I am confused about which Moto G (XT1040) contains the apropriate stock recovery.img for my phone. I want to take the lolipop 5.1 upgrade and am presently at kitkat 4.4.4 The build on my phone is:
KXB21.14-L1.54
System version: 21.1.54-peregrine_retca.retca.en.CA rcica
The link I found here with the closest match is:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/762...SS_4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.54_cid14_CFC_1FF.xml.zip
However it's never available and always returns a system load too high from FileFactory, leading me to believe that this file is either behind the paywall, or is no longer on the servers at all.
I am downloading this in the hope it will do the job for me, but only plan to flash over my TWRP recovery: http://www.filefactory.com/file/65m....4.4_KXB21.14-L1.61_cid14_CFC_1FF_SVC.xml.zip
Any comments on whether this archive above and its recovery.img will do the job as stock recovery and properly update me to lolipop 5.1?
Thanks

So here I am worrying about bricking my device if I go back to stock.
Here is some insight-
I have an unlocked XT1032 US retail moto g running Cyanogenmod 11 m4 snapshot. I am also running clockworkmod recovery and everything is working fine. I have heard of many people bricking their devices when they try and flash stock because the version doesnt match up with the bootloader version or something like that. My bootloader version is reported to be 4111.5 (The bootloader menu version is 41.11) from the "fastboot getvar all". So if I want to flash stock firmware what version do I need to choose. (can someone give me a link to the download?) Also is there any easier way to do this, perhaps can someone give me a clockworkmod backup of stock firmware and i can flash it via restore in the recovery. Also is there a way to get .img files of my whole phone via the dd command on the superuser shell. (Someone please give me a list of those commands to make a full image of my phone) so I can restore incase something goes wrong.
So pretty much all in all can someone please give me a link to the correct stock firmware for my phone that I can flash with NO issues and a list of commands that I can use to flash.
And just wondering what is mfastboot and how is it different from fastboot.
I should have made a backup with cwm recovery before I installed cm11 but I forgot which is why I made this thread. ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED! THANKS!
hey try downloading stock firmware from this link http://sbf.droid-developers.org/download.php?device=14&file=786
then follow instruction from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
if you failed once don't panic... just try another firmware from here http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14
just make sure you choose firmware which is for retail US and also choose right version of android... but first try the firmware i have mentioned above...

during flash gpt.bin it said preflash valadition failed and on the bootloader screen it said partition table downgraded. Used CWM backup to restore and my phone is functioning again but I am still not stock. Please tell me what I am doing wrong? I have attached a screenshot of the command prompt screen.
Q30: i encounter '(bootloader) Preflash validation failed' error message when flashing Firmware Image
You may have updated to Android 4.4.4 via firmware image or OTA update. In this case you now also have the latest version of the Bootloader. That is why you get the above output when attempting to flash a 4.4.2 firmware image. ==> simply flash 4.4.4 images instead.
If the error still occurs, even with a 4.4.4 firmware image, then unlocking bootloader will be necessary.

There is no 4.4.4 Retail US yet. You can flash 4.4.4 Retail EU just fine. Recovery flashable zip here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-rom-collection-t2854688
I have the retail us version though. She. Will the retail us 4.4.4 be available? And one important question when I do go back to stock 4.4.4 with the link you gave me via recovery, will my custom recovery get overwritten with the stock one?
XT1032 is a Global GSM model. you can flash an XT1032 ROM from anywhere in the world and it will work.
It's currently unknown when 4.4.4 US Retail will be available, but I do not think it will take too much longer.
Those zip files only include ROM and Kernel. Recovery will not be changed.
I'll be trying that tomorrow and I'll let you know if it works or not asap. But for now thanks!
You might also need to flash the 4.4.4 EU Retail radio zip available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649763
I read somewhere that when you flash stock ROM even though the recovery is not being changed, the stock ROM will overwrite the custom recovery in start up.
Is this true?

Please help my phone is stuck in CWM recovery during the flash and I think the recovery is frozen. Can I hard reboot back to recovery or is my phone totaled? :crying:
This worked for me - http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...-gpe-4-4-4-t2824377/post55768571#post55768571. Once back to 'base' you can update to 4.4.4 OTA or flash another ROM. And if you get stuck again, re-run this process. Three downloads, a few scripts to run; double-click easy.
Good luck.
Back at stock, just had to give CWM 10mins! Thanks everyone!
Before the recent 4.4.4 update I had to return to stock, and update. All went fine. But now, after a while I have returned to root, custom recovery etc.
Now, as we are expecting lollipop I am wondering is there anyone rooted with stock 4.4.4 (System version: 210.12.61.falcon_umts.Retail.en.US / Build number KXB21.14-L1.61) recovery. Not recovery from some other 4.4.4 rom (there are differences), but this rom. I would like to get a hang of that img file, so if anyone is there, please post it here...
On this webpage http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14 i don't see the retail us 4.4.4 firmware and there is also no new firmware in http://www.filefactory.com/folder/c6cdedc45a775d27 folder. Is there any other location to consider?
The recovery is available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50355724
Thanks for the info, and one question more: is this the recovery you are talking about?
RETAIL_XT1032_4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.61_cid9_CFC.xml.zip
i don't know what this cid9 is all about and i'm afraid i could brick my phone...
The download is smaller in the thread I linked to, but that zip also contains the recovery.img
I have checked both recovery.img from your post and from that zip, and they are not the same. Maybe they do work the same, but nonetheless... Thanks for the heads-up
Hi, I'm actually on CM11 using the moto_msm8960_jbbl, because I haven't update my bootloader since I don't really understand how to do that. So I'm root, have an unlocked bootloader (with the bootloader unlocked warning when I power on my phone). I use a XT925 (RAZR HD from France)
I find threads like this (because I try to search a bit before asking ):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-razr-hd/help/cm11-jbl-vs-kkbl-t2923070
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2760840

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783912
But I don't know what must I do to install rom based on the kkbl, like moto_msm9660 CM11 or Dirty Unicorn, which needs an updated bootloader.
Can you please enlighten me, or explain me ?
Thanks, and sorry for my bad english
UP
you need to bring your device to KK stock first. There are many ways like in the second thread you posted. Or even easier here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/dro...tutorial-make-motorola-razr-hd-xt925-t2916465
Once you upgrade to KK then you can flash any custom kk rom you wish cause you will have kk bootloader.
Have fun mon ami
OK thanks
It will directly download the Stock version of Kitkat? Will I lost recovery and root access, or will I just be able to flash another rom like actually?
Wait a minute Champ there is no kk stock.
first you need to get back to 4.1.2 stock, rtfr
So I download the file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032284
Code:
Branding: Vodafone France
Version: 9.8.2Q-8-XT925_VQU-27 FULL
Android Version: 4.1.2
Bootloader Version: N/A
Requires RSD Lite 6.0
So I use this to flash the thing from the previous link, then I use your link. And after it, I'm able to install KKBL-based roms, like Dirty Unicorns?
follow instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/dro...tutorial-make-motorola-razr-hd-xt925-t2916465
and yes you will be able to get Unicorn and even some pop corn later
Hello again. I can't find a way to get root or install another recovery again.
I've try with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2154995
It seems to doesn't work, now I can't boot in recovery, even on the ugly Motorola's recovery. What I've done wrong? How can I regain root access and flash ROMs? I've also try the Safestrap installer (apk) but it forceclose when I try to open the app.
stay away from those tools man, you dont need them. Just find twrp 7.1.0 and fllash it with fastboot or follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/dro...orial-how-to-root-motorola-xt925-4-4-t2935574
My "problem" is solved, thanks a lot ! :good:
Hi,
the title says it all:
How can I apply the 5.0 OTA update on a rooted, unlocked Moto G XT1032 with CWM recovery?
I don't care about root anymore and I have used SuperSU to unroot the phone.
But in order to apply the update I need to install the stock recovery, otherwise the device will get stuck in a bootloop.
How do I do this? I have tried using MotoToolAIO and its "Flash Stock Recovery KitKat" button but get a
Code:
hab check failed for recovery
message every time I try.
Could you guys please tell me how to get the stock recovery installed on this phone? As I said I don't care about losing root and I don't mind relocking the phone if necessary. I would really appreciate any pointers you can give me. Possibly without losing my data & apps. Thank you.
This page apparently is supposed to contain all those stock files but it is broken: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14
This manual seems to be helpful for similar cases, it did not help me, though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
Download the stock 4.4.4 ROM for your phone, extract the recovery.img file, and flash it using fastboot commands.
You also need to be unrooted with the stock Motorola apps.

If you think that solves the proble, well...yes. But where do I find that file? As I indicated the only possible source seems to be unavailable currently. I can't find any other.
Does anyone here have an XT1032 DE singleSIM recovery image lying around?
As I am currently living in South Africa and internet is not reall stable it would be amazing if someone could offer just the recovery file instead of the whole 500-600MB dump.
I have a Canadian xt1032 running stock Telus 4.4.4 firmware. Not sure if that recovery would work but I could find it if you want to try it.
Don't forget to unroot too.
I unrooted too using SuperSU and managed to restore the stock recovery using MotoTool (find it on XDA). These are the basic requirements for installing an OTA. But after the OTA is downloaded and I try to install it, the process starts and in about 10 seconds it displays "Error" and boots to 4.4.4 again. Any recommendations?
^^did you remove any of the stock Motorola apps?
No, and Motorola Update Services is updated to the last version.

I doubt it - and fear what might happen if it goes wrong, to be honest. But thanks a lot for the offer. I was able to locate a Retail package for the DE version and will try to download the whole beast, hoping that the connection is stable for these 3 hours.
Even though nobody answered me, I found out what's going on. Lollipop OTAs cannot be installed on modified devices.
You could try out some custom ROM if you are unable to get the official 4.4.4. Carbon and CM11 are some customs ROMs I know of.
There are great unofficial ROMs on the moto g xda forum too!! Don't forget to have a look.

I'm thinking of Resurrection Remix 5.0.2
You could also check out mokee, crdroid, xperience. And don't forget to check out the ROMs in the forum list

One question man. I have 4.4.4 installed. Do I have to install stock 5.X in order to get lollipop bootloader before installing any ROM?

how did you manage to un-modify your device? I just bought the Moto G (2013) and have unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP and haven't had any luck installing ANY firmware after 4.4.4.... I'm always getting stuck on the bootlogo and have to return back to stock 4.4.4...

You need to have factory firmware and recovery installed in order to update via OTA.

I was initially on 3's S056_UK firmware. Then I flashed S062_ROW over it, no issues so far. I think flashing the S232 over the S062 won't lead to any problems as well. I suggest first to move to S062 as there is no OTA for S056 to S232. Then flash the OTA. Of course you can also do a clean Nougat install if you wish. This is if you go for the twrp version which I prefer.
The link in this thread is for the fastboot version, so you can full wipe your current rom and install this perfectly fine.
The zip on that site is taken from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p2/development/7-0-lenovo-p2a42-stock-nougat-update-t3581517
Even the first method is wrong because this zip is for recovery.Method 2 is correct.
Can someone provide me with a twrp restore file? I tried to flash the stock rom but the bat file that came with it tampered with some files and I can't even boot into the stock rom
