[Q] Music and custom Ringtones/Alarm are not showing anymore - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy,
I'm sorry to bother, but after searching with many different combinations of words on Google I did not find anything, and posting on Nexus 5 subreddit did not offer me any answer :/ That's why I try here
So basically, for no reason (no update, no restart of the device), my Nexus 5 does not show my music in Google Play Music, and my Ringtones/Alarms/Notifications that I customized do not work too (and they do no show in the list when I try to apply parameters).
No file has disappeared:
- Music is in Nexus5 > Internatl Storage > Music
- The rest of the stuff is still in Nexus 5 > Internal Storage > Ringtones, or Alarms.
Everything is here right at its place. But nothing works as before. I tried to restart the device, but no. I tried to empy cache/clear data/force stop of Google Play Music, but no. I did the same with the Media Storage app, and it did not wrok too. I got all the files out and back with other names, but no. I'm clueless.
Moreover, since I forced stop of Google Music and relaunched it, now my library is polluted my dozens of songs and albums that I suppose are automatically put here as a "try it" thing, but I don't want them appearing at all, even more in my small library (okay, right now, nothing would appear I know).
Would you be so kind to help me in this matter? I would greatly appreciate it.
Best regards,

Hmm new piece of information!
I did not realized earlier, for my custom wallpaper stayed the same, however when I tried to put a new one, if was impossible for me to wander in the different folders I once created to put pictures (using the USB cable and all). So the custom wallpaper stayed probably because it was in cache or something. But technically, it seems like in addition to the music and ringtones it's impossible to access other media folders...
I took half an hour to explore parameters and apps without finding the needle I was looking for :/

Newbie issues with S200. Any advice appreciated.

Hi!
New to this forum and new to the wonderful world of Windows Mobile.
Coming from a palm-world where most things just tend to work, this has been somewhat of a reminder of the early Windows desktop days.
I'm having some issues (One of these issues made me choose this forum, if this was in error, I apologize in advance).
1. Active sync worked once, but never again.
It seems the mp3-files I added (251 of them), makes active sync just time-out in the media stage. I have not found a way to remove media from active sync either to confirm this. I cannot access settings since it times out with the sync. Edit: The media-row in the active-sync window also states that the installation has to be completed first. Which it already has.
2. Media player does not add files to library.
I do the file-search and it finds 251 files on the SD-card, makes a slight paus and finds 4 more files. Then it adds only those 4 files. accessing the storage card in the library and my music only produces an unexpected error. I have not tried to empty and reformat, or a lower file-count just yet. But to me this seems like a bug that not only scans the storage-card but also the device and then only adds what's on the device. What is added is 4 ring-tones.
3. A2DP...
Well, I read the instructions on the two threads dedicated to this, but it does me no good since I find no files in either of them. I am willing to host those files for you if needed by the way. I really want A2DP since I already got the Jabra BT-620s.
4. Not a real important one but, overclocking.
I ran the OMAP_TI_Overclock thingie, but absolutely nothing changes. Still 195 Mhz whatever I do. I find people have fall-backs in a few minutes or after reset, but this is immediate. The utility says it sets the clock and that the current clock has changed, but as soon as I go to the system-info it says 195. And starting the utility again it says it set as 180 (which according to the system obviously equals 195 ).
These are the current obstacles to overcome before I turn to media-control from the headset, and other more daily handling stuff that obviously already works fine (Voice-control, and contacts and stuff)
There was something more, but I forgot. I'll return to that. Now I'm off to the golf course hoping for some good advice to start pouring in...
Best Regards
Bo Eriksson
1. Buy a card-reader. They're cheap and save your nerves as AS 4.1 is EXTREMELY unstable comparing to 3.8 one
2. Dunno.
3. Try reading again. Works just fine
4. In the ABOUT info you'kk never see the change as it's not a monitor of CPU but the info contained like plain TXT. as for the program use action-set clock - and then action-exit. If you do load it before you turn Prophet off you'll see the clock is still in there
About #1:
Yes, I have several. More than I have computers actually, which is a lot!
Not that more helps in this case. I got my S200 Yesterday so I am really only starting out to get things going. This is just my initial small problems. I just find it frustrating that I cannot change what will be synced with Active sync until a sync is successfully completed, which is never. So We'll see how I solve that one...
About #4:
Is there a real system info utility around?
About #3:
I am sure it works fine. I just cannot find the needed files. They're nowhere around for download. At least not in the threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43992&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=225
And:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=275438#275438
So if you know where they are (Especially the one talked about in the first thread), please direct me towards them.

1. I just mean uploading thru AS WAS ALWAYS laggy and still is unles you do upload small files.
4. Why would you want one, you just see it working faster.
3. I attached both files zipped for you.
Ok, I got A2DP working now, Great, and thanks. I didn't realize the files only were visible while logged in , yup real newbie-alert .
And I installed Resco Explorer to do things more easily.
What remains is the problem with my Media library.
I cannot fathom what's going on. It's like this. I have 221 files on the storage card, and the system has 4 on the device itself. It scans both and lists 225 as found, then it takes a good 3 minutes adding files. Then it reports 4 files added. And only the library on my device shows anything (The four ringtones) trying to access the storage card library only results in an error.
Still, I can just click any of the files in the explorer and it plays perfectly (now in glorious wireless stereo!)... So there's nothing wrong with the card and the files. It's just the Library update thingy that fails me.

I solved the Media Library thing.
I started deleting albums and doing new updates, but still no luck even down to one single MP3. So then I remembered something someone said in a thread somewhere about the MSMETADATA folder containing the library, so I simply removed it from the storage card and updated the library again. Voila! Now it works!
From now on I will only add a smaller number of files at a time, doing new library updates...
So now it's only the Active Sync problem remaining.
I just can't get it to work anymore. I tried reinstalling it late yesterday, but no luck...

WMP won't play protected media files anymore!

I have posted this in the Prophet forum, but realized it's not prophet-specific and I might stand a better chance of getting an answer here - sorry for double posting, but it's a little annoying not to be able to listen to music I paid for and I haven't received any suggestions yet...
Basically had a device that was acting funny enough to deserve a hard reset. I had about 25 music files that were DRM-protected but sync fine and play flawlessly on my Storage Card. (Oddly, that's the LIMIT! Windows Media balks at anything over 25 and gives an error, which Microsoft recognizes and comments on on their site - anyone know anything about this?)
After the hard reset, none of the files would play, which I didn't take as any huge surprise, I just synched again. No go - The files synch fine, but I get an error saying something about the filesize being too large and unable to play ANY file in my library. (the actual error message is in Chinese, so I'm not sure about the exact wording in English, sorry)
I have deleted MSMETADATA from the storage card and thought this would solve the problem, and upon the next synch I got a new directory that I didn't notice before - WMDRM, and a file WMPInfo.xml. Don't know exactly what these do, or if I should delete them.
Has anyone experienced this and have any advice on a next step? I really REALLY don't want to hard-reset again as I've kinda given up on SPB Backup (it was after a scheduled backup that things got strange) and am re-installing things by hand.
Thanks in advance!

Zune autoplaylist

I like to create auto playlist on Zune desktop say for top 100 songs on my HD these synch great play counts are updated and then sync back to HD.however when I synch phone play counts are not pulled form phone so the counts are always wrong so my list are always wrong since I rarely play songs on desktop.im only the only one with this issue is there a way to clear the cache on phone
Sent from my T7575 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Can you post a screenshot?
Why

Gah, that was painful to read! If it weren't for your flag and your profile photo, I'd assume English was your fourth language or so. You'll get more help if you communicate the problem clearly...
What I *think* you were trying to say:
You like to create auto-playlists based on "Number of times played" in your music collection. You used to create these using the Zune desktop software, even though you don't play the music on PC, because the Zune HD would sync the play counts. However, WP7 doesn't sync the play counts back to the PC, so you're not able to to build accurate lists if you do all your listening on the phone.
OK so far?
Then I think you ask a rhetorical question (whether you're the only one with the problem), followed by asking how to "clear the cache" on your phone. OK...
So, what cache? If you just mean your music library, yes, that's easy to clear using Zune (Phone -> Music -> select all -> Delete).
If you mean your phone's Recently Played list, then I don't know how to clear that. It may require registy editing, which isn't yet possible on the Lumias.
If you mean the current playlist on the phone, just order the phone to start playing anything else (use "Add to Now Playing" if you want to keep the currently list, or just "Play" if you don't).
If you mean export the phone's play count for each song (which is not even remotely a cache, but seems to be what you were after earlier), then I don't know if the the phone even tracks this - much less where it's stored - so sadly, no. If it doesn't automatically sync this info the way the Zune HD did, you might need to find a new way to build playlists.
Have you tried Smart DJ? You can do it using either the phone or the PC, and I find it to generally be a high-quality auto-playlist. The phone will only build one an hour or so long at a time, but you can easily create a new one - even from the same starting song/album/artist, if you want - and keep going.
If none of that helps you, you're just going to need to communicate what you're looking for to us better.
Thanks I use smart DJ love it.i like to have my top 100 songs and it updates it based on play counts
Cache was referring to would be the temp files on the phone the area where it saves what your doing like play counts and internet data thought maybe a file was corrupted and if I could clear it,it would reset my play data
Ah... there are many such caches on the phone, but the only one I know how to clear without requiring app capabilities that we can't get on the Lumia is the IE cache.
You could also hard-reset the phone. That's probably overkill, but it would definitely clear any bad data. Unfortunately, I wouldn't really expect the phone to be as good at music as a dedicated media device like the Zune HD; until Mango came out you couldn't even build Smart DJ playlists on the phone.
I use a very similar technic to sync my Database. On Zune Desktop, i have created a Autoplaylist. This Playlist sync alls Songs (sorted by Album), that not played before, it excludes Songs which i dont like (broken heart symbol) or from some Genre, since i share the Music Database with my Wive. This works fine. Every song played on the Phone, will be deleted from the Phone with next sync and new Songs are transfered to Phone. I have limited the Playlist to X-minutes length, so the Phone has enough free space after sync.
So i think, the Playcount and last played timestamp will be transfered back from Phone to ZuneStore.sdf on the Desktop.

[Q] HTC Sync

Coming from Windows Mobile (I-Mate PDA2k, HTC Touch Cruise, HTC Diamond2)
I've always been able to
1. Sync my Phone (Contacts, Calender, etc)
2. Access my Storage (Internal and SD Card)
3. Share Internet (Internet Pass-Through)
4. Charge my phone
at the same time.
Now I bought myself the Sensation XE and found out that when I connect the phone to my computer, I can do only one of the first 3 options mentioned at any given time. That is 1, 2 or 3, which isn't as good as what I could do on WM (1, 2 and 3 same time)
So I was wondering if there is anyway to set up the phone or my computer or if there is any program or app I could use to enable all those options at the same time (sync my phone, access the storage and use the internet from my computer)
I hope there is a solution to my problem else I would be pretty disappointed with HTC constant habit to disappoint me and Android on the whole
Off the topic, previously when on Windows Mobile, I had the Windows Media Player which had the "Now Playing" list to which I could ADD songs to it or REMOVE songs from it.
Now on both the default Music Player and the PowerAMP there doesn't seem to be such feature and so I was wondering if there is any music player app available that has a Now Playing list with options to add/enqueue songs to the Now Playing list and also option to remove songs from the list
I am aware that I can create a playlist, however some days I want some specific songs and other days I want only a few of those songs.
can anyone help?

Hi,
I used to have HD2 WinMo,and when I found Android could go on the phone,I never looked back.
Considering how much better Android is than WinMo,you should be able to live with the very few parts of WinMo that are no longer available in Android.
I'm on ARHD ICS 6.0.0,and my stock music player has a "queue" system which you can edit(add music etc.)
HTC Sync is one of the few things that bugs me about Android.
You will find yourself installing/uninstalling it a lot!
While it is synching,it does charge as well, but that's as close as you will get to the original.
Good luck.
I'm not aware of software PC side which does this
regarding sync'ing the easiest solution is to use Google services - that way calendar, email, contacts etc - all sync all the time - usb, wifi, 3G - you simply stop thinking about them frankly as it all happens automatically
hope this helps
Shaun
Thanks for helping out both of you
I guess now I have a different issue
I've started syncing everything with Google and so the Sync part is dealt with
I'm getting an unlimited data plan so the Internet Pass-Through is also dealt with
However now I notice if I mount the SD card into the PC, it becomes unavailable on the phone (if you know any solution to make the SD card available on both places at once, please let me know)
Regarding the music player, I think I will have to wait for the official ICS to release, the phone is less than a month old so I don't want to try weird stunts on it.
anyways thanks once again

Hi,
In terms of the sd card,it can only work in one place at a time.
Hence the option in Settings/storage to unmount the card,so that you can also remove it while the phone is on.

[Q] Help with syncing large music library to S3

I've looked through the forums and have seen many suggestions about different apps that will help you sync your music using your iTunes library and playlists. I've tried Easy Phone Sync, Double Twist and iSyncr, but all suffer from the same issue and crash part way through syncing when doing a complete sync or sync with a lot of changes. The sync eventually finishes after a number or app restarts, unplugging/plugging in phone, etc. It's just really annoying that it can't be a smooth process.
Has anyone else had issues with large libraries? And if so, any suggestions on how to get the syncing process working smoothly so you can literally just click sync and then wait till it finishes? I'm using Windows 7 and have tried syncing from 2 different pcs, with same issues on both. I've also had the issue on stock S3 rom as well as custom roms I've installed. I've also tried both default exFAT and FAT32 file systems on my SD card(64GB), but same issues every time.
Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
I too have a large music library. My strategy is to drag and drop folders over the USB connection. I don't find a program necessary. When I want to change stuff around, I just delete what I don't want and drag on what I do. I use it like a jump drive.

Yeah, I was heading down that path as well, but I just wish it wasn't such a PITA. It's so much easier to manage it using play lists. I switched from using an iPhone, which was such a breeze, and I just don't understand why it has ended up being so clumsy on Android.
Blame apple for that.

I found that making playlists in iTunes was a hassle—partly because I was only ever copying over full albums, so I literally had to go through each and every album and turn it into a playlist for syncing, which I found to be quite redundant. Dragging and dropping albums onto the device turned out to be simpler to me. Maybe this is because almost all of my music is sorted into full-album folders already.

I'm completely the opposite and find playlists in iTunes much easier to manage my library and what I want to take with me or group together for other reasons. I have close to 90GB of music and only enough space on my external SD card to hold about 55GB. Using a library that you can drag and drop to/from while seeing a live update of how much data the library will consume makes much more sense to me.
I've tried doing the syncing using other music apps as well(e.g. Winamp), however then I run into issues with those programs and crap support of m4a when transferring. I would get huge amounts of failures due to "unknown file error". So even when trying other library management software it seems to not work smoothly or cover all bases.
All I want is an app that will sync a playlist (partial update or full) without crashing after getting to about 10-15%. It seems like it should be such a simple ask in today's world, but alas it appears not.

I know this thread is a little dated, but I run into the same issue. I have a 64G microSD in my phone and it is mostly music. I just reformatted it for a new phone, and I'm on my third try with isyncr to get the whole itunes playlist copied over. I may opt for my old technique I use with my Sansa clip: pop out the microSD card and put it in my computer. then run the neat little program itunes sync (free from binary fortress software]) to copy over the itunes playlist. It always seems to work. I just need to take the back off my phone to pull the sd card each time, and that's less easy than plugging in a cable.
