I was looking for a way to edit a TWRP backup. Basically doing a debloat on it. To where it would just contain my apps and data I installed not all the samsung apps and all the other stuff that does not need to be backed up. I have seen where you can unpack the backup on a computer but I would not know what would be safe to delete. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

Why not run it and debloat? I have a zip file that will strip it down
You have a program that will debloat a TWRP backup? I am trying to make the size of the TWRP smaller and take out the junk. I know I can wipe the phone and install a new rom then use TiBu to just install the apps and data I want but seems silly to have a 3.5GB file siting on my phone when I only need 500-600MB of it.
Edit: Are you talking about Galaxy Cleaner.zip?

That and just go in the system and take out whatever you want
Yea but that doesn't reduce the size of my backup sitting on my phone.

Well the backup is the same as whatever you're running. The system it self is huge. Same stuff you pull from a nandroid is the same stuff you're running so decide what you don't want and roll with that. I've opened the tar file and pulled the system. Best thing you can do is zip your backup if you need space
If I want to pay some one to make this program for me where would you suggest I ask. I think it would be a great thing for users with small amounts of storage space.

Thats your problem. You can pretty much cut the size in half without editing anything. Backup up and restore time is a little more but not significant. Try it out you can save a lot of space

I have tried but for the number of times I flash a day I would rather deal with the size than time. I am scared to see what my flash counter is on my phone.

Lol Gotcha...... I only see maybe an extra 5 mins when flashing a large backup. I have your ROM backed up for a quick boot for Android pay because it seems to work on your rom, thanks BTW for how light it is. So I can flash back and forth pretty quickly.

Thanks. Glad you like it. Yea Android pay works for me too, I was happy about that. I think it looks at some framework files as well as root. I have another ROM in the works it's and odexed and even faster than my current ROM. Still having problems to get it to Flash in TWRP by a zip though. It's an OI1 Rom and they changed something that I have not figured out yet.
I carry 3 ROM's on my phone Wicked 3.1 super debloat, Wicked Ram hybrid, and OI1 Super Odex.

Disable md5 when you make the backup as it will not work if you edit it. Then use copy to combine the files then edit with 7zip.

I switched roms 3 times last night and each time I either try to download the apps again or reinstall from the apk file I saved in a directory.
Are there better ways of doing this?
I think I'm switching again tonight.

to expand on this a little bit, the paid version of Titanium Backup allows you to reinstall apps in a single batch. A key costs $5.90 and it's a great investment considering how much time it saves you if you frequently flip ROMs as most of us do!

So that means that you don't have to tell it to install every app? That would be a huge time saver.
Oh, the full version of titanium backup....got it.
I'm not using a microsd. I can keep the backup right on the tablet's flash memory as I reflash the roms right?
Thanks

So a few days ago I bought OdinMaker. I've since made a backup but haven't tried to flash it yet. The reason I haven't flashed it is because the file is 1.8 GB in size. Why is that. I did a Full Backup of the Phone under the simple menu.
What's the difference between "quick minimal backup", "essential backup", and "full backup".
I want something similar to what nandroid would do. My friend said his nandroid backups are only like 400-600MB. I'm also pretty confident that I don't have 1.8 GB of stuff on my phone anyway. Is it simply things uncompressed?
I think I read somewhere that flashing my 1.8GB file would take like 3 hours which is why I'm yet to flash it.
Thanks

Its meant so you can quickly and easily flash a complete mirror image of your backup with the same exact ROM and kernel and data without losing anything. It's the perfect backup, that's why its so big.
With nandroid, to get back where you were originally, you would have to flash the correct ROM and kernel and make sure its voodoo if you were running that before and if not it will screw things up. Also nandroid usually won't bring you back from serious problems and errors. Odin is supposed to be the ultimate oh **** backup that brings you back to the exact spot with no problems where you backed up.
I doubt 3 hours though, I'd say 30 minutes max. A typical 500mb odin file will take ~6 minutes to flash. So do the math
so whats the difference between quick, essential, and full?

While im not totally sure, I can make an educated guess. My guess is that quick is just the base system with only your most important data like contacts and stuff like that. Whereas essential is probably you're most important data and then some apps of your choosing. And the full is everything. Just a guess though. Google might do you good.

Does anyone know under the advanced backup what to use to backup the theme?
I have titanium pro and also have a complete odin backup but want to backup just the portion with the theme so I can try new themes and then odin back to original.
Thank you in advance

I had a lot of stuff and a lot of paid and customizable apps in there. Im still very new to all of this. I know there has to be a way to retrieve, zip, flash, im happy. I have copies of the BU on my extSD and computer if that matters. Thanks in advanced for any help.
My only answer would be to re-install everything from play store then do it the proper way.?.?.?.?
I just flashed LiquidSmooth

If you put the backup file on external sd you have to point Tibu at it in preferences or move to internal sd.
You can make a flashable zip of your TiBu backups???
Im curious as to which recovery is working the best with the Galaxy Note 10.1. Im not asking which is the best, but I see darkman has come out with a touch version of cwm and I have the latest TWRP...Only issue i have is that it doesnt see my cwm backups....I havent had any issues with it yet though...Im just curious thats all
I always preferred cwm.. it is more stable.. use to love with twrp when I had asus tf101 but sometimes I couldnt see my internal sd card and sometimes I couldnt mount system.. but just use what works for you..

Thanks for the input.... I do have to constantly tap the external sd option because it takes me back to the main screen. Im assuming its a sensitivity issue

Agreed. I've found CWM to be very stable. I loved to move to the touch version, though you have to be careful sometimes about accidentally touching an unwanted option. But since a confirmation menu comes up for each option that makes changes, you can easily correct it.
I have used CWM on all my devices and have worked without an itch so prefer CWM
Tried install TWRP on my device once it refused to install contacted the developers did not get the response so ditched it.
Twerp don't seem to get on with note .
But i would say their is very little difference between using TWRP or CWM for most users .
I use TWRP on SGS3 and CWM on Note .
jje
I moved to TWRP awhile ago for my phones and currently use it on my Note. As far as stability goes CWM is much more stable, though I have it tried the touch version(thinking of checking it out though.) TWRP is a little wonky sometimes, but I think that's a sensitivity issue.
As another poster already said, there's no real big difference between the two and they both get the job done.
My big problem with CWM is the backups. Maybe I didn't spend enough time with it or missed an option somewhere. But since they moved to the BLOB model for backups I found it impossible to delete an old backup. I like to do backups often, but I usually only want to keep 2 iterations due to the space they take up. With TWRP it's easy, each backup has it's own folder. Want to delete one, just delete the whole folder.
If someone can tell me how to manage backups properly in CWM I'd be glad to switch back.

That's one of the reasons I stay with TWRP on my Note despite the super sensitive touch. In all it's wonkiness I've just become more of a fan due to the ease of the touch UI and the ability to just delete the backup folder.

Easiest way I've found to manage backups with CWM is to use ROM Manager. It's integrated with CWM such that in the app you ask it to do a backup, you name the backup anything you want, then it automatically reboots into recovery and does it. ROM Manager also allows you to download your backups to you computer via WiFi, and has an easy option to delete backups. Further, CWM has the option to restore data only from a backup for easily getting settings back when doing a ROM upgrade. Geez I'm more sold on CWM than I thought. I almost sound likes a salesperson haha.

Don't apologize, you provided good information. On my HP Touchpad I used TWRP exclusively because it integrated with Goo Manager. But I really don't plan to use anything other than Mobile Odin to flash anything so not much reason to keep it. I may switch back to CWM and try the ROM Manager interface for the backups.
EDIT:
Well that didn't work well at all. Installed and tried to do a backup. Told me (obviously) that I needed CWM installed. Said there wasn't an official version for it so it then asked me if I already had one installed. I answered yes. It then asked if I had version 2 or version 3. But what I have installed has a version number of 6 something. Oh well, back to TWRP I guess.
I thought we could manager the CWM backup from a file manager I have been doing that on my optimus 2x never did it on note though

With older versions I was able to do that. But this newer version I have installed doesn't really work that way. It creates 2 folders for a backup. One has the backup name with just a small file inside. The other folder is called BLOBS. In that fold are multiple other folders that are alphabetical, I assume by file name. The problem is, when you create a 2nd backup, it used the same BLOBS folder. So there is no way to just delete one folder to delete a complete backup.
yes I remember that when I was trying to delete CWM backup files and did not find them. Thanks for the update
---------- Post added at 09:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:59 PM ----------
A noob method try to sort by date/time should tell you which files were updated during your last backup and will give you an idea how the update works. Let me do some R&D on it
I just don't want to have to manually delete files from 20+ directories when, with TWRP, I can just delete one folder.

Change the backup format to "tar" and you'll get the old directory structure back.
Anyone have a link to a flashable zip that removes bloatware, that will work in 4.3 AOSP ROM's?
I can't seem to get my old one to work anymore. Maybe because it was for 4.1?

Ehh, freezing or uninstalling apps via Titanium takes a LOT longer than just flashing a removal zip. Especially when you're uninstalling about 20-30 apks like I do.
I flash a lot, and not just my phone but my friends as well.
So this method saves me a lot of time:
1) Flash ROM
2) Flash Gapps
3) Flash Bloatkiller
4) Reboot
5) Flash Titanium Backup batch zip of all apps/data
Anyways, I don't need a bloat zip anymore. I couldn't get my old script to work, so I just added all my delete lines to an existing Gapps zip. Which removes step #3 above.
So it flashes my Gapps and removes bloat, all in one zip. Should have just done it this way to begin with! :good:
And OMG I save sooooo much time & frustration by doing things this way.
Now if I can just figure out how to get the TB batch zip to flash immediately after flashing the ROM, then I can use TWRP queue flash to flash all three zips back-to-back with just one swipe.
