OPO can't boot into custom recovery CM11.0 - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all!
Newly registered here, has been lurking around for some time though.
I just received my replacement OnePlus due to the death of the first one and wanted to do a custom recovery and install Oxygen or Carbon for a little better battery life and back up possibilities.
My problem is: I can't get the phone to boot into recovery.
I did some research and people mentioned trying TWRP and PhilZ's recoveries - those had no result for me.
I have followed official video from OnePlus and also tried C4ETech's way for those two mentioned above.
The ones I tried were PhilZ's 6.50.2 and 6.58.8, for TWRP I used 2.8.5.1 and 2.8.4.1
Tried to do it with OPO toolbox and that didn't work either (TWRP, CWM, PhilZ tested)- all the functions would work, but once I flash the phone - it would boot into stock CM11.
When I try to boot it into recovery, it would stay on the first logo for 7-8 seconds, after that vibrates again and goes into stock CM11.
The same would happen if I go to advanced boot and boot into recovery.
I have changed the options under Developers folder as required already.
I have tried flashing the phone on two computers - win7 x64 and Win 8.1 x64.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have the phone for almost two weeks already and still can't ring myself to setting it up because of previous experience of data loss. (not worried about pictures - those are on Gdrive )

Are you checking the md5 of the recovery files after downloading to ensure that they haven't become corrupt during the download? Exactly which recoveries have you flashed (full filenames please)? Also, is the flash with fastboot definitely succeeding? I'd suggest not using a toolkit because they inevitably cause problems.

I did verify the checksums for TWRP recovery files. They matched.
The ones I used: openrecovery-twrp-2.8.4.1-bacon and openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.1-bacon
I was not able to find md5 data for PhilZ files, just certificates.
I tried toolkit after going through command prompt. I'm not sure if it is succeeding, nothing happens as far as phone rebooting by itself. The process seems to run and say that it was successful in the prompt.
Do you want me to go though it and post the screenshot?
I've tried not doing "fastboot reboot" command, as it was mentioned in the "Noobs" section - still no result.

Is there any reason you're flashing older versions of TWRP? They're pretty outdated now. Grab the latest version from here:
https://dl.twrp.me/bacon/twrp-2.8.7.0-bacon.img.html
As long as it says it's successful in the terminal window it should have flashed ok. What build of CM is currently on your phone?

It did work! Now I'm a happy camper Trying to install Oxygen right now.
It was on 11.0. My old phone was running that OS as well, but it was having issues with screen artifacts I have upgraded to 12.0 and system was running fine for 2 day, after that screen died completely. Buttons at the bottom of the phone were working, but it looked like just the back light was on.
Huge thanks to you, Heisenberg!

I was flashing older versions, because I found only those from the official video link. It sent me to techerrata page and the latest one over there was and still is 2.8.5.1

Awesome, very glad to see you got it working. I realised after my post that your current CM version is in the title of the thread, lol, oops. That Techarrata site doesn't get updated anymore as they have a new site now, so the latest builds can always be found here:

(Solved) Soft-bricked, but unable to flash anything but CWM.

Hello, I seem to have soft bricked my tf700.
I flashed a newish pacman nightly in CWM (after wiping data/cache/dalvik cache), which completed with no errors, then I flashed the corresponding GAPPS. But my device became stuck in the pacman boot intro.
So I tried flashing slimkat which led to my device not getting past the first bootup screen (where you can enter recovery if pressing the corresponding buttons).
After this screw-up I stupidly hit the wipe data button on the bootloader. I then tried doing the method of using fastboot to erase system, cache, and all that so I could flash system blob of the newest asus US SKU (that is correct for a US bought tf700 right?). Either this or wiping the data caused me to have a different bootloader as pictured below as I no longer have the android button and it does not ask me to press volume up to access recovery (the only way to access recovery is by hitting the wipe data button in bootloader).
I can still fastboot flash CWM, but trying to flash TWRP does not work as it finishes but going into recovery causes the tablet to just restart. Trying to flash asus stock as above would always give me an error like the one pictured below. Similar errors occur if trying to flash any rom inside CWM via an external sd card.
I do not have access to adb as i believe i dont have usb debugging enabled since the pacman rom or any other rom did not ever start. It just gives me the device not found error even after manually installing the drivers on two different computers.
Cant seem to get these pics to load, but copying the url and pasting it works.

You probably flashed the wrong Rom. Try flashing the >right< stock Rom and go from there. Double check everything you flash.

Whats the "right" rom here? Talking about the original asus stock rom? I have now tried the the pacman nightly, pacman release, slim kat release, clean rom release, an ICS asus stock rom, and two different versions of the jellybean asus stock rom. These were either done in CWM via internal sd card, external sd card, or done through fastboost flash system blob and flash zip.

As far as i know, i have installed the stock rom, or atleast multiple versions of it with no success as it gives me an error stating something like staging or system when trying to write it.

Hmm, I'd Download a stock Rom for the device offline, take on the sd card and put it on there real quick and try to flash that, if not, you probably bricked your device. I wouldn't know how to fix it beyond that. Ask the dev that made the Rom were everything that went south and an email to cwm wouldn't hurt either
I am also not sure if I need to have my external sd card formatted a certain way or download a specific CWM to allow flashing the stock rom. Ive spent over 10 hours trying to figure this out, very frustrating.
I have run CWM 6.0.4.6, CWM 6.0.4.7, and older versions to see if I could flash the stock rom with no luck. I have also tried different versions of TWRP but they always hang and reboot my tf700. I get errors ranging from status 6, status 7, cannot mount data, cannot mount staging, and cannot mount system. I am completely lost on what I can do. I have even tried a seperate sdcard to see if maybe the one I was originally using was bad with no luck. GG :/

You gotta stop flashing stuff and slow down!
During all of this you never posted your bootloader version, so you may have been on the wrong bootloader to begin with - who knows.
When you hit the Wipe Data in the bootloader menu you caused the BL do write a wipe data command to the misc partition, causing the tablet to boot to recovery each time you booted (I'm guessing here) and then interrupting it. Usually, with CWM installed, it eventually sorts it out and executes the wipe data command, but that takes hours! You just have to leave it alone.
Hard to tell where you are now since you flashed all kinds of stuff since then.
Can you still boot into the bootloader and have a fastboot connection?
What's the BL version number?
If you boot, what does it boot into?
The picture links are broken - at least in Tapatalk. Post them again?

Yes, the pictures are broken. You can still copy paste the url though. Couldnt figure out why it wouldnt work.
The tablet boots into the first screen that states it is unlocked, but does not go any further.
There is no bootloader version on the top left when holding down power + volume down.
I can still get to the place where it allows me to wipe data or fastboot, but the android icon to boot into android is now gone.
adb does not recognize my device even after manually installing the drivers, but fastboot works fine.
Is there any other way to find my bootloader version?

Maybe you want to edit your post with the urls then.... Makes it easier for people trying to help...
You're seriously messed up, I think. I see a USB icon in there which would indicate that your bootloader is ancient. But then it says: "starting USB fastboot protocol".
Is that after you selected the USB icon?
Anyway, I think you're only chance is buster99's method to get it back. Did you try that already?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44244313&postcount=12
Naturally you have to extract the system blob from the 10.6.1.14.10 US Asus firmware, but then you can try to fastboot flash it with buster's method.
Good luck!

Its starts the usb fastboot automatically if no input is selected. I had a different bootloader up until i tried that thing that buster did. It always gives me an error like cant write to system or something if i try it.

Which blob did you flash with buster's method?
I'm afraid you flashed something totally incompatible with your tablet...
You did not generate your nvflash blobs sometime prior to this, did you?

Are you sure you downloaded the correct firmware? For the TF700?
Do you still have the original zip you extracted the blob from?
Post the exact file name please.

I flashed the newest one first, and it gave me one of those errors that wouldnt allow me to flash it, and i tried the others with the same result. So technically i didnt flash any of them. I have been able to flash some roms, but they wouldnt boot so i would be stuck where i was when i started.

Right stop flashing random stuff - you have combinations of JB4.2.1, JB4.1.1 and ICS 4.0.3 just listed there.
Let me put a call out to @lj50036 who may be able to save you but if you have messed the bootloader up with no nvflash backups you are not going to be happy with the result. If you can still get to the bootloader screen then he can perform miraculous superhero acts and *maybe* save your device.

Moto G Rooted and unlocked, No custom rom works, backup has "bad MD5"

Ive tried CM 11, C-Rom, Pac-Man, and PA.
I have to sideload them using CWM's install from sideload, I reboot and it just gets stuck on the loading screen, for every single ROM.
And now somehow my backup is corrupted and I cant install that either.
I've been searching for hours, how do I fix this.
Is there a stock Boost mobile rom somewhere I could try? Nothing seems to be working except for CWM.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you ill try that right away!
Do I install it from cwm? There doesnt seem to be an option to install it from fastboot, Just the following:
Normal Powerup
Recovery
Factory
Switch Console
Barcodes
BP Tools
I got some MoKee Build and it actually booted but was full of errors and app crashes.

You're welcome. Make sure you flash the version you had before. Downgrading can be a pain.
Once your stock ROM is restored, you can flash a custom recovery and ROM again
I cant really get the flashboot commands working, adb doesnt see my device in fastboot mode. Ill have to keep trying. Its odd how Ive gotten two roms to boot, but the background apps kept crashing.
Thanks
I got it, I extracted the stock firmware zip in the Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder, and instead of mfastboot, I just used fastboot, And its loading the stock moto globe now.
Hopefully this thread helps others who might be in my situation.

[RESOLVED] HELP.. Boot Loop With TWRP and L install

Hi
Earlier I installed TWRP via Philz and that worked fine.
I then reset my phone and flashed Bigxie's Android L, again this worked fine.
I flashed the new radio for the same thread and that worked fine.
I then downloaded CF-Root from here:
http://download.chainfire.eu/363/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hammerhead-hammerhead-nexus5.zip
Ran the Windows Batch file all seemed to go well. Bootloader was unlocked and the big red android appears on screen.
Phone booted back to TWRP, a script ran and then my phone started constantly booting the the TWRP screen.
All I'm getting is teamwin flashing up.
If I power off it goes back to this loop.
Any way I can get this working again ?
Not worried about any data.. I've got all I need backed up.
Thanks

dont use root toolkits.
flash the factory img via fastboot. then flash twrp again, flash a kernel that allows root, then flash the latest supersu.
Thanks for the reply.
Just want to claify to make sure I don't make it worse..
I've got the L image from Googles site, do I extract the factory.img from that ?
Then flash it using :
fastboot flash factory factory.img
Thanks
Think I may have made things worse..
I extracted the tgz file and while browsing double clicked the flash all batch file.
:silly: Not sure how the hell I clicked it twice.. but it's doing something.. .hopefully not killing my phone.
Any suggestions how I did myself out of this hole..

i dont think hitting it twice will do anything. but you might have to flash the img files separate, as in the flash-all is giving some ppl issues.

When doing this, is there any specific order to follow when flashing all the .img files separately? I am also getting errors stating recovery.sig and boot.sig are missing. Does installing separate also take care of this?

it appears that the flash-all is having issues and skipping. so by flashing them all individually, you will make sure to flash them all.

Thought I was doing so well; tablet won't boot to OS

Hey folks; I'm hoping I can get some advice or pointers, or maybe just a slap upside the head with something I've missed.
I have one of the original Shield tablets, and played around with it quite a lot, installing various custom ROMs from the marvelous directions I've found here. When the battery thing happened, I submitted the required info and happily received my new tablet. The original was rooted and customised still, kill-switch averted, and I had two working tablets. I gave the new stock one to my wife.
But then, about three months ago, I was playing with mine again installing a newer ROM than the one I was using (I *think* I was going from an older Bliss rom to one of the Cyanogen), and ... Something Happened (tm). The tablet rebooted in the middle of everything, and now won't boot to an image.
I'm on Windows 10 now, and had some fun getting the drivers working, but they seem to. I can communicate with the tablet through Fastboot, but ADB doesn't see it. I've flashed several versions of TWRP to the tablet, and can boot into that recovery - both through Fastboot and the tablet's power+vol-dn buttons. I've used TWRP to flash several different ROMs, and it *appears* to work (there are no errors), but when I reboot the tablet .... nada. Nothing but the Nvidia boot screen for days.
So now... what have I missed? I'm a little reluctant to flash a stock ROM, but I'm at a loss. I used to have more time to fiddle and figure, and I'm afraid that my impatience is going to kill the thing.

so you wan t your "burning" tablet set again stock?
Did you read about "recovery images" for shield tablet?
If fastboot is working you can flash the recovery image and all will update to the latest(blob, system, boot, etc)
flash latest twrp for shieldtablet.
after that use the nomoreota.zip to prevent the software brick from nvidida

No, I don't want it stock at all, I was just worried that was my only option to get this thing to respond again. I was running BlissPop v.somethingorother, but wanted to update. That's when things went awry.
Right, well it looks like I've got this thing going. I could flash TWRP 3.1.0-0, but not any 3.1.1. Cyanogenmod 12 worked. Reading up a little more (it got slow at work for a couple of days...) I flashed the firmware to 5.0, and could now install TWRP 3.1.1-1! Then I could install (in this case) Lineage 14.1, which *almost* worked. It booted, but there's no wifi.
Then I found a suggestion - I think it was on these forums somewhere - and restarted. Wiped all data again, flashed Cyanogenmod 12, no gapps. Restarted, checked everything including wifi, and is good. Rebooted back into recovery, performed a factory reset, then installed Lineage 14.1 and gapps. When it rebooted, everything is working!
So. Firmware. Huh.
Thanks all.

do not know if you need the bootloader(blob) from nougat to boot up, that lafester told you. but that sounds plausible. skooter says something from re-formating. so if you tried that all and nothing changes? cache and data partition you wiped also, so it has to be work for my understanding.
went always stock, so can t help you..
but you can use recovery images > twrp > bliss/linage. no need to boot up stock?

Unresponsive touch screen in TWRP - how can install a ROM?

So I am not an entire noob when it comes to these things, I've flashed ROMs on phones for 8 years now, but this Moto G7 Power screwed me up good.
I tried installing CrDroid from this post. I didn't even notice the A/B part at first, I went through all the usual steps, I booted TWRP, then flashed it, rebooted into the installed TWRP, flashed CrDroid, GApps and Magisk and rebooted, hoping to start Android up. At that part it all screwed up. The phone didn't boot AT ALL, and after a while I found that blankflash zip file and managed to get into the bootloader again. The only thing I can do now is boot into TWRP, not flash, and when I boot, the touchscreen does not work.
So, where do I go from here? I now only have an unlocked bootloader to play with. What are the exact steps to flash the firmware? Why do I need to flash firmware to slot A anyway? Isn't or wasn't there firmware out of the box on the device? The guides for this phone are vague and people write really short and rambling sentences in the steps and mention certain files out of the blue without explanation or download link.
1 - Which firmware file do I need? I have an XT1955-4 bought in a Dutch shop called Belsimpel with no sim. I assume it's an international variant. Here is a download list of all the firmware variants, but how do I know which one to pick? Will it wipe things like IMEI data? The box says the type is M3C94, and it seems to be this international variant.
2 - In the bootloader, what commands do I need to put into adb when I want to flash the firmware to partition A?
3 - When I boot into TWRP, my touchscreen does not work, so how can I even use it?
4 - The 'guide' in the CrDroid thread suddenly mentions copypartitions.zip. What is that file, and why do I need to flash it? It says I have to flash it in Slot A. Does TWRP give options to switch slots? I wish I could check but since my touch screen doesn't work in TWRP..
5 - During the actual ROM install part, the guide says Flash ROM.zip + TWRP_installer/boot.img ramdisk method Why do I need to install TWRP again? And what is the ramdisk method? How do you do that?
Can someone please explain in detail step by step what I need to do?

1. go to settings - system - about phone check build number, this is the firmware you'll need
2. there's a thread here regarding that matter check again
3. I'm not aware of this issue
4. you'll only need to flash that file once coming from stock rom - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=4349826312261636295
5. because it be overwritten by lineage recovery.
ramdisk method is just another way of installing twrp back when we still dont have the installer zip

I only have the boot loader, no stock ROM. I wiped that when I tried installing CrDroid, as I have written in my post. So I can't check my firmware if I don't have ROM installed. And I know which thread you mean because I linked the list of firmware from that thread in my post.
The big issue here is the touch screen not working. I can't do anything inside TWRP.

I tried an older version of TWRP which didn't work either. I am not aware of Orangefox, but I don't see any mention, official or unofficial for the G7 Power. There's no mention in the G7 Power forum either.

From the desktop search in this one I couldn't find it: https://t.me/OrangeFoxRecovery I didn't know there was a separate chat for each device. But thanks.
FWIW when this happened to me I did the blankflash thing to get it back to bootloader. Then I used the LMSA tool from Motorola to do a rescue/restore.
I also used LMSA to force the update to the most recent security update. In general, it seems a very useful utility.

I had this issue after blankflashing this temperamental device out of a brick. While in twrp you can do "adb shell" then "twrp install /path/to/zip" I think this has to do with new twrp versions on older firmwares

When i had this issue go reboot fastboot
then fastboot boot recovery.img or twrp as your boot img do what you need to do just dont flash it to boot only boot from it so you preserve your real boot should fix the touch screen part only time i had prob like this is when i flashed twrp to recovery without disabling dm verity etc. But I cant even get a stock OTA since I flashed twrp as recovery nor can I find a RETUS stock recovery.img so far if i had that I can update and keep magisk etc, then reflash twrp when im done.

But I cannot locate a stock recovery.img thus far.... and I dont wanna redownload my apps right now, so I may just wait til I see a rom i really think ill like and say screw it.

I also installed crDroid and after that twrp-3.3.1-2-ocean.img was not responding to touch, but twrp-3.3.1-0-ocean.img works. (btw I was doing a fastboot -w in between.)
Edit:
Ah nevermind, I have it constantly when installed, with both versions.

I've flashed another stock rom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g7-power/how-to/guide-moto-g7-power-supra-flash-to-t3927138) and it worked with twrp-3.3.1-0-ocean.img not with the newest.

You use fastboot commands in the bootloader.
The firmware contains a flash file with all fastboot commands you'll need.

TWRP has adb enabled by default. So instead of TWRP you can use
Code:
abd shell twrp --help
So you can use the basic functions like backup, install, and so on.
I had the same issue...
I'm not sure everyone is experiencing the same issue here, but I've been dealing with that exact problem the entire time I've had this phone. While this work around won't work every time, it will eventually work (for me within 3 tries). It doesn't matter if your "fastboot boot twrp.img" or running an installed version, all are the same. Even the latest 3.4.0.0.
As soon as you start recovery, start tapping the area of the screen where the "Advanced button" is in recovery. I mean tap as fast as you can, use two fingers if you need to. If it doesn't work right away, "adb reboot bootloader" and try again. I can get this to work within 3 tries. Its sucks and its stupid, but it works.

Again not everyone is experiencing this same issue. A custom kernel isn't going to help when its incompatible with my ROM. My stupid workaround works for "No Touch Screen Response" in TWRP as well as OrangeFox. Its happened to me in both. Happily cruising along on Paranoid Android Quartz.

The problem with the touch is the right driver needs to b installed that kernel I shared makes it work and stick I'm on it now go to tellagram group Moto g7 power support group both twrp and ofox there that works not the one from twrp it's self and the twrp there has some other features that one from official one has that don't work
This boot image gave me a touchscreen and allowed me to flash a regular twrp: hxxps://f.emvn.me/android-roms-and-stuff/twrp.3.4-kakarot.boot.img
Thanks to whoever made it.
