So I've had my iPhone 4 since release and I've been happy with it but itching for AT&T to get a decent android phone for me to try. I'm eligible for partial upgrade and because I'm on premiere I get an additional 10% off; which the Corp store agreed to honor; so total price was $269. Luckily they were busy when I got there and I had some time to play with it. Very solid phone. But I've been debating the whole front facing camera thing. I Skype regularly with my parents who are overseas and I FaceTime with my wife (more once our baby is born in April. SO the lack of a front facing camera was big. I've also heard horror stories of android and battery life; so when I found it it was only 1250mah I couldn't believe it. And after playing around with it I realized that the browser is not on the same level as the iphones. I watch a lot of videos on CNN and when I tried it using the flash Player on android it took a long time. On the iPhone the HTML 5 page pulls up and videos are near instantaneous. The browser just seemed a lot more fluid. I dunno I haven't made a final decision but wanted to see somebody doses perspective who went from iphone4 to inspire
I sold my iPhone for $ 500 and never looked back. I picked up the inspire this morning and after an hour of frustrating debacle with the radio Shack guy I got to playing with it.
I had owned an evo before but this blows it out of the water. If you can get by the fact that it doesn't have a front facing camera you will be pleased. The phone is super fast and the display is beautiful. I'm working on my first charge and the battery is lasting. I do not miss my iPhone at all.
I am sorry if my writing seems choppy but I'm currently playing with SwiftKey
Cool. Let me know In a few days after you've been using it for a while. The other very annoying thing (and this is the iPhones fault) is that the damn iPhone uses a micro sim. So i can't just switch back and forth between the two. I'll probably have to pick up a micro sim adapter that would allow it to be used sit regular sim slots
I sold my iphone and I am very happy with my phone. So nice not needing itunes and being able to use the storage in my phone. Its also nice being able to add ringtones and sounds so easily. IMHO the inspire screen is just as good.

I agree with everything he said.
@OP: That's what I hear too, also have seen, that the experience on iOS is just a little smoother than the Android experience, and I can understand where they are coming from.

I sold my i4 last night and bought my inspire today. My advice to you is get an ipod touch 4gen for your face time. That us my plan as I live apple for their audio. If Android made a device similar to the touch than I would still have my iPhone but that's not the case. Plus this phone is solid and not cheap like others. Doesn't feel like I've skipped a beat. Good luck. Also my speck case makes a difference because that's why I loved iPhone were the accessories.

switch to verizon and get the thunderbolt its has lte and a front facing camera
I just got rid of my iP4 for the Inspire and I'm not gonna miss it. I've had a ton of phones in the last year and this might be my favorite. The speaker is a little weak, but I'm used to that from HTC. Screen is brilliant and while it may not be the retina display I prefer the larger size.
I haven't had a chance to evaluate battery life yet of course, but I pretty much know what I'm getting there.
I charged mine fully and have been playing with it for a while now. The battery has gone down only a tad - in no way can you literally 'watch the battery drain'. I think this will only improve with root. And the screen seriously is just as impressive as the retina display. It's really tough to see pixels on this thing - everything is bright, sharp and clear.

Except best buy wants 299 on contract and 799 off
this will be my situation. i am brand new to this forum, so forgive me lol.
My first smartphone was the G1, loved it but decided to switch to iPhone 3g.
Sold that to by Nexus One. Loved it as well, but sold it to get the i4.
Now, i'm selling my i4 to get the inspire. So it's not my first Android, but I've become sorely accustomed to the "stupid" nature of iOS. Returning to android will take some getting used to.
I am trying this android thing out. Came from iphone 4 but still debating. I may return it because of battery issues and also music management sucks. Cant manage playlists. Also, bluetooth control does not work on the included player.

I won't be using this for music except for slacker and pandora, and will stick my iphone4 in the glovebox and listen to the ipod while in the car. Have a small ipod if I ever need to take one somewhere.

The only difference is that you can see the touchscreen grid on the inspire, but not on the iphone.
@rican
Not exactly sure what you are referring to regarding managing playlists but I use isyncr and it works perfectly for me. With the wifi addon you can sync them over your home network as well.
Thanks newter55, I will give isyncra try.
The main problem so far is battery life and bluetooth music controls. It will not let me pause, change tracks, etc. Any work around for this? I am a bit new to android and do like the inspire.
I use MixZing Basic for music, works perfectly with playlist.
I like this phone a lot. The only concern I have is call freezing. I had a G1 before, it freezes a lot when answering a call. It forced me to switch to IPhone 4. I hope this one doesn't have the freezing issue so I can sell my IPhone 4 on ebay, haha

Thats good; keep in mind though that you're using a new phone and the battery life will get worse the more apps you download, the more widgets you have, and as you add more screens and files to the phone.
You should definitely take advantage of rooting wnd trying to find a ROM that has undervolting and over/under clocking to get the most out of the battery.
I have used my stereo Bluetooth headset and I can pause and skip tracks. I'm using stock player.

After about a week of ownership, I've sold my Skyrocket and placed an order for the Galaxy Nexus. Below are the factors that contributed to my decision.
1. Screen. 800x480? I know that's the limitation of the display technology, but come on. After owning an Atrix for months, looking at SR's screen felt like my grandma using her big-button TV remote. The details weren't that crisp either and the bluish whites were annoying me to to end.
2. Notification LED. This was my first Android phone without LED and I thought I could live without it, but turns out I'm simply too addicted and reliant on it.
3. Ear and Loud Speakers. Both are sub-par for such a high end device. The ear speaker is way too deep to make out what others are saying, and the loudspeaker volume is too low and sounds pretty bad past half way.
I will certainly miss LTE, but at the end of the day, I neither stream much nor download loads on my phone. Plus, not much coverage where I live.
I realize the camera is sub-par on the GN, but I probably take about 10 pics a year on my mobile. Just as well, the 16GB storage without microSD doesn't bother me either as music is the only thing I save on my phone...and most of the time I don't even have to with Google Music. Movies? That's for my iPad2.
Good luck to all SR owners.

Too bad you didn't like the SR. I was considering it before too but mainly because of the lack of Dev Support. Its gotten better now. There are solutions to your issues but it doesn't matter, I'm sure the Sexy Nexxie will still be good. I'm waiting for the LTE version myself.
Good luck
How much did you get for the skyrocket???, and how much did u pay for the nexus???....
So you paid $700+ for a new phone because no led and "poor loudspeaker" lol..
Gook luck with that..
Bye
Also, why is it important to share with everyone? Do you share and layout the reasoning for your underwear and socks with the store clerks??
Who'll good luck with your next phone...I too needed a led notification...and found no led...and it works great...so far loving me first Sammy...and that is coming from a HTC fan

I have no problems whatsoever with the audio of the device. You may be a very discriminating listener, but I think that the sound output was just great and the calls are extremely clear.
The screen resolution is supposedly at a low end but I have to say that I do not perceive much of a problem, if any at all. Everything looks crisp and clear to me and the screen is a choice to use. I think that these super resolutions on these tiny devices are an overkill anyway. Nice to have, but irrelevant in everyday use.
LED lights? Does anybody care?
I just think that you wanted to get your hands on ICS a few months earlier!!!
Now, the Galaxy Nexus did not receive stellar reviews and what is available here has a 5 mpx camera vs the 8 mpx in the Skyrocket. I certainly do not know the camera resolution of the international version of the Nexus.

Okay so you still paid $300 for a phone with a better speaker and ICS and NO lte...

Seriously though.. would love to know where you sold a $150 phone for $560? I will sell mine tomorrow if that is true.

Thing is you can't please everybody... watch soon enough he will be crying about this and that on the Nexus board.. He will sell it for $1500 and buy something else for $2000 and be cool.
I've considered doing the same thing. I'm happy with everything on the SR except for the screen. If mine weren't suffering from a particularly bad case of the "brushed metal look" I'd probably be more satisfied, but it just bugs me every night when I use my phone in bed.
I've been jonesing for a galaxy nexus too, but with no SD, and only 16GB of storage, I don't think that would work for me. I use my phone for videos a lot and at 720p resolution, the file sizes are going to be that much larger... 16GB would fill up way to fast.

that will not help the lines.
I had a small screen (higher ppi) pentile screen (Galaxy U in Korea). when comparing it to a larger screen Galaxy S I can say you will not gain anything in terms of resolution. It won't be 1000x better. Because it is .15 inches wider, I would say it will be 1.04x better. A bit shy from 1000x.
So you traded for a AT&T LTE-less Galaxy Nexus? no LTE, microSDHC?
I would say it was a whopper of a bad decision. Hope you've verified in person that the speakers sound better because a lot of AT&T's voice call quality is dependent on the carrier.
I really don't see the "lines" anybody is talking about.. This screen is freaking clear as a bell... everybody who has seen this phone is amazed.. now Im running different launcher's.., etc.. and its beautiful!

Haha, thats just what I thought too when I got home and compared to my Atrix! Funny stuff... Anyway I've gotten around it using ADW and a lot of switch out icons. I'm happy with my SR, but do question whether the absence of qhd or higher will keep me awake at night as I'm just a week from fully committed to the device. All in all, SR is the best phone I've owned to date.

I hope you remember you'll lose USB mass storage on the Nexus. That's a must need utility for me. Always transferring files to and from work.
That alone, smaller capacity, the subpar camera, LTE, and losing my unlimited plan from at&t is definitely not worth a nexus. Not when I can wait a month and get ICS.
The way I see it- your shiny new piece is already subpar, but to each is own. Good luck
Though the LTE implementation is cleaner on the Nexus, you could've also installed noLED for the notification light. Works great for me.
Lol you meant led implementation right? The nexus has no LTE

I only see the "lines" on mine when the display is at a very low (less than 25%) brightness level.
Turning up the brightness a little makes the display look incredibly clear and colorful.
I've kept my eye on the G pro 2 for a while (was about to get the original O G pro, but waited for this to come out). So I'm well aware of the specs, features, reviews, etc. But what I want to know is a real world user's opinion of the device.
Is the phone pretty decent? Any frustrations or quirks to know before trying to get one?
Key questions:
*How is the Mic/voice quality? (sending and receiving during a voice call)
*How is the battery life(I know it depends on usage and habits of the user, but just overall, how would you rate it personally, compared to other current/comparable Android phones)?
*Is it relatively stable and responsive?
*What bothers you about this phone?
*Would you buy it again if you were in the market for a new phone right now?(tells me that you like the phone and are overall happy with it)
I plan on getting a F350(a bit confused with the S/L/etc. acronym endings, can any one shed light?) I want to use it on at&t's network. On paper, and seeing professional reviews, the G pro 2 seems like my phone (1080p 5.9" screen, expandable memory via microsdhc, user replaceable battery, decent camera, etc.) But I want to know, if in practice, the phone is stable/frustration free(relatively speaking), decent real world battery life (if it's competent/comparable at least.. ), hoping that this is not one of those, "you have to root it and install a custom rom in order for this phone to be bearable"- type thing.
My other considerable is the Sony Xperia Z2 (prices are right, even though the screen is smaller and the battery isn't "replaceable"). I didn't want the Samsung Galaxy series due to the smaller screens and bloatware they put on there(note's a great series, but simlar.. bloatware, plus really expensive).
Thanks! I appreciate any input!
these are my questions too..
I came from a Samsung S3 (running CM).
first impressions were: Nice clean looks and lines, it's big (but it's not unwieldy). my wife has a Note 3 and it's about the same. the curve along the back sides makes it more comfortable to hold. Obviously, it's a heavier phone due to size, so your hand might get tired if you're one to use your phone lying down or something.
Screen is fantastic. I have no problems with colour issues with the screen and it's bright enough for me, even outdoors.
Battery life is good. standby can last more than a day. in usage, i was a bit busy yesterday and didn't use it too much, but from 0700 to 2300, i had 63% before i plugged it in. on a more typical day, I'd probably have around 40%. mainly a mixture of whatsapp, a few blogs, games and some TV show watching at lunch.
Camera is decent and acceptable auto focus speed. not a lot of bloatware.
I'm running 10e firmware due to bugs in 10f and waiting for lollipop. 10e is stable. not had problems with it.
problems: it's not widely available and the user base is small. so don't expect any fancy mods/firmwares or anything like that. as such, there's not a lot of accessories for it either outside of LG's own stuff.
My friend has the Z2 (not looked, but isn't the Z3 pricing nearly the same now?), and his camera is better and the battery life is longer due to Sony's Stamina software. display is about the same. If you want a big, stock phone, the LG is great. if you want to play around and like to customise your phone, then i'd go with the Sony.
Thanks for your input Ray-Lee .
I'm on the fence between the two phones, I like the bigger screen on the G pro 2, I haven't held one yet in person, but I don't think I"ll be bothered by it at all. Only thing that really entices me for the Z2 are the current prices for it right now.. for relatively similar specs, smaller screen, but better camera compensates. Honestly, I want the device to work well out of the box.. this is xda and I do play with custom firmwares and roms, but that's more of a result than a mission for me these days.. as in, if the unit runs better/faster/more stable compared to stock(or.. if stock is so horrendous that it must be rooted and flashed to be "decent").

Ive been using this phone pretty much since it came out (D838 rooted stock) and the stock Performance is fantastic if im honest it really doesn't need a custom rom unless you want to "mod" alot of things and even then as long as your careful theres still alot you can do with just root, i love this phone so much and its modified enough for my liking without a rom, its fine right out of the box and if you can live without a custom rom (which is really doesnt need that much) i think you'll be as happy as i am with this phone on stock with or without root.
But yes if you do like to flash and mess about alot go with the z2/note3 as there is more options there but this is still a brillant phone.

Thanks a lot for the assurance. I'm still bouncing around phone options, I guess it just comes down to price (best bang for buck, with expandable memory at least). I'm still considering the G pro 2, but I saw how the GS note 3 has come down a lot in price.
Thanks again!

I've had both and granted you can mess around with roms and stuff but for pure joy in use i much prefer the g pro 2 its a really really good phone and for the low price you really cant beat it in my opinion unless this phone gets a good recovery and cm11 ill never bother with costom roms ect. I only can agree with that!
I did get mine last week and i am very happy with it! Came from Galaxy Note 2 wich i liked very much but i dont trust Super Amoled Display technology since noone grants you that it will operate more than 3 years with heavy use. I chose this device because it has similar dimensions as the Note 2, stronger hardware, bigger 1080p reliable IPS LCD screen and fabulous 3200 mAh battery.
It's a must have for phablet lovers that want to have a good performing phone with large screen.
After just a few days of use this is my opinion. On software side is everything ok, just the usual Kit Kat problem that bugs lots of users out here, tha lack of having permissions for apps to write to sd card. That was the only thing that bothered me, but thats on Google side. This phone is truly amazing!
Hope that helps the peple to choose the best device for their specific needs. I found mine definitely.
Thank you for the input bhun and derbyshire! I really like the phone and want to get it, but for me the G pro 2 shipped from Asia to the US (I need the F350 model for LTE compatibility), it's about $600, I'm going to wait out just a little longer, it's a bit out of my budget (was hoping to score a phone for less than $450.. Sony Z2 and ZU did fit that for me, but not anymore either, haha).
I'm glad to hear that it's a great phone though(G pro 2), hopefully the prices will come down a bit for the F350 model and I can obtain one soon. Thanks again to all who have contributed!

The things that bother me about this phone are the poor wifi signal, I can be within a meter of my router and it still fluctuates between 3 and 4 bars. Any less than 4 bars wifi signal seems to have a noticeable impact on browsing performance. I also find the mobile data hotspot a pain, every so often the connection would hang and you would have to turn data off and back on again to get it to work. It seemed to do that every hour or so. Also if the phone gets even minutely warm, the brightness level will restrict itself to between 80% and 90%. I have had 3 LG G Pro 2 and they have all been the same. I also notice some flickering at times, especially when there is a white background on a webpage. I am almost fed up of mine and looking at selling it soon. It does have the potential to be a good phone, and I think all the faults I mentioned could be fixed with a decent firmware update.
I agree with you on wifi reception, its been the worst amongst all the phones i have owned

Good Buy
It's a good buy switching. Switched from GS5 to this
Hi everyone,
It looks like after 3.5 years of service my S3 I9300 is about to kick the bucket. Seeing as this year's smarphones are a failure and last year (2014's) top dogs are still over 500usd I figured it would be a waste of money to buy either of them. After some googling I found the moto g 2015 to be a good option.
It meets the requirements I wanted: FM radio, good xda support, removable sd card, ??doable?? battery replacement. It's just too bad there's no blackberry style led notification like the s3. From the antutu benchmarks it looks like it has ~80% the power of my S3?
My question is, how good is the new moto g? Any nasty surprises, gotchas or buyer's remorse. I plan to put CM12.1 first day out of the box. Is the performance decent? I'd mostly use it for web browsing, youtube, google maps, and reading pdf comics. No intense 3D games as it looks like all mobile games are going towards the "pay to play 2mins" model or the "ads galore for 2 mins" model.
Is the new moto g a good choice? Of course I'd get the 2gb ram version.
Hello,
I really have no regrets with mine. I was pretty much looking for the same requirements that you mention. I find that it performs quite well, I actually do use mine for gaming. It handles some of the more graphically demanding games without issue (Dead Trigger 2, Modern Combat 5, etc). I know this is not what you plan to use it for, but just throwing it out there.
What did your i9300 score in the current version of Antutu? The MotoG3 scores around 24550 for me. I can provide screenshots of the score breakdown if it would be helpful for you to see how the different tests scored.
The only thing Motorola left out is a gyroscope and NFC support.
Is quite nice actually, however here in mexico motorola released a turbo version that is even nicer.
I must confess that i regret buying this after the one plus x announcement, but that's just my personal preference and i've yet to see reviews of how does it perform
The phone is really good for it's price, and finding decent phones under 5 inches these days is just a nightmare.
If you don't mind spending some extra money, i'll recomend you a z3 compact.
But it all comes down to personal needs and preferences. Moto gestures in this phone are something really awesome that i can't live without, some things that i find missing are the stereo speakers, the notificacion led and an amoled screen for better battery management.
Oh and battery life is actually really good.
Thank you for your suggestions.
I've never used the nfc once so I'm not going to miss it. I've uploaded my s3 antutu score just for curiosity. I'm overclocking it to 1.7GHz with a small undervolt. I know benchmark scores are only a rough guide for real world expectations and should be taken with a grain of salt.
The turbo edition looks great but Mexico is way too far for me to go and with it being a region special device, will it really have much xda support? I'll definetely miss the amoled display but at least it's ips lcd. Isn't that the best kind of lcd? I love the S3's vibrant colors. The z3 compact is 400usd which is almost double the 220usd. Considering I'm paying in cad that's gonna hurt.
Just not sure how good the z3 compact xda support is. It's not like I'm looking for a small phone. Actually I would prefer a big phone for reading comics on the go but I don't want to unload a lot of money for a phone right now for reasons in the first post.

All in all I like mine, I have no regrets for the investment... I have had several higher end smart phones like the LG G2 and Nexus 5, and really don't see any real-world difference in use even when gaming so I don't know how much I trust the Antutu scores, and the battery life is very good. The notification LED missing is annoying, at first, but like everything else you get used to it and the Moto Display is an acceptable replacement for it.
As far as a doable battery replacement, you might to watch a tear down video before you say that, replacing the battery in this years Moto G is a bit tougher than the older models. "doable" would vary on your technical expertise.
I was a flash-a-holic with my Nexus devices and my LG G2, but to be honest the G3 us the first phone I haven't even really had the urge to flash a custom ROM on, or even root, the stock ROM is very good... Pure Android with (literally) a few Moto apps that are actually usable and functional without getting in the way, and the stock ROM is very optimized to the hardware, CM and other ROM devs haven't been able to get near the same battery life as stock. If you are set on CM, I would suggest waiting a minimum of a week before even unlocking it, there are a handful of rare issues which could potentially pop up (yellow screen, low volume, ghost touches, etc) and sometimes don't show up for a few days. No point in ruining your warranty day one, especially when the stock ROM is so well done.
The screen on the G3 is better than most people give it credit for, it isn't as good as the LG G2, but it is easily better than the Nexus 5, which is weird, sort of.... I am actually quite impressed with the screen and how vibrant and bright it is with minimal battery draw.
My 2 cents are go for it, you won't be disappointed.
I did lookup a teardown. Didn't the battery replacement involve
hair dryer to the screen
unscrew the motherboard
hair dryer to the battery
While I've never attempted doing the hair dryer treatment it doesn't look that bad. Compared to some of the other teardowns I've seen on ifixit, this one didn't involve: gotcha placed cables that are guaranteed to break without the magic touch, insane amounts of glue, or a screen that's so delicate that getting it out is near impossible. Overly optimistic??
Honestly, I figured that when that time comes, after the old battery is removed, I can cut a hole where the battery fits in and just hold it in place with duct tape. That way next time I can just remove the duct tape and disconnect. That's assuming the phone lives that long. My 2011 tablet and my 2012 era phones are both dieing in the span of a few months. :crying: The tablet is retired because of that. I'd rather my devices not actually die so when I want to use them again for whatever reason they'll still turn on and work ok.
Thanks for the tip of waiting a week for issues to pop up. I guess I'll carry 2 phones for that week. The moto g will get its initiation as a comic book reader and fm radio. I like the little features of CM like circle battery, network speed indicator, quick settings rearranging. Root is also a must for me for adblocking, xposed xprivacy, xposed youtube adblock. Can't live without either of those 3.
Stock 1.4 GHz (1363 MHz)
Ordered this for my partner and have had it a few days now. Just wanted to say how pleased I am with the purchase, considering the price (£260 with 2 years warranty).
I was half expecting it to be kinda slow and clunky, but after installing all our apps, I am happy to say it is more than nippy for its price bracket. The camera is also better than expected, but I had low expectation. the screen is decent, nice and clear with nothing obviously low budget about it.
its not silky smooth, but I would imagine this would be the step up phone for folk coming from the moto G or moto E and compared to early gen versions of those, this is a real bump up.
am on about 2h20m screen on with 60% left, thats with some gps, 40 mins of phone calls and installing and checking more apps.
also, was worried about having no LED notification, but the move to display works well, in fact my partner prefers it as shes not someone who uses her phone constantly.
quick charging is very handy, NFC is a nice touch as I have shown her the uses. gets in the car, touches the tag, it turns on "speak out text messages" from the sony conect app (which works on non sony phones, just format the NFC to xperia tags in the many free apps), turns on bluetooth to connect to the BT car phone and turns up all the volumes to max. taps when home, turns off BT, turns off text read out and sets volumes back down a tad.
so, considering the price, this is a solid 9/10 phone.
good screen, good battery, acceptable speed, nice SD card, NFC, not back photo and video and all for a pretty decent price unlocked!

:good: same feeling as you. The price of the phone makes it unbeatable
First off let me start by saying i have a MXP and i love it so i'm not dissing it.
However The Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 has a better looking screen, much better audio and it has the same performance and they £80 cheaper making it an absolute bargain.
I bought the MXP because of the bigger battery and in the vein hope of better support but i do often wonder if an extra hour of SOT a day was worth the extra £80.
Much prefer both phones over my original Nexus 5.

that phone went completely under my radar! does seem very good for the price.
It's the exact same spec as far as i can gather.
The screen has shattered (18 inch to 2 foot fall in the house off a chair arm) on the wife's idol 3 though and it was only 6 weeks old but i am seeing people on here saying there screens have gone on easily on the MXP as well
Once MM is on both phones i would struggle to pick between them ill be honest
Well, mine's already shipped, so it's comforting to see some positive feedback for it.
The Alcatel seems reasonably comparable though it has a far less powerful main camera. Makes up for it in secondary camera though I guess and has a couple of bells and whistles that the play doesn't like Bluetooth 4.1, but no quick charging facility.
Still comfortable with my purchase thankfully.

Dont be fooled by the pixel count, the camera on the Idol 3 is very capable.

Errr... that's okay, I'm happy with my purchase. It's all good.
I must add that the Moto X Play has a superb build quality. I was hoping it would have a good one because my Moto X 2013 was great, too. My LG G3's build quality was a joke compared to this.
I got mine for £100 second hand and really like it, no major weakness in any department

I was about to post the very same, decided to read the previous posts and see this.
But somehow the Camera on my old LG G3 was brilliant, especially when it came to Macro Shots and moving objects in the background.

I must agree, the G3's camera was superior compared to the Play's.
I was expecting a lot worse of an experience.. I was really hesitant to buy the phone but now that I have it I like it a lotttt. Still going to get my Nexus 6P though
