Digitizer Working Intermittently - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So about a week ago, a vertical strip of my digitizer stopped working, right through the "n" and "j" buttons on the keyboard. I looked into getting it replaced and was quoted around $150, which seems a bit steep for a phone I only plan on keeping until the N5 (2015) drops in a couple of months. Cut to this weekend and once or twice that portion of the digitizer started working again, but only for a few minutes at a time. So it looks like it may not be a hard failure. Has anyone else experienced this and found a way to fix it? Could it just be a loose connector?

For anyone that stumbles on this later, I took the phone apart and found that the ribbon cable for the screen/digitizer was torn. Ordered a new screen/digitizer assembly, swapped all the components over and got the phone up and running again. Took a bit to get the back pressed in right to make wireless charging work, but other than that it was a breeze.
And it's amazing what it feels like to go from an OG EVO 4G running 2.2 to a N5 on the M Preview. Talk about night and day.

Nexus One dock not charging

Anyone else having a problem with the dock not charging? I have to jiggle it to get the charge light on and then it goes off a few hours later.
I have the similar problem now where it won't charge my Nexus One anymore... Do you send it for warranty claim?
Call HTC on 888-216-4736, they will tell you to purchase a replacement unit and give you an RMA on the old one.

I had this issue, only once. I first noticed it shortly after my phone took a (not even that far of one) fall to a hard floor. Immediately after that I had all I could do to get it to charge on the dock. Couple hours later I was looking at the back of my phone and noticed the lower dark piece (that says HTC, directly below the lighter colored band where you could have it engraved) had popped out ever so slightly (right where the 2 different colored pieces come together). I put a little pressure on it and it literally snapped back into place (it was BARELY even visible but was clearly the cause of my issue). Soon as I did that my dock was charging my phone flawlessly again (in fact, I was TRYING to get it in the dock and not charge and failed over and over.). YMMV.
I know this was originally an older post, but if this helps you or anyone else then all the better!
Along the same lines gIMpSTa ... I did not get my N1 factory engraved. Instead I printed my own label and stuck it on the engraving panel. This label (.25" x 2") was as thin as a piece of paper. It was enough tilt the N1 forward ever so slightly, messing up proper seating in the cradle and prevent charging. So a trap for young players.

I want to know if anybody tried to get a warranty repair on his TF700 with cracked glass.
I can't claim i NEVER dropped my Transformer, it has a small scratch on the side from about 8 months ago. About a month ago I noticed my screen cracked on edge after I woke up and tablet was laying in his case right where i put him. A week or so later I noticed that I can't lock it in the dock, the left hinge just wouldn't fit, however the dock still worked. After about two weeks I was on a yacht, the dock was stored in my cabin all the time, but one day I wanted to charge battery from it I noticed it's dead and not charging. After plugging it to charger in marina the light was not lit and when I connected dock to tablet it didnt recognise it. And then 2 days later I took Transformer out of my backpack at the airport and I saw another crack on the screen. Again it wasn't dropped, hit with a club, tossed, just put gently in the backpack.
The weird thing is I got 3 diffrent problems, all happening within a month and none of it was directly preceeded with any kind of misuse. I wonder if people at ASUS support are going to believe that I didn't abuse my Transformer in any way.
Anybody had simmilar problems and what was the result of RMA procedure?
Where are these cracks? I would assume along the bottom where it would fit in the dock but are they where the connection dongle is, on the side, ever notice it getting unusually hot when charging or smell anything? If I follow correctly then neither the tablet nor dock is charging regardless if they are connected or as individual peices.
I've had the dongle portion on my tablet go bad. I heard a pop after plugging it in, a faint smell of burnt something, and it didn't respond anymore to the usb cable. Connectiong it to the computer also resulted with nothing happening. They repaired it with no problem. Perhaps your port went bad and in the process caused the screen to crack. If the cracks are around the port area of course. How it ties into the dock not working now could also be related. Maybe it was the dock that went bad first but the signs showed on the tablet since it is easier to see.
Either way your tablet is useless if it doesn't charge. All you can do really is send it in for RMA and hope they don't claim it is customer induced damage. Try doing a Google search for the model you have and screen cracks. Might find something there following other people with cracked screens.

So that's my one x right now, about a year or so ago the screen did this intermittantly and so I bought a new one and it worked consistantly for 2 months then it did this for good. Is it truly just another bad screen or is this another hardware issue?
Just to clarify, when I said I bought a new one I meant I bought a new screen and digitizer together. Last night I took it apart again and unplugged all the connections just to check it out, didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Plugged it all back together (the cover is still off you may notice that in the pics) but no luck. It's odd that this problem has happened twice with different screens, but it seems like a faulty screen to me....

technical issues

I broke my phone into pieces a few months back, took a pretty back fall from the fourth floor window. I love this beast and took it upon myself to recover it. So I bought a new screen and frame. It looked like new. When I tried to power it on, nothing happened. I suspected the battery, which had already shown some signs of dying prior, and attributed it to months without charge. I ordered a new one, that came today...
Still no power. However something happens , like with the old one: sometimes the flashlight comes on when I tried to charge it. I can feel the heat in the motherboard.
What can I do???? ? Is it time to give up on my OPO?

Spare Charger With Assurion Replacement Phone from Sprint.

I got the Essential phone from Sprint basically the first day it was available from them, in September of last year, and I have liked the phone very much. However, within a month and a half of purchasing it, I dropped it on the sidewalk in NYC and got a very bad series of cracks in it. I am paying for insurance from Sprint, but even with the insurance, I was told it would cost me $200 to fix, basically because they could not replace the screen, they were going to give me a new phone. At the time, I was a little tight with cash and did not want to spend that, so I decided to live with the issue, which at that time was mostly just visible cracking on the screen. However, in the month's since then, the screen got worse, it started reacting erractically to my touch, and black smears started appearing on the screen. Finally, last Saturday, the phone went blooey, to use a technical term, the screen abruptly became almost totally unresponsive; I could not reliably open apps by clicking on the icon on the screen, and the phone often acted as if I was pressing other apps when I was not even touching the screen at all--it even turned on the flashlight by itself several times.
So at this point, I had no choice but to bite the bullet and finally pay to get the phone replaced. Of course, at this point the cost had gone up by about $50, but what do you expect. I no longer trust Essential's word that I don't need a case or screen protector, so I have gotten an Incipio case and a Skinomi screen protector. I have had the phone for 2 days and the case/screen for 1, and so far, so good, but obviously it is a little early in the game.
However, I have one issue, when I was in touch with Assurion, the Sprint insurance company, about getting the replacement, I was happy when they told me I would be shipped a charger with the replacement phone. I still have the one the original phone came with, and it works fine, but it's always nice to have a backup. However, the charger they sent is not the same kind as came with the phone. That was a USB-C to USB-C charger, whereas the one that came with the replacement phone is a standard USB to USB-C charger, the company name is Griffin on the charger, and it does not work very well at all. I have left the new phone connected to it for hours, and it pretty much stays status quo; the power doesn't go down, but it doesn't go up either. The original charger works fine with the phone, so the problem is not the phone itself.
Has anyone else there had this issue? Were you able to resolve it?

What are the current outputs for the charger? It is most likely a QuickCharge block and the PH-1 does not support quick charge. It won't negotiate properly and because of that sometimes you'll plug it in and it'll charge pretty fast, other times it might actually start slowly dying. You need a USB PD (power delivery) charger. Also saying you no longer trust Essentials word because YOU dropped the phone isn't fair. Plenty of others have dropped it without issue. It really does suck that you happened to damage your device, but bashing the company because they didn't make an indestructible device is a bit harsh. Not trying to be a ****, just saying.
