Help me ENCRYPT! - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to figure out a way to encrypt my photos automatically (or at least, sync to encrypt automatically). I have Veracrypt on my PC, Dropbox on my PC and Android, and EDS app on my Android.
I've figured out how to move files around on EDS and have them sync to my Dropbox, but I want to make it so that EVERYTHING on my SD card is encrypted. If that doesn't work, then whenever I take pictures and videos, I'd like them to be automatically (via the EDS app or any other app) to be AUTOMATICALLY encrypted to my local container on my SD card (which is then synced to Dropbox!)
I hope this all makes sense. The whole point is ease-of-use. I could do it manually everytime I take a picture or video but that would take forever!
Thank you!

App to sync pictures/video to computer?

I take a lot of videos of my daughter, pictures also, and I wanted an easy way to sync my dcim/camera folder to a folder on my computer. I know I can plug the phone in and sync that way.
I already have a dropbox account and 1gb is used up with roms and such, any other alternative?
I use Titanium Media Sync to sync to my Dropbox. I take it you don't want to use up the remaining gig on your Db?
SugarSync always works very nicely with syncing and PC/Mac. And if I'm correct it may have about 2 GBs of storage as well.
P.S. Check the sig for a referral.
I didnt even know DB had a limit. Is it based on what are in the folders or overall uploads?

Photobucket works too. At least to the cloud. You'd have to pull it from there to the pc. If you're around the house you could always send them over wifi with shared folders if you don't want to plug in the phone.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I had the same need and first tried out Titanium Media Sync (on HTC Desire) but was annoyed to learn that you only have limited options for the sync (currently "continuous" and "single one way"). I needed the app to upload (and unload) photos and videos from the device to a network location, ultimately to free up space on the device. However, with the continous sync, any files deleted on the device will result in deletion on the network as well; which does not provide much of a backup.
I ended up with Syncness, which is exactly what I needed. You can configure it to sync only with specific networks, at specific hours of the day, only at A/C power, etc. (the latter is in all fairness also supported by Titanium). It can even save original file dates/info to the remote location. You can also ask the app to delete the synced files once they have been copied to the remote location. Syncness ftp's the files to my Synology FileStation NAS server on my home network - I'm not sure what other transfer protocols are supported.

[Q] Any way to save the pictures to the phone and not the sd card?

Hi, is there any way I can save the pictures to the phones memory and not the sd card? Cuz if i lose the phone then my pictures will easily be accessible. Kindly let me know. I try moving the pictures to a folder in the phone manually through root explorer but they get deleted upon reboot.

I don't know how this would work. Surely if they're on the phone and you loose the phone you'd loose all the photos stored on the phone.
Have you tried looking at Picasa Web Albums ? I personally haven't used it but it looks like it has the option to sync with the phone, then they're stored externally to the phone so always available. I've nut used Picasa Web Albums but have used Picasa in the past.
You could also look at your gmail account off a standard PC browser, top left there is a photos link, look in there. Seems linked in with Google+ though.

Cloud storage questions

1) Is it possible to instantly save to cloud storage like dropbox without saving to the phone first? For example if I take an image or video, it is instantly saved inside dropbox instead of my phone memory.
2) Is it possible to set cloud storage to sync files immediately when I save a file in my phone memory/sd card? For example when I take a picture, it is save to my phone, I also want a copy of the picture in my cloud storage (e.g. dropbox) immediately automatically.
3) What cloud storage is the best?
4) How to do backup using cloud storage?
Thanks
#1 may be possible, but it's not straightforward. You'd have to map the remote location as a local partition, maybe through Samba or FTP, then change the phone's settings to save to that mapped "folder." It's not so straightforward, and is prone to error, like what would happen if the network connection was down (or went down while you were recording video)?
The easiest solution is #2. There are a bunch of apps which do that (Dropsync and FolderSync Lite are 2 examples).
As far as comparing, it's best to do your own research, as everyone's preferences will differ, slightly. Here is a ZDNet article comparing different cloud services. Pogoplug and UbuntuOne both have apps which will automatically upload any pictures you take, making them single app solutions, if all you want is to back up pictures.

App request: automatically move newly created files from a folder (Camera) to another

I'm looking for an app to automatically move any file that appears on the SD card in DCIM/Camera to another folder, e.g. Photos/Unprocessed.
Why? Because I want my photos automatically backed up to Google Photos, but only from the folders I choose. And Camera is not one of those folders. However, Google Photos automatically forces you to back up the DCIM/Camera folder if you want automatic backups at all, which is really dumb:
If you take multiple shots of a scene and want to keep all but one, EVERY shot will waste storage and bandwidth being backed up to Google Photos. Normally I take a bunch of shots of a scene, then when I have a moment go through them and keep only one and move it to a folder it belongs to, e.g. Photos/MyDog. I want that one backed up, but not the others.
maybe I *never* want certain pics to be backed up in the cloud unencrypted, e.g. photos of tax statements or other sensitive docs
maybe there are people in the photo who didn't give me consent to back up their image in any cloud
maybe I don't want to waste time and data backing up a ****ton of pics I know I'll delete. Even if I set the sync to only happen when on Wi-Fi, it's just a stupid waste.
Note that I filed a request with the Google Photos team for this feature like half a year ago, but it fell on deaf ears, so the only solution I see is this: make an app that as soon as a file is created in DCIM/Camera (the folder Google Photos watches), it moves it to another folder, so Photos won't back it up.

Pictures missing in Gallery but visible using Samsung My Files app

I figured out a SIMPLE trick to fix pictures missing in the Gallery app (maybe other apps) but visible using Samsung My Files app.
The Fix:
1.... I am not responsible for your actions. If you choose to do this and it screws things up I am sincerely sorry but not responsible. I have backups of my backups and I rarely test on my working phone, always testing on the spare. Back your [email protected]% up
2.....Make a Backup if you can. If you can see your pictures using Samsung's My Files app(or similar) then that means you can back them up somewhere before you screw things up......
3.........Make the assumption that you are using a cloud service and put your phone into airplane mode to pause cloud syncing. Watch to ensure that both Data and Wi-Fi are indeed turned off before proceeding.
4.........Using Samsung's My Files app(or similar) navigate to Internal Storage, not the SD card
5.........Rename DCIM to DCIM1 (press and hold then open menu and select "Rename")
6.........Rename DCIM1 back to DCIM
7.........Turn off Airplane Mode
8.........Enjoy

Back Story:
I do not use a paid cloud service. Instead I use a Synology DSM and manage my own personal cloud using Synology Drive Server. I sync my phone and a spare phone(I used to travel a lot) with my 80Gbyt personal music library, pictures, sms backups, work and other data. I sync my moms pictures and sms as well. I have been doing this for a couple years. In Feb 2021 I upgrade our phones to Note 9's and I had to go through the typical steps..... clear cache, uninstall, reinstall, mom cried, found them with My Files app & moved them out of Phone/DCIM to phone/temp then moved them back. This seemed to work...... step forward to July 4th....88YO mom screaming in my ear where are my pictures....good thing she understands what a backup is ....Summer Road trip with my 16Yo son..... I get home and Synology basically forced me to update my DSM and in the process I dumped their sync'ing software and started using Resilio Sync. All in all a good thing so far .......wait pictures missing again.......F&$# aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh and then I got a lightbulb
