I can't install tr.apk on my device! Why?
"Unknown sources" and usb debugging = V
Perhaps antivirus?

Doesn't work on any kernel version past June of last year. Should put that in your OP since this is widely known. It will never be updated to work either because geohot was picked up by Google to help them find the exploits and patch them.

Flash an older kernel with Odin, root with towelroot, flash the current kernel. That's how we've all been rooting the T530 and T530NU (and I'm sure other models too).

Yes that's how we do it on the AT&T version of Note 3 and S5 also, I was just talking about the instructions in OP not specifying that as a step.

Hello,
Thank you for the nice thread.
I have 3 questions :
1) Does the phone need to be unlocked before starting ?
2) If no for Q1, will it be unlocked after the operation ?
3) If yes for Q2, ii it possible to relock later ?
Thank you.
Laurent
just a few questions @abadan
1. if you have tested it on your tab, what gives you assumption that it may work on PHONE?
2. why are you providing the third party source (placed in the domain greenroid.com, belonging to the Iran), instead of the original domain kingoapp.com, which is Chinese (and was several times claimed as suspicious?
IMHO, the app itself was several times mentioned as stealing the IMEI number, first.
Secondly, only the original source download gives more or less assumption that the app is (RELATIVELY) safe and updated to latest version.
Finally, the Chinese source of app was, as I mentioned previously, claimed several times to be unsafe. I'd be careful before I'd decide to trust another "very trustworthy" source...
No point using something like this... plus, it has been mentioned many time here on XDA, anyone who looking for an easy root solution should try the safe root first... no hassle and takes few min to get it done
I'm just wondering, is it expected that there will be some root method that supports 5.1.1 without tripping knox in the future?
I mean knox is not something new, do the older devices have something of that sort?
Or "ping-pong root" was just one exploit that only supported 5.0 and that's it?
It pisses me off that I'll lose my warranty if I'll root the phone, I don't understand why does unlocking the software of my device has to do with manufacture hardware defects, mainly because the stock firmware and kernel by Samsung suck as always.
I meant to post this in the Q&A forum, can a mod please move it?
There was a exploit found in the ping sockets in 5.0 kernel before March 5th. No body has found one for 5.1.1 yet. Without a exploit to get around the SElinux enforcing on our stock kernels you'd have to flash a recovery or custom kernel, both tripping Knox

So the s5 and the s4 devices which afaik also have KNOX, what you said applies to them as well?
This is annoying.
You never know but from experience someone always manages to bypass the security eventually, how long will it take? Could be tomorrow or next year....

So my friend handed me a Razr HD and I just found that it's on stock JB, totally exploitable. So I rooted with Towel root and tried to run the Motopocalypse apk without results for unlock bootloader. What am I doing wrong?

You need to flash the stock KitKat 4.4.2 ROM with version number v182.46.10 or 183.46.10, then use towelroot to root it and then finally motocalypse to unlock the bootloader. Further information may be found here...

thanks for everything. I don't made any moves apart of the Motocalypse APK and re rooted with Kingo since the root looked unstable, but now suddenly the bootlogo make sound but don't appear any image. The Motorola logo and fastboot show but the screen doesn't show anything after boot. Previuosly tried to flash a recovery using Rashr (my mistake) and now the stock recovery it's gone and RSD Lite show "error fastboot command" or something. I just dropped in a repair shop
Apologies for posting here but there is no forum for the LG Wine Smart (D486). Mine currently has stock 4.4.2 KitKat. Aw remember that? LG update app no longer functions correctly as it was shut down in 2020.
Is there any way to update this to 5 or preferably 6? There is an app I need that isn't compatible with Android 4.
You have to find
1. A Custom ROM suitable to phone ( specs: 1 GB RAM, 4 GB max storage )
2. If found, a Custom Recovery suitable to phone to flash the Custom ROM found
Many thanks. Sorry for the questions but if you were me, where would you look first?
Alternatively I wanted to make it clear that this phone officially shipped with Android 5.1 later in its life. I just happen to have an earlier 4.4.2 version. Where might I find the official 5.1 ROM and flash it?
Edit: I have found some options that I will try at http://lg-roms.com/lg-firmware/lg-h410/h41010d/2879
I'm not having any luck @jwoegerbauer . It turns out 4.4.2 was the latest official ROM for this phone.
Would you be able to assist a little? If you were me, where would you look first (as in URLs) to get a custom Android 6 ROM and recovery?
I'd like to update to Android 6 or higher. All the apps I want to install require Android 6+.
I'd just need to make sure it can recognise input from the LG Wine Smart D486 keypad.

Can I say both?
I have exhausted every root method that might work for the LG486 and nothing works properly. The most I can get is super user appearing in the app list but not properly installed. It wasn’t a very common phone so it’s understandable that there is no working route.
My end goal is to edit edit build.prop, so that android 4.4.2 appears to apps to be android 6.0. I need to install a certain app on the phone.
All the options found via Google for root either do not work or lead to broken file links. I have also tried Universal options like Kingo Root and Androot but they don't work at all.
Is there any universal root that I could try which is supposed to work with any phone?
Or is anybody able to help me route this phone? I’m happy to pay for assistance. Thanks.
Simply editing build.prop doesn't help, IMO, because the files that make the Android OS ( read: libraries ) mostly changes from SDK version to SDK version, means apps compiled for Android 4.4.4 may not working properly on 4.4.4 onwards, and reverse.
Probably won't... but might. I'm open to other solutions if you have any.

Probably some pop ups will emerge if you fake that Android version...
And that app you wanted to change probably has some reason why it needs be that 6+ ...

Unfortunately this only half worked on the LG D486 (Wine Smart).
SU is installed but reports "There is no SU binary installed"... and RootChecker confirms not fully rooted. I can't edit root items such as build.prop.
However on the download boot screen, it did say in small red text, "ROOTED" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Is anyone able to help fully root the LG D486?

Okay, you tested it already... maybe you should try it by hand then...
To see what's happening... lglaf.py might work if send_command.exe doesn't...
