Hi guys, I require some help here to fix and update the 1+1.
List of issues :
1. Unable to update (currently on CynogenMod 11.0-XNPH22R. Android 4.4.2 Kitkat), the update is available but wont install, takes me to the recovery and am not sure how to proceed. If I update does it mean the whole phone will be wiped?
2. Sim card is no longer recognized (out of a sudden), read some place where some users were got it fixed by an update to squash the bug by One plus support and team viewer.
Questions :
1. How do I perform a complete back up? (phone is probably not rooted) my Google account is synced but I have no idea what is covered.
2. How to root if I need to without bricking it?
3. Can I install / flash the latest update or do I have to do it incrementally?
4. Now that One Plus parted with CynogenMod and came up with H20, which do I go for? Kindly do give me a summary as to the pros and cons of both or your thoughts about it.
5. Err, how do I flash the latest update? Is there a step by step manual?
I apologize in advance if my questions have already been answered in previous posts and also thank those whom will be kind enough to help a noob out like me here.
Attached was what i saw when trying to update to 36R.

1. You can't make a full backup without a custom recovery and root. In order to install a custom recovery you'd need an unlocked bootloader. If you're bootloader isn't already unlocked you can unlock it but doing so will wipe all of your data.
2. Have you not looked around this forum before posting this? There are guides available, and very easy to find. This is mine
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2839471
3. You can install the latest update with the stock recovery that you have installed currently. You can get the update here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347761631
Simply put it on your phone, boot into recovery, and use the "apply update" option to install it. If you're not sure how to manually get into recovery, here's how. Hold power to turn the phone off. Hold volume down, then hold power (so you're holding them together), when you see the OnePlus boot logo let go of power but keep holding volume down until you reach recovery.
4. Use Google and you'll find your answer, there are plenty of resources online discussing this already. The first rule of XDA is to search before posting, reducing the need for redundant questions like this one.
5. Already answered this in point 3.
Honestly, all of these questions that you've asked have all been asked and answered before, did you search at all before creating this thread?

Hi, first and foremost, allow me to extend my gratitude despite my serious ignorance of the 1st Rule.
I did come across some posts but didnt really pay much attention to it as it seems this was a combination of issues and some things may even have changed since then. However yes, i understand that it is no defense and for that I apologize.
I will look into your reply.
I have this question (despite reading how you will probably not side any ROM as to respect the devs)
In your opinion Is CM12 or Oxygen OS stable? I saw that there were 300 pages of complaints (CM12) and quite a number of complaints for Oxygen OS too. I am really torn between them.

I don't really use either of those ROMs so I can't really comment on them. I used both for a very short period of time though, and both seemed stable. Honestly, most bugs that people experience are the result of their own doing. The only way you'll know which one you like is by testing them yourself.

I'm seeing a lot of confusion on the forums about the Nextbook Big Lots released on Black Friday so I see it worth making a thread over.
This Nextbook does *not* use the Rockchip RK2918. If you look at the build info and do a little research (http://yifang.en.made-in-china.com/...-4-0-Tablet-with-Amlogic-8726-M3-M805MC-.html) it's got an Amlogic 8726-M3 under the hood. That's the M3 chip people keep mentioning here.
I have gathered much information on this 'new' Nextbook and posted it here. I have found what I think to be a jtag mode where, as people described, "M3-Chip" shows up in device manager. That forum thread has an Android System Info dump posted and for the sake of space I won't be reposting it here so go there and check it out. I only omitted non-relevant personal info and replaced with a [Removed] tag.
I would really like to see some genius minds at work getting this tablet rooted and the 'ROM Train' chugging. I have donated my talents of information gathering. I'm calling for someone to pick up the torch and work it from here. I've noticed at least two people that said they bought at least 3 of these so maybe someone can work with someone on donating a device to a cause and XDA can add another 'rooted knotch' to it's seemingly infinitely long belt'
---
[Update]
Here is the chip MFG's original source code to include kernel and all the toppings. This should be good starter info: http://openlinux.amlogic.com/wiki/index.php/Arm/Platform_Info/Information_for_8726M/Build_system_for_8726M_Howto. Also I've brought Slatedroid in the loop on this one so hopefully we can get the ball moving quickly.
What's up...just got one of these as well and of course like other people I was surprised to find out this wasn't rk29 as I was super ready to root this thing...I have absolutely no idea if this will help any and you may have already come across this site but it seems that the admin here (finless) knows how to work with these devices.
I don't know if that would go for this particular version with the m3 chip but anybody else who can get this rooted would be of great help. I wish I knew how to do it myself because I would but I'm only good for graphics...glad I came across this thread and to see you gathering much needed info, I'll stay tuned and if I stumble across anything that can help I'll be sure to post it here.
I have one of these units as well and would like to get it rooted. Just chiming in.

Thanks for the info! I have made some progress. Here's a thread on Slatedroid that has the M3-Chip driver and low level flash utility: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/39037-amlogic-low-level-flashing-tool/
I am tinkering with it a little but I'd encourage someone smarter than I to have a look at it as well in case I fail. To get the tablet in the proper mode do vol up + plug in usb with device powered down. I'll go ahead and attach related files here for convenience. You will need to disable driver verification to get the driver installed.
My first attempt I think I might have bricked the tablet. I'll give more info as I get it.
Yeah I fu-barred it. Anyone with experience w/ AmlogicBurningTool -or- someone who can extract the firmware so I can flash; I think I wiped my device tinkering with this utility. Any help would be appreciated as I'm dead in the water until I get the device bootable again.
[Update] I contacted Nextbook on this issue. The sup seemed pretty pissed when I let him know what I was attempting to do but for being forthcoming he agreed to see about getting me the original firmware zip file. As per usual I will update should I get any info.
Nice job! Thanks for all the work on this. I've got one I'm willing to hack on too. Not sure how to get the firmware off of it but I'm willing to try anything. I've been looking around and I supposed I'd need to run the burning tool with the device in IPL (not sure if that's what it's called) to take the firmware off? Let me know how I can help.
I'm on a thread now with Finless on FreakTab and he said he can build a rom for us to get root...he just needs the stock rom to work with...I'm waiting on some type of instructions in case I need to take it from my tab and give to him.
Maybe this could be the break we're looking for.

I sure hope so.........this stock rom sucks! I've been trying to mess around with it and install some apps from SDcard but having absolutely no luck. Now mine wont even boot. Going to have to reset to out of box.

That would be awesome. My folks are getting me a Google Nexus 10 for Christmas. If I can get this one working I might be tempted to spend that money on something else. I feel really really dumb for wiping the NAND just because it was in Chinese and I clicked a random button. I thought surely it'd give some sort of popup warning to alert me I'm being an idiot first. But it happily wiped the thing no questions asked. So, when we get to the point of flashing a firmware in; If we have to use the low level flash tool be really freakin sure you got it in English and you read the instructions thoroughly before flashing. It's not normally like me to do something that dumb but I've not been getting good sleep and I've been in a real big rush to get this project done.
Lesson of the day:
So no one has been able to install google play on it so far ?

That would require root access which has not yet been obtained. Once someone successfully roots it, installing market will be easy. Stay tuned.
No go on a ROM from TS
I opened a ticket with tech support to try to get the ROM from this thing and they said it's not available to consumers... I figured I'd get some response like that but just thought I'd give it a shot. +1 for a customer "needing" the ROM on their end.
So your tab is still not booting mascondante?!?

nope after i wiped the nand it fails at the first phase of flashing
Still haven't heard back from Netbook.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
Still hoping someone will root this thing and make a decent ROM. Please?
My Ramos W13Pro AMlogic was pre-rooted in a way. I was able to ADB to it and type su and got the # prompt back.
What we need for sure is uImage dump (boot.img is the same). This will give us the kernel and boot which is the most important part!
Get Android Terminal Emulator. Run it and at the $ prompt type su
If it returns with # it means you have root access.
If you do not get # it is not pre rooted. However you can do this command without root I think
cat /proc/mtd
This will show the mounted blocks. We need to dump those to SDcard using DD command.
Bob
Nextbook ADB access
Bob, I've been lurking for a while on XDA and on your own Freaktab site trying to get this Nextbook 8p12 / 8SE with amlogic chip rooted as a christmas present for my son. I've managed to get the market and google services framework installed on the thing but they force close due to other necessary files missing. I saw your post above and jumped right into ADB on this thing, but got a permission denied error on the DD command trying to copy the bootloader. Any suggestions? Many thanks!
We may have a breakthrough over at freaktab.com!
Stay tuned...

Hello world! This is not my first run with android (by far) but it is the first time something like this "security patch " has come out.
I have a rooted N5 and im running 6.0 build MRA58K and continue to get prompted to install a security update.
My question is, is it safe to install this update, will i lose root or have to reroot? If i "unroot" the system with supersu and then install it after, would that work too? Also i would like to update my kernel to the newest version. Im running blu_spark build #30. Would i just reflash the kernel or do i have to jump through hoops by reflashing the rom first? I dont remember how it works
Thanks

Take a moment to learn how to properly flash a Nexus. You will forget toolkits very soon... You should also take a peek at kernel threads and SuperSU.
Learn and flash instead of flash and fix
NRT just does all of the fastboot commands for me instead of having to copypaste address locations by hand. However something did go wrong when i flashed supersu while booted into the wrong recovery (apparently i was in the temp one). So now im stuck with a boot loop, i guess i will have to reflash everything, its not a big deal. all backups have been made.
Ive been doing this a very long time

Toolkits do "everything" for you and it doesn't help users to think for themselves.
I ask because i never know what kind of godamn changes happen between android versions.
Sometimes A LOT OF THINGS CHANGE which would make a previous known method of doing x not work.
I had to manually install TWRP, but its all done.

Well, I don't know about Primokorn, but personally I wouldn't take kindly to anyone calling me "a$$face" - not the ideal way to make friends in a community where you're asking for help...
Primokorn makes a perfectly valid point. If you read up on the changes, as most of us appear to do, you would not have to rely on Wugfresh keeping NRT up to date.
Primokorn 8,606 posts Thanks Meter: 5,059
0xicl33n 50 posts Thanks Meter: 17
Show a bit of respect for experience...
So you make a thread asking for help, then you carry on like this...when help and guidance is given. Next time just say thank you and leave it as that, or better yet do more reading than posting. And consider this your warning, and the only one I will give, now that you have resolved your issue, you can read the Forum Rules on conduct/posting.

You flash this at your own risk. Please ensure you have the stock ROM to hand downloaded from SAMMOBILE in case of problems. This will trip the knox counter.
Instructions:
Put your device in DOWNLOAD mode.
Flash with ODIN 3.10.7 in the AP slot.
Uncheck Auto reboot.
Load the respective file below into the AP slot and hit start.
After flashing immediately reboot to recovery by holding POWER + HOME + VOL DOWN.
As soon as the screen goes blank change to VOL UP whilst still holding the other buttons.
You should now see TWRP recovery.

NOTE ON ROOTING WITH TWRP:
If you have kingroot installed remove this before rooting with SuperSU above or you will have issues.
Kingroot attempts to block Supersu so must be removed first by using the uninstaller in the Kingroot superuser app.
Absolutely NO feedback
Out of literally hundreds of people that have downloaded and benefitted from the files I've posted NOT ONE person has left ANY feedback whatsoever and only 5 have hit the thanks button and 2 very generous people have offered donations to whom I am very thankful.
As developers we need encouragement and ALL we ask is a quick click on the thanks button and a little feedback.
It's not too much to ask is it for hours of work on a device we don't even own?
XDA is a 2 way community, it's GIVE and TAKE not just TAKE.
Due to this I have decided I am not going to update the builds to the new TWRP v3.0.0-0.
Thank you.

Come on people. It is not asking to much to thank someone for giving us what we need to make our tablets much better. Over in the T-Mobile S6 thread we have the same issues. These devs do this for us in their spare time for free, so showing a little appreciation is not asking a lot.
Hi, sorry for the late reaction. I succesfully installed your custom recovery but than i had trouble with SD card, it wouldn't get locked in the slot so i couldn't try the backup and restore funtions.
Now SD problem is fixed but when i boot into recovery i get stock, TWRP is gone so first chance i get i'll try to flash it again (don't have a PC available right now).
It would be a shame if you would stop working on our device, you gave us a very important tool for witch i would like to thank you.
You don't need a pc. Extract the recovery.img from the .tar file and then flash with flashify.

I want to thank @ashyx for getting Root &TWRP for the Tab E. I bought my SM-T560NU one week ago today. The first thing I did when I got home was to search for Root & Recovery and I found this thread. Everything flashed fine for me. Without devs like @ashyx on XDA we would be stuck with ordinary Tablets & Phones. So make sure to hit the thanks button and post feedback to let them know if things are working or not. It's not that hard to do.

+1, I haven't tried it yet on my wife's SM-T560NU 'coz my wife always have the tablet with her. She wouldn't even let me get close to it since I screwed up her phone. I will report ASAP when I get a chance to steal the tablet and root it (hopefully successful).
Thanks to @ashyx in advance and to guys reporting back on their experience. Please keep the thread alive.
Thanks for the feedback guys.

Are you attempting to flash the stock rom with twrp? As far as Im aware there is no custom rom for this device?
I apologize for the stupid question here, but if I am just wanting to do root do i have to flash twrp_2.8.7.0_sm-t560nu.tar first? Or can I just flash the root file

If you're talking about this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3300291
Then you don't need to install twrp.
However installing custom recovery and making a backup is one of the best mods you can do to your device.

When I got my Sm-t560nu last week the first thing I did was flash the TWRP 2.8.7.0 tar in ODIN, then I flashed the chainfire su file in ODIN to root it and everything went fine for me. After that I made a backup just like @ashyx suggested.
Ok thank you so much for all your help!! I did the root part successfully which is what I wanted. I don't understand the purpose of doing the twrp

I saw this question somewhere else but didn't see an answer - rumor that the Atom will have a Walkie-Talkie feature? And what the range would be? I assume if it is not using cellular the range would be fairly short - probably half mile or less but still would consider it a very neat feature.
I've seen some Apps that claim to use Wifi to directly talk to another phone with the same App on Wifi but never had much luck with that when I tried it. Range would likely be limited to a hundred feet or so.

Considering how the Atom has some fairly high end specs (Octa core, 4GB Ram, 64GB ROM) it would be nice to have a subforum for Unihertz.

I haven't seen anything about that.
Walkie-talkie (s) can have a range of 2 maybe 5 miles without requiring a license (USA) then up to 10 miles.

Hi,
I just received my ATOM via KickStarter!
It's done very well, comfortably fit in my hands. If I could make it rooted, I would play more..
Got mine yesterday, haven't set it up yet.

Try:
1. Extract Atom's boot.img using SP Flash Tool.
2. Copy the extracted boot.img to an android device.
3. Install Magisk Manager (apk) to the same android device.
4. Patch the boot.img using Magisk Manager.
5. Flash the patched boot.img to Atom using SP Flash Tool.
I thought the SP flash tool needed root access to run? I don't have root yet.
I have the atom, adb/flashboot working, I can unlock and lock the bootloader - I just need either a custom recovery for it or the ability to download the stock recovery/os images.

No, you don't need root to use SP Flash Tool.
You can extract an entire ROM with it. No need to wait for anyone to give you the stock recovery or boot.

Bricked
I tried to flash a "generic" MTK TWRP recovery.
Booting with Volume-Down didn't boot into TWRP but into normal "Factory-Mode".
Android started normally, after a while tried to reset to factory settings (vie Andoroid-Settings).
It rebooted and went dark.
Nothing happens any more, I can press any buttons (or combination of buttons), even for a very long time, but it stays "off".
Anybody has any ideas?

Use SP Flash tool to flash back the stock rom you had backed up before you flashed the custom recovery.
Anybody has a stock rom?

I tried to get the stock rom from the phone (before I bricked it): I tried for about 5 hours to get MTK Droid Tools to recognize my phone. But it stubbornly will not find the device. I tried multiple VCOM- and USB-Drivers, even installed PdaNet for the drivers, used a freshly set up Windows 10 for each try, but I didn't succeed. -> ADB & Fastboot of MinimalADB worked just fine.
So I was very frustrated and justed hoped that all will be good. But, suprise, not all was good...
So has anybody a stock rom for me?

Doesn't look like Official firmware has been released yet.
Should be able at https://www.unihertz.com/bbs/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=44 hopefully soon.

Ask Unihertz. They sure have one and they gave stock rom to Jelly users who bricked their jellies. Just ask.
I've got a brand new Motorola Moto G7 Power running Android 9.
I also have Ubuntu 19.04 running on my desktop.
I want to root the phone.
I've managed to unlock the bootloader using Motorola's online instructions and the adb and fastboot utilities that come with Linux.
The next step is to flash a custom recovery application on the recovery partition.
I'm trying to flash twrp-3.3.0-0-river.img, a new image that I grabbed from here.
When I tried to use fastboot to flash the image, I got this error:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
After this failed attempt, I attempted to put my phone into recovery just to see what would happen.
What I got was a screen displaying the Android mascot on its back with its chest plate opened and a black exclamation point inside a red triangle.
The words "No Command" were displayed underneath the graphic.
After waiting a few minutes, the phone, on its own, booted normally.
My phone's OS seems to operate perfectly fine.
I can only surmise that whatever was originally on my recovery partition from the manufacturer has been wiped and there is now nothing on the recovery partition at all.
So, I decided to see if I could boot into the TWRP image directly without flashing it.
So, I ran this in the terminal window: fastboot boot twrp-3.3.0-0-river.img
I received this as a response:
There didn't seem to be any errors.
The phone, however, switched from the bootloader screen to the Motorola splash screen, and then just shut off with no further response.
So, what am I missing?
How can I flash this image onto the recovery partition of my phone?
this is normal
this is normal between recovery and when it looks like that android doll click on the button off and on the volume button up together and release the volume button and soon after releasing the power button and will appear the recovery stock
I'm exactly where you are my friend. Have you found any solutions, though?
Also, when my phone boots up it shows "bad key" and it seems to take a little longer to boot, but everything runs fine once it does.
I can only assume that these TWRP files don't work on this device/model. Thing is, I don't even wanna run a custom ROM, I just want to make a simple change to a root file to get the cast feature working on any smart TV, as Motorola has it disabled by default. I've tried patching the boot.img file using magisk, but when I try to flash it on to the cell phone I run into an error. I guess we're gonna have to wait until the official TWRP version comes out for this device. But if you find any other solution, please, do let me know. Thanks!
Guys next time please actually search for how to root the device you own. Or at the very least go to the GUIDES forum that is on the G7 Power page you had to go through to post this thread. The TWRP image you have is extremely alpha, which is why it's stuck in the Telegram group and not yet posted here on XDA.
Typically I'd tell you to use the search function but I'm honestly worried that you're going to brick your phone by randomly flashing things you haven't researched, to do things you don't understand, and to access features you don't know how to use. Recovery has had close to the same button combination for years (either holding volume up or down and power).
Because I'm scared you'll actually make your device a heavy paperweight here's the link, but please in the future research more. You are after all making system level changes that could destroy your device if done wrong or the wrong file is used. Not trying to attack you, just stating the truth.

Hey guys, just a piece of advice. Please read everything and research everything related to your device and everything related to the procedures you want to execute. After you gather all that info/knowledge then proceed to execute what you have learn. And please verify every single file be sure is targeted to your specific device if it's not DO NOT FLASH IT you will end with "pretty fancy paperweight" that means a damage permanently broken device.
Lately there has been a crowd of "New Blood" coming registering to the forum and most of them are not reading or following instructions. Please ask old/experienced members we are here willing to help new members in all we can, but first try to use the search function and be sure about what I stated in the first paragraph then you have the second option our support. Welcome to the family and happy flashing.

Exactly. I don't mind new members coming in at all, and am happy to help when I can, but you need the right mindset if you're going to make changes to the actual system files of a relatively expensive device. New members please be ready and willing to search every time you have a question and have the patience to spend the time needed to fully grasp the procedures, and imo not just how to do what you are trying to do but to also understand what happens to which files when you do it and why those changes have to be made. If you are willing to spend the time to learn and understand these things you can greatly increase your enjoyment with your device. If you aren't you will eventually mess something up you can't fix and will then either be willing to spend the time you need or will completely walk away from the modding community.
Welcome to XDA. If you cant find the answer after searching feel free to ask questions and the community will help you out.
