This is an FAQ for the Huawei Ideos as there have been many questions on how to do the same things. Hopefully this should help. There are other FAQs but this one tries to compile as many as it can into one FAQ.
Feel free to reply to this if there are any questions or if you want me to make any additions. The FAQ won't be complete to begin with but I will add as I get time.
One thing I will say is that I WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBITY IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR PHONE. I AM PROVIDING THE INFORMATION AND WILL TRY TO HELP YOU IF SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS BUT I CAN'T TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY
1. How to root the IDEOS
This can be done quite simply by adapting what quail wrote:
There is a couple away you can go about gaining root access with this phone I have tested all 3 ways but only had success with 2 of them.
a) You can download 'z4root' from here (WORKS)
b) Search the XDA forums for 'SuperOneClick' which requires mono to work on Linux. I have read people that have had success with 'SuperOneClick' but that was not the case for me. (HAVEN'T CHECKED)
c) My preferred method: (HAVEN'T CHECKED)
Prerequisite:
knowledge of Linux and Terminal
knowledge of ADB (guide available in forums)
I did all this using Debian (testing) 64bit, Android SDK.
Creating correct permissions to access the phone via USB:
i) create
Code:
/etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
ii) in the file put
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="12d1", MODE="0666"
iii) then
Code:
chmod a+r /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
iv) restart udev or reboot
Downloading and/or Installing required software:
1) Downloading and installing the android-sdk from: developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2) Downloading and extracting 'SuperOneClick' (you will only need these 5 files: rageagainstthecage, sqlite3, su, busybox and superuser.apk)
3) Copy rageagainstthecage, sqlite3, su, busybox and superuser.apk into the platform-tools directory of android-sdk. Put phone in debug mode.
4) From a terminal (command line) change to the android/platform-tools directory and carefully do these steps.
Check to see if adb can see your phone properly:
Code:
./adb devices
You should see the serial number of you device, if you see bunch of '?' you have done something wrong.
Now for the fun part rooting the phone: <= no phun intended hehe
Code:
./adb push rageagainstthecage /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage
Code:
./adb shell
Code:
cd /data/local/tmp
Code:
chmod 0755 rageagainstthecage
Code:
./rageagainstthecage
5) Now wait until you get kicked out from adb before you do the following:
Code:
./adb shell
If everything worked now you should see a "#" instead of the "$" you saw previously in the adb shell which means you shouldn't get "permission denied" in the following steps:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mdtblock4 /system
Code:
exit
Code:
./adb push su /system/bin/su
Code:
./adb push busybox /system/bin/busybox
Code:
./adb push sqlite3 /system/bin/sqlite3
Code:
./adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
Code:
./adb shell
Code:
cd /system/bin
Code:
chmod 4755 su
Code:
chmod 4755 busybox
Code:
chmod 4755 sqlite3
Code:
./adb reboot
Now you should be able to use apps like 'Cache Cleaner NG', 'Root Explorer', 'SetCPU' etc that require root access to work correctly.
Enjoy
2. How to flash the Ultrakiller Recovery Image
Now this has been covered many times but there have been a lot of problems with the BSOD on the IDEOS. A few days ago Ultrakiller came up with a solution that works regardless of the LCD type. Now this was distributed as an IMG file so many people were confused so here is a link to one with everything you need included. All I did was remove the amon'ra image and copied the Ultrakiller recovery IMG to the folder and edited the scripts to point to the new file.
After you download the file:
* Put your device in bootloader mode - turn it off, then press the power button while holding the 'Volume Down' and 'End (Red)' keys (Yes, bootloader is just the IDEOS logo) WHILE YOUR DEVICE IS PLUGGED IN
* WINDOWS - double click 'install-recovery-windows.bat'
* MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-recovery-mac.sh' followed by './install-recovery-mac.sh'
* LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-recovery-linux.sh' followed by './install-recovery-linux.sh'
See Q3 if you have Windows and the prompt hangs on "Waiting for Device"
3. How to solve problems with drivers on Windows in bootloader mode?
1. Unplug your phone
2. Download and install PDANet from here - at the end of the setup it will tell you to plug in your phone - do that
3. Put the phone into bootloader (See Q2 above)
4. Go to device manager and right click on "Android 1.0" and click "Update drivers"
5. Click "No, not this time" and Next
6. When it asks you where to look for drivers point it to PDANet's install location
7. Hopefully it should find the driver and prompt you to install it - it will take some time
8. You can now access your device in bootloader!
Thanks to the following people:
Quail for the base of the guide and the ROM I'm using - it's amazing BTW

Hi - the Ultrakiller recovery IMG in the ZIP from the Link above is "Ultrakiller.img.img". Dunno if it didnt work cause of this - sry didnt test, just downloaded new Ultrakillers "UltraJack-Recovery_v4.6.2.img", saved into that folder and changed the .bat to "fastboot-windows.exe flash recovery UltraJack-Recovery_v4.6.2.img" and it worked for me Even superuser.apk didnt work for usb-root but z4root does it perfect and DroidExplorer showing files now .
Thanks so far to all investing their time here
P.S.: the HUAWEI background of Ultrakillers recovery is very delicious

Dear have u find out the solution of this problem?? COZ im also suffering from this if u find it then plz tell me [email protected]
I have downloaded a rom from xda-developers wiki from this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Huawei_U8150_IDEOS
then updated my device software by going in to update mode(press vol up + end key + power button) .
This step returned me my original recovery.
But I am not going to recommend it bcoz i am facing problems like my cd drive which is automatically displayed has become inaccessible.
I am having problem to copy files to sd card.
My upgrade mode is not working now.
all these things were working immediately after the above mentioned process but I am now stuck with these things.
I think it is because i have flashed lower version number of rom on phone.
If you want to recover recovery mode only then I have successfully flashed UltraJack-Recovery 5.2.1 from this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860189&page=24
Inform about your progress
Thanx. Very useful
Hi guys. I am in a lot of trouble with my ideos.
Tried installing a custom ROm using ROM manager and it failed, although the original ROM is still there and its booting up and working perfectly.
However, when i try to boot into recovery, only the lit blackscreen shows.
I have tried everything from running ULTRAjack recovery on windows(which only shows 'waiting for device' on cmd, with the pdanet drivers installed) to ubuntu(which shows 'waiting for device' on Amon-ra recovery and permission denied on ULTRAjack).
Could it be i didnt root the device properly since i used z4 root?
Any more ideas?

How to fix permission denied is in op - set permissions on executable file to 755. Then copy your system folders into /data/local/TDA/system.
Just started on my Z1C, AOSP. Not sure if it's going to work, but so far so good...

Tera is a cloud file system with unlimited storage size by extending the storage blocks to the cloud.
We recently released Tera ROM for Nexus 5x Post Here. However, it requires that you wipe the phone in order to install it. Not to mention that it works only on Nexus 5X.
After some serious effort, we have successfully crafted a new version that works on most Android phones without having to wipe them! All you need is root access. It is easy to install and uninstall, without the need of backing up your data, or the fear of destroying your existing files.
Changelog
2017.09.27 First release.
2017.10.03
Make phone permission is not necessary.
Support click to install in windows bat file.
2017.10.13
Add debug log for support new devices.
Improve stability for install script.
Support Android 7.0
2017.10.18
Support Android 6.0.X
solve problem with `adb push` in Windows
2017.11.02

2017.11.08

Tera-root has been tested on these devices:
Nexus 5X Android 8.0.0
Nexus 5X Android 7.1.2
Nexus 5X Android 7.1
Nexus 5X Android 7.0.0
Nexus 5X Android 6.0.1
Nexus 5X Android 6.0.0
Nexus7 Android 4.4.4
Nexus7 Android 4.4
Nextbit Robin Android 7.1.1
Samsung SM-T211 Android 4.4.2
Feature
Root-tera differs from the original LG Nexus 5X version Post Here in the following ways:
Root-tera uses a separate location (see below) to store its data so it won’t affect your existing data. Depending on the Android version, the location may be:
/sdcard/MY-TERA
/MY-TERA
/storage/MY-TERA
This directory can be accessed by any app.
Original functions that still work the same way:
Tera extends your phone storage to the cloud and makes your local storage look as big as your cloud storage.
Tera can use Google drive or Openstack Swift as backend storage. Just choose the one you want from the Tera app, and follow the setup instructions.
Guide
Reminders:
Grant the permission requests when they are shown.
If something’s not working, check the permission setting of SuperSu and the Tera app.
Installation steps:
Make sure the device is ROOTed and has SuperSu by TWRP installed.
Connect to the device through adb.
Download the Root-tera package and unzip.
Package for 7.1+ & 8.0.0 64 bit Link Here
Package for 7.1+ & 8.0.0 32 bit Link Here

Package for 4.4.X 32 bit Link Here
In root-tera directory, execute ./setup.sh install (Linux/Mac) or setup.bat install (Windows).
Grant permissions in SuperSU and wait for installation to finish. (In some cases it might fail on the first attempt. Don’t worry, just uninstall and then try install again.)
Open Tera app and grant permsssions again.
If you’re using Google Drive as your backend, you’ll be taken to a browser window and asked to log in to your Google Drive account.
Login and enjoy. Any app can use /sdcard/MY-TERA to store anything you like.
If you can’t see MY-TERA directory through MTP, go to Settings - Apps, in the “...” drop down menu on the top-right corner, select “Show System”, scroll down to select “Media Storage”, tap “Storage", then tap “CLEAR DATA” to clear the SD card directory cache. Reboot the device and wait for the system to rebuild the SD card directory cache. It may take a few minutes.
Uninstallation steps:
All data in /sdcard/MY-TERA will be DELETED, in the device and in the cloud.
Connect to the device through adb.
In root-tera directory, execute ./setup.sh uninstall (Linux/Mac) or setup.bat uninstall (Windows).
That's all.
The data on the backend are still there and need to be removed manually. If you reinstall Root-tera, you will see a fresh start on your device.

From you screenshot, that operation is not support with direct click it.
You have to open a cmd and go to root-tera dir and type `setup.bat install`
In Root-Tera dir's address and type cmd
C:\root-tera-0.10.1-7+>setup.bat install
I think we will make setup.bat more simple in next release

Couple of Suggestions
Failed on my HTC M8 running lineageOS 14.1, but I was able to play around with your shell scripts and here are my thoughts
- not sure if you needed to keep the directory structure or not, but I changed your setup.bat to push the files in the 'files' directory on sdcard. So the directory structure is the same.
- on my OS, /sdcard does not allow executing files, so I changed your install part of setup.bat to copy all the files to /data/local/tera, so my setup.bat now has:
:START_UP
adb shell su -c "rm -rf /data/local/tera"
adb shell su -c "(cd /sdcard ;tar cf - tera |(cd /data/local; tar xvf -))"
adb shell su -c "find /data/local/tera -exec chmod 777 {} \;"
adb shell su -c "/data/local/tera/tera %UserInput%"
I also edited the tera shell script to reflect this change. All works except now the hcfsconf reports: "/data/local/tera/tera[407]: /system/hcfs/hcfsconf: not executable: 64-bit ELF file ". neither of the versions you have posted work. If I try and just run it manually I get "sh: ./hcfsconf: not executable: 64-bit ELF file
"
Looking forward to the next version

Hello, i also need to root this tablet, i want to enable remote control because i will give it to my grand mother. Any help on how to unlock bootloader or root the tablet will be apreciate ! THank you !
I found this thread : 4pda.ru / forum / index.php?showtopic=819301&st=80#entry64752617
They say to do the following command but i have "permission denied on all commands" !
Process:
- Unpack Magisk-v13.6 (1360) .zip
- In the unpacked folder, load the file boot-verified.img from the firmware and rename it to boot.img . And also rename the arm64 folder to magisk_inject
- Once again we make sure that the following folders and files are in the prepared folder: META-INF, boot.img, common, magisk_inject .
- Open the terminal from this folder (for win7 holding the shift, call the context menu and select Open command window here) and enter 5 lines of commands, one at a time (I used to copy-paste):
adb shell "rm -rf / data / local / tmp / *"
adb push META-INF / com / google / android / update-binary common magisk_inject boot.img / data / local / tmp
adb shell "cd / data / local / tmp / magisk_inject; mv ../common/*.; chmod 755 *; sh ../update-binary indep boot_patch.sh ../boot.img; mv ../bin/busybox busybox "
adb pull / data / local /tmp/magisk_inject/new-boot.img
adb shell "cd / data / local / tmp; rm -rf * .img magisk_inject / *. img update-binary bin common"
THank You !

Hi there
I tried dozen of methods to root this device and always failed.
I was ready to give up when I decided to give a last chance to me.
I have tried the Hovatek's brilliant fastboot way with magisk manager but always stucked on the critical last point.
OK, follow these intructions
#extrack Magisk 13 on a PC folder
# copy the files in common folder on sdcard in your device
#copy the original boot.IMG of your firmware on the sdcard
#open your device install and run Magisk manager app
#under this app install Magisk and chose .img
#go to sdcard and select your boot.img for patching
#look at the terminal if the job is done
#find the patched image in the Magisk folder at the main storage
#flash it with sp flash tool
#enjoy and forgive me for my basic English
PS. I'm looking for twrp or cwm for this device.
Please inform me if you know something about.

Just did it. it works, though it was horrible. magisk 13 is too old and I could not find how to patch the boot.img option.
so I managed to do with the common files from 18.1 and the patching complete.
then I re-flashed everything and unfortunately it reset the tablet, but worked and I'm rooted now.
As you, waiting to the confirmation twrp exist, and if so what version.
cheers

Followed the same but with latest Magisk and SP flash tools. It works and now my Onda V10 pro is rooted.
If you guys need latest google play services to be running on Onda V10 Pro. Please use LuckyPatcher after installing Magisk to install latest google play services(arm64-v8a).
Install LuckyPatcher and provide super user access.
1. Uninstall existing google play services using LuckyPatcher.
2. Download arm64-v8a compatible latest google play services and install as a system app using LuckyPatcher. After that it will ask for reboot and after rebooting it will show android apps updating loader for few mins.
3. Then you can use any apps that require latest google play services. For me youtube was not working before but now its working.

For installing ROM with fastboot in Linux (Ubuntu 18.04)
Download platform-tools for Linux from here:
https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
open terminal:
Code:
sudo su
cd to/platform-tools.zip/directory
cp platform-tools_VERSION-linux.zip /opt
cd /opt
unzip platform-tools_VERSION-linux.zip
cd ~
nano .bashrc
Add this line to end of .bashrc:
Code:
export PATH="/opt/platform-tools:$PATH"
And save it, now enter:
Code:
source .bashrc
Connect your phone to PC and continue:
(Make sure USB debugging enabled in developr options)
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
cd to/rom/directory
./flash_all.sh
That's it! Wait until flash process complete.

Isn't easier to extract the zip file with the mouse right click, and then simply sudo-copy the extracted content to usr/local/bin ?

There is a directory in the zip (platform-tools), so you have to add /usr/local/bin/platform-tools to your PATH envvar ?

No, the system packages will be installed in the /usr/ directory. If you check, you will find that /usr/local/ is empty, because it's there only to host files that doesn't have a package (like the platform-tools zip) and can be used by all users. No package will ever write anything in /usr/local/.
An example: you find some fonts on the internet, but they are not packaged, just regular .ttf files. You want to share those fonts with all the users in the system, but you can't put them in /usr/share/fonts/ because they could conflict with some fonts installed by system packages. So what you will do? Copy them to each user?
The cleanest solution is to put them in /usr/local/share/fonts/, that is like putting them in /usr/share/fonts/ but without interfering with the package system.
You can surely use /opt/ instead, but using /usr/local/bin/ will save you from manually setting the path variable, because /usr/local/bin/ is already included in the path variable by default by the OS.
But we're going a bit off-topic, better stop here or if you're interested, we can continue via P.M.
I have to ask. Is this MIUI or the proper Android One stock ROM?
It's a vanilla Android stock rom.
Sorry for interrupting, but can anyone explain what is use for those fastboot images?
Thank you so much for this @Niktendo
this saved me so much
can we install ota updates with miflash after extract system.img boot.img etc .. from zip file by replace it with old img's ?
