Battery life is great!!! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note5

Battery life has been awesome! Moderate to heavy use intermittently since last night. Couldn't be more pleased. This is just an unscientific representation of what I'm seeing. I know there are better battery stat apps. If you comment on this, comment with how your battery life has been with other apps etc.

Battery life is amazing. That's pretty much the #1 reason I got this phone. Coming from a Galaxy S6 Edge I'm very satisfied with the phone as a whole but specially battery life

what was screen on time OP???

4 hours 13 min

Here are my stats so far. I still have a bit to go but so far I'm happy. It's quite a bit better than the S6 I had but the darn cell standby is still at the top.

Here is my battery yesterday. I think I could have gotten almost 6 hrs SOT! Loving the battery life on the Note 5.

14 hrs, 6 hrs screen on time, 5% left
I was using it pretty hard for about 4 hours today. This is amazing battery life. I know it'll go down when I get out in the sun, but still.

Today. Pretty good but I was home all day with light use. We will see how it goes tomorrow at work.

Just chiming in that I too have had great battery life. I use mine at work all day long for taking notes from phone calls, and I play games in between calls, and I always have anywhere from 30-50% battery left when I leave work. I previously had a Note 2 and would be lucky to have 20% battery after work, and I had to try to use it sparingly in order to get that, no gaming or anything.

Do you have advanced calling on or off? Verizon seems to have it disabled by default. Once I enabled it and rebooted on my 5, cell standby dropped from 26% to 2% overnight. Battery life is much improved since.

Mine is on but I rarely use data because WiFi is available to me most of the time. Maybe data being off has something to do with it.

I believe Mobile data is vastly more battery intensive than wifi.
Weekends at home on wifi yield double the battery

I think it depends on signal. If you have poor Wi-Fi signal it might be same as bad 4g make sense?

True

Ok guys, so advanced calling should be ON?
I'm getting good battery, but my cell standby still is higher than my sot, however, I'm on track for 6 hrs sot.
Should I be worried that cell standby is a problem or should I be chill knowing that things are optimized to the point I'm getting less draw from the screen being on?

I wouldn't sweat it mine is at top too and I'm getting about the same SOT. As for advanced calling I haven't noticed much of a difference either way. Do you use data much? I ask because I'm wondering if having data off most of the time like me drives the cell standby up.

Data is always on.

Update: with advanced calling turned ON I have completely eliminated cell standby from the list.
This thing is doing pretty decent now. I'm getting a little over 30 min/10% battery outside in sunlight on data. If I ran it all the easy down I'm on track 5 hrs sot

Horrible battery life Verizon model

After 7 hours, I'm at 14%. Screen was on for 2 hours and I haven't been doing anything intensive (3d games or movies etc) just some web browsing. On automatic brightness. Are other people getting battery life this bad?
what about gps, nfc, app update intervals, there can be a lot going on in the background.

Wifi is on, Bluetooth, NFC, and gps are off.
to be fair, my gf's verizon GS3 is ridiculously efficient. granted she was on wifi most of the day and doesn't use internet as much, but she was at 53% with 13 hours and 2 hours 14 min of screen time.
my att on the other hand, wifi off and on LTE, was at 53% with 6 hours and 2 hours of screen time.

How is the LTE signal in your area, if its not strong and swapping back and forth from 3g to LTE all day it can take a huge toll on your battery.
Try it without wifi and 4g. ONLY use 3g. I have a theory...

Mine seems to be doing great. The signal isn't that great in my house either. This is more real time use as I was asleep for a while. But when I woke up at 10am this morning it was at 92. I've been using it moderately ever since. I get about 8 hours with ridiculous use(4+hr screen on time).
Never on wifi.
Edit: I realize its kind of a bad example since it was in standby more than awake. But I'm getting great battery.

I had the same problem as you did. What made a significant change for me was changing amount of apps to keep running at 4 instead of default. Also I found the xda app runs in the background, continues to drain the battery. I have to manually kill the xda app every time I exit it. For today I'm at 12 hour running, and screen on 1.5hrs and 59 percent battery life.

I've been getting worse battery on wifi than 4g for some reason. I also noticed my idle power usage is around 115mA, where on my thunderbolt it was around 20mA

I have the Verizon model of the S3 as well. I have had it for over a week now because I was an early pre-order so I got it really early. For the first few days I was getting really bad battery life. I would maybe only get 8 - 9 hours with moderate usage, that being about 2 hours of screen time. I would play no games, and just browse the web and text. I am a big texter though, but on my DINC as long as I had mobile data switched off I could get plenty of life out of my phone. With this phone for some reason after about 70 percent, mine will start to drain much faster regardless of what I am using it for, even if the screen is is off. Just to test it I left all the radios on while the phone was at 100 percent over night, and the next morning it was at 96. The next day I tried the same test when my phone was at 50 percent battery, and when I woke up it was at 10 . I don't really understand what is going on here either. I keep seeing all of the reviews for the device even the Verizon version to point towards great battery life, but I am just not seeing it. Maybe rooting and a re-flashing the stock rom plus removing bloatware will help. I also got another battery just to see if that was the problem, but it doesn't seem to be. I'm hoping this is just a software issue, because I don't know why some can get such great battery and some can't. I would also hate to have to get a replacement phone.
im getting around 10 hours with Heavy use ... 6 hours of pandora, youtube, email, facebook, twitter, web
On day 6 with the phone

Need a good answer on my battery:

I've been debating on whether or not to go get my Galaxy S III replaced at Best Buy because of the sub-par battery life I've been getting. On average I get about 10 hours of battery life even with low usage. I keep autosync/bluetooth/gps turned off, and have screen brightness set to auto. At any given time of the day (I work from home) I have anywhere from 0 bars to 3 bars (crappy signal at my house). I'm thinking that my cell radio is what's draining the battery mostly due to low signal strength. I was wondering what you guys thought.
Also I did run CPU Spy for a few days and my phone was going into deep sleep when I wasn't using the phone.
How much screen time are you getting? I have some screenshots of nearly the same amount of time on battery as yours. I had 4 hours 20 min of screen time which I think is great!

I would start with option 1.
Option 1: If the phone works well besides battery life then see if they can just exchange the battery at Best Buy.
Option 2: Exchange it for a different phone through Best Buy if your under the 14 day period.
Option 3: Buy a good cheap battery off ebay, either an Anker or Hyperion battery. They both work well and I have used both. No NFC chip though.
Option 4: Buy a new samsung battery.

Only two hours, light - moderate use... I would say try and get a new battery. Factory reset could help but from the screen shots looks like it's sleeping fine. I would go with ^ that guys ^ ideas.
Btw I also have poor signal were I'm at for the summer, so I wouldn't think the radio is to blame.

My girlfriend and I both have noticed the battery life gets WAY better after using the phone for about a week or less. I think it has to do with the battery cache and the phone calibrating itself. DONT wipe the battery cache like most people recommend, itll just restart the whole process.

I am running on roughly 7 hours at 78% of battery left. Been using the Internet a lot (Facebook, some Drop Box upload/download) and the Wifi is on all the time when the tab is not locked/standby. I played a little bit of a basic game as well (Free Flow), so it isn't graphically intense. I am by no means the most experienced here, but in my opinion, that sounds like some decent, if not very good, battery usage..

I used mine on Friday for 10hrs,tons of browsing,I turned the screen on and off many, many times, video calls for roughly 10mins,music,games for 45mins and at the end of all this I still had a 42% left.
The device is the P3100 wifi+3g it is rooted; I was only using wifi,so no 3G at all, I also had the tab on airplane mode with wifi constantly running,so no 911 calls.
I am running the latest stock rom,it is rooted and bloatware free,I also limit the background processes down to none,1 or 2 max.
So far I am very happy with my tab, although wifi is still spotty.
OP What are your settings?

Yes, my screen is usually on about 6 to 7 hrs. And my battery life is about 15 to 24 hours.
I wonder those said their battery can stay for more than 1 day, how long was their screen on?
My guess is although the battery can stay long time but the screen on is only about 6 to 7 hours.
If yours only 5 hours maybe the gsm signal was not good. Try to change to 2g only. Or change other provider.

good day.
No problem for me about battery on Tab p3100
I felt that having Sim card inside the 3100 drains the battery pretty fast. I was not using much of 3G/GPRS connection. So after removing the Sim, I found battery usage reduced drastically. Overnight, the battery used to drain by 7 to 8% in standby mode with Sim card inside.
I don't understand, how people can comfortable use tablet with screen brightness at 0% or even 20%... it's mystical to me..If you buying tablet, you want to get good screen quality, good battery life (even at 50-70% brightness), smooth performance and so on...I have 2 tablets, ipad 2 and Samsung 3110. I really love my samsung, but battery life totally suck on it, when you compared to ipad...
Not a good comparison, iPad has a bigger battery

4 hours sot on WiFi is prey terrible. There has to be something eating battery. Maybe some of their junk left running like the voice assistant or the front sensors. Maybe their stock kernel is woefully inefficient. That is pretty bad sot on WiFi. I hope you had a wake lock or something from an app or brightness at max
4 hours from the very first discharge is not in the least "terrible" one bit honestly, especially considering that it's a QHD. I can't manage to pull 4 hours sometimes from my HTC One M8 that doesn't have QHD, that's on a custom ROM and kernel, AND that has a significantly smaller screen than the Moto X Pure. And the battery is only 400 mAh less than what the Moto has.

I can get 4 hours sot on my one plus on lte easily. Heavy web browsing usage. Solely on WiFi it might be close to 8 hours but I'd say at least 6 minimum.
4 hours sot for WiFi, if accurate, is a huge issue and would probably cause me to cancel. I'll wait for more accurate readings and confirmation obviously but if true that is terrible. That would put LTE SOT at around 2.5 hours.
Could also be carrier related. Those CDMA radios could be sucking juice.
I average about 4hrs on my nexus 6 unplugged from 8:30am to 11pm at night. Everything is enabled. sync, google now, location, bluetooth, wifi. If I can do about the same or better with the moto x pure I'd be content.

Everyday is mixed usage for me but I'm on WiFi probably 11 to 12 hrs of that time. Drive home and lunch time is when I'm on mobile. Weekends I'm mostly away from work but its not too much different as T-Mobile is strong in Houston. I just came back from Seattle and signal there is bad so I was definitely hurting a bit more.
Words with friends Tapatalk fitbit chrome browsing texting and hangouts chat google plus and photos make up the majority of my app activity. I use a lot of the Google now voice activation features as well for texting.

Just going to start this by putting up these screen shots. After the first charge to%100. Watching Star Trek TNG on Amazon video. Listening through headphones, over WiFi. Sync on half the time.
Got the phone yesterday afternoon and am loving it!
Honorable mention:
Even after updates my G4 often had weird screen issues while typing. Especially while swyping. None here
Not the greatest battery I have seen android do. Given its lg and 3000 I will forgive it lol. With 1hr music 1.5hr Skype call and mild gaming. For some reason having an sd card again is making me download music and listen to them [emoji23]

Tell me about it. Add to that the extra battery promotion and that 200gb sd card and my forgiveness seems to grow a bit more! Lol
Not too shabby, though, methinks.
SideNote :
I wonder why it's so much smoother than the G4. I mean days ahead. That extra gig of ram make the difference? Who knows
I had gps running four 5 plus hours. Out in an area that had very little internet. Phone was trying to connect for several hours. And still got 5 hours screen on. This is doing almost a good a my note 2 with the mugen extended battery. Not quite. But close enough

Damn, whats your setting? Did you charge in between? o.o
Awesome so far... My G3 is not there and it's tempermental. I would hope that one battery is enough to last a whole day, but with the promotion AT&T is doing, it won't be long until the second battery is in my hands and it won't matter at all. I do love that! So far the shots look great, and as most people get their devices settled in it will really show it's true colors... For the second day that's pretty good in my book. SoT over 4 is aces these days with all these screens coming in at over 5...
On second charge.

The promotion is what made me not care. $175 worth of kit?! Yes please! But now having it and getting over 4 hours SOT, I'm very satisfied. Also, you hit the nail on the head. TWO screens, six inches of it, and over 4 HOURS SOT.... I'll take it!
If you look at the notes five forums you will see that to begin with everyone was complaining about battery life, however after short time everybody calmed down after the battery settled down. Has been the same with every device I have ever owned. Battery life takes a few days to reach efficiency.

Only seeing really is screen see to auto brightness . other than that I'm just using the phone. Nothing special.
I'm getting about 4 hours with Waze, screen at around 20-30 brightness, sync and data on. Standby time is awesome. On my first charge for example, I got 4 hours minimal use from 8%!! That was on wifi though and since it was first charge, it's not very objective info.
My phone is not going into deep sleep worth a damn. It almost seems like it is Bluetooth related (I leave BT on 24/7 - haven't had a problem in previous devices). Once I shut off BT, it seems to be sleeping, but I need to test it more. The phone isn't connected to anything. I just leave BT idling for when I get into my car basically... don't like having to turn it on/off, just like WiFi. Battery stats are showing that Android System is what is staying awake though, and not BT. Anyone else having a problem like this?
I get just ok battery life. Seems better than my G4(which I only had for 5 days. Still my Nexus 6 and old Note 5 seemed to be a lot better

This was because of a couple of updates that settled things down a bit...
