Verizon note 5 people... I got into development menu and noticed that allow OEM unlock was a valid toggle option. Did Verizon forget to lock my bootloader? Does anyone else see this toggle in their development menu?? It wasn't there on my Verizon GS6. What do you guys think? I haven't tried OEM unlocking in adb.

No it's a security feature. You still need an unlock code which Verizon won't give you

The Verizon Galaxy S6 5.1.1 update didn't show this option. So why show it on the note 5?

lets see a bootloader screen. i bet its still gonna stay locked lol that is a lollipop feature that you must have clicked before you unlock the bootloader

All that menu does is allow you to unlock the bootloader. That box has to be checked before the bootloader unlock command will work. It doesn't mean that it will unlock the bootloader or that it will ever happen on the Verizon model. It's just an extra step in the unlock process.

carrier locked phone

My moto G 3rd generation is currently locked by my carrier. Have 3 more months until they will give me the unlock code. My question is, if I root and install custom rom, does that have anything to do with the carrier network locking? Will installing a Custom rom do away with the lock allowing me to change carrier's. Should I just wait until the phone has been carrier unlocked. Thanks!

Thanks. BTW I have received my unlock bootloader code from moto. In their instructions to unlock with the code, it doesn't mention having to go into developer mode and check off allow oem unlock. I read other forum post saying you have to do this.
Looking for advice. What is this option for?
Thanks!

You do have to do this... I do not know why it isn't in the instructions anywhere, it should be.

Nougat OEM Unlock

I received the 7.0 update yesterday (NRD90M.N920VVRUC3QB9).
I'm Developer Options, I can turn on OEM Unlock, which says "Allow Phone to be OEM Unlocked."
Any chance this means anything as far as root or unlock?
*Giving my hopes up.*
It was there before the update.

Everyone wants to think it will do like it does in stock Android where you enable that and then fastboot oem unlock to unlock the bootloader

On Verizon that doesn't unlock the bootloader all it does is prevent the FRP problems when you do a factory reset.. If you factory reset with oem unlock off then you'll need the original Google account to get the phone running again after factory resetting but with oem unlock on you don't need the original Google account it's basically for security against theft and what @tylerlawhon said is also true.

Samsung galaxy j3 prime sm-j327t1

Does anyone have any development on this device? It's newer and running a droid 7.0 nougat. Any root info or bootloader unlock info would be greatly appreciated
I too am looking, upgraded from the smj320a, gotta day love the phone just needs root do I can retire my older one.
Side note, I noticed oem unlock is missing. Haven't been able to find a reason or answer.
Yeah I seen that too. I was thinking about trying the custom recovery twrp for the galaxy emerge which has the same board and specs as the j3 prime except it's running marshmallow. If I flash it that might work but then it will trip the frp lock and the phone will be soft bricked. It's hopeless with a locked bootloader
Well, frp bypass is kind of my new found hobby. Have locked 10 devices and bypassed them all, one was a new found bypass on the lg tribute 5 running that 5.1.1. So if you frp I can help. Can we tag people in these like that crap spy social network site? Aka FB. Because I do know someone who could possibly help.
I too would also like to root this phone. T-Mobile variant.
How do we go about getting the sm-j327t1 it's own set of development threads?

At the same time it says it's not allowed check pictures
Also found this,

Verified boot. Maybe a root that takes affect after boot. Like a temp boot, an on and off switch type root.

I don't own this device, but according to what I can gather, it seems that FRP can be OEM unlocked, but the property is not set hence the property set to 0 for sys.oem_unlock_allowed.
For why it doesn't appear in dev settings I think is another issue. Can anyone confirm that this device does NOT have a manufactuerer locked bootloader.
Just to clarify:
OEM unlock = disable Googles FRP lock not unlock the bootloader.
If this device has a manufacturer locked bootloader then the likelyhood of root for this device is minimal.

How can I check it?
Also while roaming through a shortcut creator I noticed frp is an option in many of the secret menu settings, what ever happened to temp root?

The easiest way would be to simply remove the signature from the stock recovery image and then see if it flashes with odin. If it does the bootloader isn't locked. If it fails then it's highly likely to be locked.

That sounds promising
Yes I didn't set a screen lock as from what I've learned that's what activates frp, unfortunately my laptop has crashed (anyone good at bios pm me) but still no oem unlock and adb isn't working now, pc at work I've got android studios downloaded but I'll refrain from the lock until I can check, still don't know how to pull a signature from a stock image tho... But also in that article it States that oem unlock was enabled even tho there was no setting but they had unlocked boot loaders

I just won a Google Pixel. Now what?

Hi everyone. I just won a Google Pixel. The contest was on a tech site and prize was provided by verizon. The phone package doesn't show verizon on it at all. Is there a way to tell if it is verzion locked? Also what does it mean if it is? Will I not get the updates when they go out? I am currently with T-Mobile and my phone before is a Nexus 6P. I haven't rooted or flashed a phone in years. Doesn't mean I'm not willing. Just thought I'd post and see if I could get some advice on what to do next with my Google Pixel. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
When you get the phone, reboot it to bootloader mode and use fastboot from your pc (obviously connect phone to computer first) and run the command: fastboot oem unlock
If it unlocks then you're money. If not, it's prolly Verizon and if that's the case try to figure out what software is on the phone (pray that it's an old phone somehow) before they fixed the bootloader workaround.

It won't unlock that way no matter what version if he doesn't hit the slider first.
OP:
You will get updates from google if it does not have a Verizon sim in it. If it does they come from Verizon. The Verizon version of the software has some tweeks for their network, nothing more.
To find out if it is unlockable hit the developer options and find 'oem unlock' if you can slide it to allow oem unlock it is a Google version. That will not unlock it, that will allow you to then do what the poster above said...and that will unlock it.
You must have an internet connection to use the slider. That can be just with wifi if you want. It phones home to see if it is allowed to unlock. And that is the only difference between a VZ version and a Google version. It is in the data base to be unlockable or not.

I forgot about that in the developer settings. It's been a while since I did that. Good catch.

About phone...what version of N is it on? Dont let it update until you answer that. If it is lower than 7.1.1 you can unlock it still.

Yea, you can finish the unlock later after it updates. But be aware the next step in unlocking will wipe your phone. So you may want to get it over with.

Question How to unlock bootloader?

I just received my Flip3 (SM-F711U1) and would like to unlock my bootloader. However developer options is missing the OEM Unlock option. It's completely missing not just grayed out. I read a few articles about needed to change the system date but none of those guides changed anything. Can someone help?
Also, I attempted to call *#*#7378423*#*# to double checked that it wasn't already unlocked and I got a popup saying "Unabled to process the request."
Thank you.

- about phone
- software information
- build number 5 times
- profit
I have no issue unlocking developer options. As my first post said the OEM Unlock option is missing from dev options.

Have you tried through fastboot? (fastboot oem unlock)
Oh, got you. Sorry!
As far as I'm aware samsung devices don't support fastboot. I did attempt to connect it in case I was wrong but was not able to get fastboot to recognize the device.

You can try directly unlock without ticking the oem unlock. By boot into download mode. The other thing is your device or carrier or country wont allow your flip 3 to be unlock. There last step you can try is clean flash via odin with your latest firmware.

if you're in North America, Canada etc Qualcomm chips there do not support bootloader unlocking, at least the Samsung one's don't, not sure about other OEMs.

They used to, so there was always a possibility it returned.
I recently read this article on XDA about unlocking the boot loader on the Fold 3 which results in Samsung disabling the camera (WTH?), Is this a thing on the Flip3 too?
My device is rooted. I have always been able to find the OEM unlock option under developer options without any constraints.
My camera is NOT affected. I can still use it without any issues.
I have an European device (SM-F711B).
Hope this helps some of you to track down whether this is a location or carrier based problem.
Hey Redhatter,
