or without root AND with or without exo font - also an attempt to allow printing feature version. "Attempt" meaning I've placed a set of apk files into a separate and clearly labelled zip on the main download page that may allow proper use of the feature which has not been validated as operational by me or any other user. The "print fix" zip is rooted with exo font
This was made ONLY for the SM-A530W! Please do not use if not W (Canadian) variant. Check your phone info before attempting to flash

I followed your instructions. I was already updated to pie previous to flashing your rom. I am not able to get root. Any ideas why. I also have the Canadian version. Good job on the Rom, I like it. I wish I could get root.
Ok. I can't really suggest anything other than the obvious.
But you've let it boot once before trying, and are adding the apk as well after flashing magisk in twrp?
Hard to figure that one out. If you're using Magisk, i am assuming.

I know exactly what you mean. I do it all the time.
Nice you got it going. It's pretty lame if you don't root this. I just cut it up and added a couple things and they can be taken out, except radio and the recorder.
Curious if i got it right. If you're on anything other than VMC, is call recording and other micro features working? All the cscfeature xml files are decrypted so you can see what was done.
Everything seems to be working. I appreciate the work, Canadians are usually the last to get Roms. Most are made for the sm-a530f model. I was using the wrong method. One post said about waiting 166 hrs to reboot your phone after zipping RMM_State Bypass etc. etc.. Your way is simple. Once I get a chance I wlll have a look at what you have done, I work long hours. And as you said, what is the point if you cant root. Thanks again.

It is 168 hours no reboots and rmm did work that rmm was for Oreo.
I think his would be fine but no guarantees.
Custom kernel 2.0 flash twice.
Light rom works without issue make sure you flash magisk.

Yeah bud. If you unzip the attached file, you can place it in /system/priv-app/ and make sure the permissions are set correctly for the folder and apk. Compare with other apps in the directoty and make it the same.
Then get the activity launcher app from the play store. Use that to make a link for it.

okay thanks for that. It is probably from my csc edits. I can adjust for freedom and hope it makes a difference.
Anything else to mention about it? What you did before flashing, are you using latest twrp, root or non root.... anything at all
no-verity... favourite snack... p.i.n. number(s)... oops sorry not the last two. My mistake. TOO MUCH info. Disregard.
Do a search on xda for rooting your model for the correct version of twrp. U will need no verify no encript. I used the latest Magisk to root. Supersu did not work. I used twrp for the A8 plus and had problems. Get the right one. It's a great rom. https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....ery-twrp-3-2-2-0-galaxy-a8-2018-t3818201/amp/
I am looking at the csc for FMC and it appears i have doubled an entry. I need to go over all of them to see if i've done it elsewhere. I will have 2 updated ones hopefully late tonight. (Takes forever to upload).
Not sure if that is the cause but i will definitely adjust it.
Quick question in regards to your Rom. I been using it for a while now. Its the best one I can find, I did post a few times at the start. By any chance, did u get adoptable storage working? I know Samsung removed it in Pie. I tried root essentials but still no luck. Thus is not my first time rooting or installing roms. I started with the HTC 1. Lol. So far, u have the best rom for the A8 2018. Its nice and clean. Almost compares with lineage in my opinion. Thanks again. And by the way, I am Canadian.
Thanks
Hey i appreciate the gesture but even though i "made" this, i did it because of other people. SuperR is an invaluable tool. Then you got magisk, the twrp recovery and heck even give ol' Sammy some credit, haha. All i did was spend time learning everything from this site. I can't stress that enough. I still have not paid for superR and i am going to see how i can right after this.
ANYWAY!
Your question. I've never attempted it but i am very certain there's a magisk module that'll do it.
It involved formatting sd to ext 4 or 3. So i will get on it. Got a few 64 gig cards to spare. If you have a computer, grab the superR linux distro. I've run it on 32 bit machines. K... pay superr... adopt a card heheh.
I will look again in the magisk module section. And I give everybody right now credit for all their hard work and sharing it amongst all of us. Thank you. Thank you. I love modding my phones and I could not do it without everybody's help. All my PC's are 64bit.
Nice. If you need any help just ask. Just bought the kitchen.
I'll have something very soon. Mexico's pie has the classic csc folder of old. I think we should unify with some fiesta pie zip ui sorta thingy... um rom.
