Is the North American Note 5 all-bands universal LTE? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note5

I'm asking this because I'm thinking of the upcoming Moto X Pure which will support "all" North American LTE bands, making it a universal carrier phone. If I could buy any unlocked North American Note 5 and bring it to Verizon, that would get around the locked bootloader on the Verizon version of the device. Has anyone checked what LTE bands the NA N5 supports yet?

No they are not universal. Different carriers use different frequencies. Sounds like the Moto plans are being capable of all those frequencies.

I have an aunt who is visiting me in America for a month. She will be going back in few weeks and she is interested in purchasing a note 3 in America since it's cheaper. Question is.. is it possible to use US based phones work in korea? Which carrier Note 3 would work the best?

In theory, the phone should "work", as long as you can get it unlocked from the carrier. They should all have quad-band GSM, so you should be able to get data too. LTE is a different matter though. South Korea providers use bands 1, 3, 5, and 8. Both the AT&T and T-Mobile Note 3s support band 5, but that's the only one, and the Sprint and Verizon ones don't support any of those bands. SK Telecom and LG U+ use band 5, but SK Telecom also uses band 3 and LG U+ uses band 1, so your aunt might not get full LTE coverage if they use those other bands to fill gaps or something - but I really can't guess.

How much does a Note 3 cost in South Korea (USD equivalent)? Because you can get a "international" Note 3 32GB (N9005) from eBay or Amazon for $550-560. It supports LTE on bands 1, 3, 5, 8, and 20. So while she's in the US, she could pick up a pre-paid SIM from T-Mobile or AT&T (not Sprint or Verizon) or one of their MVNOs and use it in her new phone. She won't get LTE, but she will get 3G. If you're in a city, I'd recommend going with a T-Mobile MVNO (MetroPCS, for example), since they have a very strong 3G/HSPA+ network. But more importantly, it'll work on all the bands in South Korea, regardless of carrier.

Using a US Moto G (2015) in the UK

Can anyone help me figure out if the US Moto G (2015) will work on EE 4G in the UK?
It lists the following bands:
"LTE (2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17)"
EE in the UK supposedly uses bands 3 and 7.
Does this mean I'd have no problem using a new US Moto G in the UK on EE's 4G?
You'd probably be able to make phone calls and use HSPA+ just fine since the majority of the world uses the same GSM bands for those. As for LTE, you would get nothing since the USA model does not support band 3 or 7.

I don't understand. I'd be buying the US version of the phone, and Motorola says it supports band 7.
The question is whether band 7 support is sufficient for 4G on EE in the UK.

EE uses bands 7, 3 and 20, if you use a US version of the Moto G 2015 then you will only be able to connect to LTE in a band 7 area, band 7 is 2600MHz so will only be used in cities and towns as it has a very short range, most of EEs LTE network is band 3 (1800MHz) and then band 7 (800MHz) will be used in some cases (it penetrates buildings and has a much greater range) -bottom line is you won't get much LTE at all.
Also if you are considering buying a US version because with a straight conversion it looks cheap, remember you have to pay import duty and taxes once it gets here which will even out the price.
I was looking to buy a US version because my fiancee is living in England and will be coming to the US in about a year. So the conversion rate is better and she'll be able to use it here no problem once she arrives. Sounds like that might not work though.

You'd still get a 3G connection which would be fine for the year so that's still an option?

Verizon Model LTE Bands same as Unlocked Model?

Do you guys think the Verizon unit will have the same LTE bands as the Play Store model? I can get these st 2yr contract pricing on my Verizon business account and would like to use one on AT&T service, but need to be sure Band 12/17 is unlocked and ready for use.
The answer is yes, there are only different frequency bands for the intl and US versions. The US version, which Verizon is selling, supports all major carriers, according to Google.

My only concern is that the Verizon website does not list all US LTE bands such as Band 12 or Band 17. This was an issue with my Note 7 also. Band 12/17 were capable and supported by the hardware, but Verizon locked these from being used. It wasn't until I flashed AT&T Note 7 firmware onto my Verizon Note 7 unit that I was able to use those 2 LTE bands.

This is 100% wrong. No Verizon phone's have been locked to the carrier for a few years now.

Correct they have been carrier unlocked since the iPhone 5 came out. Verizon still locks the LTE bands for data, however. The only phones that have unlocked LTE bands on Verizon are iPhones, because Verizon does not/cannot tamper with the firmware before boxing the phones up.

Evidence? I've had no problem using several verizon phones on T-Mobile LTE bands.

That is because Verizon uses the same bands as TMobile in many areas of the country, so those bands are unlocked. Verizon does not use AT&T's primary bands at all, so they lock it out. (Band 17)
As a quick example, AT&T uses Band 3 in more rural areas and I was able to catch a bar or two of LTE here and there on a 100% stock Verizon Note 7 with AT&T sim card in it since Verizon also uses Band 3, , but it would quickly fall back to HSPA because it lost band 3 signal. I verified this with LTE Discovery app. At my office I only have Band 17 from ATT, so I was only getting HSPA. As soon as I flashed AT&T Note 7 firmware onto the Verizon Note 7, I had full LTE signal on Band 17.
Since Verizon cannot legally carrier SIM lock their devices anymore, they still do what they can to make the phones as unusable as possible on other carriers with their firmware, including a message that pops up every time you start the phone saying "this sim is not from Verizon"

The only reason LTE won't work on at&t is because at&t won't provision it unless it's an At&t branded phone. You can get around this by having them activte your sim in an at&t store phone. My brother used to have at&t and I gave him my old S7E from Verizon which had full LTE after doing that.

That is correct IF there isn't a LTE capable IMEI on your AT&T account, you would need to have them add the LTE capable IMEI and provision LTE. This issue is based on Verizon's firmware and their lockdown, however. I have thoroughly tested this and even entered service mode to see what bands are available with Verizon firmware vs AT&T firmware.
not good news for the verizon pixel with att. Some guy on the pixel xl xda reported he is getting only H+ with the verizon pixel xl. Definitely need more people to check it out. Donr believe PC mag one bit. They said bootloader was unlocked but it turned out to be LOCKED.

I'm using a VZW Pixel XL on AT&T and I have the best reception I have ever had. I don't know why he's not getting LTE coverage, but that's not my experience whatsoever.

If you install LTE Discovery you can see the band you're connected do. If the phone can connect to band 12 or 17, I would say the Verizon version most likely supports all LTE bands.
I am using a Verizon Pixel currently on a 850Mhz/1.9Ghz GSM and Band 4 (2.1Ghz) and I am experiencing no issues. I used my carrier's SIM, and the only thing I had to do differently was update the SCMS in the *#*#3646#*#* to match my carrier's Service Center ID. This allowed my SMS to work. I experience no issues here as the phone operates as though it were unlocked.
I've even used the VZW pixel on T-Mobile and had band 12 carrier aggregation with band 2. Definitely not a problem and same bands.
I believe the only difference is the imei disallows bootloader unlocking. And the post boot Verizon three app install (which is an easy uninstall)
Doesn't att require the imei added for LTE? They audit accounts on the regular and if they find an unknown imei they disallow LTE.

Thanks for posting, VZW wouldn't lock certain frequencies (12 and 17) on the Pixels like others have stated since their phones have been fully unlocked for years. This phone works with all US carriers.

Yup and on top of that they seem 100% feature parity. I've even seen (on my Verizon sim) the option for volte video calling. And volte voice definitely works on T-Mobile as well as wifi calling.
Just the locked bootloader is the only downside.

This is 100% incorrect. It is NOT locked to a carrier, and does support all bands. I have been using my VZW Pixel on other carriers.

The misinformation and confusion about this phone in general all the way around astounds me. It's actually rather simple. The only major difference in the Verizon variant from the play is that the bootloader is locked.

Confirmation of the bands each carrier version supports

First unfortunately it's not just one version for all the carriers as some had suggested. The GSM providers phones do not support CDMA. The T-Mobile version is the only one with the new band 66 LTE. The AT&T version is the only one that supports band 30 (the fastest band in my area)

Seems it had them all. I'm curious as to why the att version is. Band 17 if att themselves use the 17 in many places. It's actually one of the main bands of att and they don't have it showing

Band 12 includes band 17. If the phone truly doesn't support band 17, then I suspect that AT&T advertises the band as 12 and 17 to support it.

So what it seems like to me (im not including sprint nor did I even pay attention to it) is that the Verizon model should work great with both AT&T and Tmobile if one wanted to switch. Looks like the verizon model would be the closes to the factory unlocked model, even more so if they really dont have any Verizon branding on them. But, what is 3G TD-SCDMA that is on the GSM models?
It appears that Samsung's website is showing the same unlocked model for all carriers (G950U*), although I'm not sure why the LTE bands supported are listed (slightly) differently for each carrier. Confusingly, this is a different model than the phones being sold directly by each carrier (G950P for Sprint, G950A for AT&T, G950V for Verizon, G950T for T-Mobile). You can see that that LTE bands supported by those models are different that the G950U as well (the carrier-specific versions seem to have a subset of the LTE bands supported by the unlocked version). I was not able to locate a spec sheet for the G950P.

The links you provided are all to the Samsung website. The Samsung website does not have the same models that the carriers themselves are selling, as I tried to explain above.

It's the same model phone but with different FW. It is possible that specific carrier models only support their own network bands thru FW. In the past, the Samsung would actually have different radio and antenna hardware in the phones.
Given the proper FW I believe the s8 series will function identically no matter which carrier model is used provided the SIM is unlocked.

That's exactly how the US S7 variants were, only difference was the firmware installed. I'm hoping for the same.

LTE Band 40 support on Galaxy S8+ US Unlocked version

I have purchased the S8+ US unlocked variant (SM-G955U1) from best buy and as per the Specs page in best buy, the phone supports LTE band 40. The same is listed even on B&H as well. But the Samsung website doesn't include Band 40 in their specs for Unlocked Variant where as Band 40 is included for all the carrier versions. Since Band 40 is one of the major bands in India and this phone is intended to be used in India, can some one let me know how to check the supported bands on this phone? I tried *#2263# but I get a message that RAT selection option is restricted.
