Since upgrading to 5.1.1, Google Play Music keeps mobile radio active even after I stop listening to streaming music. About an hour after I stop the music and exit from the app, I get a warning from Stamina Mode indicating that GPM is preventing the phone from sleeping. When I check the usage statistics, it shows that GPM is the biggest drain on my battery. The only way to stop this is to force close the app from the app manager, but then it starts again the moment I try to use it (which is daily).
Does anyone else have this issue, or at least know how to prevent GPM from keeping mobile radio active when not in use?
Problem solved. There was a bug preventing the phone from sleeping when WiFi was enabled. Changed the advanced WiFi setting to stay active only when plugged in and now the phone sleeps properly and Google music behaves as it should.

When I play music on my Nexus 5, the battery seems to drain just as fast as screen on. Music shouldn't drain this much battery. It shows as always awake through the time that it plays music, which I don't remember seeing on other devices. I heard the DSP tunneling was supposed to help save battery while listening to music so I really don't know whats going on here. Is anyone else having these problems?
All depends what player you are using? I use Rocket Player with Viper sound and I can go over 12 hours with the super high definition driver. As with any device, everyone will have a different experience depending on how their device if configured.
Default Play Music app uses very little battery for me.
Playing music with Google play music locally has drained 10% in about 20 minutes for me. Its unbelievable

My newest config uses about 6% per hour when playing music. Happy with it now.
In your battery stats does it show as awake during the time you are playing music? My CPU seems to be running hot while music is playing

I've noticed the same issue recently. Drained 25% battery in ~45 mins if music playing. Battery stats show the device as awake for the entire time.
Thought it might just have been because I was using a 3rd party media player (PowerAmp), but it did the same thing using Play Music (playing only tracks on device).
This is 100% stock?

Not really, now on stock 4.4.2 with TWRP recovery, root and a couple of Xposed modules active.
I have a couple of ideas for narrowing it down -
1st suspect is Last.fm scrobbling so I'll give it a couple of runs with & without that going and see if there's any consistent pattern there.
Then probably disable Gravity Box (pretty sure none of my other Xposed modules interfere with sound processing in any way).
Will update if I find something.

Other people have reported various games leaving wakelocks open (keeping the device awake), also a bad media file can cause Mediaserver problems (this can show up as very high Mediaserver usage on Settings->Battery):

Well, uninstalling Last.fm and Gravity Box didn't work, still consistently awake whilst playing music.
All the solid blocks in the awake time where the screen is of are where music is playing, interesting that Play Music has so little CPU time, but is keeping awake so much. Media server isn't responsible for much wake time.

Pretty sure it's not a game, I had launched any games since my last reboot. Didn't see any processes or services running that might be related. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out when I get a chance.
I love to track my activities with Endomondo sports tracker, however it seems to always run in the background. I always disable gps and exit the app after using, but my phone battery stats are constantly showing that it uses most of the battery. I haven't used Endomondo since last charge and gps has been off. Is this common with all the fitness applications or just this?? Is there a way to prevent the app from running in background (without uninstalling)?

Literally the SECOND i turn my screen off, its almost instant my music stops playing.
This only happens with streaming services such as Spotify or soundcloud, so it is likely to be a wifi setting right?
I don't have Stamina turned on. I do however have Greenify and Amplify installed.
I have also created a tasker profile, using the musictrack variable to keep wifi on when a song is playing, but it hasn't worked.
Has anyone experienced this?

What I'm assuming is causing the problem (since you don't have stamina mode on) is Amplify. Try some troubleshooting and disable Amplify in Xposed, reboot, and test again. If that's the cause there MAY be a way to exclude your music app or WiFi in Amplify but it's been a while since I've used it.
If that's not it, I would use process of elimination like you did with Amplify with any other apps (like Greenify) by freezing them with Titanium Backup or a similar app.
I found a solution to the problem and it was indeed Amplify.
I recently had to restore my phone via TWRP and i had obiously limited the "audiomix" feature which is known to cause this issue at the time of the backup.
I did try to delete this post, but there is no option to

doesnt audiomix drain your battery?
So since I Updated to the s8 plus I have not been able to stream my usual local radio app kokefm or online streamimg websites for more than 5 Minutes when the decice is locked. After 5 minutes the stream pauses, and when I unlock the phone the stream resumes. I have checked to make sure background data is enabled for the apps, and no power saving is on. Anyone else having this issue?
I figured out how to fix it if anyone else has this problem.
Go to settings > device maintenance > battery. Then click on battery usage then the three dots on the top right and go to optimize battery usage. There you can change to all apps and turn off optimization for whatever apps are not streaming in the background. Seems kinda redundant since I already had the apps in the not monitored list and allowed background network data... atleast it's working now.
Android 7 has a feature called "Doze" that will make most apps go into a suspended state after the device is idle for a while. This is possibly what's making your music app stop. If your app has a Stay Awake function, you may want to enable it and just turn the screen brightness down instead of off.
I think the problem in settings, that's all... Do you use Spotify? It has become so popular because it gives users what they want. The user can stream music from any Android device. Having over 75 million users, Spotify is the most popular among them. What is the reason behind its popularity and how much does it cost to build an app like Spotify?
Hi all,
I have a Pixel 4a with stock Android 11 (up to date, no root, with Nova Launcher).
I have a rowing machine that comes with an app (ErgData, by concept2) that can connect to the machine via bluetooth or via usb cable: while rowing the app logs the workout data (like pace, heart rate etc).
I wanted to do the following: watch a video while the ErgData app logs my workout, so I started ErgData, connected it to the rower, configured the workout and, once ready to start rowing, I switch to the video player and start rowing.
It worked fine a bunch of times, but one day it stopped working: at the end of the workout (like after 20-30min), when I switch back to ErgData the app is in its default screen (like the one you get at startup) and it has logged nothing. When connecting via bluetooth, the app has also lost the connection to the rower. When connecting via usb the connection is there but the app has still logged nothing.
Things I've done:
disable battery optimization for ErgData, Bluetooth and Bluetooth MIDI
disable adaptive battery
use a different media player (android built-in, VLC)
uninstall / reinstall ErgData
clear Bluetooth storage/cache
disabled "Suspend Execution for Cached App" (developer mode)
No joy.
I tried a different app (ErgZone) and it has the same behavior.
I tried staying with ErgZone foreground for 3min before switching to the video player and in that case, ErgZone logged something, but not the totality of the workout.
So it really seems that somehow, when I switch to the video player, ErgData / ErgZone gets "paused" (killed ? cached ?).
Anything I can try ? Anything the app developers should do to prevent this ?
Thanks !
Sorry for the late response, I normally dont browse this forum. I am rooted and always have been, so all the solution I have used in the past are dependent on root. However, one idea to try is checking if the background app is killed while the phone is plugged into a charger? I know that being plugged in keeps the phone awake even when the screen is off.

Does the ErgData/Zone app start a persistent notification when recording? That's the way to keep a service running in the background. I had a phone with a tendency to kill anything not in the foreground, but it never killed active apps (including background with persistent notification).
If the app dies despite this, there may be a hint in the logcat. You have to enable developer mode to fetch that.

No, ErgData/ErgZone do not have a persistent notification. Guess that's a potential solution then.
At the moment my workaround is to use the "pop-up" feature of VLC so that I have the video on top of the other app (ErgData/ErgZone), so that the other app stays foreground. That works, but it's not a real solution.
Hmm they gave me a beta version of the app with the persistent notification thingy and it works perfectly.
