Scratches on heart monitor/led flash - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. Today i have noticed some scratches on heart sensor/led flash glass.
I have my S6 on case and i have remove the plastic protector.
Is that normal?

Yip same here only just took the cover off the flash using sticky tape after leaving it on for weeks, noticed right away the screen has couple of tiny pits & a couple scratches obviously not using gorilla glass on the LED flash & sensors.

I have tons of scratches on that lens on note 5..sucks..

yeah those guys have cheapest plastic on the planet, they will scratch to hell even if you dont touch it. well, mine too, i guess, everyones. good job samsung xD
---------- Post added at 11:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:41 PM ----------
Yeah ofcourse, they could put little tiny piece of glass on it instead, but nahh, they better save another 0.5$ per device xD

When it comes to me buying a S7 at some point this year that little piece of protective covering will be staying on the flash & heart rate sensor, as they probably use cheap plastic again.
Funny thing is both my Alpha & S5 never had this scratch problem wonder if they used glass on those devices before changing over to plastic on the S6 ect to cut costs.

Yea if I would've known it was plastic, that little sticker would've stayed on my note 5,note 4 not 1 scratch after a year and a half, was able to confirm with someone who repairs them that it is a plastic lens.smh

Lol everyone saying that the newer phones are plastic while the S5/note 4 were glass. Sorry guys they're all plastic and get scratched to s***

Slickwraps provide a skin for the led and sensors!

If I don't use S Health, is there any use for the heartbeat sensor? Are there apps that use it for anything, like unlocking the phone?

[Q] Displex - scratch remover paste - YES/NO ?

I'd like to remove a scratch from Galaxy S display. Would you recommend this way to get rid of scratches ??
Never had any good luck with these liquids/pastes etc. I had quite a small scratch on my old phone and it never really helped. I suppose nothing would stop you buying it and giving it a go?
If you do report back.
I have had luck with Displex, but on a plastic display. The Galaxy S display is glass, and plastic polishes will not do a thing.
There are compounds to remove scratches from glass - they are very specialized (cesium oxide is one) and can usually found at mirror companies. That would be your best bet.
sgs plastics aren't meant to be polished, you could try car polish, but i doubt there's one soft enough! =/
Displex won't have te proper effect, maybe after hours of rubb'n it?

Well I've found where to buy this compound. It's also used in jewels to polish. its Cerium Oxide. There are many soultions how to remove scrathes from glass using polish disc and driller. But I dont know how tu use it on such small surface
I used cerium oxide on my Samsung Captivate (gorilla glass) and it worked like a charm.
I just had to mix the cerium oxide pwoder with water and apply it on the phone screen using a rag. After 45 minutes of polishing all the scratches (5 scratches 3-8 mm long)were gone.
Regards!
Doesn't this damage the touch screen sensors or anything? I know they're built into the glass aren't they? Or are they on the underneath side?
I've got a couple of scratches I'd like to get rid of, but I can live with them if doing this would damage the screen in anyway.
even with gorilla glass, the phone picks up scratches?
Must do !! i too have a scratch on mine, it is small and looks like a hair strand but its very annoying...
But i invested in some screen protectors they were only £2.50 delivered but they do a good job and has covered up the scratch so i cant notice it anymore.
If you don't like scratchs invest in a protector.
Toothpaste works too!
http://www.ehow.com/how_5113910_use-toothpaste-remove-scratches.html
I have tried it before, but it works better on plastic than glass. I guess glass is just too hard for the toothpaste to have noticeable effect. But might as well give it a try. At the worst it just won't make any difference at all.
don't waste your money on Displex it doesn't work on the Gorilla Glass, I've tried and failed.. Jewellers polish is the best solution.
Sorry for bumping an old thread.. But ill try to erase some scracthes from my s2 gorilla glass today with cerium oxide, the manual way.. I hope it will get out after 1 hour or less
Let us know if it worked!
No results doing it manual.. I guess i need to use a tool. =[

Well better late than never. I've been in this game since the 1980's..yikes and I can tell you without a doubt that the best glass and plastic scratch remover/polisher is Tin Oxide!! Get yourself some Tin Oxide from a pottery supplier. The best method is to mix some with a tiny amount of water to a toothpaste consistency and using a "Slightly Damp Soft CLEAN Cotton Cloth" or similar, rub in small circles. It might take a few goes but it will remove scratches in almost anything including glass, ABS, cellphones, sunglasses, baby monitors, jems and rock such as greenstone etc. It's also really good to cut and polish cars or any paint including urethane and lacquer etc as it wont pill into little balls as it cuts and stays on the cutting wheel, such as a woolen buffer, not flying off. Its also good to remove oxidized ABS (ie the white opaque look) from car headlight covers etc. It's really CHEAP and goes a long way. Remember its an oxide so probably best not to use it on things that could rust.

Scratch repair, screen and housing Inspire 4G

I have done some research and searching to remove scratches.
For screens there are several types, capacitive which are newer and resistive which is older. They also now have different materials glass, plastic and some have layers.
For housings they are typically plastic, but the Inspire 4G has a metal or maybe aluminum housing. I purchased a Novus plastic polish kit which is a 3 part system but in the title it says plastic. I may try it on the metal housing.
Have you all gotten rid of scratches using products? I have also come across IDrops
You can always sand and polish the aluminum back. i did this since im waiting for my new glass to get here. oh the blue squiggle in the center is something wrong with the camera on my other phone
Will it keep its color if you sand/polish it?
I did the same thing with my hd2 about 6 months ago and its holding up just fine. might have to polish it again but thats the easy part. i probably wouldnt have done it to my inspire but i got it used and it was pretty beat up with some deep scratches. so i figured i'd give it a shot since i was pretty happy with the way it turned out on my hd2.
Im seriously thinking about doing this! Any advice? It would be appreciated!

No... If you sand it, the paint comes off.
the best advise i can give is to take your time. it can be a pain in the ass at times. i had some 600 grit sandpaper laying around and a scratch repair kit for my car. i believe its called QUIXX scratch repair. i used the 3000 grit that came with the kit after the 600 grit and used the kit as directed after all that.
the polish back plate look nice
found this but i dont think the inspire has the same material however it may still help
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=871308
that s a pretty good guide. it might work but only on light scratches because it doesnt take much sanding to get to bare aluminum.
Where do you guys order the housing I need a new volume rocker. Also a guide on how to take it apart for some repairs to the glass glue. Any help fellas?
youtube has videos on how to get it apart and ebay has housing replacements. be careful when trying to get the glass and lcd out. i thought i would end up breaking it and i've had plenty of experience with taking phones apart.once u have it most of the way aprt u will wanna pull glass and the lcd out from the bottom first because the top corners are under the frame plastic.

Heart rate sensor easy to scratch?

Is anyone else's heart rate sensor all scratched up? I removed the plastic when I got the phone on the first day and after a few weeks its pretty scratched up for some reason.
Yeah, I noticed that as well on multiple S6s I looked at. In fact, some are already very scratched from the factory as soon as you take the protective film off (if you can get it off haha).
Same here, as soon as i removed the protective film of the HR ive immediatelly found a hidden scratch beneath it, what the heck man, its a 650€ phone i deserve pristine condition on such a high price point.

You use fingernails or some kind of adhesive tape when removed the protective film?

fingernails but ofc with care, the scratch is on the other side of the removal process so if it were my fingernails it would be on the right side rather than left side scratch.

Same here, yes. It's not Gorilla glass but only plastic so yeah, normal I'd say and it won't affect functionality in any way yet it's annoying.
It is indeed very annoying i cant believe they went cheap on us with such a stupid thing that could have made it a perfect phone... its stupid. I hope that the OIS is not there and rather part of the camera sensor ?

Liquid screen protector

lol i was reluctant to post this but our options are not looking good so far. Has anyone tried this? I wouldn't mind applying it often if needed but i always wondered if this works. I have seen what some think about it but im asking those that have actually tried it and have experience with it.
Search it if you don't know what im talking about

Honestly, they feel like straight tacky rubber. They also affect the clarity in my opinion.
Hum i havent had that problem. I used my s7 edge without a protector for a wk til the skinomi came in. Once instal, after a day or 2 didnt even know i had it on.
But to each there own, you know.
has anyone done a crash test for these??
I've never used a screen protector on my previous phones (Note 2 / Note 4) and have never had any issues with scratches. I always have my phone in my pocket, though I always place it with the screen facing my thigh to avoid any accidental damage to the screen from outside and I never place keys in the same pocket.
When inspecting my note 4 after 2 years of use I can only see a few very fine hairline surface scratches that are basically only visible under very close scrutiny, under specific light and with the screen tilted at a specific angle - so generally speaking, my note 4 screen is still flawless after 2 years of use.
Now the scratch resistance of GG5 glass in the now infamous video of note 7 does trouble me as does the lack of good screen protectors which cover the whole screen without having to deal with drawbacks such as rainbow effects, hollow clicking, loss of sensitivity, peeling of corners etc.
Therefore, I'm also considering the liquid solution from Kristall for my preordered Note 7 in hopes that it could help prevent scratching of the glass on the device. I couldn't care less about the improved shatter-resistance of the GG5, as I do have an insurance plan that would cover an accident, but so far I have yet to shatter a screen on any of my phones.
So I'm planning to use the Note 7 as is, without ugly covers or screenprotectors, but would using something like Kristall liquid screen protector be able to improve my chances of not scratching up the glass? Does anyone have any insight / personal experience / references to tests that show its effectiveness in regards to scratches? (Not in regards to shatter resistance)
I have always been curious about these. I would love to see a video demonstrating the effectiveness.

The Nexus 6 uses Gorilla Glass 3 though, which is even more scratch resistant than gorilla glass 4 (but more prone to shattering). I wish they would go back to using GG3 to be honest.
They should use Sapphire since we're paying so much for this damn phone

Something like applying the liquid solution to half of the screen of note 7 and then using the picks to scratch both sides would be awesome and would really show if this stuff has an effect?

Yes that would be the way to go TBH.
These treatments may prevent stuff from abrading the oleophobic coating but they aren't going to prevent scratches in the glass itself. Also if it truly is a persistent coating, it's going to change how your fingers slide across the screen. It could be for the better or for the worse. If it's the latter, I wonder how hard it would be to remove?

From what I've read online, the feeling was slightly different to naked glass, but not "bad different". Also the screen is supposedly gettimg a little more gloss /shine with this.
As I understand, the coating mostly covers/fills the microscopic pores on the surface of the glass, so I'm guessing that it'd still feel smooth?
As for removing the coating - no idea
I think I'm gonna try it out on my note 7 when I receive it (gotta wait till the 9th of September)...
I'll post back regarding my experience, but since I'm not gonna attempt to scratch up my new device on purpose, I probably won't be able to say anything regarding the effectiveness of the added scratch resistance as opposed to not using the solution...
I'd still love to see a proper test from JerryRigsEverything though!

GG5 is garbage.
I noticed today in direct sunlight that I have quite a few faint scratches. You can't see them when the screen is on and the scratches are only visible at certain angles.
But considering its only been a week and this phone costs as much as a laptop that's unacceptable.
Well from what i found, a note 7 screen replacement will cost $250(for the new screen itself) lol i would have ordered one and tried this liquid screen protector stuff but damn that lol
I did some Google-Fu and found this thread. Like others have said, what good is screen protection you can't remove if it gets messed up?
Staples employees rant about it.

This is just what i found on this particular one
No, liquid screen protector does not work. Have seen reviews in my local forums that scratches occur after.
Also, I've just made experiment by putting on car coating material (aquartz t-cera) on my tablet's screen,
3 layers with a day of curing for each layer, 2x application per layer .. and after days of curing,
tried rubbing small piece of sand/dry cement to the screen glass (non gorilla),, and tadaaa, scratches !
so, No ... liquid stuff doesn't work for me.

Display slightly raised above bezel

I just received a new Oneplus 6 and the device is very impressive. I do have a concern about the display. It is not flush with the bezel. If I run my finger from any edge toward the center of the display I can feel that the screen is slightly raised above the bezel.
It is concerning because I once had an HTC phone that was like this and the display eventually started separating from the chassis.
Given this is the only Oneplus 6 I've ever laid my hands on I don't know if this is normal. Could any Oneplus 6 owners please speak to this?
Thank you, ~metafizik
Bumping as I have not had a reply. My question is very simple.
I am asking any owner of a Oneplus 6 if they can feel the 90 degree edge of the screen if they run their finger across any edge of the device toward the center.
Is the screen on your device raised about 1mm above the bezel?
I am concerned I may have a new defective device. However what I observe on mine may be by design and perfectly normal. If it is not I obviously need to send it back.
Thank you, ~metafizik
The screen is not perfectly flat, it has some curves on the edges and as you can see there is a little plastic layer between the screen and the cassis to absorb the shocks, but can you take a picture or a video?
I finally realized what I was feeling is the factory installed screen protector on the OP6. At this point it is the only gripe I have with this phone. I used my last phone which had gorilla glass 3 everyday for 4+ years and it didn't have a scratch on the display. It got hit with keys, eye glasses, RSA tokens and other hard objects everyday. I already have a light scratch on this screen protector on the bottom right. I presume it's from my finger nail from flicking my finger up from the bottom doing a back gesture. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure my fingernail wouldn't scratch gorilla glass 4. I'm kinda paranoid about trying to remove it though as I would feel like a bigger idiot than I already am if I removed it and then scratched the screen.
I removed the plastic protector after a month or two and am glad I did. Clarity of the screen is much better without, same with touch responsiveness. I do have a couple of minor scratches that are comparable to what I got with previous gorilla glass protected phones. It is what it is, no difference to any other premium phone out there.
If scratches worry you, I would recommend a glass based adhesive screen protector. Since the display is raised from the bezel, you may feel the edge as you did with this factory plastic, more so if you're not using a case.

And your observation is correct, that plastic screen protector is super soft and will easily be scratched by a finger nail. On mine light scratches would disappear after a while, very deep scratches did not.
Rest assured that the screen is not that soft.

Personally removed it straight away. I've seen stated in multiple places that it's meant to protect the screen while shipping, it's not meant to be left on the phone afterwards, that's why it's so bad
Thank you both for the info. I tried a screen protector for about 1 day many years ago on my first Android phone & have no desire to use one now.
Does it peel off easily? I presume it's going to leave some glue behind I'll have to clean off the screen. I definitely don't like it & want to remove it.
