Xperia Z3 D6633 Not detecting 5Ghz Wifi - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi..
Bought a new Z3 dual, it was connecting fine to my 5 ghz wifi.
Suddenly, phone is no longer seeing any 5ghz wifi and can only see and connect to 2.4 ghz.
Have contacted Sony support and they advised to do system repair which I did successfully.
After repair, phone detected 5ghz wifi, but just before I connect, it again dissappeared and now phone only sees 2.4
My other phones are normally connected to 5ghz, so seems not to be router problem.
I have also tried to change wifi channel, band and even security but no change.
Appreciate if anyone can help Pls.
My Sim card connects to LTE
Carrier Ooredoo Qatar

It IS a router problem. Select your region in your router's 5GHz wifi settings, it should solve your problem as it's a common issue among dual band wifi phones.

Thanks, I will try to change router setup
But, Since other phones are working fine with 5 Ghz wifi, I don't think it's a router issue.
I have Already tried changing channels, band, security and nothing changes.

Buddy, trust me it's a REGION setting problem. I had the same issue with my Z3. All my other devices detected the 5GHz wifi fine. It's not a channel, band or security issue, but a REGION one. My router had the region set as "United States," but as soon as I set it to my country, my phone detected the 5GHz signal and connected without problems. If your phone model was bought locally and is of your region (MEA - Middle east and Asia) set the region setting on your router to your country (Qatar). If you've flashed another region's firmware on your phone, try setting the region on your router to that region and see if it works.
Tell me the brand name and model of your router if you need additional help.

Thanks a lot for ur concern, I really appreciate.
My router is linksys EA2700
I connect to it using smart wifi linksys app.
I changed channel to auto and region to +3 gmt
My Iphone connects normally to 5ghz, while z3 cannot see even surrounding neighbours wifi 5ghz
I did a repair using pc companion and I was not prompt to select a region, i guess it shd be as per sim card.
Today I called Ooredoo and technical support shd call me tomorrow hopefully.
Thanks again for ur time

Set your router to a US band if bought from the US 36-48 or 149-165, or to whichever region you bought it from. If it still fails then its the phone's WiFi chip.
Bands 36,40,44,48 are generally supported in all regions except Taiwan. So if its an inter-region issue use one of those.

Try updating your router's firmware: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=142413
And reboot.
Also, Change is SSID of the 5ghz to something different.

[Q] G2X and Wireless N

Has anyone been able to successfully connect to 802.11n? I have a Cisco Linksys E3000 Advanced Dual-Band Wireless-N Router and my laptop connects to N without issue. My G2x has no issue finding my G band and connecting to it, but the N isn't even detected. I'm not filtering by MAC address and the N band has plenty of ip's available in the DHCP pool. Additionally, Other devices can connect to the N band without issue. I saw someone had mentioned something about wireless N previously, but I can't find the post anymore.

I am the one having this issue also, but mine is with my dual band Time Capsule..Is there a setting somewhere how to activate the N on our phones?????

Mine only saw my G band, not the N on my dual-band Linksys.

i am and its connected and blazing fast good luck guys belkin
I just double checked a few spec sheets, just to make sure, but this is what they all say...
Connectivity
Bluetooth:Yes
Wi-Fi: Yes (802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n)
So I'm fairly certain I'm not all hopped up on crazy pills like Mugatu. Is it possible this feature is disabled like the FM radio?
working here - dlink dir655 connected over N.
Wireless N works perfect here, using, umm, no idea what router my office uses
I'm able to connect to wireless n router also a dlink.

nope its not picking up my wireless N band on my dual router (vizio), I think its more a froyo thing than anything
my mytouch wouldnt pick it up either, until I ran 2.3.3
Mine won't connect when I set my wifi (asus rt-n12 w/ dd-wrt) to wireless-n only. My nexus one had no problems with this.
I have a Netgear WNR3500L and set to 300Mbps.
Phone can only connect up to 72Mbps.

At most our phones can theoreticaly connect at 150 mbps, to do more than that you have to have dual band antenas inside of the phone which I don't know if there are any phones that even do that.
The phone does only 2.4 ghz N not 5 ghz N so check your routers to see what bands its using. Also 5 ghz N can go up to 300 mbps and 2.4 ghz N only goes up to 120 i believe.

It definitely supports N. I have a dual band router and my 2.4ghz radio was running 802.11G/802.11N and my G2X in Speedtest would hit 30mbps down and 20mbps up.
With JUST 802.11G the G2X maxes at 15mbps down and 10mbps up.
I've left the radio on 802.11G since it for some reason seems to take less battery and 15mbps is good enough for me right now
I'm connecting to my DIR 655 with no problems. What is everyone using to see what speed it's connecting at and whether it's connecting through B,G or N. I am showing a link speed of 65 mbps under network settings.
Linksys Dual Band N Router
Hmmm, I was looking up a problem I am having connecting to my Linksys Wireless N router and found this thread.
I am having the same issue... Can't connect at home over N, but connect at work over G with no issues.
Also I called TMobile a few days ago (had to return my original phone for another problem), but when we were trying to troubleshoot and I mentioned I had problems connecting at home, he asked if I had a Linksys wireless N router. I didn't think about it at the time until I saw this...
UPDATE:
Nothing I tried in these forums worked for me but I tell you what did. Using my old D-Link b, g router. Set this up and connected in no time, no disconnecting, no issues.
Working For me - fix is here
I had the same problem.
It wont show 5ghz / n by default.
First goto settings>wifi settings screen . click on menu and click advanced settings > Uncheck the wifi optimization.
And then scan networks. you should be able to find your n network.

[Q] Does the galaxy note 10.1 have 5ghz wifi?

Hi, most reviews I've read online says it has 5ghz wifi, but I can't connect to my router via 5ghz wifi. The online manual downloaded from samsung Canada's website also says there is 5ghz (on pg. 101). My note 10.1 can't even see 5ghz wifi ssid. I know that my 5ghz wifi is working good because both my Acer laptop and LG O4X can connect to the 5ghz wifi. Is 5ghz wifi only available on certain models? I have GT-N8010 32gb wifi only model from Canada.
Yes all models have 5ghz not tested it though may be some issues with the settings
FWIW, I can see my 5GHz 802.11n router at home, but sometimes the detection is sporadic.
I can't see 5ghz wifi at all on my note 10.1. I even tried setting it up manually and it just says not in range. Is there some setting on my note 10.1 to turn on 5ghz wifi or is it broken?
5ghz is a relatively new technology I do not see there being any specific setting for that like I said never used but to there are couple of things you can try switch only 5ghz band on ur router and try setting it up close to the router and the band has one draw back and that is the range of signals.
Can you connect any other device on 5ghz and have to tried to connect it to another router with 5ghz bandwidth
5 GHZ Wifi
I am using 5GHz Wifi on my Note 10.1.....
i have an ac66r and have no problems connecting. the range sucks though. it also doesnt give me the extra speed boost i see on my laptop. the laptop only has n150.
My router is working fine. I'm able to connect to 5 ghz wifi with my laptop and my LG Optimus 4x. The signal is strong on both. I tried putting my note 10.1 without any case beside the router and still no 5 ghz wifi. I can connect to 2.4 ghz wifi fine. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Try changing the channel the router is using. Have you flashed firmware from a different region? Because some countries use different wifi channels than others.
I'm on stock rom, not rooted and haven't flashed with any other rom. It looks like that my 5ghz wifi is on channel 149. What 5ghz wifi channels can the note 10.1 use?
According to http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels that channels should be fine. Must be some other problem then.

I live in the USA and have a GT-N8013. The 5GHz wi-fi worked day 1, right out the box. I didn't have to do any special setup. Yesterday I upgraded to JB and it's still working fine.
My router's 5GHz access point is set to use WPA2-PSK [AES] with channel 153. I changed to that channel based on a recommendation from the Wi-fi Analyzer app. It wasn't necessary to change the default channel used by my router in order for the Note to see the AP or connect.
Maybe your Note is defective?
Is there a test to determine if it's a hardware issue? My 2.4 ghz wifi works fine. Are the 2.4 and 5 ghz wifi on separate wifi cards?

It actually predates 2.4GHz WiFi.
i use channels 44 + 48. decided on these when my GS2 failed to find the higher channels.
so it is probably limited like the phones to use the more common ranges.

Find some one with another 5ghz wifi network and if your note see it then the problem is your router. If it doesn't see it either then try a factory reset. Ultimately return for warranty.

Ya 802.11a was 5ghz.
5Ghz
At my duaghters school she can only see/connect to the 5.0Ghz wifi in the lower bands/channels. I raised this with Samsung and their official response was that 5Ghz was not supported. See below. Its obviously not as absolute as thier statement as we are connect to some 5Ghz wifi routers - has anyone found the same.

As long as i know, only the 8013 model can use 5 gz... as i read in Htcmania, a site from Spain.
"Modelo GT-N8013, es solo WIFI pero opera en dos bandas las de 2´4 Ghz (España, China...) y las de 5 Ghz (paises de países Arabe´s, de EE.UU...)"
Translate: model gt 8013 only wifi but operates in two ranges: 2.4 gz ( Spain, China, etc) and 5 gz ( for arabs countries Usa, etc.)
My Note 10.1 has actually done better on my 5Ghz network. On the 2.4Ghz network I was getting weird disconnects, inability to route traffic even though it showed connected, etc. Now that I'm on the 5Ghz side, I have not had a single problem in about 3-4 weeks.

[Q] can't see the 5GHz signal

hi you all
I used to connect the 5GHz wi-fi network at home on my ipad, i just bought my new xperia z3 in israel... but the phone can't see the 5GHz signal, I'm using 2.4GHz instead. But my ipad can still see 5GHz signal and connect without any problems. The channels on 5GHz signal is 161 by the way.
So what might be the problem within my Sony Xperia Z3?
Thanks in advance.
Try setting the router to a lower channel. My router is set to 48 and the Z3C connects just fine.
By the way, channels from up 100 are not allowed to be used in Israel anyways (if I'm informed correctly)...
That could be why, is it possible the phone knows where it is and has certain channels disabled to comply with local law

Help getting wifi 5ghz

Hello.
I an having an issue with my sm-g955fd phone. I need to use the 5ghz frecuency for wifi and I can't seem to make it work. Flashed Renovate Ice 9.5 and tried many different csc's but none enables 5ghz wifi. If anyone could point me to which custom rom to flash or csc to try. I would be most greatful forever.
Thanks in advance.

How's 5ghz work when on stock OS?
Does it support the 5ghz wifi (hardware wise)?
I know most devices are still on the 2.5 or 2.4 (don't know exactly which).

Yes of course it does. All Samsung phones have used 5GHz for years.
If there is a problem getting an S8 to work then it's either a (rare) fault, or due to the custom ROM.

All S8/S8+ variants include support for 5 GHz WiFi. Are you sure you have properly set up your AP? Does the 5G connection work with some of your other devices? Try getting closer to the AP. If it does not work by then, it is likely a hardware fault.

As others have stated Samsung phones and other makes of high end phones have supported
2.4GHz and 5GHz wi fi for several years.
Although I wouldn't expect your problem to be caused by a custom Rom else other users of the ROM would likely have reported the problem , I would suggest putting a standard official Samsung rom on your phone at least until you get your wi fi functionality.
I would suggest a free play store app like wi fi analyser to easily determine which wi fi signals are seen by your S8+
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer
Also be aware when you do get 5GHz working you will notice higher data bandwidth than with 2.4Ghz but less range from your router to your phone before signal drop out.

I did some research and on gsmarena I found that Galaxy S8+ uses the Wi-Fi 802.11 (https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s8+-8523.php)
Went on Wikipedia and it seems that this 802.11 support communication in the 900 MHz and 2.4, 3.6, 5, and 60 GHz frequency bands. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11)
Also, I checked my home network and the router is working both on 2.4 and 5, however, the 5 (which is set as another network) can't be used y any device (no laptop or smartphone).
I don't want to create confusion here, but it seems this 5ghz frequency is not as usual as the 2.4 one. And by checking my Internet connection speed on the 2.4ghz frequncy, it looks like there is no advantage of using the 5 frequency (my Internet speed on wifi is close to the Internet speed via Lan cable).

802.11 has a large number of subcategories
802.11a
802.11b
802.11n
802.11ac
and a vast number of others.
These have different frequency allocations and different channel bandwidth.
I could have explained better that in some cases 2.4Ghz will give adequate throughput (at or close to your internet speed)
802.11g is a 2.4Ghz standard with maximum of 54Mbps
However if internet speed is much higher as in my case then I get benefits from using
802.11ac 5GHz standard with single link bandwidth up to 500Mbps.
I would agree that wi fi using 5GHz probably not as common usage as 2.4Ghz which can have additional benefits as less potential for interference from nearby wi fi that uses same frequency range

I use 5G all the time..have high speed internet so see big diff. Since you say none of your devices can connect to 5G, you should play around with channel used..know there is a diff between US and Europe and channels used.
If you see same speed from reg wifi and hardwired lan line..5G will not make a diff.
Thanks to everyone i deffinitely cant get it to work. The reason I need 5ghz is cause i am using a slinstudio device wich works only on 5ghz frecuency and i cant connect to it. So i tried other 5ghz networks and found that i cant connect either. I guess i will have to change phones or something but its a shame i cant get it to work.
Another potential solution is to check your router's IP blocklist. I had the S7 Edge and now the S9+ and apparently the phone may spam the router with UDP requests making the router think you are performing a DDOS attack. Clearing the IP your phone is using from the block list may resolve the issue.
S8 on 5ghz WiFi
To get your device to run on 5ghz WiFi all you need to do is ...
Open WiFi connections ...
Add new network ...
Type out your SSID followed by a (space) and the number 2 ...
So ... if your SSID is homeWiFi ... you need to add homeWiFi 2 ... the pass key is the same and won't need changing

Your router is likely using a channel assignment that isn't available to your client devices, check the ETSI standards for acceptable use on the 5GHz band if you're in Europe.

5Ghz Wifi not detecting

Hi I got realme 5 pro 8gb variant 2 days ago as per specs it supports dual-band wifi 5ghz but it is not detecting my 5ghz wifi from the router. can someone please help me with this?
I tried to change the channel but in vain. That 5ghz wifi is shown on my laptop but not on phone.
Almost the same happens with my Realme Q. When I share hotspot on 2.4 GHz every device detects it and is able to connect. When I share 5 GHz mobile devices won't see it neither does my old Desktop PC that has wifi adapter.

I think the issue has something to do with antenna of the device and which bands does it support. Perhaps? I'm sure they use different bands in china and different lte/4g/wifi technologies there than someplace else, other countries in the world.
