[Completed] Galaxy S6 isn't using all its cores, even in benchmarks - XDA Assist

My 3 month-old Galaxy S6 (when it had Lollipop 5.0.2) bossed every benchmark I threw at it. But now for some weird reason I'm having performance issues. The fingerprint sensor feels sluggish and so does the general performance of the phone. I did a couple of benchmarks to get evidence and it scored ~37000 in the Antutu benchmark (latest version) when it has a 69000 score earlier and a 1800 (!!) multi-core score in Geekbench when it had around 4900 earlier.
I would be extremely grateful if someone could point me to the right thread
Thanks
Hamza

Hi,
Thanks for using XDA Assist May i know Variant of S6 you are using ?

I'm using the SM G920F (not the edge variant).
I've noticed that this happens randomly after a restart of the phone.

Usually Lollipop early version that is 5.0.x had many issue of performance and memory leaks hence that is the reason of performance issues. its software bugs and nothing much can be done until samsung provides a update
Benchmarks scores are not accurate and at times benchmarks may show that device is powerful but in reality it may not be hence it varies a lot between a benchmark score and real performance of device

Good Luck!

Quadrant scores are an addiction!!

Before anyone chastises me: I know that quadrant scores can be manipulated, and shouldn't be relied on to determine if your setup is adequate. I'm talking about my own personal experiences here.
I've only had an android phone for a month or so (my Captivate), so I can't claim to be experienced with it. However, like I did when experimenting with Linux distros (a long, long time ago --- settled on Slackware), I've been playing with all the ROM's available for the Captivate.
Initially, it was to get a feel of the differences in the ROM's themselves and that mostly had to do with user interface. However, I soon figured out that some were faster than others 'native', and then I discovered the Quadrant Scores.
So, I started checking Quadrant scores with each ROM under similar conditions (Wifi on, only a couple of apps running, no overclocking, etc.). This is a really horrible addiction -- I keep thinking that maybe the next ROM, or the next kernel update will make the score better - even though I've noticed that a better Quadrant score doesn't necessarily have much bearing on the performance of the Captivate.
The result: I haven't stuck with a single ROM for two days running.
I seem to have settled down recently, but we'll see.
This is a tongue-in-cheek rant, incidentally...this whole experience has been addictive.
Hi . I made 2 quadrant tests : with eclair2.1 and cm7.1.0 . With eclair2.1 i get 800-900 pcts and with cm7.1.0 1600-1700 . I didn't overclock or other setting made .
Yeah, but that's what I mean - a small change can result in better scores, so where do you stop?
So far, on my Captivate, I've found that I get the best scores with
1) Fasty III - 2500+
2) Dlev 4.2 (Talon) - 2250+ (Dlev 5 doesn't like my Captivate)
3) Biffmod (CM7 based) - 2000+
4) Miui 1.10 + Glitch kernel - 1900+
Here's the issue: I love the UI of Miui - it seems to have the best themes available and everything works smoothly. The stock browser on Fasty III is laggy, for example. The games I play work best on Miui and Fasty.
So, the Quadrant scores don't necessarily have any 'real world' meaning. Most of the lagfixed kernels seem to take care of the I/O rates, improving the scores.
Still, I can't stop trying to find a 'better' setup.
PM'ed reinbeau to close.
Quadrant scores mean nothing, I can enter a single code and get over 3000 on a stock RFS partitioned ROM with no OC/UV (Which is incredible) but it means nothing because the Quadrant app is outdated and wasn't meant for the Hummingbird processor, nor Gingerbread on the phones, or dual core.
seems the higher my score gets the worse my phone runs.
Its all about balance

[Completed] Ainol Novo Spark 2 Actions 7039

Its been a year since I'm using this tablet and waiting anxiously for a custom ROM. I also have a HTC Sensation with CM12 installed and its satisfying (Its freaking Awesome ?). Now about my tablet, the manufacturing company (A Chinese one "Ainol") has abandoned this product providing with no help and updates for this product and the only thing that they provided was a link to a Chinese web page to download an old firmware (Android 4.2.2 build 20140107) which doesn't work as it has a problem with the backlight (turning screen off after 3 sec of last usage until unless I take screenshots continuously or type something) even in the recovery. Right now I have Android 4.4 KitKat "Build 20140414" installed (Which I got from a Chinese forum), it has bugs and a great problem "Shrinking the Internal SD Storage from 32GB (25.5GB which is usable) to 16GB (11.5GB usable)" and the processors are heavily used and more than half of the ram (≈1.1GB out of 1.96GB) is used even with no user apps installed. Battery drainage is faster than ever (Battery capacity is 13000 mAh but it lasts for 7 hours of usage under normal conditions and up to 21 hours of standby). It also provides low fps for apps other than the stock launcher which is not good for gaming. Video playback is good, no problems with that, same with audio playback. WiFi usage is good even at greater distances. There is no support for Wireless display (miracast). HDMI quality is AWESOME but it slows down the tablet. It takes a while to turn the screen on (approx. 3 sec after the power button is pressed). Stock ROM (the one with which the tablet came) was awesome but I don't have it now. I just wanna say that a Quad-Core processor (1.6 GHz) should work better than a dual core processor (my htc's) and smoother.
All I wanna say is that someone please help me and other fellows and develop CUSTOM RECOVERIES and ROMs for this device, I would be happy and be willing to test them on my own device. The online recovery builder(clockworkmod) didn't work giving the error 404. Any help would be appreciated!!! ? Chao! ???

Need some spec clarification

This is regarding the Samsung galaxy Tab 4 7.0
there are 2 variant of this
Samsung SM-T231
Samsung SM-T235
(unable to post gsmarena links due limitations)
Im more concerned about the gpus Vivante GC1000 and mali-400mp4
4g dosnt really matter since i will be using wifi
Which is better for gaming or just overall performance ? (i know this is not a high end device)
Usually games like bravefrontier, phantom of the kill, emulators (gba, snes and psp if possible)
i was able to use the SMT230 version felt fluid on the surface
is the lg g pad 8.3 worth getting even if its a bit more pricey than this (not really a fan of the UI as well) ?
thank you in advance
Dont go for both of them.. i got a mali 400 GPu its shi.... get some more money and buy a better one whit snapdragon
The Tab 4 is, like its predecessors, a low-end product. Low specs. Do not waste your money on it.
Mali (and Exynos) isn't suited for gaming, the other even less so.
Go for something with a Snapdragon&Adreno combination. Like the 4G editions of the Tab S or Tab Pro tablets. (Yes, more expensive. With good reason...)

Antuntu score exynos 935f (former 935x)

Nice score !
Live demo unit flashed to 935f Knox 0x0 full stock
Can you run other benchmarks ? Geekbench
Sent from my SM-G925F
awesome ! Exynos version right ?
The baseband will still be disabled on this unit afaik, so it can't be used to connect to cell networks, making it a glorified media player.
We already have one thread about benchmarks here: s7 Edge benchmarks
Please continue there.

(Exynos)Games have less FPS

So I was playing a game Critical Ops and I invited my friend to play it (he plays on iPhone SE). Most of the time, phone gets 50-60fps with lag spikes every minute or so. But my friend doesn't experience anything like this; he gets 55-60 without any lag spikes. So I've began to wonder if my phone is bad. So we made AnTuTu Benchmark and GeekBench and results were similar (about 130K in AnTuTu and about 5500 multi-core score in GeekBench). After this, I went to supermarket because there was a shop with phones that you can try. So I tried playing with shop's S7 (G930X), and I saw that it was running as same as my friend's iPhone did (55-60 without lag spikes) in the same graphics settings. I installed cpu monitoring app on my phone to see what's happening and I saw that CPU wasn't maxed out. 2 or 3 (I think stronger cores) weren't working. So I thought that they are corrupted or sth. so I did a benchmark with monitoring on and I saw that only then all cores were working(didn't test the S7 that was on shop though). So what it can be? Do I need to root my phone or is the phone itself bad? Please help.

Actually I have exynos S7 G930F variant I use to get lock ups playing Bloons TD 5 but after clearing recents and leaving that game still running it fixed the issue and got full speed no lock ups try clear recents before running games (I'm on superman rom and super kernel with default settings)

Well I play BTD Battles(a little more intensive game than BTD5) and getting no problem, even in 30th round. I clear the recents and use Smart Manager widget to get some free ram before running a game.
I see you are rooted right? Do I really need to root my phone? It's only about 2 weeks old and I worried a little for the warranty but if there's no solution for without root then I will manage to make it at some point.
P.S. I think you are secured from this happening because you have a root and a custom rom and kernel so you can manage everything

Exynos G930F comes to a crawl at level 100+ on BTD5 with so much on screen
Don't forget that you have 4 times more pixel than the iPhone SE.
yea this might be the case but its got better battery life so you give and you get some
If possible, I will try to make a video on the shop's S7 and my s7's performance.
P.S. I wonder if G930X has Snapdragon because I can't find any info about this model in internet. If yes then everything's solved I guess

Thanks man!
Then everything's solved in this situation, but another question comes up: why CPU in Exynos version isn't maxed in game Critical Ops? Because if SD version has 4 cores and it works better than in my phone it means that something has to do with cores.
Can it be the game's problem and i need to report this problem?
Sent from my SM-G930F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Possible the game need optimising for 8 cores, but I think the SD S7 has slightly better graphics scores than the Exynos too
Ok so I reported the problem to developers now I need yo wait for their response.

New update rolled out yesterday so I updated and C-ops works pretty smoothly(better!) but still lag spikes.
But now I downloaded Minecraft: Pocket Edition and IT'S NOT 60FPS! It's SOMEWHAT smooth BUT sometimes I see 20-30fps in scenes that aren't showing much of a landscape. And I tried playing HearthStone, NFS:No Limits, GTA:SA and Alto's Adventure (because it was lagging for some people but it works good for me) and I don't see 60FPS from them either. What the hell Samsung. FYI, I tried turning off App power saving in Settings>Battery>App power saving.
P.S. I have read some articles and people said S6 (8 core phone) has worse performance BUT in Marshmallow, not Lollipop so let's hope it will change in Nougat.

Exynos variant has a weaker GPU than Qualcomm so most games will have lower FPS. Exynos does have a stronger CPU and better battery life but that doesn't help out so much with gaming.

But what about iPhone SE then? It has garbage GPU (let's be honest) but CPU is very strong but still performs a little better than my phone. Maybe resolution helps.

I am thinking, should I sell my S7 for another phone? What do you guys think? Do you have any recommendations for another phone?
Sent from my SM-G930F using XDA-Developers mobile app
I wouldn't sell my S7 just because a single game won't reach 60 Fps, sure, the Adreno 530 on the SD Variant is a bit stronger but that doesn't mean the Mali T880 is weak by any means. I'm guessing it must be the software optimization probably because the developers were using an Adreno GPU or a Qualcomm developed gpu. Either way, try tinkering with the settings ( disabling Vsync and anti aliasing ) and see if that would work. You could also try overclocking the GPU if you want.
Goodluck
