NFC Unlock - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone been able to successfully set up NFC unlock ( via the Smart Lock function in Lock Screen ) feature on this phone. I tried and could not get it to work. It is not NFC or the tags I am using - because I have been able to set up custom tasks using the same tags - It is just the unlock that isn't co-operating.

You might try the "smart unlock" app if you can use wifi/bluetooth as opposed to nfc...the xda version supports up to 3 ssid's or bluetooth devices. http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/smart-unlock/app-smart-unlock-xda-version-skip-t2974396

Honestly - I am not so crazy about smart unlock - I was simply trying to see what NFC functionality works - and what doesn't . So far I have noticed that Tap-to-Pay works well, and I am able to trigger various actions based on a NFC tag. However - the smart unlock - did not work - even after I tried various combinations ( such as deleting my Exchange account ) . So I am trying to find out if I am doing something wrong, or is this a universal bug. If no one is able to get this to work, then I will email Alcatel with a trouble report.

[q] does smart lock with Bluetooth device work for you?

Has anyone else tried using a Bluetooth device go smart unlock your phone?
I can register my Bluetooth headset for the function but my phone still gets locked and requires my fingerprint after the screen is off for a few minutes
My phone is locked due to exchange security policies.

Works fine in my truck...
Works fine with my Sony SW3
Works fine with my moto 360
Same thing happens to me, but for location. I raised with Samsung on twitter and they asked me to email them. I've done so. Will let you know if I get any update.
I see the same issue - I have tried with two bluetooth devices and also a location. None of these bypass the need for fingerprint to unlock the phone. I also tried with PIN security - same issue. My phone has an exchange account linked which altered some security settings, maybe this is it? However, same account and same Android version on a Nexus5 and there was no problem.
yea im having issues as well. I do have exchange security as well but this worked fine on my Nexus 5. I'm also having issues where my Nexus 5 could skip songs via bluetooth. This does not work via google music now via my pioneer headunit. I cant tell if this is android bluetooth issues or what??
I have the same issue. Just disabled my exchange policy and it started working. It does not ask for fingerprint or pin any more.
This is weird because same setup on Nexus 5 worked fine. There smart lock overrode the exchange policy, but looks like Samsung has decided to give exchange policy higher preference than smart lock.
same for me just work with car Bluetooth but not with locations
Ok, moved Exchange account into Knox (which is awesome by the way) and now the smart lock works. Proves it was Exchange security causing it.
Cool, looks like exchange is the root cause.
Let me go explore knox as well!

+1 on location. But Bluetooth is perfect for me.
I had the same issue, smart lock works with BT but not with location.
What helped for me: I used location of Home from maps, it wasn't work. When I added "new" place and used near address it started working. I'm not using Exchange with security (I'm used to using Office365 and there isn't this rule)
works fine here over bluetooth to my gear 2 neo smart watch , and my turtle beach elite 800 wireless headphones , also location lock is working here on the w8 stock unrooted.

What is knox? How did you accomplish this - I really want to get this trusted device unlock enabled. Thanks in advance.
I have the same issue - smart lock works without "corporate" account. However when I setup a "corporate" account (Exchange, or in my case - it's Google Apps with Google Device Policy) - smart lock stops working.
You can configure trusted devices/locations, but you need anyway to unlock device using pin/fingerprint/or whatever. Exactly same configuration worked well with recently replaced HTC One M7 (Sense version with Lollipop).
It's my first Samsung device after about 5 years with Android.. is there any chance they fix anything like that, is it worth to bomb tech. support about it?
On the side note, regarding alternative solution - I'm a bit curious how Knox is working. I don't like additional layer it adds to a system, and I don't really need such paranoid level of security, but.. maybe Knox is not so bad? Does it show notifications from Knox applications? How all apps are working in background, or do I need to unlock Knox each time I need to check the mail?
Yay, the upgrade to 5.1.1 has fixed this.
How do you disable exchange policy?
Update took care of it - I did not change anything.

smart lock not working

I want to use okay google in my car to change music but it rails due to the fact the device is locked. I have added several trusten bluetooth devices (removed them and re-added too) and trusten voice enabled but still the device remains locked. I am using the fingerprint scanner to unlock.
How can I start using okay google again?

LOL, for me trusted bluetooth devices is working. The fingerprint is not needed.... Did you try another bluetooth device?
The first time I used this feature with my car audio, it said the my phone has to be at least unlocked once with fingerprint because the bluetooth device has no high security standard.. but now it is working fine...
do other smart lock features work? Like trusted places?
BUT, what you can try, goto SETTINGS->Lock Screen->other security settings->Trusted agents
play around with this smartlock (google), enable disalbe again. I had prolbems with trusted places and this helped for me....

Trusted Location

So is there any way to enable a Trusted Location? Like for example, tell your cell phone not to lock when you are at home? I have added a Trusted device (huawei watch) but I don't always have the watch on and charged. I had Trusted Location enabled on my Nexus 6 but just can't find it anywhere on the Mate 9. Thanks in advance for any help.

did you try (my phone is not in English):
Settings
Advanced Settings
Security (or similar)
Advanced -> Trusted agents (or similar) -> enable Google smart lock?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I Sure did. I've got Google Smart Lock enabled. It's working with my Huawei smart watch but I don't see Trusted Locations and I don't see anything about "on body" unlock - stuff I'm used to seeing with my Nexus 6.
To my knowledge it was possible on the mate 8 but it's not on the mate 9.

sorry, i don't know that as I am not using that feature.. and I am really trying to like huawei mate 9, but it stays more and more at home, prefer OP3T and even HTC 10 more.. and i REALLY REALLY will try to give it another chance..
I still have the Mate 8 and it wasn't poosible on that device either - only bluetooth. Bit of a bummer really.
Anybody has chinese model AL00 in this topic?
I extracted system apps from rom al00c00b156 and found HwTrustPlace and HwTrustAgent
Think, this model has that function...
On my MHA-L29C432 is HwTrustAgent only
P.s. At this time is no way to install system apps from one model to other
It indeed was the Chinese mate 8 with that option.

This is the only feature I miss from my Nexus 6p.
Huawei and there over exaggerated security.
I miss Trusted Face... but yeah, seems like none of that stuff is available...
So funny thing happened to me today. I was missing the trusted places feature as well, since I got my Mate 9 4 days ago. Well today, similar to what my Pixel Xl did, my mate 9 asked me if I wanted to add my current location (Home) to the trusted places. I said hell yeah, and now my phone no longer requires fingerprint or pin unlock while at home.
I can also confirm that trusted face is also available in the same menu that had the trusted places.
The only issue is that I haven't found a way to get back to that menu. It seems since it is a native Android function that it is there, but EMUI has it masked with no menu item to access it.

This is happening to me - got a Mate 9 (US) a week ago, couldn't find trusted places anywhere, today got prompted to add my home address as a trusted place which worked, but I can't find trusted place settings anywhere to add additional addresses or make changes! Bizarre
The Mate 9 does have the feature. It's called Smart Unlock settings. The best way to get to it is going to Security & Privacy, and type Smart Unlock in the search bar.
UPDATE: I found the exact location. Settings>Security & privacy>Screen lock & passwords>Smart unlock. Be sure to reboot for the changes to take effect. I had to do this after pairing it with my car.

Smart lock add NFC tag

In Setting > Lock screen and Security > Smart Lock > Trusted devices > Add trusted Device ..... there is no option for NFC tag. Why is that? It only lets me add bluetooth device. I have NFC tag that I want to use to unlock, but I can't find that in Trusted devices.
Any hints?
Thanks
Still looking for a way to add NFC tag under SmartLock. It worked when I had Nexus 6P. What am doing differently with S8?
tasker + secure settings will do what you want.
Why can't I do it using SmartLock? This was available on Nexus 6P, and it is a standard Android feature. Is it a bug in Samsung S8 software?
Does everyone with stock S8+ have the same issue? Is there really no NFC tag option in Setting > Lock screen and Security > Smart Lock > Trusted devices > Add trusted Device ?
Before firmware update I can used this without problem but now I can't found this settings.
Well then this is a bug. How do we report it to Samsung? I need to unlock my phone when it's on NFC tag, without rooting my phone.
Got an update from Samsung last night, but this bug is still not fixed. No NFC option under SmartLock
It's not just Samsung bug. NFC Smart lock also disappeared on Lineage OS on my Nexus 5 and with out any system updates. I've read that it has to something with Google play services and it's missing from some other phones too.
I need the solution right now. It's very annoying[emoji58]

NFC Smart Unlock was also removed on the Google Pixel phones with a 7.1.2 update and is still gone in the 8.0.0 (Oreo) update I just installed now. It was likely removed because it was buggy and stopped working on some phones (like mine).

Recently, I flashed lineage OS on my Asus Zenfone 2 Z00A, there is no NFC option in Smart lock settings.
Please comment on this why it is not there?

Did you read the post above yours? It explains why. And this is S8+ forum, not Zenfone forum....
Googled removed it due to lack of use. If you have an old NFC tag paired, it'll still work, but no way to add new ones
This is pretty disappointing... I had looked into getting an NTAG216 chip encapsulated in glass implanted, with unlocking my phone as one of the possible novel uses of it, but I guess I can forget that!
I guess we need some tweaks to get back NFC Smart Lock feature, like Magisk, scripts type of method and all that by all means.
Is there somebody who knows how Google blocked it technically?Assuming the culprit must be Google Play Services, though, if so, we done...?

I think it isn't a bug... And it is not removed on purpose... I am running the latest Software for my Smasung S8+ (7.1.1) and I can still add NFC Tags. Under SMart Lock I go to trusted devices and then add NFC tag. I already have two NFC tags in there, so I dont know if this feature is still availible to me because I added one on Version 7.0 so maybe you had to add one earlier to still have this option unlocked which wouldnt make any sence tho... I suggest you try the app NFC Tools Pro and NFC Tasks (like tasker) which both work together very well and let you allow to unlock you phone with the tag.
Best regards
I have found a workaround, though it requires root and manually editing a preferences file.

Smart unlock option / app for stock or xiaomi.eu

Hi guys,
I am looking for a way to add / enable the smart lock functionality to the MIUI ROM (i use the weekly xiaomi.eu).
That functionality is there (i get the notification to enable smart unlock when pairing a new BT device), but it doesn't work.
Is there any way to do this with root? Perhaps a magisk module or a standalone app?
I spent a lot of time searching for it, without any luck.
Thank you!

do you have twrp?
i think this feature come with Gapps... since we have a fork of the current Gapps it will not be availible...
just to be shure.. youre talking about "Smart Unlock" that consists on body detection, bluetooth unlock wen connected to trusted devices, face unlock and voice unlock.
if you're interested on face unlock just change your region to India or Hong Kong.. on the security tab neard the finger print option will apper something like "add face data"
Note if your region is set to India you'll receive news about criket, your music app home screen will be set to some indian music service (it requires 2 clicks to go to the normal music library), your Mi video app will have the same behaviour and in the home screen there will be more Xiaomi related apps.
Hi, this is a standard in Android, but somehow, Xiaomi blocked it in MIUI.
I am using xiaomi.eu weekly rom, i already have face unlock without switching to India.
What i really care about is the ability to keep my phone unlocked while it is connected to my smartwatch and my car.
When i pair a new BT device i get the option to add is as a trusted device, but it doesn't work.
I really love the hardware, but i hate MIUI. Why do they want to re-invent the wheel? Anyway, this is the last time i buy a device with MIUI.
I tried Pixel Experience and Lineage OS, but they have some other problems. For example, if i use Android Auto, once i disconnect the phone, the screen starts to flicker really bad - i cannot use the phone until i reboot it.
So, i have to stick with MIUI......
Cheers!
My understanding, as things stand now (I'm a new guy to MiUi) is the following:
Aside from face unlock, smart unlock functions are essentially broken. Trusted Bluetooth devices only works with other MiUi devices. Current workaround for having your device unlock always in your car, for example, is to buy a mi band and leave it in the car.
As far as trusted voice unlock, I believe xiaomi.eu is waiting on a weekly global beta for mix 3 which they expect to have the required material included that they can poach to get this working on other sd845 devices like mix 2s.
Not sure I have all this right, so someone correct me if I don't....

Even with Mi Band as unlocking device, the function is not really reliable (at least not in my experience).
As often as not, it happens that the phone does not unlock, even with the band on the arm holding the phone.
Buying a band explicitly for that purpose will not satisfy you.
