Root ever going to be available? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note5

I've been stuck on the note 4 for Verizon without full root after 10 months. Will this ever get root and unlocked bootloader?
Sent from my SM-N910V

Ummm... are you referring to your Note 4 or the new Note 5? People only just started receiving them yesterday (myself included), so it'll take time for any root/unlocking stuff to come about if it'll be possible.

Talking about the note 5. Just wondering if anyone heard of Verizon locking it down in a similar fashion.
Sent from my SM-N910V

Honestly, with Samsung and Verizon...just assume that root will never be available. It likely won't, but if it is..it's just a bonus.
Regardless, it's way too early to tell.

If root is important to you, DON'T BUY A PHONE UNTIL ROOT IS ALREADY AVAILABLE.
EVER.
These days root is not guaranteed. And in some cases even if you get 'root', you can't write to the system partition without an unlocked bootloader to change out the kernel, severely gimping what many want root for on the first place.

Very true. I purchased the Note 5 because I like the phone. Root would be nice but it won't break my heart if it doesn't come. The S6 had root but it didn't last long if you like to stay up to date on the software. Samsung and Verizon locked these phones up pretty tight where even just flashing the modem will cause you to have to flash the whole update and loose root. I'm not holding my breath for root.

Probably Yes in the future but not right away. So i decided to talk to a Samsung customer service representative to ask weather the bootloader would be unlocked on Verizon note 5. It took me 20 whole minutes just to find that out bumped into a such a stupid representative on the live chat

Exactly! I guess someone was brave enough to ask... I'd give it about 6 months until root comes out. In the keantime, this phone is pretty awesome.

From what I read if rooted Knox 5 will lock the phone down...on Verizon and att only. Root looked to be done already on other carriers. Something in Knox 5 called "Root of trust"

I am ignorant on this, but if ALL the Knox software is disabled how could Knox be tripped? Anything related it Knox, I have disabled using Debloater. I am a Windows guy, and when a service is disabled it is not running but the software is still present. Wouldn't it be the same on android and Verizon/Samsung bastardization of android? Baby steps I know, but wouldn't that also leave the possibility of Root more likely then knowing Knox wont screw the phone?

The last time I used root was on the s3 and that was about it. Note 5 not needed. Even the bloatware doesnt bother me. Disabled/uninstall most of them. Phone is smooth as butter, for now at least.

I got mine 1 week ago, very happy with it, not a single complain, everything as good ss expected, nice screen, good sound, long lasting battery, quick and nimble responses, as a bonus, the screen is very grease resistant, my former phone was a S3, I had to clean it several times a day, the note 3 barely shows any fingerprint, Im very happy with this phone
All is well and good until Samsung's new annoying security features start haunting you! Lol! Note 3 is Awesome, But sadly, it could be my Last Samsung Phone....

Samsung KNOX - http://blog.clove.co.uk/2013/10/22/samsung-knox/
Basically if you trigger KNOX by flashing custom ROM's or rooting via a certain way you Void your warranty.
Plus it suffers from REGION LOCK which means you cannot use outside of the region you buy it in unless it has been deactivated, or bypassed. (Note: some don't have region lock on them)

It's just a secure container, mainly designed for business use and IT Managers and such. It can put data on a secure part of the phone also which no one can access except you. If you are rooted, your KNOX becomes void, therefore secure container can no longer be guaranteed secure.
I did not recive mine N9005 yet, so I dont know which rom on it
but I read that flashing or rooting will void the warranty, with my old note 1 flashing the stock rom will return device to official state, is it the same with note 3?
congrats on ur note 3! have fun! make sure u explore and find just how useful and awesome the s pen and the features made for it are!

I think all root discussion is going on in the Note 4 Developers ONLY section...it is probably fair to assume any root method found for the Note 4 and S5 would work for the S6. But still no major progress. As in the past a root method will probably come out of nowhere from a developer that rarely posts.

Time to switch from Verizon or AT&T then if you must stay with a Samsung phone. They got a pretty good lock on their security software so far.

I know, but T-Mobile's coverage sucks compared to Verizon....ugh. I would switch to them in a second if it was better. I have Verizon for my business and switching to T-Mobile could save me about $3000 a year over Verizon.

Then perhaps trying a less secure Verizon phone if you do not have T-Mo coverage, like HTC. I think the M9 still cannot be rooted or S-OFF but the M8 can.

This is correct. Verizon s6 will be much like the Note 4, it will never see root. Sad, but true.
And still no word on a developer edition :/
We may be hoping for another futex/towelroot type of kernel level exploit that can leverage root for multiple devices. They don't come along every day but they do come along on occasion. I'd be surprised if there's a targeted root exploit for Samsung devices but I'd be thrilled to be wrong on that.
As for the bootloader...I'll be planning on never. Somebody (or a team of somebody's) might get it, but I won't blame them when they sell it for far more coin than they'll make from some partially paid bounties.
The Note 4 and S6 have different SoCs so its not the same at all. Besides these differences, alas there will be no bootloader unlock.
my 2 cents
On a general basis, i think the galaxy s devices are a little more popular than the note series, and the s6 is proving to be more popular than the s5. So hopefully with a larger following will come increased chances of root....hopefully
I will say this though, the S6 has been the first device I've owned that i didn't want to root right out of the box. Root at this point would just be nice to have for a little more control over the device.
Verizon root
I would pay 500 bucks to a dev that could root this phone, to bad I dont know any personally.:crying:

Is a root method without tripping knox feisable?

I know i may get some slack for this post but is it realistically possible that someone could find a root method that doesnt trip knox. My last device was a note 3 so i havent followed whether the s5, note 4 or s6 have acheived this. I like the idea of samsung pay (even though im in the beta and it doesnt work with my car) and im hoping it works with my card once the app is public. I cant live with a phone that cant run a custom rom but if i at least have root i feel like i could manage. So am i just being stupid and say screw samsung pay or is their a real possiblity that someone could find root without the knox trip.

It only works for Bank of America or US Bank cards now I believe although there is support for Amex, Visa and Mastercard. They will probably be up and running once Samsung Pay is officially launched on the 28th. I can tell you this. Samsung Pay is a battery hog. It runs all the time unlike Google Wallet that you open when you need it. And the way you unlock your phone is tied into Samsung Pay. For example, if you select fingerprint scanner for Samsung Pay it automatically becomes the lockscreen default to unlock the phone. So if you want a pattern to unlock your phone you have to change it in Samsung Pay to unlock the device. You can't have both. Well at least when I tried you couldn't. LoL
I dont think enough devs have a note 5, i would guess something may come out of another phone maybe and translate over. I'm in the same boat, my n3 was rooted right away once I was convinced sprint wasnt going to deny a warranty claim over knox. I'm kinda holding out for s pay, but if it sounds like a bunch of brain damage....
Actually just thought of something, I use drive through and eat at bars and restaurants a lot, not keen on handing my phone to someone, probably gonna pass on s pay...

I would assume someone would be talking about it by now....but, it seems development is kinda slow (absolutely no disrespect intended) or the possiblity is people who want root are not concerned about knox so there hasnt been alot of interest. From what i can tell though is kingroot was for earlier devices and doesnt even work on an updated note 4 let alone a 5. Someone tell me im wrong. why not just trip the knox and use google pay or other services out there? for me rooting and being able to customize and overclock is the priority than samsung pay..ill just use google pay instead

I used Samsung Pay for the first time today at a CVS and it worked like a charm. The MST transmission was quickly recognized by the self-checkout machine and it was faster than me taking out the card, swiping it, and putting it back in my pocket.
The most amusing part of my experience was the surprise and delight from the cashier. He was like, "Hey, my iPhone didn't work. How come yours did? What phone do you have?"
My answer: "Only on the Samsung Galaxy." ?

I have 4 credit cards and Samsung Pay didn't accept any of them, Android Pay took 1. No longer concerned about tripping Knox for SP and no way am I turning on screen lock for AP that took a card I almost never use.
I used Samsung Pay successully at Costco and H-Mart, a Korean supermarket chain. The cashier at H-Mart, when she saw me draw the phone toward the old swipe reader, said phone payments don't work. Then she was all smiles in amazement after the transaction went through. I love it!

So far, Samsung Pay has been a lot of fun using, mostly due to the cashiers' funny and surprised reactions. I've so far used it successfully at Walmart, Target, Smart & Final, H-Mart, Costco, CVS, and Autozone. Only place it failed was TJ Maxx. I don't know why b/c they used the same Verifone terminal as Smart & Final.

Needless to say, the folks that work in the sprint store are Morons! I unrooted my phone and removed all root related apps from my phone. I told them that i had been on the phone with customer service and they had me do every test known to man with no luck, including a factory reset. I also told them that I called samsung and they couldnt figure it out either.. After tinking with it for a minute the sprint guy was stumped... I told him that I googled to see if I could find a solution but all I found was that Samsung Pay would not work if modifications were made to the phone... I played extremely stupid and said im not exactly sure what all that means, but the only thing ive done to my phone is add my apps, change the wall paper, and do all the tinkering that customer service had me do...
Well with all of that they asked if they could put in a work ticket and mess with it for a while... I told them sure. When I came back for my phone they had NO clue why and they said it must be a software issue and swapped out the phone...

S7 and S7 Edge Root

How soon do you think it could take someone or anyone to gain root on the S7 or S7Edge? I'm in no hurry but down the road say a month or 2 after the release if there is a root I would like to try. I have a Note 4 and after I root I lost Knox. I wonder if that will happen this time around.

I would just like root to remove some of the bloat. I have heard that they didn't mess with the OS as much as they have in the past. I would like to be able to use Samsung/android pay, also be nice if someone could enable the adaptable storage of Marshmallow, can't believe they disabled that.

I guess the same applies for the GS7.

It does. Make no mistake, root on the S7 = tripping Knox. Personally, this doesn't bother me, but if people are buying this phone hoping they can have root and maintain the Knox flag, especially those in territories that support Samsung Pay, they will be disappointed.
root would be great, unfortunately I bought the Verizon version knowing I'll never get root, like my poor note 4 here who all i can do is use a debloater script ?

Was the s6 rooted without tripping knox?
To begin with it was. But then Samsung published an update and closed the exploit that allowed it.
I just want root and don't care about tripping Knox because in Britain and the rest of the E.U it's illegal for them to cancel the warranty just for rooting.
The annoying thing is getting root normally requires a phone wipe. Until Android catches up and all apps are backed up, this is a huge pain

Only if the bootloader is locked. It's the unlocking of the bootloader, which is required to root the phone, which wipes the phone, not the rooting process itself.
In the UK Samsung phones never come with a locked bootloader (to my knowledge anyway, at least none of mine have) so rooting never involves wiping the phone thankfully.

Does the TMOUS one come locked or unlocked?
Almost certainly locked.
T-Mobile phones come with an unlocked bootloader.
