This years Moto E for Verizon came with a powder blue bumper when it was released as a promotional item, so I'd believe it.

That would be awesome! Hope that "promo" is not just for the USA but worldwide.
Basically last year LOADS of people smashed their screens even after just one fall ... soo I guess this is to help prevent that.
All phones are like this now ... why? Because the screens have a curve at the ends and also Metal body phones dont bend instead they just pass on the impact rather like plastic which can take impact (be it damage lol).
So yeah ... expect Free Bumper

Just a rubber band that goes around the frame of the phone. Unlike a case it doesnt spoil the look yet still gives great protection.

So I may have been misinformed about what a bumper is. Sorry guys. The one that came with the Moto E had a back on it, but it was clear. It did still come with the same type of protection however.

my question is, concerning the back covers. Is it worth taking a custom one from motorola when ordering (bamboo, leather etc) or is just better to take the basic one and buy one from third party? (if any available)

They are not like the Moto X Play. The Moto X Style does not have removals back cover.

There's been a lot of posts about cases lately and I'm obsessive over having the best suited case for my phones. As of last night I now have all the big name cases. The OEM "hard shell" case made by HTC, the hard rubberized one sold by T-Mobile, as well as the Otterbox. I'm working on a full review with pics in between my studying and classes so I'll try to have it up by late tonight or tomorrow at the latest.
I have to say I'm not FULLY satisfied with any of them, as they each definitely have flaws, but at least people will be able to see which one best suits their needs.

OEM is original equipment manufacturer, just means its an actual HTC product. Yea, right now I'm using the HTC front but I don't like how the camera button isn't covered. The tmo rubber one is just too sticky in my pockets and blocks both the top of the keyboard and the left side of the screen when trying to drag across home screens.

I got this exact case. If you are getting an international HOX you're good but it doesn't fit the AT&T one precisely.
Edit; I take that back... It fits fine but makes it hard to press the power button. I just realized the auction said for the AT&T one and I was thinking of one of my other 12+ cases. Lol.

They have the other models that are not as loud.
The problem with any hard shell with NO internal neoprene/rubber, it will get debris and scratch the phone all up.
Only phones with some internal soft rubber material protect the phone inside properly I've found.
Happy with my speck candy shell just plain one, no grip/gaming model like that ugly one posted.
Of course, why they don't have a white one available is beyond me...common trend with case makers for this phone...
Incipio Feather Case is the absolute best. The light blue one is a stunner.
I started this thread so I just wanted to let you know that this case doesn't align to the connecting dots on the back.

I had a discussion with Moto US & Latin America Customer care
Moto America Told Its a rugged phone better then moto G in terms of reliability & durability.
Moto LA told they do not have any information, Plz be patient till launching.

This phone is pretty damn durable, I've dropped it countless times with the regular shell and the screen still perfect.

Though that is comforting to hear, i notice that yours is a US version of the phone. In the Indian dual sim version, they have used some cheap components unlike the US version, like having some **** co. manufactured memory instead of the samsung one used in the US version. So not sure how it would hold up in the long run!
Even i have managed to drop the phone a couple of times, but I am using a azmer hybrid case for protection. It does screw up the phones amazing looks, but hopefully provides some much needed durability. As they say, better be safe than sorry!

I wasn't aware of this. You should get yourself a grip shell in that case, it's a little expensive for an accessory but it does make the back more durable and also prevents the phones screen from shatters or scratches when falling flat on the ground.

The case i am using is kinda like a grip shell but claims to be sturdier than a grip shell! It does add a lot of bulk and weight to the phone though

I know this phone hasn't even been released yet so this thread is a little premature BUT hear me out.
Last year from what I can see from the Moto X 2014 threads was that there was not a single tempered glass screen protector that actually worked thanks to a slight curve at the edge of the glass. Which makes me think it could possibly be the case this year also.
I know one tempered glass screen protector is actually now available to pre-order on Amazon ... although it does have a in stock date of Dec 2015.

I don't know how big a jump from gorilla glass 2 to 3 is.. But 2 didn't really do much for me. I'll be getting some kind of protection

techglass is tempered glass, techskin is there normal plastic

My only gripe about these cases is that they have terrible button feedback/pressing.
Only my power button is tough but seems to be getting better with usage
