32gb vs 64gb...any regrets for getting the 32gb? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note5

Hello everyone,
I am thinking about upgrading to the Note 5 from the Note 4. I was originally thinking about getting the 64gb but since they are backorder I have been rethinking getting the 64gb. I currently have a 64gb card in my Note 4 that is full but really looking at it, its mostly Rom backups and music that are taking up the space.
Has anyone regretted getting the 32gb? I know it might be too early to ask this but wanted to get the community's opinion. Thanks.

I was going to purchase the 64gb, but when I went to the store all they had was 32gb & I didn't feel like waiting for one to show up in the mail. I figured that most of my data is stored in the cloud and the SD card in my Note 4 wasn't used for much other than pics and storing data for a few apps that I knew took up quite a bit of space. So far I've been pleased with the purchase and don't think I'll regret it. I should be fine because I don't keep a lot of games or large items installed. Plus, I lived with a 16gb Galaxy Nexus & Nexus 5 for quite some time without expandable storage, so I've learned to live on the lighter side. Having all my music in Google Play Music has really helped with that though.

No regrets whatsoever. I had a 32gb N3, N4, and now N5. You just have to manage your data and maybe invest in an otg card reader for when it's necessary.

No regrets at all. Autobacking-up all pics to google. Over 17gb remaining. And quite a bit of apps installed.

Thanks guys.....I was able to cancel my 64gb (its backordered and they do not know when it is going to be in) and picked up a 32gb version. I am loving the phone so far but will see how the 32gb goes.

I got 32gb WHITE at T Mobile store. 32gb is enough for me .

Impatience always wins haha. Jk.
32gb should be enough. All the streaming and clouding apps make it more reasonable now. It's always nice to know you have extra space but really what do we use it for? With my previous phone i figured I was just hoarding clutter.

I got the 32 gig for the wife and I. As most others stated - In store they only had the 32 gig and I was impatient.
Coming from the Nexus 6 32 gig and never ran out of space.
For road trips I use:
http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Car...sim_147_8?ie=UTF8&refRID=0RRWS20GNAPCZRQ8HNE4
$10 for the card reader is much cheaper than 100 for the extra 32 gigs. :good:

I got the 64 gb lol.

I got the 32, I have 16ish gigs free on the device and have unlimited LTE on TMobile so cloud usage is just fine for me. Thats me personally though. The last two phones that had a mini SD card slot I had a 64 gig card in it and only stored camera pictures on it...and only a few gigs at that. For my usage, 32 is fine.

Going from a 32gb nexus to a 16gb iphone 6 plus to a white 32gb note 5....yea i learned how to manage it lol..going to 16gb teaches you alot ,especially since its a iphone

I picked up a 32gb white Note 5 and so far so good. I was a little sceptical but after uploading all old video and pictures to Google Drive I'm golden. I have all the apps I use installed and have 22gb left. So far, so good! I didn't wanna justify paying 100$ plus tax up front for 32gb more.

Sandisk OTG 32GB amazon FTW

I'm a little bummed about not getting the 64gb...
I used to have close to 50gb of music stored on a 64gb card (in my note 3 & note 4). On many days I would listen to music all day long while working.
Now I stream music way more than I used to, since it isn't saved locally on my phone. The music quality is fine, but streaming seems to use my battery up a bit faster than playing local files. I'm not worried about data usage due to music freedom not counting towards data usage.
Overall the 32gb works fine... just an observation I've had. In an ideal world, there would be an SD card slot on the note 5... but I still really like the phone.

64GB FTW

why would you view your OTG thru twrp instead of normal phone use, try that instead and look in settings/storage to see if it worked.

[Small Review] SanDisk 32GB MicroSDHC (Class 2)

Hey guys,
got my new SanDisk 32GB MicroSDHC (Class 2) Card yesterday and it is performing great so far.
But before that, I'd like to warn you that there are tons of fake cards floating around.
I bought a 32GB Card one week ago and it turned out to be fake:
h**p://img517.imageshack.us/img517/6867/unbenannt3kj.jpg
I've tested to write the full capacity to the card but apparently this card only holds up to 1,9GB.
DON'T BUY FROM EBAY OR OTHER "SMALL BUSINESS SHOPS" You'll most likely get a fake card.
Really pissed after this experience I decided to buy from a reliable computer shop and spend more money and received my 32GB Card yesterday, and what can I say? It's better than I expected for a Class 2 card.
Check out the results here:
h**p://img155.imageshack.us/img155/4060/s32gbsdhc.jpg
As you can see, this card is genuine and you can write up to ~30GB to it.
The write speed with 5,21mb/s is pretty good for a Class 2 Card. Also the read speed is quite decent with 14 mb/s
This is more than sufficient for HD video recording and all the other things you'd wanna do with your Galaxy S.
I didn't expierence any lags with my phone using this card. Switching between photos, music etc.... all goes very smoothly.
Here's also a HDTune (3.50) shot for you guys interested in the read iops:
h**p://img85.imageshack.us/img85/1818/s32gbsdhc2.jpg
Verdict: All things considered, I think this card performs fairly well without slowing down my Galaxy S. Watching tons videos/photos, listening to a huge music library and not having to worry about storage is really great.
The only downside of this card is the price (I've paid 108€) but considering the fact that the iPhone with 32GB is bloody expensive and with this card you would have up to 40GB of storage on your Galaxy S, this card is really a bargain and I fully recommend it.
That's great! I'm also considering to buy one the 16gb class4 version, but it seems difficult to find in Europe.
Where did you get your 32GB card?

some space will be taken by the file allocation table when the card is formatted as with all drives from harddrive to memory cards.
also the 32gb is somewhat less than 32gb in true storage size

I've bought it in Germany (ARLT Computer).
talking about memory and disk stuff,
32GB=32.000.000.000 bytes
wich is, 30517,58 MB or 29,80 GB
this is for the simple fact
a 8GB hard disk contains 8.000.000.000 bytes
a 8GB ram stick contains 8*1024*1024*1024=8589934592 bytes
That's a lot of cash considering a non-fake Toshiba Class 2 16gb is currently selling for £17.99 delivered in the UK?
€108 equates to about £90!
32GB cards are currently considerably more expensive than 2 x 16GB cards.
Where's the deal on that 16GB in the UK btw...?
So you can use micro SD HC cards with the galaxy s? I was told that you had to use an adapter because the device only has a micro SD slot? Sorry if this is a silly question, i haven't really dealt with external flash storage that much apart from my old sony ericsson walkman phone which used stick pro duo or something like that.

Er, that depends. To me having a 32GB card is well worth the extra expense, may not be to others, but its not a black and white issue as you suggest.

Yea, it doesn't lag; at least there is nothing what I would describe as "laggy".
It does take some time to load 100s of photos on the gallery app, but I think this is quite normal.
At least if I view a hires picture, it opens up near instantly. Switching between pics and focusing also happens very quickly.
I'm happy with it so far. Having used this card for more than two months I don't have any complaints at all and I fully recommend it.
How is 720p hd recording with the card? Try it and see if the recorded video is stuttering. Ty.

but it was on sale for 10 bucks cheaper and i guess the sale has ended. but if your set on a class 10 than sandisk ,patriot and lexar seem to be the most popular. i was looking for adequate and cheap with decent reviews of it actually working so thats why i got that one. im happy with it so far. but for 10 bucks more might not be worth not going for the class 10's.

Music, movies, documents, pictures, all of the above. The advantage to the modern smartphone is that it eliminates the need to carry multiple devices everywhere. With a phone like this one, it would be a shame to NOT have a couple of your favorite movies on it in good quality, as the screen is excellent and I'm pretty sure that's why there is a mini-HDMI out on this thing.
As for mine, I keep The Hangover and a selection of a couple other movies I could watch 200 times over on my phone. I also have about 4GB of the most recent flavor of musical interest as well, and keep some general information PDFs and some tech files and notes for work and school on my phone. Oh, and I plan on using it as my primary camera at the next few trade shows I go to.

What size Galaxy s6 did you get(32gb, 64gb or 128gb) and why

Hello all,
I should be getting my 64GB Galaxy s6 tomorrow(so pumped up...new toy) but i am hoping that with all the stuff i have on my phone now that 64GB will be enough.
Am i the only one that is thinking this?
Most likely i will play with it over the weekend and see what to do then. but i think i should have gone bigger..
Thanks
I got the 64GB to replace my S4 16GB+32GB mSD which I never filled. The price to upgrade to 64GB on Edge wasn't bad, and even though I never filled it before, 32GB felt "limiting"
164GB just sounded silly for my needs. But, if I traveled more I'd want the music and movie storage

Also got the 64gb.
Had to stop myself from buying the 64gb edge.. Was a lot easier when the guy offered a wireless charger, meant less money to spend.
64gb because 128 is far too much and 32gb is far too little.
If I wanted more than 64gb I'd simply OTG it up!
i bought the Edge 64GB because they didnt have the 128GB available and will learn to live with less space.
bigger is always better
you should have gone for the 128gig one, especially when u start talking about movies and series they will gobble up your space in no time.
128 GB because...
- It's only $100 more than the 64 GB.
- Even with cloud storage and services, I like to download torrents directly to my phone to watch later.
- If I want higher quality music, I'll download FLAC files and those take up a lot of space.
- I know I'll regret getting anything less than the max space they offer.
- I can't add space at a later date.
- The phone will definitely have a high resale value as this is most-likely the rarest S6.
- It's only $100 more than the 64 GB.

But still more than if I were to sell a 32 GB or 64 GB a year from now.
I am getting the 128gb just planning ahead. Who knows what is in store for us in the future, and I just wanted to make sure that I had enough.
I too am coming from an S4 with 16gb +32gb SD (since the S5 wasn't a large enough leap to make the change), as I am sure many feel the same way.
I ordered the 128gb because there isn't a micro SD slot anymore, and I don't want to have to worry about memory. Just peace of mind really.
I picked up the 64gb version. Although the 128 was only another $100, I didn't need that much space.
I too got the 64gb. You have 50gb free on a new device. For me that's plenty and if I fill it up with pics I can just dump them on my computer. I also have a tablet with an SD card I can store stuff on. If I only had a phone though I might opt for more.
I got the 64 because I had an s5 worth a 16 gig sd card and both were pretty full. Also like stated before, who knows what's in store for us in the future. Also, apps seem to be getting bigger and bigger.
So the system files take up 14 GB?

System is a little over ten and then apps take up some more. It's between 12 and 14. Don't remember exact number.
I got the regular Galaxy S6 64GB in black sapphire on Verizon. I used about 20-25GB on average when I was using my Galaxy S4. So 64GB seems to be more appropriate for me. 128GB would have been nice but for the price point, I don't need it that much.

i purchased a 128gb white S6. I'm coming from a 32GB + 64GB SD Card S5. I like to download my spotify playlist to the phone, i also listen to tons of podcasts, plus I sync my school files/work files to the phone through Dropbox/Dropsync. I don't want to worry about running out of space.
Well i decided to trading up to a 128gb from 64gb. I talked to Verizon and made the trade.
I should be getting the 128gb on the 24th, so until then i will be using the 64gb:good:

32gb is enough since it has micro sd support

But for 20 bucks more you get double the memory. Add a leather back and your done for $500 or maybe even less!
Would be cool and mean most would likely buy the 64Gb for $450, but I recall a few of the media at the launch asking and Moto reps said $50 bumps for the other two storage sizes. That would mean $450 for the 32Gb and $500 for the 64GB. Seems no way Moto would price that low and would eat into margins like a "sumbich' and make no pricing sense from a consumer elasticity standpoint. They could charge more, sell the same volume and make a lot more money, since the margins are not enough to sway most consumers at those prices. If a market is that price sensitive, they would be buying the lower tier models anyway.
I think Motorola needed to do something drastic. Since there sales haven't been that great the last few years. Considering htc and samsung sales aren't as good as they thought. This wouldn't be the bs storage upgrades that samsung and apple have.

Same thoughts here as well. I haven't even maxed out my 16GB GS3 here, :good:.
Tom's Hardware has the info given from Motorola in a Play and Pure/Style article released today and shows as the Moto reps said on some of the media launch videos:
16GB = $400
32GB = $450
64GB = $500
That sounds more believable.
Still great prices. Moto just needs to make enough of them on time.
So with SD card support is there really a need to go much higher? My music is stored on card anyway
I think the 16GB version is fine since I already have a 64 GB micro SD card. That's the beauty of it all.

If you have a lot of apps the storage is nice. Newer 3d games take up 1.5gb of space. My Note 4 32gb is as full as I can get it and still update apps, but I have over 15gb more games I can't install since no space.
I worry about the sd card going bad. Happens all the time. I prefer more storage in the device so it get's the same warranty.

Stop buying cheap SD cards as thats most likely the reason why your SD cards keep failing. I only buy SD cards from genuine retailers online or instore. Too many fakes about.

I worry about the sd card going bad. Happens all the time. I prefer more storage in the device so it get's the same warranty.

32gb is enough for a phone with sd card

32gb owners, how will you cope with no exSD?

Preorders are now live! After first ordering the 128gb, I decided to switch for the 32gb + device protect, for the same price. If image quality is full in the cloud, theres no reason to keep photos on the device taking up space. I don't keep video's on my device. Now the only thing competing with apps for me is music:
I have a 35gb library in the cloud, and would like to keep a bunch of it offline. I would really much like to use one of those wireless sandisk SD cards to connect to my offline library when I need it, and just use streaming otherwise. Is there any way something like this can be integrated in the play music app, where you can select the wireless storage as the offline location? I dont want to get crazy with OTG, and this would be a great solution is it is possible.
Looking forward to meeting all the new pixel owners
Not everybody is so comfortable allowing google to have access to ALL of their personal data. I sure am not, but at the same time, I don't fault them for offering it. Forget device protection -- I get that kind of insurance provided by my credit card on all purchases. Bought the wife a 128 GB, since she's something of a shutterbug. If the thing had an sdcard slot, I'd have gone for the 32.

I actually canceled again and went for the 128gb + protection plan -.-
Great tip though, going to check my banks now
Just tried to order the black xl 128gb and saw it would ship out 6 to 8 weeks. NOt sure if I can wait that long and with verizon bootloader unlockable effin sucks!!!
How much space is actually free? Since there are actually 2 system partitions (one active and one for shadow update) I have the feeling that there is even less available for use...
i have nexus 5x 32gb and I did just fine. i don't even use the cloud for pics/videos. and now with unlimited cloud storage for photos and video, and seeing how I upgrade yearly, i'm not even worried about storage space.
i went with the really blue 32gb. super excited!
i am definitely torn between 32gb and 128gb.
i have a 32gb 5x as well, but i kinda came close to filling up my internal storage for the first time (mostly photos/videos of the kids, but also some downloaded music and podcasts). before this phone, i'd assumed that 32gb was as big as i'd ever need, but now i'm not so sure.
that said, i don't need MUCH more than 32gb (almost certainly not 96gb more for an additional $100), and the cloud photo storage thing might actually solve my issue... so i'm leaning 32gb right now. but given that i'm paying a premium price for a premium device, is it silly to cheap out on storage?

I have the same doubt...
Lets say that feature consumes 1GB...I would change that feature for the GB that presumably requires without thinking ( I don't care to reboot my phone once every month after the security patch).
Now if it uses less space, 500MB, a 32GB device should be a problem.
If you have a 5G data plan, you don't need lots of storage space.
I am happily using a 8G Moto E2 since I dropped and cracked the screen of my old Nexus 6., while waiting for the Pixel.
Apps does not take up that many space. A few big games takes up 1-2G each, but I only install 1 or 2 of those big games at a time. (I can't play games on Moto E2 )
Spotify, audio-book, podcast, downloaded contents takes up another 1-2G. I deleted the audio after I consume them. (Moto E2 has external SD, but I only used around 1G)
Google Map offline data takes 500MB, but you rarely need more than 1-2 map at a time.
Video and photos takes up most of the space, but since Google offers unlimited full resolution backup, you don't have to store them on the photo.
The only limitation is save up movies or TV show for offline viewing in flight, but I have to carry an external SD reader.
I've had 32gb Nexus 5x for the last year, did not come close to filling it up. I will be fine.

I usually have various ROMs, backups, movies, etc. on my phone. I have found that I often push beyond the 32G. On my N6 with 64G, I have about 20G free and I just cleared out some movies and backups. As just a reference, TWRP backups on my N6 are about 10G each.
I've had no storage issues with my 32GB 6P so I'm sure I'll be fine.

Annnnnd I cancelled and ordered the 128 gb.
I had the HTC 10 which was the first phone that had expandable storage. Having a Nexus phone for such a long time, this seamed strange to have an sd card. I have got into a habit of transferring my largest files to cloud or a usb drive. TWRP back-ups are a big issue. I keep only one back-up, having a Nexus 5 for the past 3 years.
Its all manageable LOL
Like.. unless your hording mp3s I don't see a storage issue with 32gigs.
Then again i stream all my music and backup photos to the cloud. But that's the future/now of doing things.

Is it actually confirmed verizon locks the bootloader with their own encryption or whatever?
Google's bootloaders come locked, but its as easy as a fastboot oem unlock command (now two step with dev settings)

64 would have been ideal. If it was a $50 upgrade to 64gb, I would have gotten that one. 32gb is just too little without a SD

Also coming from the HTC 10 (+200gb SD card), which is being returned. HTC 10 was $600, has expandable store, front facing speaker(s) (kinda), and free damage warranty (vs Pixel's $99 + $79 damage). So the Pixel a $650 + $100 for expandable, + $100 for the warranty is a lot more for arguably less.
I'm going for the Pixel for 2 main reasons: the HTC 10 is just too big at 5.2" + capacitive buttons. 5" + virtual buttons on my M9 was perfect. They also really f***ked me over. I had a cracked M9 beyind use, and needed a phone fast, so I decided to trade in my UH OH and get the HTC 10 for a $100 credit. Now apparently for the entire month of August, they did not let any customers apply UH OH credits on the HTC 10, despite letting me redeem the code and *delete* my warranty. I have this in writing from them from a BBB dispute. They refused to even return my warranty to the M9, to use as a spare, after I bought the HTC 10 WITHOUT using the code. I wont ever buy a HTC phone again (dont remind me -_-), and if anyone wants to file a class action please message me

thats all I do. I stream as well, but I like to keep 10-20gb of my favorite albums on me at all times. Streaming doesn't always offer a seamless transition between songs, and I often angrily take out my phone and fidget the play/pause button confused as to why it stopped.
I'm on the fence currently. My wife wants a new phone and I had convinced her to wait to see what this looked like. But it's really expensive at 128gb and she fills a 32gb storage card every month. It is going to come down to how good that camera is and whether it beats the S7 enough to warrant the money and the lack of SD.
I think 64GB is an ideal size for me. My current Nexus 5X is a 32GB phone and it always prompt that I am running out of space.
i really hoped they have a 64gb available...
Hey guys/gals FYI the max available storage according to Android Central is 23GB. I should be fine but the details are here http://www.androidcentral.com/google-pixel-heres-how-much-space-you-really-get-32gb-models
