Hello and thanks in advance, my question is- I'm going to change to AT&T service from T Mobile service and I want to make sure that all my t-mobile branded phones would work properly on AT&T service.
My phones:
(all network unlocked and t-mobile branded)
LG 90
Iphone 5c
Samsung Note 4
-Would my phones celluar and data networks work on the att network?
-Would my tmobile phones get new updated firmware and software when it's released if used on ATT?
-Would MMS and imessage work?
-Would visual voicemail work?
-Should I just buy ATT branded phones? I don't really want to as I have expensive phones already and would be super expensive to get all new ones.
-Is there anything else I should know before transferring service?
Any suggestions or info is appreciated.

Hi, thanks for using XDA Assist!
Your best bet would be to call AT&T or go to a store and speak with a representative.
Good luck!

Hello all, I plan on buying a Nexus 5 from a private seller. He was previously on At&t. If I were to take it to Tmobile and buy a 70 unlimited plan and put in the Tmobile sim would everything be working? Would the Nexus 5 be locked to at&t or the esn be locked to them? What if the person cancelled there at&t service would it be locked to at&t? I am a noob when it comes to these things. Any help is appreciated.
The nexus 5 is not carrier locked for SIM devices.
No worries about it being tied to AT&T or their account as AT&T doesn't sell the phone. Unless he purchased it from Sprint or T-Mobile and it's tied to a contract there and he hasn't been using it long enough on AT&T for Sprint/T-mobile to blacklist it, but not likely. You can check the IMEI vs the global blacklist either:
http://swappa.com/esn
or
checkesnfree.com
or from T-Mobile (though good luck getting it to recognize the IMEI - has sucked at that recently)

Hi all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy 4 that I got with a 2 year contract with Verizon. That contract is up and I like the phone very much. I saw that I could save a lot of money with Ting as my carrier (Ting.com) and bought a SIM card from them. I followed all of the Ting instructions, but working with their support staff apparently they have issues working with phones that did not come from Sprint or Tmobile. I can make calls with my phone through Ting, but texts do not work and when I call voicemail it gives me an error. This error might be because the phone is still calling the Verizon service for voicemail, which is cancelled.
If I root my phone (never done it before) can I bring it back to the manufacturer settings before Verizon put any software on it? If so, what software/ROM do you recommend to get it back to factory settings. I think this is my only chance to get Ting to work with this phone. I don't want to have to sign up with Verizon or ATT and pay activation fees.
I appreciate the help.

Hi, thanks for using XDA assist!
The problem here is that Verizon is a GSM carrier and Sprint is CDMA.

Thanks for responding. Actually Ting has deals with Tmobile and Sprint so it works. I am GSM and the phone says Tmobile at the top now, so I dont think that is the issue. Do you know if my idea regarding rooting will work?

Unfortunately, I don't think that will work. I know from repairing phones, that phones built for Verizon have different internal hardware than phones built for Sprint. While it may be possible that I'm wrong, and your phone might be successfully ported to Ting, I feel it is highly unlikely.
I think you should contact Ting customer support and get a definite answer before proceeding.

As long as they're carrier unlocked, they should all work fine on AT&T. Your iPOS and Note 4 support all of AT&T's LTE bands. The L90 doesn't have LTE, only HSPA, and AT&T's 3G network is inferior to T-Mobile's. so data on that phone will probably be disappointing (but no doubt it's not the only thing disappointing about that phone).

They should. I can't say 100% for sure, but connect via wi-fi, and it should still receive updates. I guess it's possible that an update might require a T-Mobile SIM card (even if on wi-fi), but that's just a guess. Borrow a friend's SIM card for a a bit, if this is the case.

It's my understanding that Visual Voicemail is a T-Mobile service, so I doubt it would work if you switched providers. I've never used it myself, and disabled it on the devices that have it. Annoying, unwanted effing notifications.

Screw that. AT&T locks the bootloaders, makes root more difficult, so if you have any notion of root access and/or custom ROMs, stick with T-Mobile devices. Your current devices will work just fine
I got an att gear s2 but I don't have att service so I wanted to know if I can use it to connect to let's say T-Mobile since its an esim.
Unfortunately this is why American carriers, at least that's what my knowledge covers, f&#king suck! Out comes this new technology that for the first time will allow people to have the potential to use any carrier with the same hardware, and then carriers like AT&T refuse to unlock them.
Yes, I called AT&T and T-Mobile and AT&T doesn't unlock watches. I hope someone finds a way to somehow port the T-Mobile software over to the AT&T hardware.
The esim should be universal right? Like it should work for any carriers. If so wouldn't it work if we pay for an unlock code? Even tho we wouldn't be inserting another sim, the imei would be released to be used by other carriers. Does it make sense at all? Lol
My n6 was like that. It couldn't be used by other carrier until I unlocked it and its imei was released from att to be used by others.

The problem I noticed is the fact that there are custom settings for AT&T and so even if you unlocked it, I think you would need to still flash the appropriate software. I'm just guessing though.
It's really frustrating that I've got the first big consumer device using an eSIM and I can't take advantage of it's most basic and essential feature.
Any updates on this? The AT&T watch is like half the price as T-mo and I'm interested in using AT&T watch on T-mobile if possible
Any updates? I just switched mobile carriers from ATT to TMobile and would like to use my watch on their network
I have the S2 Classic SM-R735AZKAATT (for AT&T obviously) but I'd like to have it set up with T-Mobile.
Can I take this into T-Mobile and set up service? If so, anyone know how much?
I wish I would have known that WiFi calling wasn't supported on unlocked Note 10 + before purchase. I need WiFi calling and so I am trying to flash the T-Mobile firmware onto my Unlocked Note 10 +. The problem is that I am not getting any of the T-Mobile branding or features after flashing. I think this is because it doesn't recognize my SIM as being a T-Mobile SIM. I use Mint Mobile which is a MVNO running off the T-Mobile network. If I would have just kept my Google Pixel I would have all the features that I need that T-Mobile offers such as the WiFi calling and HD voice.
Is there any way for force the device to enable the T-Mobile specific features available in the firmware? I am thinking about going and pickup a prepaid T-Mobile SIM to see if it will activate the features with that. I am beyond frustrated at this point as I have an expensive phone that I can't get any of the features on that I had on my Pixel 2 XL.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have an unlocked Note10+ (N975U1) with T-Mobile (standard unlimited-everything plan), and WiFi calling works fine for me with the default unlocked firmware.
You may be right about the sim card. If T-Mobile is your carrier, can you get a regular sim card from them?

I don't know the answer to your question, but can tell you of a similar experience I had buying an unlocked Note 8 from Samsung and trying to use it on Verizon network. No WiFi calling, visual voicemail and other notification features, in spite of hours spent on phone with Samsung and Verizon. I ended up returning it and buying the Verizon branded one. Lesson learned! There are cons as well as pros with unlocked phones.

It depends on the carrier. T-Mobile is good about supporting its features on unlocked Notes, definitely including WiFi calling. Verizon is not.

WiFi calling does appear to be working now on the unlocked firmware for me. I have the latest update that was just pushed a few days ago.
