root on 5.1 - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm just wondering, is it expected that there will be some root method that supports 5.1.1 without tripping knox in the future?
I mean knox is not something new, do the older devices have something of that sort?
Or "ping-pong root" was just one exploit that only supported 5.0 and that's it?
It pisses me off that I'll lose my warranty if I'll root the phone, I don't understand why does unlocking the software of my device has to do with manufacture hardware defects, mainly because the stock firmware and kernel by Samsung suck as always.

I meant to post this in the Q&A forum, can a mod please move it?

There was a exploit found in the ping sockets in 5.0 kernel before March 5th. No body has found one for 5.1.1 yet. Without a exploit to get around the SElinux enforcing on our stock kernels you'd have to flash a recovery or custom kernel, both tripping Knox

So the s5 and the s4 devices which afaik also have KNOX, what you said applies to them as well?
This is annoying.

You never know but from experience someone always manages to bypass the security eventually, how long will it take? Could be tomorrow or next year....

Doesn't work on any kernel version past June of last year. Should put that in your OP since this is widely known. It will never be updated to work either because geohot was picked up by Google to help them find the exploits and patch them.

Flash an older kernel with Odin, root with towelroot, flash the current kernel. That's how we've all been rooting the T530 and T530NU (and I'm sure other models too).

Yes that's how we do it on the AT&T version of Note 3 and S5 also, I was just talking about the instructions in OP not specifying that as a step.

Incremental update for the Galaxy S4 (I9500) brings Knox 2.0 and Mute mode in india

Samsung India has released an incremental update for the Galaxy S4 (I9500) in the country. The core OS version remains at Android 5.0.1 even though it has been a couple of weeks since Google released Android 5.0.2. This is an incremental update that comes in just north of 300MB. It doesn’t bring any major changes or any new features. However it does make some minor changes under the hood.

The Knox security suite has been upgraded from version 1.0 to version 2.0 in this update. It brings an improved user interface, two-factor biometric authentication, TrustZone-Protected Certificate Management, support for apps from the Google Play Store, better device integrity from kernel to app and other enhancements. The “Interruptions” mode that was introduced with the Lollipop update has now been removed. Mute mode is back for the Galaxy S4 (I9500) with this update.

Problem with Samsung browser for Android 4.0

Hy guys!
I'm new here on the XDA forum. I hope to receive from you the necessary information in order to solve the problems on my device SM-G920F but also that I will help you in solving your problem as much as I can.
To begin with I have a problem with the Samsung browser for Android 4.0.10-51:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
After the update should have the option of entering into secret mode browsing with fingerprint. However on my device, this option is unavailable. Look like a older version.
My Knox is 0x1. Maybe that's the problem?
Can any of you what the problem is and how to solve it?
Tnx a lot!!! ?
I have the same problem, I used to have it on 5.1.1 before the update, I tried a clean install of marshmellow, yet no change.
Nobody knows what is the problem. I was looking for best way to solve the problem but no luck.
Are you root your phone?

Yeah, I rooted my phone but I restored to stock 5.1.1 for the new marshmallow update, and the 'enable secret mode' button is gone for no reason, it must be disabled due to tripping know.

That's it. So problem is that the device was be rooted. That may be.
Do you in your fingerprints settings have any additional options as "Enable secret mode with fingerprint" ??? Some say that they have and I do not have it. See screenshoot...

Question Downgrade from UI 5.1 to UI 5.0

Good day all,
I'm currently running the latest firmware update for the SM-S908W model One UI 5.1 Feb 2023.
The notification icon pallet is driving me nuts and I know there are work arounds, but I am interested in downgrading from One UI 5.1 to One UI 5.0.
Is simply flashing the stock firmware in Odin capable of accomplishing this task or is there a possibility of bricking or other unforeseen issues?
If it is possible, can someone direct me to a guide?
Please and thank you!
You can usually use Odin to downgrade, provided your bootloader is unlocked. Keep in mind that certain bootloader versions will not permit downgrading.

Thank you!
I used this video as a guide. I can confirm I have successfully downgraded to One UI 5.0!
Make sure you download the latest Samsung USB Drivers (https://developer.samsung.com/android-usb-driver) so your device is recognized by Odin.
Cheers

You can downgrade as long as the binary is the same.
You don't need to unlock the bootloader

Update LG Wine Smart from Android 4 to 5 or 6?

Apologies for posting here but there is no forum for the LG Wine Smart (D486). Mine currently has stock 4.4.2 KitKat. Aw remember that? LG update app no longer functions correctly as it was shut down in 2020.
Is there any way to update this to 5 or preferably 6? There is an app I need that isn't compatible with Android 4.
You have to find
1. A Custom ROM suitable to phone ( specs: 1 GB RAM, 4 GB max storage )
2. If found, a Custom Recovery suitable to phone to flash the Custom ROM found
Many thanks. Sorry for the questions but if you were me, where would you look first?
Alternatively I wanted to make it clear that this phone officially shipped with Android 5.1 later in its life. I just happen to have an earlier 4.4.2 version. Where might I find the official 5.1 ROM and flash it?
Edit: I have found some options that I will try at http://lg-roms.com/lg-firmware/lg-h410/h41010d/2879
I'm not having any luck @jwoegerbauer . It turns out 4.4.2 was the latest official ROM for this phone.
Would you be able to assist a little? If you were me, where would you look first (as in URLs) to get a custom Android 6 ROM and recovery?
I'd like to update to Android 6 or higher. All the apps I want to install require Android 6+.
I'd just need to make sure it can recognise input from the LG Wine Smart D486 keypad.
