Hi everybody!
Could anybody explain to me what the airplane mode on my WiFi version of the Galaxy Note Pro is actually good for?
Thanks in advance
Airplane mode turns off all active radios at once. This includes Cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC.
While it doesn't have a cellular radio to turn off in a WiFi-only tablet, it does make for a quick and all-inclusive button for turning off all outgoing and incoming connections. There are moments when that is incredibly relevant.
It is also an excellent battery saver, because it turns the radio off, instead of just suspending activity to it.
It does not affect the GPS receiver. (Due to its importance in emergency situations.)
Thanks a lot. I was just a little bit irritated because of being able to use WiFi, Bluetooth etc. even if airplane mode is on.
That sounds wrong. In airplane mode you should not be able to use bluetooth or wifi should you?
Try it yourself. It works!
I tried it and wi fi and Bluetooth are disabled on my 12.2 Note Pro in airplane mode.
You can use WiFi and Bluetooth, but you have to manually turn them on again whilst in Airplane mode using the toggles. (I always use WiFi and Bluetooth whilst in Airplane mode.)
Android actually tells you that....

I noticed This happening for the past few weeks now.
Sometimes when I go to sleep, I don't turn the wifi off. But when I do, it seems that while I'm sleeping, the wifi turns on by itself.
The screen shots above shows that at the first few hours, the wifi was on, and so was Facebook!
I also noticed in the past that when I turn my wifi off,. Sometimes it will just suddenly turns on.
Can an app be doing this? I have auto-sync activated. Can that be the reason why my wifi just suddenly turns on? Cause on the graph, only the first few hours consumed 30% of my battery. Which is a big deal for me. Cause I don't want my phone to just decide for itself whether it will need data or not. I know it's a smartphone but there has got to be a limit how smart it is. Hehehe.

Probably autosync is the cause. There's no decent app as far as i know to open wifi or mobile data by itself.
Try to disable it and check it out.
Spoiler
Thanks. It seems that auto sync is really the cause. I turned it off and my wifi didn't turn on while I was asleep.

Using App Quarantine widgets for quick disabling enabling.
With Maps disabled, Now works fine in terms of determining my location, however the 'NAVIGATE' action is missing on cards.

What really works for me: processor underclocking + low screen brightness.
Nothin big.
1.Just put it into airplane mode when u have weak network (it sucks out a lot of juice trying to find a stronger connection) or when asleep (so that no one disturbs! )
2. Turn off wifi, gps, bluetooth when not in use!
life!
certainly low screen brightness and put in airplaine mode when I sleep
I just found out that I'm headed overseas for a year. I'd like to take my One M8 with me, but there is no Verizon in the Middle East. Is there anyway to disable the cellular data on the phone? I'd like to still use Bluetooth, GPS and WIFI.
Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure I might have seen an xposed module for this purpose. Putting it in airplane mode and then turning back on WiFi and Bluetooth does it too.
The only thing I've read won't work is GPS.
I'll look for a module. Thanks.
*EDIT* NVM, all 3 work with airplane mode on. [emoji3]

I regularly fly and use my phone in airplane mode. I have an aviation charts app called avare and it works fine with GPS in airplane mode. Altitude and position reported are spot on.

I am currently on 5.0.2 with root. Is there a way to incorporate the new WiFi calling feature in this version? Also, I noticed that on 5.1.1 when connected to WiFi, 4G will grey out. Is this just a cosmetic change or is the phone actually turning off data while connected to WiFi? I would think this would help battery life if it is indeed turning off.
Thanks for any input.
There's no way to incorporate wifi calling unless you update your phone I gave up root awhile ago without xposed framework or a unlocked bootloader there's really no point for me
Incase anyone is interested I was able to enable Wifi calling on my VZW S6 with 5.0.2 root via the method from this thread ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general/quick-guide-enabling-hidden-features-t3087506
The issue is, even though it is enabled, I can't get calls to route over Wifi. I am thinking that there's something on Verizon's side that needs to be turned on. When I go to Settings>>Advanced Calling, the WiFi feature isn't there for me to turn it 'on'. I feel like if we can figure out how to get that option there to toggle it on, it will work. I think we would need something from a phone that has this feature working and use root to apply it to 5.0.2. Anyone else care to try and dig for a solution?

Don't think I've ever had a phone with this many issues.
The latest is that WiFi and SIM standby are taking up huge amounts of juice.
NOTE: it doesn't appear to be an issue with actually transmitting data (unless it's miniscule amounts... ?) Data throughput is minimal; it's as if the components themselves are simply sucking massive juice just by existing.
This screenshot is just an example, but it's similar to this always unless I put it in airplane mode / turn off WiFi, disable SIM radio etc... If turning off WiFi, then SIM radio becomes the culprit, and vice versa.
5 minutes screenon and lost 30% over a few hours. 48 minutes screenon and lost 66% over 16 hours.
Any help appreciated.

Dual sim, bad connection. (really bad by the looks of it)
Are u using 5gjz wifi? Could also drain more of its bad.
Or you have WiFi scanning enabled which means even when you turn WiFi off it's still on scanning for networks for things like location.
Probably wifi scanning is turned on..
