Question Regarding GS4 ROMS - General Questions and Answers

I have a Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 for Verizon with all the wonderful TouchWIZ bloatware, I've seen a few Nexus 5's and like there UI better, looks cleaner, runs cleaner. I have a friend with a Note 2 that was able to get a clean ROM running on his device that makes it basically look and function like a Nexus device. I have looked online, I keep finding ROMs for ATT phones that supposedly break Verizon phones or don't state my specific model. How do I go about finding a good Google Play Edition ROM for my Galaxy S4 Verizon SCH-I545?

im in BC, canada with roger, still have 1 year contract.
i like the look of GS II(i9100)
but rogers don't have it, only Bell GSII 4G look the same, and i'm not going to move to bell
3 device im interested
Motorola razr
Galaxy Nexus
GSII LTE(i'm not going to upgrade to LTE network...LTE seems less interested to me)
what i think about those 3 phones
razr have the best look(i think).
Galaxy Nexushave the best support for android(son of Google)
LTE.....only faster CPU, and expensive LTE
which one should i get....
give me some suggestions please
thank you very much
i'd go for the Galaxy Nexus seeing you're into custom roms
Galaxy Nexus should
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is fine, or the HTC HD2 (warning, it has windows but HUGE Android ROM Support here)
HTC sensation?
GS2 is better than Sensation, not to mention Gnexus..
GS2 weights less, performs much faster (my bro can barely play GTA3 on Sensation) and has a much, much better* screen which you can even use outdoors.
HTC Sensation is very nice. ;-) Awesome design and performance!
Go with the Nexus...
720p resolution screen is amazing!
Plus it's a google phone and from the looks it will be a major flagship device for them (unlike the nexus s), so it will receive all and any new updates first. That being said when the official release is made the custom roms will only be that much more stable!
thank you everyone!
i guess i will go for galaxy nexus.

I woudla said sgs or sgs II but seeing how you're not interested in the SGS and nor much interested in the SGS II then i'd say galaxy nexus, being a direct google product has the obvious benefits, plus being a samsung product ensures good reliability, and custom ROM-ing seems very popular and well supported for the samsung line of smart phones. My SGS seems to have a shed load of ROMS for it!
Nexus S

That will be my choice too, go for it.
--------------------------------
HTC Sensation @ ARHD 6.2.1
--------------------------------
Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy Nexus. Simple choice.
If you must choose now take Galaxy Nexus, but better is to wate until april/may when new phones will arrive to carriers.
Nexus
I would say #1 is the galaxy nexus. It is a great advantage if you want stock android, and if you generally use the stock rom. If you use custom roms, then this won't be a big deal, as you can flash an updated rom. The motorola razr is the second best choice in my opinion. Motorola phones have relatively low amounts of bloatware and are relatively easy to root compared to other phones like samsung.
hope i helped
Nexus S
you may also like the unique curved body of the galaxy s. it is a show off point, but i don't know if that is important to you.

On the flipside, of course, the Galaxy Nexus is also the phone of choice if you're looking for custom ROMs It already acts as a Nexus (pun intended) and benchmark for developers, since it was the device to have supported ICS the longest. Plus, as the latest Nexus device (until later this year), and destined for official updates from google, one can expect dev interest to continue for quite some time.
better wait for xperia S .... or wait for mwc 2012, there will be alot new phone coming......
I will chose phone that can be giving ics update like xperia 2011 family

It depends how much money u can spend for this phone if i will have "some" cash i will buy phone with TI OMAP5 Cortex-A15 made in 28nm technology its 2 core processor but its much more better then tegra 3 and have good battery life with good performance.

[Q] galaxy nexus or galaxy s2 or htc one?

hey guys,
im looking to buy a phone in the upper mid-range category and im really confused between the s2, nexus and the htc one s. the s2 was my original choice but apart from the sd card and the normal sim slot it is inferior to the htc one s. on the other hand, the nexus may not have the fastest processor of the lot but it does have the advantage of being a google phone and thus has a extremely large developer base. I am keen on getting the one s now but i've managed to confuse myself once again. there have been reports that the one s is unable to maintain its black color when scratched and that the phones have had white marks on them because of the ceramic finish . and the lack of an sd card slot is a huge turnoff plus it only takes micro-sims that make the device even more inflexible...
i am utterly clueless here, i would be really grateful if someone could help...
and btw i am very keen on loading different kernels and custom roms on my device and i will definitely be overclocking, and im looking for a phone that is future proof atleast for 2-3 years...
P.S: this will be my first android device and i want my journey with android to be a pleasant one, so guys, please help me.
and one more thing,
I am not asking which is the best phone of the lot, i am asking which phone will be the best FOR ME! so no fanboy rants and petty quarrels please...!!
I personally prefer the Galaxy Nexus due it being a google phone and yes it does have a HUGE developer base both here and inside google. One of the main advantages is that it offers a pure google android experience, so no carrier bloatware apps or overlays.
While the HTC One S is a more powerful device, it does come with the Sense UI overlay on top of Android 4.0. Some people prefer it, while others don't like it. It all depends on the person. Also, on a side note, there is no real way of completely removing the Sense UI with a new ROM without causing some problems.
The Galaxy S2 is still a good device, but will have the Samsung Touchwiz overlay. Though Touchwiz can be removed without a problem.
Both the S2 and HTC One S will have slower Android upgrades than the Galaxy Nexus, which receives almost immediately when it is available.
Overall, both the HTC One S and the Galaxy Nexus will be future-proof as they are capable of running the future Android OS like Jelly Bean. However, the only difference is that the Nexus will receive the update much earlier than the One S. This is not to say the S2 won't get the update, but it will take some time as well.
Aesthetics wise, all phones are beautifully designed and thin, so no problems there.
Have fun choosing as they are all amazing phones!
thanks for the reply. i really dont mind if the updates come slowly. but if the s2 will get them eventually, i'm gonna go for it. the nexus is extremely dificult to come around in my locality and from how much i am aware of, the only assets that the nexus has, over the s2 is a better screen and a larger developer support since its a google phone. apart form that the s2 is better in all regard. i dont really care about touch wiz or sense. I prefer the stock android UI anyway. since that can be obtained in the s2, im gonna go for it. plus by overclocking im sure one can get scores of 4000+ in quadrant on the s2. so exynos is almost as fast as the snapdragon s2 if not faster...
cool. glad I helped Good luck with the new phone!
GNex
Desire S • Fallout V2.0.0 • xda premium
if the Gnexus is not available i would definately take the SII any day. While the One S has the S4 processor it doesnt have a micro SD so limited to 16GB and no removable battery. SII any day.
Go buy the Nexus. You'll have more fun with it to flash etc ...!
Galaxy Nexus for sure. I went from iPhone to HTC sensation then Evo3D but both played up. Got the Nexus and its the best mobile ive had.

[Q] Better Phone?

Hey guys! Judging by my name you can probably tell I (used) to be a noob. Well times have changed and I'm coming up on 2 years with an extensive knowledge of rooting and whatnot (little rusty on my ADB skills but I'll manage xD). My question is whether I should get the Galaxy S3 or The Galaxy Nexus? Money is not a factor in this. Whats a better daily phone for everyday use? Battery Life? Display? Usability? More importantly which phone is better for flashing roms, overclocking and just general tinkering? I'd love to hear your thoughts
experience doesnt matter its all about post count.
The Galaxy Nexus is comparable to the Galaxy s2, the s3 is a better phone than both. I'd go with the s3 unless you can wait until the next Nexus
IMO the Nexus phones are a blank slate that you can setup yourself, while the galaxy phones have everything done already. That said the s3 has plenty of rom/modding support so just flash it and do your own thing
They both are great phones but as in performance the s3 is better. If you want pure Google then go with the nexus, you won't be disapointed with either phones

[Q] Which device to choose on Verizon?

I looked at some of the similar threads but they are old and devices change so rapidly so I am starting a new one.
I am looking for some thoughts, opinions, etc on a new device. I have to buy my device on Craigslist, eBay or somewhere because I have an old Verizon plan with unlimited data and can't upgrade without losing my plan and paying their upgrade fee.
I have been using a Toro Nexus on Verizon for about a year. I have been running CM10 and making updates as they are released. Recently my phone took a header out of my truck and now the screen is cracked. So, it is probably time to get something more up to date.
A couple things I am looking at evaluating are:
ROMS and development love available for devices. Which ones get the most love?
If I get something unlocked as in straight from Google like the Maguro would I be able to get a radio which works on Verizon?
Cost is a consideraton as well. For example I like the price of the S3 right now compared to the S4 on CL.
Any thoughts, opinions, facts, guidance, etc would be awesome!

the Galaxy nexus is a great phone it saddens me to see that you would like another phone. but im not you so lets get start with phone shopping shall we?
Google
I can see that you like all the rom and development for devices i happy for that!, most of the time you would want one of googles flagship phones that is plain ol stock android (nexus s, galaxy nexus, nexus 4 etc..) googles is so great to us since its stock android its much easyer to flash roms and put other goodies on our phones! i have heard the nexus 4 is one of the best phones around right now (not to mention the new white nexus 4 thats coming out soon with Android 4.3!) so if its on your provider i would recomend that from google!
Samsung
So from what you said you want a phone around the price of a S3, from that right there i would recomend a S3! Samsung does a great job with their phones its not the same stock android like the galaxy nexus they have spiced android up to what they call touchwiz which is a very smooth version for their launchers. a S2 might sound old but even that would be a great phone (i dont know about the specs galaxy neuxs might be a little newer so S3 might be better to get). rooting should be very simple all i had to do for my S2 was to flash a pda file from odin so its again easy to be able to join in on all the development. i think i have heard that the S3 (and maby S2) is getting alot of Goodies from the S4.
LG
i have only had some LG phones and in the past they werent so good but their newest flagship the Optimus G Pro is sposed to be aso good as the HTC one and S4 i dont think LG has their own type of launcher such as samsungs touchwiz, htcs Sense, or motorolas motor blur. so that probably means stock android and pretty easy to root and flash stuff.
HTC
the HTC dream was the first android phone, all of their phones are amazing i have had many of their devices, sense is a very smooth, sense 4.0 and up is sposed to be great. the One and its new blinkfeed feature i have heard can get old within a month or two so im not sure. about rooting with htc phones can be a pain. its different between each phone my droid incredible i had to unlock the bootloader turn s-on off downgrade just to be able to get root and cwm and its all a big pain, htc just dosent want us to screw with it maby. for my htc inspire 4g i had to just only unlock the bootloader and could flash a root from there but still was a pain, so if you can deal with some of the fears of easily bricking your phone you can try these phones!
there are alot of (im just going to call them third party but they arent really) third party phones such as huawei, ZTE, kyocera that some are deff better phones from these people that are better than the galaxy nexus just ask if you would like me to explain them!

Thank you for all the info. Much appreciated. The Galaxy Nexus (Toro) is a wonderful phone. I believe it is the longest running in my pocket. It broke my heart when it took a swan dive out of my truck Sunday. I would absolutely go with another of these. The question on that topic is could a guy get the Maguro to work on Verizon's CDMA network? I don't know that much about the hardware but I'd LOVE to try Ubuntu Touch.
There is a local guy who has an S3 advertised on CL for $175. I'd have to evaluate that guy first though. Would I be as happy with the development on the S3 as I have been on the Toro?

i googled a way for it to work on verizon, dosent look like there is any way unless its unlocked. as for the s3 im sure you will be happy with all the development as much as the toro i have seen the s4 at some networks for $149 with a 2yr.

Phone Comparison Questions

Some background: I currently have Sprint, own a Nexus S 4G (yes, its def showing its age...), loving stock android 4.2.2 (rooted and have rasbeanjelly installed). I hate custom UI's (Touchwiz and Sense, for example), so any phone that's not stock android will be rooted so that I do get stock look. I also will want to be able to root and put on TWRP or CWM and the possibility of a different ROM, so being able to do that is a must... So I will be switching to Verizon in the next few months coming up and now that it seems that all the big boys are out for the year, the biggest question comes out... Which phone?
Ive been reading alot of reviews and articles and such stuff on phonearena.com and have found that the best phones for Verizon right now are the following:
Galaxy S4
HTC One
LG G2
Moto X
Droid Maxx
So that's alot of phones, right? So I decided to come up with a chart with specs and read some more reviews and comparisons to help limit it down a bit and here's what I limited it down to:
Galaxy S4
Moto X
*Note: I have smaller hands, so the G2 didn't appeal to me, regardless of its great reviews. the S4 is cutting it close, but seems the Moto X is most comfortable overall.
Now the comparisons I found on these two are that obviously the S4 is beefier in the hardware dept as far as speed and the screen, but... Touchwiz... Enough said. Because of that, I read that the Moto X runs smoother and quicker. Problem is, I won't be keeping Touchwiz and I am trying to find a comparison between the two phones with the S4 not running Touchwiz on it. Like the Google Edition, for example, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
Anyone have any thoughts, point me somewhere or best of all, hands on experience? As of right now, Im leaning towards the Moto X...
Thanks in advance.
Hooray for the sticky threads right above you!
