Charging wise this is the fastest charging smartphone I've ever owned. And I'm a phone whore. From hero, instinct 1/2, evo, evo3d, hd2, note, and a few others. Anyone else notice

It seems to charge pretty fast from the A/C charger but plugging it in to your Pc seems to take FOREVER.
Mine takes forever charging no matter what. Ive put it on the charger at 50% and it took 3hours ish to get back to 100%. Granted my phone could probably go two days with four hours of on screen time too.
Granted I can't speak for stock because I rooted asap. I mainly use AC 95% too. Not sure if how much root affects it, I'm on synergy (awesome btw).
From the I-killer
mathematically yes. My old droid x charged at a max 750ish mA. The S3 charges at 1000mA
It is just you...
In my case at least.

Charging on AC is really fast for me too. Car charging and PC charging not so much.
GNEX was my fastest charging smartphone...but also had the worst battery life.

I am betting it's because most of us have 1amp or 2.1 amp chargers available in the car. I, personally, still use the motorola 950mAh car charger, which speeds thru the charging process too.
USB still pumps out 500 mAh at best, always gonna be slow.
None of this has to do with the phone, btw.
Slow charging for me. But its random. Sometimes its decently quick but other times it takes forever to charge. Fastest phone to charge for me was the OG droid.

There is a thing in the charging port that only the samsung charger activated that allows charing upwards of 1000 when using normal micro usb only does 300.
If you download imosyens leankernal he developed it into the kernal that you go to terminal editor and put "ffc"and charger will go as fast as thr samsung one.

Lol I'm the opposite. Coming from a Galaxy Nexus this phone charges much slower. Galaxy Nexus would be fully charged in maybe an hour and a half. With the GS3 it's closer to 3 hours for a full charge. Hear it's the low-power brick that comes with it though.

Yep. For example, the Motorola SPN5400A will charge the S3 in about 1\2 to 1\3 the time it would take if plugged into a USB port. I honestly believe it's because it has quality internal circuitry. Hell, at .95 mAh it charges quicker than most 2.1mAh chargers. Again, has nothing to do with the phones, it's the chargers that come with.
mine charges pretty quick as well. best phone ive had hands down.

3 hrs seems off. I think I could wire mine to my electric razor and charge it faster
From the I-killer
Just for info, my wireless energizer pad and Verizon wireless door charge faster than the factory charger. And my factory charger will charge between 1.5 and 2 hours from 3% or 4%.
If you are taking over 2 hours I would check the battery and make sure it isn't swollen or something wrong with it. As far as usb most ports are "as stated above" not going to supply juice fast enough to charge quickly.
And it's probably worth seeing if something is on thats sucking power, Bluetooth, gps, facebook, anything that sync's alot. And using almost as much power as the usb is putting out.

This question has been asked before but no one can answer it odd.
Nexus 7 charger is two amps. Stock s3 charger is one amp.
Can I charge my s3 without damaging it using the other charger. People say it charges faster. Some people say it doesn't matter because the kernel will limit it.
Whats the real deal?

There are a lot of variables as to what the maximum charge current will be. I've never seen it go over .8 amp. So if you use a 1 amp, or a 20 amp charger, it will be .8 amp. MAX. Usually less.
Use whatever you have handy that is 5 volts.
I actually use an old 5 volt .6 amp charger for overnight charging. A bit slow, but I don't care.
I have a home grown charger on my motorcycle that can go well over 1 amp, but the phone only has ever gone to about .8 amp. For a long time I had that charger set to 5.5 volts, and the current was up a bit closer to 1 amp. But the heat worried me and I bumped it back down to 5 volts.

You realize you're using a 10v charger on a 5v device right? That can toast your battery over time, a short time too depending on if you leave it plugged into it over night, etc..
Samsung offers two wireless charging pads. One is mini and the other is standard size. Is it just the size that is the difference? Does one charge faster than the other?

Where did you get that info from? In the description of the mini one it clearly states is comes with a 2A charger!
My understanding is that the mini is a new model released with the S5 whereas the other has been around for at least a year now.
Even if it comes with a 2A charger it only charges at 1amp. It's a limitation of wireless charging

The S5 has more than 2 points of contact for the wireless charging back. Not sure if it is for nfc, but maybe the doubled the charging capabilities by having two separate charging coils?
Edit: This is my first post is 5 years, I feel like a lurker.
The power of pad doesn't matter, the coil from the back of the case is the charging source. So for s4 note 3 it's 650 mamps and the new one for s5 is 700 mamps( if i spoted right in the pictures). The difference is in aspect and size only.

Are they up to 1A now? Last I checked, there wasn't a wireless charger anywhere that charged faster than 850mAh. Which is only 30% as fast as the USB 3.0 charging of 2500mAh.

Get them while they last!!
I have three wireless chargers. The small original Samsung, one Nillkin and a noname. I am using the original charging back from Samsung. I am very happy with the small original Samsung charger. The S5 gets much less warm than with the both others and it stops charging at 100%.
I had it on the Nillkin over night and the next day when it has been at nearly 100% already in the evening it was extrem hot at the morning and still charging but it showed 100% but not the full message at all. Very suspicious. With the noname I very often have the wireless charging detected message when it comes over 9x% so it looks as if the charger often "looses the connection" to the wireless charging back cover.
The original small Samsung charger says 5,3V and 2A on the back and it loads at maximum wireless power with the original back cover and the original power supply. For me this is the best combination. The only thing is, that you cannot use the S5 very well while charging because of the small charging pad. I most time take the charging pad with the S5 in one hand so it cannot tilt.

solution? get a new charger or usb chord, as one of them is defective. and there are many with the same problem, until they replace their chargers/chords. no, its not 444.
When you are charging the phone does it show Charging (AC) or Charging (USB) in the power menu (tap on the battery in the quick settings pulldown)?

Well, you may be able to get a faster charger but the key difference is the batteries. The iPhone 5 has a 1440mAh battery while the Nexus 5 has a 2300mAh battery. The Nexus 5 battery has more than 50% more capacity than the iPhone 5. So if the Nexus 5 is taking 50% longer to charge then it's charging at the same rate as your iPhone.
Check out some fast chargers. Some of them I can recommend.

ERD Mobile charger USB LP-27TC

The charging current is not relevent, the phone will draw what it needs up to it's maximum rating of the device or power source, current is not "pushed" into a device... Doesn't matter if you have a power supply capable of delivering 500ma or 5000A, as long as it meets the industry standard specs the current rating doesn't matter.

I know the current is not pushed. The stock charger is rated at 1.150A, but the device gets charged much faster with my 1.5A charger from nexus 7. .My understanding is that if the device can't take in 2A, there is no need for a 2A charger. Similarly if it is capable of taking 2A current but the charger has a max rating of 1.5A, it's charged at 1.5A. Both the device and the charger should support it. Now what I'm asking is if the moto g3 is capable of taking in 2A. If it is I'll get a 2A charger.
