I am hoping that someone can help. I am a bit of a mild Panic. See I had this wonderful idea, that I could downgrade my phone back to 4.4.4. So I booted into twrp to do a system reset, and am now unable to boot the phone at all (I think I may have deleted the system by mistake.). It comes up to a firmware update failure. I have searched the forums to find a solution and now feel like I am going around in circles. When I try to use ODIN to reload the original firmware I get the following trace:

According to the searches I have performed, I need to use Odin to flash the PIT file, but I cannot find were to download a copy of the pit file. I thought that I could extract a copy of the pit file from the ROM, but the tools/steps that are given to extract the img files don't seem to work. Does anyone know of where I can obtain a copy of the PIT file so I can reinstall the 4.4.4 Rom?
You'd have to get aomeone with kitkat to create a pit and send it to you... they have to know how. It really isnt hard at all.. but its the issue of findin someone who is willing to help..
I am installing the Android SDK which gives me a virtual android device. I am hoping I can import the ROM for kitkat ad create the PIT file from that.
Well if anyone has a PIT file for this phone they can email to me, that would be Wonderful. I found a android emulator, but I can't run it because i have a crappy built in video cart that only supports OpenGl 1.1.x and the emulation software won't work without version 2.0. So I am kind of stuck right now.
Ok... this is getting bad
Ok, I guess this should have been posted in the Q & A forum... sorry about that. I am really staring to loose hope.. I have been searching for 2 days to find a pit file for the Note Edge. I find pit files for other note series, but no the note edge, and right now, I can't load any firmware on the device, nada. The partition information has been completely corrupted. I don't know if a pit file for another note series, such as note 3 note 4 would work either. I was hoping I could use a virtual android but I can't seem to find a way to load the rom I want on the virtual android to then extract the pit. Any suggestions, aside from jumping off a cliff (no cliffs around), or taking a large hammer to the phone is welcome.
(At least I still have my humor)

Post in Q and A and hope that some kind soul links you with a .pit file..
Make sure to add the instructions to your posts..
In Terminal Emulator type "su"
Then type in "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/out.pit bs=8 count=580 skip=2176"
Then look for the .pit in your SD Card..
Good Luck to you sir. I would have posted it if I had KK.
I mean, it's REALLLLLLY DEAD
So I tried to download the pit file, and that pit file failed. I think that the partition table was so screwed up that the only hope was to rebuild it manually. Since I was getting /data errors when I was in twrp, I figured that I would try to create the file structure manually. I used adb shell to get to a bash (command prompt) and issued a make_ext4fs command. It took the command just fine. Then about 30 seconds later, the system shut down, and that was it. The unit will not turn back on. Period, full stop. I took the phone in to the service center and they could not get it to turn on either. Since it is still under warranty and since I have insurance, they are replacing it.
I doubtful that my make_ext4fs command killed it. when I tried to mount /data I got an error that /dev/block/blah blah was not found, and I used that when I entered the make_ext4fs command. So I think something else was seriously wrong with the device. I hope to get the new phone tomorrow or thursday and with any luck, it will still have 4.4 on it.
Thanks for all those that helped.
The one thing no one said about your attempt to downgrade was that when uou went to lollipop you changed the bootloader. You had to to get it installed. Your attempt to go back to KK was going to fail. Ive not yet seen any attempt to go back successful. Did you try reinstalling lollipop? Or were you only trying to get KK? And with as much as happened with your phone they are actually replacing it? You rooted and bricked your phone. That's amazing

After flashing 5.01 I would've rebooted into recovery and cleared cache and it would boot then.

So, back to the original issue. If someone updates to LP, and then wants to flash BACK to a KK firmware, even if they have the appropriate KK PIT file, the flash will fail as the bootloader CANT be downgraded?

Well, this is my first pass at this. I believe this is a valid Odin flashable tar. (First time making one)
Let me know if it works.
Disclaimer:
This ROM is untested and should be considered unsafe until someone is able to flash via one of the two methods below. CWM is not yet available. I know that a couple of people have soft bricked their phones which is why I'm making this available to try out. If you don't heed this warning, be prepared to innocently disavow any knowledge of why you are now holding a paperweight as you try to exchange your bricked device...
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Features:
-Based on the stock UCKD5 system dump obtained from my Infuse
-Rooted
-Busybox
Instructions:
Odin
This should be an Odin flashable file. Just unzip and grab the tar.
If you don't know how to use Odin, search through the forums, there is more than enough info out there.
OR
Heimdall
unzip SGHI997_UCKD5_rooted.zip
tar xvf SGHI997_UCKD5_rooted.tar
heimdall flash --kernel zImage --factoryfs factoryfs.rfs --modem modem.bin --cache cache.rfs --dbdata dbdata.rfs --param param.lfs
Download:
SGHI997_UCKD5_rooted.zip
Sbl.bin, boot.bin, pit.pit are available in additional.zip
efs.rfs in efs.zip

I have been a quiet lurker for quite awhile. With this new device, I thought I could really contribute from the onset. A number of people have asked where to send donations... Don't feel obligated but if you really want to...

Not sure if this is still just me or if it's a problem somewhere else.
Edit-It begins loading the cache (I see green!!) and then fails.
I have the following files as well, but they didn't seem to be necessary for Odin or Heimdall...
However, if someone wants them, I can post.
The files are:
Sbl.bin
boot.bin
pit.pit
Maybe try posting up the .pit?
The additional files are attached to the first post.
im gonna try da_dr8's method to change the startup image in param.ifs
wish i had more confidence that the everything works before hand though
So I put the pit file in and the PDA file and it failed after cache, so now I'm stuck at pc2computer screen. No biggie if a brick, I will just return it. but i've tried a jig with no success(assumed it'd work the same as captivate), and random combos of the 3 button combo. Nothing to get back to download mode yet.
Is this still unproven?

Ok last edit I swear.
Maybe you should first try to ODIN the stock kernel instead of a system dump.

Download the source and it has the kernel in it.

that's good to hear. i wonder what the issue is. there may need to be a version designed for the infuse. i heard odin is built with the phone and that you should only use on version on each phone. adam outler said use v1.7 on the captivate even though everything from v1.0 to v1.82 has worked on my captivate.
yea, we're still troubleshooting the vibrates. But, it looks like my dbdata partition that i posted in that Odin .tar was bad first of all. second of all, heimdall appears a little more forgiving than Odin. we'll have to figure out how to get the Odin package working once the vibrate piece is figured out and remedied.

The kernel is fine in the Odin flash. The problem appears to be dbdata or another .rfs parition. Troubleshooting it so it works with heimdall flawlessly first. then moving to Odin.
Thanks a ton to realityfalse for pretty much all his time this evening and his assistance in getting this figured out thus far .
So basicallly yesterday i tried rooting my sgs4g. I read the bible and the noob flash guide but some how i still messed up. Using super one click i was able to root the phone without any problems. I hooked the phone up to odin 1.7 and tried flashing one of the stock roms recommended in the noob guide to flashing but odin would not finish the flashing sequence and only states that the complete write operation failed. I was freaking out after about four hours and was literally trying tons of .tar files ive tried two from whitehawx off here the two from the noob guide aand no dice i dont know. i know the phone is in download mode i got that down yesterday lol but i still can not complete the flash. I have both 32 and 64 bit drivers installed on my computer but i cannot complete any type of flash. I can turn the phone on but it has no data and vibrates almost every ten seconds. It does say its still on 2.21 but baseband is unknown and kernal is stock i believe. i can pull the number when i get home. I am lost at this point im just tryilng to get back to stock or anything that makes the phone usable again. thanks in advance to any one who helps i wil donate...lol

Start with the basics - a factory data reset. See if that helps.
Also, you should not have/need both 32-bit & 64-bit drivers on your PC. That potentially is a conflict within itself. What operating system are you on? If it's 32-bit, only have those drivers. If it's 64-bit, only use those. I'd uninstall them both and then reinstall a clean set based on your OS.
Look for ODIN 1.85. It's out here somewhere. I've had more luck with it than 1.7.
Let me know how things go with this. If you're not working after trying to go this route let us know and we'll push forward.

Do you have multiple USB ports on your computer? Make sure you are plugged into one that goes directly to the CPU motherboard - one on the back. I have had issues trying to flash through USB ports that are on the front of a computer. Odin will recognize your phone, but it will freeze during flash. Just something to check.
I'm on windows 7. I have tried every usb on the laptop lol i've had a long time to try it out. So since I'm on windows 7 I should delete the 32 bit right? Not necessarily. Win7 can be either 32 or 64-bit. If you're not sure, right-click on your Computer/My Computer icon, and go to Properties. I believe it tells you there. I don't have a Win7 PC in front of me so I can't be 100%.

I haven't looked at the KB5 ROM. Does it come with multiple files (pit, pda, csc, phone)? If so, all you should have to do is put the files in the right slots in ODIN, don't mess with the check boxes, and flash it.

I've never used KB5 before. What if you were to try something a bit more updated?
If you want to stay Froyo you can grab the stock KD1 from:
http://hotfile.com/dl/120929051/0ea3e13/T959VUVKD1.rar.html
IF you want to go Gingerbread, you can grab chadster's KG4 from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183413
Like Exodian alluded to, you have to make sure you have the files in the right places. Let us know what you're doing. If you can snag a screen shot of ODIN and post it, that might help too.
T959VKB5-Custom (1) in the pda file

Cool. That was the first Gingerbread leak that came with the right boot loaders. What you're going to want to do is:
- Put CODE_T959VUVKG4_CL1385158_REV00_user_low_noship.tar.md5 into PDA
- Put hawk_Sidekick_VibrantPlus_831.pit into PIT
- Put SGH-T959V-CSC-TMB-VIBRANTP.tar.md5 into CSC
- Put T959VUVKG4-Phone-CL1037720.tar.md5 into Phone
Don't mess with any of the check boxes, and flash.
Let us know how it goes.

After Oden Failed I was stuck in Download Mode.
After a bit it went to " Firmware Upgrade Encountered an issue. Please Select Recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Kies nor Oden recognize the phone anymore...
I came to realize I have a SGH-I727 ERRRR
Anyways I am stuck at this
"ODEN MODE
Product name: SGH-I727
Custom Binary Download: NO
Current Binary: Samsung Official
Firmware Upgrade Encountered an issue. Please Select Recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Is there anyway to get back to factory or root from here a proper way?
Congrats as you are the first victim.
Just wanted to say Congrats you are the first victim of the i777/i727 confusion.
My suggestion is to follow exactly what it tells you to do.
Download Kies 2.0
And hopefully you can recover
OR
Maybe you can just power off and power on the device and see if it will boot maybe Odin never got a chance to write anything.
Thanks
Well
I managed to Find different Kernal to use on Oden

3. Turn off your phone or pull battery and put back in
4. Hold both of the volume keys and plug in the USB cable while still holding the volume keys
5. You will be prompted with needed input. This is now the correct time to make up your mind LOL
6. Open the ODIN window from which we earlier launched
7. Select PDA then browse to the file i727UCKJ2_STOCK_KERNEL.tar.md5
8. ENSURE THAT ONLY **AUTO REBOOT** & **F.RESET TIME** & OF COURSE **PDA(which you just clicked to select the kernel tar)** ARE CHECKED AND NOTHING ELSE
9. Now click START
10. Once the process has completed the phone will have rebooted and you should see "PASS" at the top-left of ODIN. YOU CAN NOW UNPLUG YOUR PHONE AND ENJOY THIS LOVELY STOCK KERNEL!!
****I HAVENT PERSONALLY TESTED THIS AS OF YET BECAUSE I AM AT HOME SO I CANNOT GUARANTEE IT WILL WORK****
I extracted the kernel from the boot.img, created the tar, created the md5 and zipped up the created kernel md5 tar with ODIN and there you have it.
Please give feedback after using it so I can ensure that all is well. ENJOY GUYS!

Very sorry for the failure man. I have my skyrocket now so will be able to figure out what went wrong shortly.
Did you right-click Odin and run as administrator? Could be the culprit. Also I have double checked over the files, pulled kernel from my phone and compared to kernel used in my Odin and they are identical.... Reran the steps to create the Odin tar and file size matches the one already created ???? Wtf!!
Now i'm wondering if there is a specific version of Odin to be used with our phones because besides that i'm stumped at the moment. Any input?

You have to use the t-mobile sgs2 root method. There is a windows batch file that entire process so easy that I caveman could do it

I personally rooted my SR long before the forum was established... I was probably the first one that did it, and the first to post my results in the I777 sections.
But unlike most people.. I DO READ and study all the possible facts...
I mean it sucks that he is stuck... but hey.. **** happens
As for helping we can only do so much as of what we have. Without a source code or/and a full original dump of the ROM.. it's really hard to "fix" a problem.

Worked using Oden 1.85
I am back to Factory with no issues
SOLUTION: I was trying to run Odin in a VMWARE Fusion Virtual Machine. Make sure you are running ODIN on a true windows machine and this should help with rom flashing issues like this one. I borrowed a friend's windows laptop and BOOM! SUCCESS! I'm still a little confused as to why it worked last night on the virtual machine but it doesn't matter now. Please don't hit me too hard with your tomatoes... sneaks out the back door...
I've been lurking on these forums for years (since I had an Epic 4g Touch) and I really respect and applaud the work you all do on here. I'm really in tough times right now with my brand new GS5 and don't know where to go or what to try. I got my phone last week and before doing any OTA updates I tried to flash CF Auto Root. I used the OEM 3.0 cable that comes with the phone and ODIN failed. This left me at a soft-brick with the device only going into download mode and giving me the error message, "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." I've had no luck at all connecting my phone to KIES. This was last saturday. I tried restoring using stock samsung firmware but ODIN failed every time.
Fast forward to last night.
I bought a Micro USB 2.0 cable and decided to try to flash Samsung stock firmware using it.
SPR-G900PVPU1ANCB-20140411173003 is what I tried flashing using the 2.0 cable. I used ODIN v 3.09 and IT WORKED. My phone completed successfully and restarted. Once I got to the homescreen I noticed that everything seemed to be back to normal. I had no data loss or anything.
I SHOULD HAVE STOPPED HERE AND BEEN HAPPY... but now I was feeling overly confident since this new cable seemed to be the fix for the problems.
I updated the phone OTA twice to the latest firmware, NE5.
Then I tried to flash Phil's CWM recovery and put the SU zip on my phone storage following the instructions on a thread here.
The ODIN flash of the CWM Recovery FAILED and now I think I'm back to where I was before. I cannot seem to flash anything through ODIN (stock firmware, custom recovery, root).
I have tried flashing NE5 stock firmware and the original NCB firmware with no success. I cannot access recovery, just download (odin).
At the top reads:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SM-G900P
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
SYSTEM STATUS: OFFICIAL
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0X1 (4)
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (CSB)
RP SWREV: S1, T1, R1, A1, P1
UDC START
followed by
"firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
I know you all are the most knowledgeable android group on the net so if I can't figure this out here then i'll just accept my stupidity and eat the cost of a new phone.
Thank you all very much for your patience and support.

Also, Here is what I'm seeing in ODIN when trying to flash anything

You're replying to a seven month old post, and it says solved in the OP. What specifically are you having a problem with?
Im also having the same issue, the s5 we have here does the same thing, I may try a win 7 pc since the pc I was using is 8.1 x64
odin fails almost instantly when flashing stock items over to the phone via Odin.
i can either get to the download screen or the firmware error screen and thats it....testing win 7 now.
here is what im getting ....win 7 didnt seem to make a difference.
been looking for the CSC and other files not bundled in a all in one and havent been able to find them for the SM-G900p

Sounds like you guys in the last couple of posts are on a build newer than oa6. If that is the case, you can't flash oa6 or older firmware any longer.
I had the same thing finally solved by downloading file from sammobile.com.

Which version did you download?
Edit: all I get now is the 'Samsung' splash screen. Also, the only firmware that does not fail in Odin is the OG1 version but it won't boot.
Any help would be appreciated. I just need to get it to stock or something. I can get to the recovery if that helps too.

You're Welcome.
I have a galaxy S6 Edge which you could probably tell from the model number and I recently rooted it. After realizing that my phone was very very sluggish after the root, I decided to unroot it. I have the proper stock firmware for my device downloaded on my computer (Lollipop 5.1.1) but when I tried to flash it manually through Odin I received this error:

I was surprised to find that this flash wasn't successful because I've flashed this firmware on the phone multiple times with ease. After looking around on google for quite some time, I haven't yet found a solution witch is the reason why I am writing this post. I am not sure how to fix this error and would really appreciate some help. Thanks
This is the file I downloaded from SamMobile's website:

This is a screenshot of the Odin after running the flash:

You could pull the stock kernel from the OH1 tar and flash that.

Just extracted the recovery img and archived into a tar file and flashed that. Not really sure what it did, but I tried to flash the 5.1.1 update again and still no hope.

Well if you started out on OI1 you may have hard bricked your phone because you can't roll back from that version and the OI1 Odin firmware isn't available yet
But I was able to flash the root and flash the 5.1.1 update multiple times before this.

Not understanding you. We're talking firmware here. There's a lot of firmware versions for 5.1.1 if you were on OI1 you can't go back
Ok, regardless of that, is there any way to unroot my phone and go back to stock firmware?
EDIT: I did a factory reset in hopes that the problem would go away. After the reset I was still rooted so I tried to flash the 5.1.1 firmware and it still wouldn't work >.<

Read the threads and do your homework because obviously you're not understanding. It depends what firmware you were on. You keep saying 5.1.1, but there are 3 firmware versions for 5.1.1. Until you figure out which one you were on I can't help you. That's critical information. If you were on on OI1 and tried to downgrade to one of the other 2 then you're pretty much screwed. I suggest you read up on the difference between android versions and firmware versions. I can't help you if you don't provide me with the needed information. 5.1.1 isn't telling me anything. The last 3 firmware versions were 5.1.1. Good luck

I hope you realize that the reason I am posting on these forums in the first place is probably because I don't know what I am doing.
