Can't update Chrome? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The latest update keeps giving me error 504 from the play store which I've googled and done the things suggested for the error. Wipe cache and data of play store. Remove Google account and log it back in. But still nothing so i manually downloaded from apk mirror and even that way says not installed when trying to update.
Any one have any ideas?

I know its not exactly a solution but I uninstalled Chrome using Titanium backup and reinstalled from playstore and it updates perfectly well.

Will it lose all its data (password saves) etc doing this?

I don't think so because they are saved to Google server and linked to your gmail. So you will get back on signing in.
Also if you want you can backup using Tbk then reinstall and restore data only.
Hopefully that will serve your purpose. [emoji111]

Try logging into the account from a PC and click install from there. Sometimes it clears the error and triggers the update when you sync back up with your phone.

It shouldn't, the data is usually saved outside the application folder.
To be safe you can use Titanium Backup.

Seems weird because you'd think manually downloading and installing would work still

I faced the same issue again and I simply turned off the merge tabs option and it updated flawlessly.
I know it is not related and might just be a coincidence.
But worth giving it a shot.

Ok here's what i ended up doing.
Backed up app and data (ended up using ultimate backup app)
Root uninstalled. Rebooted. Re installed from the play store. It did lose saved info data. So restored data only from the backup and all is now fine.
Thanks for your help everyone!

(Q) Auto install of apps

Hi guys, quick question,
When I was still on stock rom I noticed my tablet would reinstall the apps I had previously downloaded as soon as I logged in. I just rooted and flashed a custom rom and it seem I have lost this ability. I have CMW on the thing. Any idea what I need to do? Manually re-installing everything as the nightlies comes in is getting a bit old.
thanks

if you're using the same google account it should restore.
During the initial setup it will ask if you want to restore from the Google account.

Thank you for your reply. I used the same google account, and I clicked the square saying I wanted a restore, but apps did not download. When looked on the google play, my tf101 did not appear. Weird.
How many devices appear in your Google Play list when you sign in online? There's a limit to the number of installs you can have for paid apps (5 I think..?). Try deleting unused devices, on unused instances of devices.

Impossible to download files using any web browser :/

Every single time I try to download a file from a file sharing service like radidshare, upload.net they stop pretty much instantly, after reaching around 3% of the download, it doesn't matter if I'm using chrome, firefox, boat browser :crying:
I had the same issue on my Nexus 4 and back then I read it was because I also had firefox installed, but I only had Chrome installed , anyone else with this issue? :crying:
I have that same issue with T-Mobile. I downloaded a download manager like ADM to continue with the downloads.

I had that issue, downloads just failed with stock browser and gave me the error below with FireFox... flashed back to the stock img from Google and no more problems.

open the main phone settings, apps, all, download manager, then clear the app data for the download manager and try downloading again.

Can anyone please give any tips or how do I roll back to old version of os? Is there a way to reset the phone without losing my pictures and videos?
If you don't want to fix the issue, just follow the flash stock guide found in my signature.

Instead of flashing stock how can I fix it?

It's not so much a fix as it is troubleshooting.
The first thing to try if something is broken after an upgrade is to factory reset the data. That could rule out an OS issue. Of course you must backup apparatus wtc first (unrooted users use helium) then copy sdcard data to PC.

Factory reset the phone.. Still the same issue. The website used to work before the update but doesn't anymore on tmobiles network.. What could it be.. I tried all the browsers

Could also be specific to the radio. You could try going back to just the old radio,

Lollipop update issues

I updated to lollipop recently and some of the google apps stopped working - they couldn't connect to Google.
So after a while I don't know where I read this, I tried clearing the data on my play services app and the framework. After that I removed my account and added it again. Only this time, ALL of my google apps stopped connecting (play store, hangouts, google now, contacts etc.)
I'm signed into my account but nothing seems to be working. The rest of my apps are completely normal.
If anyone can help me about this I'd highly appreciate it. Thank you
Edit: I used the OTA update. I tried using a different version of the play services app but that also didn't help.

Wasn't able to add picture during edit.
This is the gmail image.
I'm getting a sync error as well

May try reflashing factory image and start from beginning.
Else try flashing system.IMG to see if it fixes the problem.
Make necessary backup before u try any options
Won't flashing erase all the data? Is there a way to avoid that?

Yes, don`t erase and flash userdata.img. Flashing system.img will not wipe the device.
Okay this is weird... Everything started syncing again when I started using the WiFi. But as soon as I get back to mobile data, I get the sync error again

Did you pay your data plan this month? While just connected to mobile data, can you open google dot com on a browser?
a maguro wrote this.
Yes its paid for. Its a prepaid connection. Plus all sites and apps other than the google ones are connecting using mobile data
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Easiest way would probably be to factory reset.
I can't be sure , but I do remember seeing a "only sync on wifi " setting somewhere . If any of the more knowledgeable guys could tell you where it is you might fix it without a reflash. Also , if your settings are backed up with google you might not solve anything ...
I've no camera and galleries. Done factory reset and used full google factory firmware
I never used to have this problem on KitKat don't know how that setting emerged in lollipop. I'm still hoping I can find a solution without a reflash.

I have. I've also deactivated call forwarding before relaunching the app, also with poor result.
Well the other thing I can think of install stock rooted rom get vvm working and do a backup with titanium go back to the rom your on right now restore app/data
With titanium. This has work for me on International roms

Someone released VVM for ICS on Motorola RAZR in a .ZIP file that needs to be flashed with Safestrap... When I tried the APK by itself on my RAZR, that wasn't enough - there are other things that the VVM APK needs to function. I still have the .ZIP file somewhere but if you don't have ICS it probably won't work.
