Hey guys!
These days I've started monitoring my cores on N9005 kitkat firmware (everything stock) and I've found that sometimes cores get stuck online and only a reboot fixes the issue.
EDIT !!! : PROBLEM SOLVED
*THE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY TOUCHWIZZ DVFS(DYNAMIC VOLTAGE AND FREQUENCY SCALING) SO THANK YOU SAMMY FOR THAT !
*THE ONLY WAY TO RESOLVE IT IF YOU ARE NOT ROOTED IS TO REBOOT WHEN YOU SEE THAT YOUR CORES DON'T WANNA GO OFFLINE(CHECK THEM WITH PERMOM OR SYSTEM MONITOR...ETC.)
*ANOTHER WAY IS TO ROOT AND WHEN THE ISSUE HAPPENS YOU CAN FIX IT BY RESETING MP-DECISION OR THE PERMANENT WAY IS TO INSTALL XPOSED FRAMEWORK AND THEN DOWNLOAD(DON'T FORGET TO ENABLE THE MODULE IN XPOSED AFTER YOU DOWNLOAD) FROM PLAYSTORE "SAMSUNG DVFS DISABLER" BY WANAM(JUST SEARCH IN PLAYSTORE THE WORD "DVFS" AND YOU WILL SEE IT - !
*OFC THAT AOSP OR CM BASED ROMS DON'T HAVE THE ISSUE !!!
BIG THANKS TO ALL THE GREAT GUYS ON LEAN KERNEL THREAD FOR CONTRIBUTING TO SOLVING THIS ISSUE
I've rooted and when the issue happens, disabling mp decision and enabling it again fixes the issue so this means that hotplug doesn't play well. Maybe a custom kernel will fix this issue.
I experience the exact same issue, but on completely stock 4.4.2 rom. I posted a thread about it a while back but no one answered it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2646389
I'm positive this is the reason for people's battery drain on stock roms.. Does the stock rom implement some form of hotplug functionality? It must be bugged somehow.
It still happens, and it has not fixed itself. The only way to fix it for me that I know if is a reboot..

Thanks, I figured it would be something along those lines.
However I'm fully stock with no plans to root because of the Knox-debacle.. So I guess I will have to stick to rebooting until Samsung fixes the issue

I don't think they will fix it because some users said that they have this issue since 4.3 and kitkat didn't fix it

Unfortunately this is also something I'm afraid will never get fixed. I noticed similar battery drain on 4.3 but never narrowed it down to cores bugging out until kitkat. Maybe I'll root anyway..

Dont work for me. I disabled DVFS yesterday in newest version of wanam xposed, rebooted and checked settings in wanam again. DVFS was unchecked, so I think it is/was disabled. But today´s morning, i had 2 core stuck online again, almost the same as the few issues before unchecking DVFS. So I think, it doesnt work for me. Note 3 SM-N9005...
I been trying to off dvfs. What I can see. It will always run high frequency. Phone get warm and using phone while charging took longer than usual.
Because I run games and always on screen plus charging. So turning off dvfs not a good idea.
Sent from my SM-N9005
I've been testing different firmwares with DVFS off since I started this thread and not once I have seen again 4 or 2 cores stuck online and battery is better than ever so for me this was definitely the cause of random 4 cores stuck online. Good luck !
I'll be trying this for a while. But yeah I did notice that power-saving CPU limiting option does not work if DVFS is off. Mine reaches maximum frequency
Strangely, the Wanam Xposed module never did its job for DVFS, though the standalone module does work, and both are from Wanam.
Do not settle for Wanam Xposed, it is a useful utility but not all features seem to work in Note 3. I.E, Volume UP while on Deep Sleep wont trigger the flashlight, even though you activated the feature, yet the standalone module just for that (again, from Wanam) works perfectly.

Yes. I too am using the standalone DVSF mofule from playstore but I remember testing wannam xposed on NB2 firmware and worked fine. I am glad that we found a way to fix this Sammy bug but I am disappointed that they didn't and I don't think they will ever do so this is probably my last Sammy device.

For those of you that don't know Viper4Android is the probably the best sound mod you can do on any android phone, I can confirm that it works on the Note 5 as my listening experience in the car has greatly improved
Prerequisites
-Must be rooted
-Skyhigh or arter97 kernel flashed
-If no custom kernel is flashed selinux must be set to permissive using the selinux app found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524485
-Download Viper4Android from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
Steps
1. Download and install this zip through recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...achment.php?attachmentid=3470840&d=1442036930 (Credits to Critical Detox for finding it)
2. Launch Viper4Android and install the driver and reboot
2a. I highly recommend using this IRS. http://d-h.st/VBM
That should be it to get it working, S6 users have commented that you have to freeze a couple of apps for it to work but I can confirm that's not the case. If you have any questions or need suggestions feel free to ask

I have had this working on every device, previously the S6 using a flashable zip.
Now I cannot get it to process when clicking on driver status it usually says "yes".
I am using a deodexed tmobile rom with Noble kernel. The SELINUX changer says I am permissive but viper4android doesnt want to work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Interesting. Are you running in compatible mode, then?
I envy all of you for getting to use Viper, I'm trying my best to hold out until I can try Samsung pay beta/release which ever comes first to me then I'll decide to root only after.
I've been wondering this for a while now. I noticed in the OP, there was a choice to use a custom kernel or stay with the stock one. Obviously, we need root to get Viper working BUT do we really need a custom kernel to root 5.1.1. On the Note 5? I'm asking because BOTH of my cars miss Viper from my Note 4 and I'm hearing the current Kernels are causing a few issues with the Note 5, thanks!

You can root using the Noble Kernel which is pretty much a stock kernel and then use the selinux app to change the kernel to permissive.

Thanks for the reply, Adolfo. Are you having any issues with the Noble Kernel? People are reporting things like battery drain, rebooting and or loss of certain features, Netflix not work, etc. I miss Viper but I would like to know that my phone would be fully functional after root. Also, it seems as if only a few Kernels work with the new firmware that was released yesterday.
Keeps getting more complicated. haha.

While I appreciate the help, Brava, I was responding to Adolfo's recommendation of using the Noble kernel due to it being close to stock. My question was if he's having any issues with that Kernel.
I've used Viper since it's inception so I'm fully aware that it has nothing to do with any of the aforementioned symptoms.
Thanks though.
Hey guys!
Power users already have custom kernels and ROMs, and it is possible to tune some advanced settings with and without root, so what did you modified on yours?
A lot of users reported performance issues and others just want more features, more efficiency, etc. Of course, there are those who just likes the device the way it comes from Motorola or don't want to void the warranty.
With all this diversity, I created this thread for we discuss what is the best setup for our device and how can we extract the best of it.
Curently mine is with stock ROM, Xposed, GravityBox and squid's custom kernel.
This setup provides me all Moto features, plus lots of features with GravityBox. I think that the performance is better, because I changed some settings with Kernel Adiutor.

Since each person uses a phone in a way, my idea was to create a space where people could tell which ROM, kernel, apps, themes and other things they use and share the benefits they get. This would make possible to all Moto X Play owners discover new things that could improve the user experience and everybody would win.
Stock rom, greenify, amplify (xda thread for great battery), lspeed mod. Works fine for me

But I remember that when I was on stock, I had no problems with audio neither before or after installing Xposed.
Ohh.. Alright, having never used an android device, how do you find the performance of the device on cyanogenmod compared to stock? Is it worth flashing?

Totally worth it! X Play doesn't have good performance with the stock ROM at this time. There are lags that we don't expect to find on a device at this price range. With Cyanogenmod the UI is very smooth. There are still some lags, but they're normal because we don't have a device with a Snapdragon 8xx. I can say you that with CM, the performance is just as good as you could expect of this hardware (and it's very good). If you are going to flash, I also recommend the squid kernel. It's great.
Here is the index of Moto X Play on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/17-10-t3227295

The only problem I *think* some people have is that on certain wi-fi networks, the wi-fi driver prevents the phone from sleeping. I said *I think* because I don't have this issue and because of this I'm not sure whether it's already solved or if the problem persists. I suggest you to read at least the last pages from the threads of CM and the kernel for you to be sure.
What I can say is that for my usage, I have absolutely no problems. Everything works fine.
i'm using RR 5.5.8 + squid kernel latest update, greenify + amplify, working fine

Flash TWRP, root the device then check this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/help/xposed-t3191338/post63940401 to be sure which version to use.
Basically, flash the zip provided and reboot :good:
For the first time waiting a little before rooting this phone, since 6.0 is rolling out soon.
As of today mine is running quite smooth on stock 5.1.1
Just disabled all unused/useless apps,
limited the connections and data usage with Netguard and Opera max.
Will keep you posted.
Was just wondering...
If you include other modifying apps like l speed or kernel adiuter to greenify, will they still remain effective? I thought it should but wasn't sure especially on reboot.
Thank you.

No, unlock bootloader means you lose widevine L1. Other even lose it forever because flashing persist.img and not even msmtool could restore. So be careful
For me every Phone i get i use this way :
1 : I look at the phone and see how it's really amazing check the box.. accessories.. and everything.
2: Root and install Magisk with custom recovery (immediately )
3: go through initial set-up, register my fingerprint and face lock, G account, and for me i like a fresh start on every new phone, no backup or anything.
4: Install my apps from Google play and see if there's any updates ( I disable some apps that i don't use in example Google movies & tv.. Facebook.. G photos)
5: I Go to settings and I change some functions, and from customization - tone i prefer my phone to be fully dark , Also i change the ringtone and some sounds and i disable both lockscreen, screenshot and dial pad sounds.
6: I take care of my home screen, I rearrange the icons widgets, And folders to the way i like. And my homescreen set up is the same on every phone, I like everything to be simple and( stockish).
And here are some information of my OnePlus 7 pro
Keyboard: SwiftKey
Launcher: OnePlus launcher
Magisk modes: only 2 ( 1 for iOS emojies and special font and 2 make the camera zoom up to 20x)
ROM: OxygenOS 10.3.2 based on Android 10
And that's it, Enjoy your new OnePlus 7 pro You will absolutely gonna love it

Could you update how's your experience with PA ? I flashed it last week used it for a few days and experienced battery drain issue from 80% to 30% in 2 hours of very light usage with only spotify playing in the backgroud. Also can you flash Elementalx kernel with PA?
For me, I'm running
- latest stock rom debloated all of the unnecessary oneplus services and apps
- magisk
- arter97 kernel.. It has been giving me better battery ( increased standby and screen on time.) and much better ram management (really noticeable) since I got the 6 gb ram and with stock kernel it just wasn't able to keep as many apps as arter
