[Q] Nexus 5 wont turn on - constantly on Google logo for few seconds - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Hope you guys can help.
I've had my Nexus 5 phone for 16 months now - generally worked great. Occasionally it dies and wont power up, but tends to be fine once you leave it charged for 10 minutes and give it a go a few times.
However, now, it wont boot up at all. It has a mind of its own of turning on and off every few seconds, and then just staying on the Google logo before switching off again.
Very occasionally it gets to the 4 circles but again shut offs after a few seconds.
I've read a few threads that suggest pressing Vol button and power on button. I've tried that and get to the android robot screen, but it switches off like 1 second after, so im unable to select any options.
Any ideas very welcome?
When I have connected to a charger, it constantly boots up and switches off the google logo after couple of seconds all by itself.
but if not connected to a charger, then it remains off unless I press power button or give it a little knock.
Thanks a lot

I had the same problem and what I found is that it is a power button that is stuck. What I did to get the phone back on is to continuous press the power button until the phone fully finishes booting. After that it should be OK, if not a good smack to s table can also help, no joke. I set my volume button to power on screen and use an on screen button to turn of because its hit or miss with the power button for me. Thought about getting it fixed but have no time.

I have this problem to. I sent it to service, but since its rooted, the wont repair it if I don't pay. It's baught from dustin.no, not Google Store
They say the motherbord is broken because of overload, because the rooting..... I have ordered a new powerbutton from Ebay, and will try to replace it if this solution doesn't work.
Can this be true, that the motherboard got broken because a rooted the phone?? I have never did anything else that rooting......

TF700 Crashed

Not really sure what happened, but I left my tablet alone for about 5 days. Had to plug it in to charge it back up obviously. The next day turned it on, and all I get is it vibrates once, than just vibrates infinitely screen is not turning on I think. I tried the reset button, recovery mode nothing happens just goes straight back to vibrating. It seems I can enter APX mode, since it vibrates once and than stops my computer sees it but cant find device software to install for it, and shows up on devices as "APX" unidentified.
I even popped it open, pulled the power connector for the board and backup battery let it sit for a day; plugged it back in and still same issue as before. I bought it 9 months ago in December only real issue before this, is that it froze a few times but went away on its on after a reset.

You can give this a shot...:fingers-crossed: you need to hold the power button + volume up for about 10 seconds. You will feel the first vibration and keep holding both buttons for another few seconds then you will feel the second vibration. After the second vibration, you need to release both buttons as the same time then wait for a few seconds after that. You can try to power it up and see if it works.. Please report back and good luck.. :fingers-crossed:

Potential Brick? help :(

Hey everyone, for some reason my S3 decided to take its last breath (hopefully not) today.. I had flashed Mastamoon's CM12 build for my Straight Talk S3 (SCH-S968C) today and got all successful messages as it was flashing but when I restarted it my screen did not want to come on for some reason. I have left it on the charger for the past 8 hours and there is no LED lit up to show that it is charging, the screen will still not come on or anything. I have tried to put it into download mode, recovery, and safe mode to no avail.. Connected it to my laptop to try and use ODIN to go back to factory defaults: no luck. Tried Kies and the Emergency Recovery: still no luck. Does anyone know of a potential fix or atleast a way that i can get the screen to turn itself on so i can attempt at ODIN again?

(For ****s and giggles I also pulled the battery and held down the power button to drain the power remaining in the phone and that has not done anything either when i reinserted the battery) :crying:
Edit: Sorry forgot a couple things. When I connect it to my laptop, my laptop will ding at me saying that it is connected. but it will not show up in my computer or disk management. It also went through the initial driver setup and still wouldnt show up.
I know that this is the Verizon S3 forum, but for this phone only the verizon roms have been working..
Take out the battery for like 20 sec hold down power and volume down until another screen pops up then press volume up
Or plug it in your laptop hold the buttons I told u until ding let off buttons and really quick press and hold them again

[Q] [HELP]: My Nexus 5 has a defective power button and is in constant boot loop

well, it is constantly off unless i plug it in. then it is in constant boot loop.
if i slam the phone onto a hard service directly on the power button it might boot up just to the main screen then shuts off again.
same with repeatedly pressing the button. as soon as i stop spamming the button, phone shuts off.
i am out of warranty time and do not want to wait to send it in and get it fixed by LG.
are there ANY other methods i can try?
thank you!
Flick the power button several times quite hard.

Unfortunately you don't have many options. The post above this one has the ifixit thread about replacing the board, which is your only option other than sending to LG for repair.
When this happened to me on my previous N5, it was recommended to me to use ButtonRemapper (search XDA for it) to disable the power buttons entirely and reassign them, then setup a tap-to-wake customization.
Again, I did not try this, and it's been a long time since then so who knows if these solutions even work, but it's a starting point at least for you to look into.

Nexus 5 with Android M Preview 3 isn't turning on

Hello.
I installed (via apk) a new Google Play Services version on my N5, the Google Play Services kept crashing every 10 seconds. I tried to reboot it to bootloader by holding down all 3 physical buttons but I let go of one to soon. The device turned on immediately and I immediately repress the button I had released just after the device turned on. Now my N5 is off and won't turn on. Please help!
Does it not even reboot into bootloader, from where you can restart? It might jog it into action.
Presumably it has enough battery? Have you tried charging for a while just to be sure and then trying to restart?
Clutching at straws here, but I know how frustrating no answers at all can be.

In fact I've just booted my N5 into bootloader from off, using only the power and volume down. No 3 buttons needed. Give it a go.
Press power off for 8-10 seconds till it reboots. Then all u need to do is hold the power button down and your BL will be up

Why would you do that for op lmao

N5 wont turn on- does not react to power/volume combos

Hey Guys,
sadly my Nexus 5 suddenly turned off and wont turn on again. When not connected to the charger it does not react to any button combinations. When connected it loops the google screen (the first one you see on boot, that shows whether phone is unlocked or not), but reacts to button combos, but still reboots into the loop immediately. The phone is charged and runs the latest cm13 snapshot.
Hope you guys can help!
Thanks and greetings from germany
Could be a power button problem.
Try gently tapping the power button against the edge of table to see if you can "unstick" it. If that doesn't work, open the phone and clean around the button.
Final solution may be to replace the power button.
