[First time ROM change] Flicker line going down on screen in TWRP and custom ROM.?! - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Firstly, I have a Motorola 4G LTE peregrine.
Over the last couple of days I've followed the guides to the best of my ability to be able to install a custom ROM.
I unlocked the bootloader via the official Motorola way, rooted the phone, and installed TeamWinRecoveryProject. I'm trying to install a variety of ROMs but having no luck.
The only ROM I could install was Slimkat (SlimRom). I would like to use eithe SlimRom or CarbonRom for their no-nonsense simple firmware and for maximum battery life.
However I'm finding continuous issues. The biggest is that there's a constant moving flickering line that runs down my screen on TWRP and the SlimKat rom.
Slimkat also does struggle to load as well. The first time I flashed it, i got through to the first time setup menu but got bombarded with Google service failures. The second time, it now seems to be stuck in a boot loop of just flashing the logo.
Anyone know anything about this flickering line and why ROMs are failing to install?
This is very frustrating. I am not a phone user who wants to spend hours trying different roms. I liked when phone's were phone's and not much more. The sheer level of micking around I've had to do to get here and have outcome is frustrating and ridiculous as it is. I loved Kitkat and my phone auto upgraded me to Lollipop which I hated - Lollipop ruined my phone and made is borderline unusable. Right now, I just want to have a phone that's simple and trouble free.
Really appreciate any help here. Please treat me like an old nan of yours who doesn't know technology too well. I'm still learning. Sorry kids! (even though I'm 24 Lol).
Thanks folks!

upgrade to the latest bootloader with this tool
the flicker will dissapear
or just lock and unlock your device

Hi guys

Sup xda, my names Bilal and this is my first time posting here. I do have a question though but I've got a lot I want to talk to you guys about
I got my tmobile mytouch 3g about 4 days ago. On the first day my cousin had already told me about this site and how beneficial it would be to me real soon xD. The next day I had already begun looking up important things i needed to know to end up with a custom rom on my phone. I looked up the specifications to my phone (like checking the radio and SPL versions) I found out my phone was a 32B and had new SPL and Radio. I found out the Roms that would be compatible with my phone as well as the method to go about doing it. the next 2 days basically consisted of my going through over like 15-20 different methods over my phone (but all of them basically had the same routine). I mean, you have to root it then get a custom recovery than flash the custom rom. But this is simplified as I'm pretty sure i searched and found 3-4 different ways for the simplified root recovery rom steps. Anyways it was real frustrating since I failed many times on all 3 steps . Anyways with the new SPL Radio 32b Mytouch phone 2.2.1 (since i idiotically upgraded it to 2.2.1) just flashed cyanogenmod 6.1.0 about 30 minutes ago. Haha I'm so excited to see the possibilities.
I wanted to thank this whole site and the people from the unlockr because i searched a ton of guides and Google'd over 50 questions to figure out the process suited for me and even though it ended being extremely easy compared to the people who had to work hard to develop all the things involved in making Rom Manager, Clockworkmod and Armons Custom recoveries, and every easy step in the process that we take for granted. I didn't have a clue in programming scripting developing software or ROM's for anything before flashing my phone. After doing it I still don't have much of a clue even though I feel like I did learn a whole lot I know I'm way more interested in learning how things work.
You could have probably skipped this whole essay and went straight to the question though xD.
My question at this point was what exactly are all the possibilities (or some that I'm not aware of) that my phone has now that it has flashed cyanogenmod 6.1.0
One thing that I have definitely noticed and feel that alone, was worth the 4 days of tirelessly failing, is that my phone has become a lot faster, and I mean in everything that it does, from opening applications to loading videos on youtube. I know I could probably search this as well but I just wanted to advice directed towards me as far as what to do next? Ive been messing around with the themes (can only use ADW as far as I know) but was wonting to find a live unlock pattern screen? I found one on youtube and I'm 90 percent sure the guy had the exact same phone as me. Also any advice on details for upgrading the overall performance on my device would be great help.
Thanks guys glad to be here
Glad that you learned some stuff. Stay around here for a while and you'll learn alot more. Anyways, yes, there are many possibilities available for you. For one, I would advise updating to CyanogenMod 7. Just go here: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/htc-slide and choose a category to suit you. NB: The "Experimental" build category is not as "dangerous" as it sound. These build are actually Release Candidates which mean they are almost (if not) good enough to be a Stable build. Since you're just beginning, you may just want to use a stable build for now. But later on, you may change your mind. There are also many apps you may want to try like: SetCPU (to make your device even faster than it is now and/or to save battery life, Titanium Backup, Rom Manager, etc. ADW is NOT the only launcher you can use. It just came as the main launcher for your rom. There are many other launchers like Launcher Pro, etc. For the "live lockscreen pattern, you could try Ripple Lock (Honeycomb Lockscreen) or the sense 3.0 lockscreen found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190071 . Cheers!

[Q] Rant on triumph

Bought this phone soon after release, the phone and data plan seemed like a worthwhile effort to swap the carriers. Previously I owned HD2 (android-stock sense) on T-mobile. While the phone wasn't the perfect one, I'd still prefer HD2 over Triumph if it wasn't for carrier lock. The first problem was the touch screen, it's unresponsiveness to be exact. I was busy during the time so the 30 days flew in a moment and when I found the time to deal with phone, it was too late to return it. To my relief, the development started to pick up and I was hoping for improved ROM i could flash. Around this time I started to notice other problems; GPS, slow unlock and terrible sound capabilities to name few. While the Roms were a great achievement and I give big thanks to all the devs who have the time and patience for development, most of the problems didn't go away. In addition major bug with video driver was found. This phone isn't the worst out of bunch, and it's not unusable at all, just looking at other phones, considering how much I paid initially leaves wishing for a better device without such apparent bugs.
P.S. Since I'm stuck with this device which Rom would be better, Latest CM gingerbread or modded stock firmware?
CM7 Reloaded for sure. Check it out here
http://androidforums.com/triumph-all-things-root/470282-rom-cm7-tg-reloaded-latest-01-14-a.html
Choosing which rom is best depends on what you use and like... If you use hdmi out regularly then I would suggest a stock based rom, if you use wifi and bluetooth at the same time a lot, then a stock based or cm7-tg-reloaded, if you like easy custimizability with lots of options then I would suggest Miui... What I would do is just flash different roms and maybe use them for a day or so each and see what you like best... Also you can find more help and faster on android forums for the MT. I think a lot more people are more active over there than on XDA...

S3 constantly crashing

Hello,
I bought a VZW Galaxy S3 at the end of May. I left Touch Whiz on it for about a week before I couldn't stand the look of it any more, It also started freezing and I would have to hold the power button down to reboot it. This would happen 2-3 times a day so I decided to go with a custom rom. I had rooted and installed custom roms on my Nexus 7 several times before so I felt comfortable doing it on my S3. I was able to root it and unlock the bootlader and I installd TWRP as my custom recovery. I flashed the AOKP rom and was using that for several weeks. Initially it worked great and crashed maybe once a day but I figured that was normal for a custom rom. After a few weeks it started to crash more and more. I finally ended up restoring the phone from an AOKP backup I had made the first day. That seemed to help a bit. After it started to get worse again I switched to SlimBean. This one was the worst. It worked good for a few days then crashed constantly. Finally, after getting extremely frustrated I flashed CM 10.1.2 I decided to go with one of the Milestones to be on the safe side. This was working great until now. It constantly freezes and crashes. Also, many of the apps crash. I am just wondering if this is an issue with how I unlocked and rooted it or if this is an issue with my phone? I have also noticed I have terrible reception with any rom even stock. What roms would you guys recommend as a very stable one? I know CM is supposed to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post I wanted to make sure I included enough information.
Thanks.

[Q] xt926 BL unlocked, reflashed and rooted, but... ím searching for the right rom.

First of all, thanks to iBolski for kindly pointing the finger into the right direction and help me unlock and reflash my recently bought phone.
Now now....
I understand that all or most of the Qualcomm MSM8960 motorola phones share the same rom/s so my question is not about which one would be the correct for this phone model., but for me.
I just landed here but i'm not new to xda, i come from a Galaxy Ace 2 (i8160), great machine using Teamjanica's rom (and that's how is going to stay), i had an LG p990 on which i also put a custom rom (can't remember wich one now...) So i'm not unfamiliar with CM, CWM, reflashing etc... And i know there's always some roms that work better than others or have more/less features than others, I just would love to avoid being the next month or so testing, erasing and starting all over again as ussual.
This is the thing: I'm searching for stability (Under KitKat??? -> my i8160 is flawless and fast!)) smoothness and responsivity.
I have my xt926 flashed with slimrom and is kind of laggy, twitchy, it has some issues with playing music, stutters, freezes, etc... So is quite not what i'm looking for. (And i don't like Nova Launcher, i'm more of Trebuchet or Apex)
The Official JB and KitKat "from Verizon" were lightnings and after taking out all the bloatware they became even better, but there was several things that i didin't like (mainly it's launcher) and there are a lot of things that i love from CM. (Apollo and the DSP manager to name a couple)
So, considering this (and that you are tired of reading me) could the experienced people here point to some light but not skinny, smooth but not sleepy rom that is not filled with "features" (other than the ones that come with vanilla CM -i like the buttons "pie" actually-)
P.S. I can't flash the "official" CM build because CWM 6.0.4.8. says that CM is for a (bunch of phone) and my phone is a ""
I would like to read your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

ONEPLUS ONE: Installation process of LINEAGE OS 16 stops with ERROR 7

Hello everybody!
I'm Martin and looking for a helping hand with my OnePlus One. Which is actually my first smartphone ever. That should tell you how experienced I am in flashing ROMs. I got it early 2015 and as big brother was bothering me I rooted it instantly to have AFWall+ and AdAway installed. Rooting my phone really made me sweat because I feared I might brick the thing. So when an CyanogenMod update killed my root a few days later and I had to redo the whole procedure, I decided to stay away from future updates so as not to take any further risk of losing my root again. Which means I'm still running on CM 11.0-XNPH05Q.
This worked fine for me for years but with 2020 rolling in I can't deny anymore that there's hardly an app left that I can install in its most recent version. There's also a rising number of apps I can't even install at all. So unfortunately I cannot ignore the situation no more. As CM is dead I considered buying a new phone. But I'd really like to avoid that as long as possible because my OPO is of great non-material value to me. On the net I learned about the successor Lineage OS which I tried to flash last weekend. Well, I failed miserably. Furthermore I have no idea what "error 7" should tell me. This is what I did:
1. Updated the Recovery successfully to TWRP 3.3.1-0 => reboot
2. Created a backup of my existing CM Boot, System & Data
3. Wiped Dalvik, System, Data & Cache => reboot
4. Attempted to install the ROM but got an error 7 instead; I tried several times but to no avail
I doubt that I have accidently downloaded a wrong ROM or wrong Recovery. All of them are marked as suitable for bacon. But then again who am I to rule that out. So if error 7 means exactly that just let me know.
To make my OPO operate again I restored the backup. It did work but for now I'm stuck. I'm aware of the fact that I'm probably the wrong guy in the wrong place here as I'm neither a developer nor a flashaholic. But I really don't know anybody else I could ask. So if you have any idea at what point I messed things up I kindly ask you to drop me a line. Any help is appreciated!
If you don't mind I'd also like to use the opportunity to address another question. I'm wondering what the best ROM for my OPO might be. I understand the overall attitude on this platform that there really is no best ROM for all of us. Probably true, but there is certainly one for me. I'm worried that I might experience problems with LOS 16 as the team is still banging out nightly builds almost every day. What I am looking for is a ROM for daily use. So it needs to be
- absolutely stable
- responsive
- battery-friendly
I also expect all the built-in technology like camera, flashlight, bluetooth, WLAN etc. to work properly. Nothing fancy, just something that turns my OPO back into a sturdy tool I can rely on. If that means to flash a ROM with an outdated version of android then so be it. I can't afford to miss the call to pick up my baby girl from kindergarten or lose a precious moment with her because the signal isn't stable or the camera doesn't work. So should I stick with LOS 16 or do you have better recommendations?
Did you did a manual wipe of /system before installing the ROM? Maybe your data was encrypted? Then you'll have to format full data.
Or maybe you don't have the least of free space in your data partition? Maybe?
Anyway, all roms are good, some people has LOS with more battery useage than other AOSP ROMs, other peoples don't.
Just try, there's a lot & lot more of ROMs out there.
