Hello All,
I have made up my mind to buy a Nexus S now. But I wanted some inputs from you guys before I go ahead and buy it. So here are my questions,
1) Nexus S version available here in India is a Super LCD version. Cost $400, worth it ?
2) Compared to other phones I am sure, "pure google experience" will be great on this phone. Am I right ?
3)Google (Galaxy) Nexus Prime is due next week. Cost of that will certainly be around $600(not tied to carrier). In the wake of this, I feel Nexus S is a better buy.
4)Will Nexus S actually run ICS and further ?
5)As a phone, how would you rate it?
I would try to get the SAMOLED one. Look on eBay or something. I bought the LCD one to compare with my SAMOLED. In my opinion it felt quite a bit thicker and heavier. The screen was a little sharper for sure but it was much less responsive for some reason. I had to tap the keyboard a few times for it to register properly. Also, the blacks, which r the biggest part of the UI for gingerbread and ics, don't look very good on an LCD. And overall, the nexus s is the best phone I've used. I've had pretty much every phone and like this the best.

I've loved the Nexus S. yes we will definately get the ICS update.
Nexus Prime (or whatever) will be out within the next month or so. The Nexus S is a great phone and I love it but it technically is a last generation phone in terms of specs. I would wait for the Prime. If you like what you see, get the Prime, if not the price of the Nexus S should drop.
You could wait till the prime comes out might drive the price down on ether nexus s
But that said its not worth signing a two year contract for, not sure if thatd how it goes on the other side of the pond

Love the Nexus S. I would wait for second generation dual core and buy Nexus S now. By then the price should be down and the software will make use of dual core.

I had the same dilema. I used to own a Galaxy S (SAMOLED version) and I was wondering if I should keep it until the Nexus Prime will come out or to go first through Nexus S.
I chose to go with Nexus S (S-LCD version). Indeed, the blacks are not so deep as the SAMOLED but there are upsides also: 1. S-LCD is MUCH brighter and outdoor visibility is greatly improved; 2. The images do look sharper and also the colors saturation are more natural compared to the vivid ones on the SAMOLED; 3. there is no risk of screen burn-out at all .. so you can use whatever themes with static images as you like.
As for the Nexus Prime: it will come out at around $800 USD (in the begining) and you will find it at ~$500 USD or maybe less after at leat 3-4 months after launch (these are contract-free costs). Looking at this situation I prefer to wait about half year to upgrade to the Prime version. And by doing that I also take no risk in hitting the early OS version bugs.
Just my 2 cents ....

$800 USD off contract? Yeah right. It'll be $530 range off-contract day one. Every off-contract phone is around ~$530 including the Galaxy S2 for T-Mobile.
You're in Romania, so it may be $800 USD there.. but in the U.S. its $529.99
In Europe we get all the gizmos in euro currency but w/o any conversion from USD. A $100 device will cost here €100. So you see ... not everyone gets lucky.

Guys, I really appreciate all your replies. Considering the fact that the Nexus S Super LCD version is $400(without contract, In India mostly thats how it works. Buy an unlocked phone, pop in any sim and use it), I thought I would go for it. I badly need a phone right now. The Prime is about 6 months away.
The prime is certainly not 6 months away.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
For certain parts of the world it is. Maybe not 6 months ... but at least three.
The dual core processor is a big improvement
I own the nexus s (original OLED) and my GF owns a Galaxy S2.
The speed of the GS2 is noticeable faster and the battery last longer. The problem is that is too big for a man carrying it in his pocket.
If you need a new phone now and you are OK with its size get the GS2. If you want a "google" experience install ROM. It will get the ICS for sure.
If you need a phone now and the GS2 is too big get the nexus s (a lot of members in this forum like the SLCD more than the OLED)
If you can wait get the new nexus prime...

Bhaisaab, wait until nexus prime is announced. Even if the price is too high then at least the nexus S will become cheaper.

I don't know how the Nexus S can get cheaper. You can get the Nexus S I9023 in germany for 237,- Euro while the Nexus One still cost 249,- Euro. I just stumbled over it and now thinking about selling my lovely Nexus One for a Nexus S, because i am not buying a Nexus Prime for 500+ Euro.
Again, thanks for all your replies. I am gonna wait for Nexus Prime. If the screen size is 4.65 inches as told in many places on web then I will go for Nexus S(hoping that price will drop further).
What do you guys say about the Sony Ericsson, Xperia Mini ST15i as a temporary phone? Its about $250. Its got great processor, RAM, Camera. Great graphics, but small screen.

Hi every one.I am new in xda-developers.
I am from Indai and I wish to buy an android mobile which can play games very well and has good gpu.
my budget is around 20,000 INR or you can say 340 US $
I want to buy a mobile with aat least 1.2 GHz cpu and it is good if its dual care and should have good gpu like mail-400 to play games as i like to play games i dont bother about camera and other as with such specification the there will be good camera
I wish to buy it in january but my parents suggest to buy it after i complete my 12th HSC exams i.e. after two years
So should I wait 2 years or not and do you think the mobile price will decrease after couple of years
Thanks in advance and sorry for bad english and grammar mistake, if there is one
If you have friends in US then get a nexus 4, although the 16gb version might be out of your budget. If so, get the 8gb version. Galaxy s2 and xperia p are also good choices.
Sent from my soon-to-be bricked Neo V
I think you can pre-order nexus 4 but the main problem with nexus is that it doesnt have a micro sd slot(as read on web that cannot expand memory)
when u buy such a phone with so good specs u will need lot of memory to store pics and games as i am a gamer additional data for each game would be around 200mb and i am going to store all best games found on earth
i wonder when is google going to give memory card slot for their device as it is the only thing which stops few customera to buy mobile or tablet from google nexus series.
taking galaxy s2 under consideration then it is priced around 25000 INR or you can say around 400 US $ and think xperia P would be around 350 US $
I think waiting a couple of years
will be okay as i alreay own a galaxy ace duos s6802 but cant find cynogenmod specially for my device and my also cant play games with good graphics
but keep on suggesting mobile and will the price of mobile go down to my budget
If yes then what do you think which mobile i worth buying after couple of years

I'll tell you what, i think you should and go according to what your parents say...but even if you are eager to buy a phone why don't you buy LG Nexus 4. And about that space issue, i think you can use a USB OTG on the mobile( Need conformation)....OR you can go for a tab, i think Samsung Tab 2 7.0 will fit your needs....

I have an galaxy ace duos s6802 but to buy a new phone i need to sell my ace duos and carrying a tabley with me is difficult so i prefer a phone not a tablet
And yes google is selling very cheap compared to samsung and samsung uses very cheap hardware
Like my phone has broadcom processor while tipo has scorpion o snap dragon proccesor
I prefer google phones as they give good features for less price
And as i said nexus 4 is out of my budget at this time but it may get cheaper in couple of years
And nexus S is also good one but it only has 1GHz cpu and i need 1GHz+ cpu
so think waiting a few years will be good

so should i choose another phone or keeping going with nexus 4 and hope LG and google will not stop its prodiction

Btw beware xperia p has one of the worst battery backup !

I think you should go with Xperia Neo V. Xperia Neo V is the upgrade version of Xperia neo has launched with new features. This phone looks like amazing with 3.7 inch multi-touch reality display and 5 mega pixel camera and other features also superb.

Thanks for the reply guys
As nexus 4 is not officially launched in my country(India) and it is not available on google play India as well
But on online store the price is not less than 25000INR~416 US$
I think the price is rasied by LG itself because as LG has released its optimus G which has similar specification to nexus 4 and a 13mp rear camera so people would buy nexus 4 instead of optimus G which will not be good for LG
nexu 4 is also manufactured by LG but google is selling it at no profit loss
Do u guys think the same a I do or is your opinion differnt

Hello XDA ,
So I would like to know from your guys. I own a Samsung Star now and I want to get a new phone. This means my first ever Android phone that I will own (I have used Android before, but those where phones from friends). My question is which phone is the best pick to get.
ill use it mainly for apps (mainly games), whats-app, some internet when on wi-fi.
I personally was thinking about the Nexus 4 which is been sold for €450 here in the Netherlands. But what do you guys think? I would love to have Jelly Bean and a fast phone.
Go ahead and suggest me something but keep it under the Nexus 4 or at the same price as the Nexus 4.
#Robert
Go with the nexus 4. I have it and it's definitely the best in the price range. It's so good in fact I've been thinking about selling my old phones to buy a nexus 4.

100% agree!
If I'd buy a new android phone (I'm sure it would be an android phone ) I would buy a nexus, too.
You'll get OS updates really fast and for quite a long time and you'll have a slim rom without bloatware.
Hope I could help!
Nexus 4 is an excellent choice.
Wait for the S4 or go with Note 2. The S3 is now a lot cheaper with the Note 2 out and the S4 being announced.

You are a perfect candidate for a nexus 4 Key lime pie will be out in a few months and you can bet the N4 will have it first.
If you know someone in the US, have them buy it for you. Much cheaper!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
The Nexus 4 is a great phone, but the two big things it lacks are an external SD card and removable battery.
Think about how you'll use the phone and if those things might be useful to you. I keep a lot of music on my external SD card so that it doesn't take space away from apps - I don't live in an area where I can just stream everything all the time, do you ?
If you plan on doing things with custom ROMs and such, an external SD card can be a lifesaver, too - and general convenience. But if you don't, the Nexus 4 might be a good choice since it will receive updates without you having to do anything.
Removable battery is nice because if you are buying off-contract, especially, you don't have to worry about babying the battery - the battery will lose so much charge per year no matter if you treated it perfectly. If you're not getting a subsidized upgrade, that might not be something you want to be stuck with. It's also nice to be able to carry a spare battery especially if you're playing games for an extended period of time (I carry one so I can play emulators between classes without having to worry "what if I don't go right home ?").
Nexus 4 is a great mobile but still there are few drawbacks of this mobile.
Consider other similar mobiles in the price range, S3, HTC, Sony etc
Look about this http://www.wikomobile.com/telephone-portable-Cink-Peax.php at €170
Yes, get the nexus 4 !!
Well , that depends what you like , right now the samsung galaxy s4 is the fastest phone , but not the most beautiful and the one who is better made. The most beautiful and the second fastest phone is HTC one , but this one doesnt have a sd card slot. Personally i will get the htc one with contract from vodafone , it will cost 300€ , its the first time i will buy a phone in this mode , but phones are getting bigger and bigger , and rumors already said that nexus 5 will get a 5.2" display. So every year phones get 0.2" bigger , so i will keep the htc until phones start to get smaller.
That was my opinion. Have a great year

The battery and SD card isn't so bad. 16GB is plenty for me! The battery isn't really of a issue. Most of the time the phone will be in standby.
How is the speed btw? Good enough for intensive apps? including games hehe
But I do agree the Nexus 4 is probably my pick but go ahead with suggestion. I already have 108 euros and need 450 so im getting there!!!
Really exited to get my first ever smartphone, android phone. Some of you might think that I am really behind stuff but he im 18 and didn't have the money first :crying: now I'm working hard to earn it so I can get a new phone
I'd wait for the S4. I mean, the OS is pretty much the same with every phone, so what you really want to be looking at is specs.

Hes gonna have to put up a little more than $100 on top of his budget to even get the S3 or N4. But you're right, any phone worth $200 is probably at least 2 years old if were looking at the average phone market. I have a Galaxy Nexus which you could probably lowball for $150-ish and it does a descent job. Its starting to show its age but development is great on the phone.
I usually get close to 20 hours of use with ~1:30 Hours of display time. Not the best I know, but it does the job
try xperia miro
not recommended for HD gaming though, but it's cool
Android phones using MTK6589 from China are around that price range.
I have 2 China phones THL and JIAYU using MTK6577 and both are quite reasonable for the price.

S3 or nexus 4. I would say try to capture a lil more dough and buy a n4 new but if you can eBay/craigslist one then do it. The gnex battery life is horrible and the nexus 4 is almost guaranteed to get key lime pie or android 5.0 so future proof that 200 bucks because 14 months later you still have a relevant device.

Hi, can you help me decide what phone to buy? I'm currently using Moto G 4G (XT1039) which I really love for it's flexibility (no problem with unlocking bootloader, flashing TWRP, rooting, using custom ROMs) and clean Android, but it's kinda old and during my experiments I managed to break its 3G modem, so I'm looking for an upgrade. What I'm looking for is a phone with around 5 inch screen, good battery and good developers support, a phone that will last for another couple of years, so something with at least 2GB of ram and good SOC. It doesn't need to be brand new, some 2 years old flagships are welcome. I'm thinking about LG Nexus 5 which is affordable and has nice stats or maybe Moto X 1st edition - I don't know. I'm willing to pay no more than 200 GBP. Thanks for all advice.
