How to setup as a mini tablet? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I just found out that I'm headed overseas for a year. I'd like to take my One M8 with me, but there is no Verizon in the Middle East. Is there anyway to disable the cellular data on the phone? I'd like to still use Bluetooth, GPS and WIFI.
Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure I might have seen an xposed module for this purpose. Putting it in airplane mode and then turning back on WiFi and Bluetooth does it too.

The only thing I've read won't work is GPS.
I'll look for a module. Thanks.
*EDIT* NVM, all 3 work with airplane mode on. [emoji3]

I regularly fly and use my phone in airplane mode. I have an aviation charts app called avare and it works fine with GPS in airplane mode. Altitude and position reported are spot on.

Using App Quarantine widgets for quick disabling enabling.
With Maps disabled, Now works fine in terms of determining my location, however the 'NAVIGATE' action is missing on cards.

What really works for me: processor underclocking + low screen brightness.
Nothin big.
1.Just put it into airplane mode when u have weak network (it sucks out a lot of juice trying to find a stronger connection) or when asleep (so that no one disturbs! )
2. Turn off wifi, gps, bluetooth when not in use!
life!
certainly low screen brightness and put in airplaine mode when I sleep

WiFi Calling on 5.0.2?

I am currently on 5.0.2 with root. Is there a way to incorporate the new WiFi calling feature in this version? Also, I noticed that on 5.1.1 when connected to WiFi, 4G will grey out. Is this just a cosmetic change or is the phone actually turning off data while connected to WiFi? I would think this would help battery life if it is indeed turning off.
Thanks for any input.
There's no way to incorporate wifi calling unless you update your phone I gave up root awhile ago without xposed framework or a unlocked bootloader there's really no point for me
Incase anyone is interested I was able to enable Wifi calling on my VZW S6 with 5.0.2 root via the method from this thread ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general/quick-guide-enabling-hidden-features-t3087506
The issue is, even though it is enabled, I can't get calls to route over Wifi. I am thinking that there's something on Verizon's side that needs to be turned on. When I go to Settings>>Advanced Calling, the WiFi feature isn't there for me to turn it 'on'. I feel like if we can figure out how to get that option there to toggle it on, it will work. I think we would need something from a phone that has this feature working and use root to apply it to 5.0.2. Anyone else care to try and dig for a solution?

Having a DATA sim causes battery to drain very fast (Cell Standby)

I made a previous thread where I tried to force LTE to solve my Cell Standby issue. In the end I couldn't figure out a way to do this on a non-rooted phone.
Until recently I found an app Network Mode that allowed me to select "LTE only" which I thought would solve the problem of my phone wasting his battery to finding a GSM connection (which I guess the problem is).
Cell Standby is currently still on the top with usage, but it dropped from 70-85% to 50%.
But I want it to drop more, is there anything else I can do to test to find what causes him to use this much battery, and possibly disable it?
PS. I don't have this problem when I put my Belgian SIM in my phone which isn't limited to internet data.

Bump
I tried to contact Google, they sent me to Samsung. Samsung said it's a stock android problem so sent me back, placed the bug on their bug system but no response yet. Anything I can try myself while waiting?
Last bump, I promise. I'm stuck between two companies and my phone can't survive a day.

[SOLVED-Hardwareissue] No Data SIM/ No SIM/Invalid network mode (-1)/Bad mobile data

Hello to all,
just want to share a solution for a problem I encountered.
Phone:
Display repaired myself.
Symptoms:
Mobile data and phone reception was unreliable. Seemed to work sometimes, sometimes not usable.
When not usable the network symbol said: No Data SIM/ No SIM, when long pressing on the symbol it said: Invalid network mode (-1)
Cause:
Antenna unplugged, but sometimes it managed to connect due to proximity of the two parts of the plug.
Solution:
Plug the antenna plug back in. (And of course control all the other antenna related contacts.)

So I seem to have disconnected the antenna cable when disassembling the phone for the display exchange. So glad to have my beloved reliable phone back now!
Hope it helps for some of you!
I first tried all the software stuff, but nothing worked. Heres nice and useful links you could use, if you couldn't resolve your issue via my suggested hardwarefix.

[Crowdsourcing] 4G/3G/2G Icon Always Showing Even if Mobile Data is Off

Hello!
So I used to have an EVA-L19C636 on Nougat and tried rebranding it to an EVA-AL10 on Oreo. After doing that, I noticed that the 4G/3G/2G icons are always there even if Mobile data is turned off. This isn't the case with Nougat, as it would only show once you turn on Mobile data.
This is how it looks like in Oreo:

So I was wondering if anyone knows how to disable this?

I'm actually referring to a way involving editing system files, not just for some switch in the Settings or something. Thanks for the input, though. :good:
