Good morning,
Really considering upgrading to the Note 5 from the Note 4 but wondering if anyone is really missing the IR sensor that was taken out. I'm on JOD so I can test drive and return if i don't like it. Thanks

I used the ir blaster every once in awhile. I honestly don't even notice it's missing. I upgraded from the note 4 and I couldn't be any happier. I was worried because of the missing features and smaller battery but I haven't had any issues with those at all. I've owned every note and every galaxy so phone and this is by far my favorite so far
I barely used my IR blaster on the HTC M8, and my Galaxy S5 isn't even setup for it. It was a novel idea, but since I can't control FiOS through it, I moved on.
I don't miss it at all. It was a nice novelty feature that I used a lot at first on the Note4, but eventually stopped and went back to my universal remote.
i was a little hurt finding out that it didnt have the IR blaster like the note 4. I had a note 4 then went to the nexus 6 now to the note 5. not really missing it at all.just have to look for my remote a little more than before. The phone is nice enough as is.
I've had IR blasters on previous phones and tablets, and never really used them. It was an interesting gimmick for a few weeks, then it became more of an annoyance than anything (especially on my Moto Xyboard, the software on that was awful).
IR blaster was cool for trolling on public televisions, thats about the only use it got on all the devices I had once or twice in the life of each device. Peel wasn't even very good imo.
I miss it yess i used it everyday but i just bought qn universal remote. And im all good.

So im in the talks of trading my SGS3 for an Intuition. I'm curious to see how that phone would be on a daily basis. But im afraid I'll regret the decision. I know this forum will be based. But im reaching out to my fellow XDA addicts for their input.
Let me know what you think about it.

I've really been looking at doing the same. It's hard to get decent opinions because most people say it's bad but have never even seen one irl. One of the big problems I have is it will probably never see a custom rom besides root. It's also a rather old phone but it can still play pretty much any game and handle anything. I played with one at verizon and it had some lag but I'm not sure if it's the launcher or not. Kinda bugs me also because I know I'll lose the stylus and it's just a normal stylus you can buy off amazon for like $2 (nothing like a s pen). I will probably buy one to try it, I can see myself possibly loving it or totally hating it, I doubt there a a middle ground.

Same here. I've only played with one in verizon. I'm just afraid of the width hindering it in my daily use. That includes fitting comfortably in my back pocket.

Well I've never broken a phone and I've always done that since my first smartphone. The Palm Treo 755p. Lol. I'm more careful with my phones and now that phones are getting bigger and bigger you don't feel them as much when you carry them in the back pocket because it just feels like a wallet or something.

If you're into getting a bigger phone, I would hold for the Galaxy Note II. It's coming to Verizon, and is likely to see custom roms. I highly doubt the Intuition will see much. The phone seems solid, but LG has lately had problems with keeping up on Android updates (I'm looking at you, Spectrum). Samsung, while not perfect, shows more promise in rolling out updates.

Yea I'm really thinking about the note 2 as well but the format of the intuition makes it awesome for emails, Internet, pdfs ect. The only only place it lacks is watching videos, and it's S3 cpu which is like 2 years old already I just ask myself how often do I watch videos on my phone, not a ton how often do I email look up things on the Web? Probably 200+ times a day.
I probably still won't get it but I'd love to see them make one (and release it in the us) with better specs and fore thought across the board and I'd be on it

THANK YOU! At least one person said it.... If you cannot do anything to a phone besides rooting it then it won't be in my hands.... I have to have full control so I can optimize every aspect of my phone cause we all know the manufacturers won't and Verizon DEFINITELY won't! The LG is a pretty giant leap back so I would wait for the Note 2 or the possibility of another Nexus device but def do not go backwards... (Just my opinion)
If you don't really care about ever using a custom ROM then go ahead. Otherwise I believe the SGS3 has it beat in every category.
I wouldn't. The single biggest problem with the phone is the aspect ratio. Every single review points out how awkward the phone is with a 4:3 ratio.
I would NOT do it.
If you want a phablet, wait for the Note 2. I highly doubt many devs will work on the intuition. You'd get better development off the droid x2.

Is LG considered a top brand now like Samsung or HTC, or are they still playing around in Huwai level standards?
What are their flagship devices - are they still just knock-offs of font runners or do they have their own developments as contenders?

Well, looks like people will have to reconsider seeing as the next Nexus is made by LG.
Samsung Galaxy S3
Intuition has terrible battery life and an even worse camera. I do like the design but there's absolutely no way I'd trade my S3 for one. I'm also waiting on a phablet worthy of ditching my S3. Going to be the Note II probably. Not to mention Samsung has a ton of great tablet/s-pen features that can't be found elsewhere. One last thing is the stylus has no built in holder. You have to carry it separately. Deal breaker right there for me.

I forsee alot of people not getting the next nexus if thats the case.
I'm in the market for a 7 inch tablet. I've narrowed it down between the two. I've done a lot of research, and wanted to know your opinion. I know the nexus has the better processor, better resolution, and better os support. It doesn't have an ir blaster. I want to be able to use it to control my home entertainment setup. Does it work will with the tab 2? Thoughts?

I had this same question when these were still new. I chose the Gtab2 based on local availability and the included SDcard slot. I probably should have purchased the Nexus based off of better overall hardware and "real" updates. Touch Wiz blows and I got rid of it almost right away. Which then rendered the ir blaster worthless which actually worked well for me with the Peal app. There are some Roms available that have been customized and still have a functioning IR blaster but I haven't tried those yet and from what I've seen probably won't.
With that being said, I don't pay any attention to what is thought of being obsolete. Everything I own is obsolete. I'm sure its the same with most people. In spite of my growing annoyance with Android in general I'd say that my GTab2 running PacRom 4.2.2 is going quite well.
Gotta choose what fits your needs. There's enough differences between the two tabs that makes this decision a no brainer once you decide what your device needs to do. Now you got me thinking I may go buy a Nexus 7 and flash this tab back to stock to use as just a remote and maybe some lite surfing. With my theatre setup Peel can eliminate 5 remotes just in one room

Thank you for your input. I know the nexus is probably the better choice as far as hardware goes, but I really want the ir blaster to control my living room. I already have a Logitech harmony to control, but I think a tablet would be much cooler, and more practical. I have a lot of components (computer, ps3, cable, network receiver, and a Wii) I hate touchwiz, but there are other launchers I can use. Does the tab 2 work as a remote well? Can you program it to do one touch commands? (As in hit one button, and have all the associated peripherals turn on and to the correct input)?

I wish I could give you more info on Peel. But I didn't spend much time with it. Day one while I was getting familiar with the tab I had only gone as far as getting everything to turn on and off. I was impressed with that because many reviews complained that the app didn't support the equipment they had but it seemed to support everything I have which is a mix of brands and quality levels. With that being said I don't remember having any issues using it as a remote. Not like some I've had years ago that need to be aimed like shooting at a target and I do remember being able to turn on all my gear with one button. Except the PS3. For the PS3 I used an app called BlueputDroid which turns your device into a keyboard or six axis controller.
I agree a tablet makes for one cool remote control but unlike most remotes you will need a outlet handy. Still very much worth it by getting rid of multiple remotes or at least being able go hide them away for all but the most rarely used functions. Keep in mind the device is not pretty but its not ugly either. The screen isn't going to blow you away but it won't make you want to puke. It won't win any benchmarks but it seems to handle everything I throw at it.

Well, I went ahead and pulled the trigger. I have it setup to control most of my components, but I still need to play with the settings. I'm not really impressed yet with the peel app, but I haven't given it enough time to figure it out. The tab 2 is a little sluggish, but nothing a root and custom rom can't fix. That's next on the list. I really appreciate your comments though.

Very few custom ROMs support ir blaster, I've found that the ones that do are more buggy than stock, which is what they are based off. To be honest, i also wasn't impressed with peel, always had issues, so i haven't been on stock or stock based in som e time.

i haven't experienced Nexus 7, my girlfriend got me my Galaxy Tab 2. i must say that i've spent literally hours and hours of my life with this sh*t.
do not waste your time and money, get the Nexus 32gb and do not deal with this microSd slot ****.
first it wouldn't let you use the 32Gb for everything, so you have to do a "swap" so you can install stuf in the microSD, then the frkn sh*t has ****ed up 2 microSD's, (the 2nd one today) i won't get a nother from the store because i lied the first time saying that it wasn't working from the begining and it would be suspicious to think that i got 2 bad microSD's from factory in less than a month.
so now i must get another one :S!
do not waste your time, nexus is the one.
Home entertainment set up is better with the GTab 2 but otherwise N7 is the better one.
When it comes to quality apps and smoothness I can't recommend any of todays android tablets.
Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it. I'm not disappointed with my purchase. I knew it's not the fastest out there, but it serves it's purpose. I'm still not impressed with the remote feature. Peel just doesn't do what I want. I'd like to be able to set it up like my Logitech harmony, so one button will turn on everything to the correct input. It does this for cable tv, but I'd like it to setup all the correct inputs for my ps3, computer, and Wii. Plus, I'd like an on screen remote, not just buttons with pictures of tv shows. Can anyone recommend a better app?
Also, I also rooted, and thinking about installing the latest sungsonic, but will it stop the ir blaster from working? I know most rom's do.

There are other remote apps, but i think they cost around 50 or so, and i have never used one, perhaps someone else on here has. I wanna say someone said they liked it better, but it may have been another forum.

I was considering either the nexus 7 or tab 2 also after my kindle fire broke about 2 months ago. I ended up choosing the galaxy tab 2 due to the sd card slot, the rear camera, and the ir blaster. I personally love it and it is working great. I mainly use it for gaming, music, and youtube and it handle all of those tasks great. I love how i can store my music on an sd card which allows me to have more storage space for apps and games. It plays all the games i have tried great ( which include gta 3, dead trigger, survivalcraft, scribblenauts, mini motor racing, riptide gp, and star wars pinball, which are fairly demanding games) and video playback is great. The peel app works great and is easy to pair with your home entertainment system. With all these features and good performance i dont see the need to get a nexus 7 and i would definietly recommend the galaxy tab 2.
The tab 2 is also $20 cheaper than the nexus at the moment at $179.

The more and more I use the tab 2, the more I love it. I really appreciate the touch squid app suggestion. I have the demo downloaded, and so far, it's working great. I also have my receiver (which is network capable) setup with my tab, so I can stream pandora anywhere in the house, and have full control without being in that room. I'm currently installing zone 2 speakers outside in my patio area. Anyway, 50 bucks to spend on a remote app is a little much, but if there isn't anything else that is better, I might just bite the bullet. I'm still searching, but if anyone else has any other programs they want to suggest, I'd love to hear it.
Another side question, I know you guys said most of the roms break the ir blaster. Any way I can tell which ones will break it? I'm rooted and itching to flash one, but I need the ir blaster.

Tab2lite and microdelta(maybe haven't tested it) are the only jelly bean roms , that i know of, that have ir support. There may be some ICS stock ROMs, not sure. Personally, i would suggest trying microdelta if it works, because tab2lite is based on an early leek and was slower than stock, for me anyways.

I have a tough question to decide on, which one is better and which one should I keep ?
I like the build and design of Galaxy. Also the screen seems to be better and colors are not washed out.
4.4 is coming to S4 GE anytime soon as well.
I've got both but S4 i9505. Personally speaking just my views and opinion I prefer the AMOLED screen the blacks are stunning as always. But the whites on the IPS panel are better.
The S4 has the removable battery and expandable storage along with the IR blaster and more real estate on the screen due to no on screen buttons.
Obviously the N5 has the faster CPU and GPU but the S600 isn't a slouch either.
The N5 will have much superior development compared to the GE edition if you want everything working correctly.
The S4 is still a great phone but you can decide which to keep.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
I am in the same boat. The only answer I can think if is the following
When the S4 gets Kitkat do the following
Week 1: Use the Nexus 5 exclusively
Week 2: Use the S4 exclusively
Week 3: Go back to the Nexus
If you make it the entire 3 weeks, you should probably keep the Nexus.
In the end both phones are top of the line and most people would be happy with either.
I myself are in the same dilemma and that is what I am going to do... Or get a Note 3

From the reviews on the web, it looks like Nexus 5 camera is inferior to Galaxy S4 GE.
Is this right ?
Not going to lie if they were both the same price i would get the s4. I personally like amoled . I also like the remote feature. The sdcard slot is an added bonus but not really NEEDED for my use. However since they are so far apart in price nexus 5 for me.
So, 4.4 KitKat is available now on GS4 GE (i9505G).
Short story - it's still slower and less fluid than Nexus 5.
So I guess I will keep Nexus 5 and sell GS4.
Just an FYI. I did get the Nexus 5, used it for about 10 days and decided to stay on the S4.
Big thing for me was flexibility with roms, camera and SD card. I thought 32gb would be enough. But once I put a few games, movies, pictures and music I ran out of space and wasn't even done (yes I know it should have happened just didn't think it would be soo quick).
The N5 did feel faster and fluid without a doubt. I guess I realized I needed more of the Swiss Army Knife Solution.

I am considering purchasing a Nexus 6 when it becomes available on T-mobile but would really hate not being able to pair it with my Gear 2. I really have become addicted to it. I had been originally holding out for the Note Edge to replace my Note 3 but then was able to get one of the Nexus 9 tablets and I think that I am becoming a convert to "pure android"! Any thoughts or speculations would be appreciated. Hard facts would be even better.

Probably not... I don't even think you could get the gear to pair on non tw roms? It took awhile for them to port it to the n2 but that didn't have full compatability. The way I understood it is there more concerned with running it on the Samsung devices so it is left up to the devs and I don't think samsung has quite hit the mark on the smart watch market yet.

I have been using my gear 2 and my gear S for a while now. The nexus 6 is no different. There are a couple ways to go about it without using touch wiz. The gear 2 is actually much better considering that there is already a rooted custom rom out for it, and like i said, with that you will get about 95% functionality. I believe the weather app isnt 100% working and one more thing whixh i cant think of, but all the good stuff works perfect and even a few added features. Making/ recieving calls, ir blaster, watch faces, bluetooth, notifica.... all thats 100%. If you need any help or wan't to try it just pm me. I think this op may have found his answer already though.

Hi there. I sent you a PM about a similar request. Can you please check and let me know?
Did you guys actually figure out if it works with nexus 6?
Hi, someone managed to connect the gear 2 with nexus 6? I'm trying but, but I do not get results. If someone have a solution can post a guide?
Would appreciate it too
Please help!!
I have gone through all the methods in trying to connect my gear 2 to my nexus 6 and nothing will work!! Has anyone actually found a way?? I don't mind if some thing don't work, I just like the text and call features anyway.. Please respond to me, I love my watch and don't want to go over to a different one
any updates on this? will the samsung gear 1 OR the gear 2 watch work with the nexus 6 2014 version? thx
I tried following an XDA tread to connect Gear 2 Neo to Moto X 3 XT1575, with watch still on Tizen. No joy.
This method worked easily, but it will be an Android Wear watch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-2/development/please-help-kernel-compiling-android-t2992953
I bought this watch with the understanding the NFC function was working in the USA. Well was I misinformed and blown away considering the Iwatch is possible of making ipay payments. You would think their prime demographic would be this function. The hardwares there what are they waiting on to activate this in the US.
The watch is great. I love the SOS function as Im a fishing guide. Love how its a stand alone phone when not bluetoothed. But was really excited to just swipe my watch and pay for things. The Galazy s7 edge is great at this and thats what I have it paired with. Just killing me every thing is there for them to make this work but what Software???
When the Galaxy S9 is released the NFC will function totally just another two years of waiting.
