[Q] M preview + Google restore = no icons? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have done a fresh install of M this morning, and google has restored all of my apps and setting. However, most icons on the home screen are appearing as the default android green droid. The icons look fine in the new style app drawer. Any idea how or if I can bulk update all of the home screen icons rather than removing and replacing? I have a fair few folders, and it would take ages!

Pertamax gan
but bootloop on r800x
Very nice. Thanks!
Ok, no matter how i move them around, icons refuse to go into the 5th row. The last row remains empty and the icons just keep moving around like before in the 4x4.
Edit: Clearing data for sony ericsson home in settings, applications did the trick.
Now there's another problem. It's a 3 screen home, but if you slide the third screen to the left you can see a music player widget on the 4th screen! Since i can't use this 4th screen, i can't access the widget to delete and hence can't add a music widget on the other 3 screens. Will update if i figure this one out.
Edit2: Here are my findings. When coming from a 4x4 app-drawer launcher, you will need to clear data for SE home in order to properly use this 5x4 launcher. However, clearing data causes the default widgets to be installed in the various screens, which includes the music widget in the 4th screen, which cannot be accessed since this is a 3 homescreen launcher and so you cannot add the music widget to the accessible 3 screens. The only solution i can think of is to install a 4 or 5 screen 5x4 app drawer launcher, then clear data, then delete the widgets from the 4th screen, then install the 3 screen version of the 5x4 launcher. Hope this didn't confuse the $hit out of everyone, but it's as clear as i could put it. I'm now going to try and edit this launcher to make it 5 screens.
Edit3: FIXED! by editing the apk to 5 screens, installing that, clearing data, now you have 5 rows in app drawer and default widgets in homescreens. Delete all widgets and install the 3 screen apk in 1st post.
@w4lkm4n would you mind telling me what's the difference between your mod and the ones in this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1519742

See this guide.
You need two home apk files, one with 5-screens and one with your final requirement (4/3/2 or 1).
First install the 5-screen one, clear data, delete all widgets from all screens.
Then install the lower screen one. DO NOT clear data now.

To answer your question, i don't use many sony widgets, but what i do, like music and data monitor work fine.
Since the OP has closed this thread, maybe you should try some other launcher mod like THIS one.

sortcut/custom icon maker that does not act like a widget in ICS

in honeycomb i used folder organizer to add custom icons to apps and then i used the FO Item shortcut to add them to the desktop. now it had a custom icon and worked just like a regular shortcut.
now, in ICS, it's making them into widgets instead of shortcuts. or at least thats what i'm assuming. on a reboot the new icons all said loading instead of just showed up like my older ones.
additionally when you press on them, they don't get the slight glow around them like normal shortcuts, but instead get a box around them like a widget.
it was NOT like this in honeycomb so now i'm forced to find a new app to use. desktop visualizer works, but it shrinks all the icons down.
anyone have any apps that are working properly for custom icons?

[Q] Replace app drawer icons

A few months ago i started an icon setfor my own use. I kept updating them and now I have enough to replace most of my app drawer icons.
I'm running brainmasters black cm9. I flashed the Minimal Icons Theme but there are to few icons available for my taste.
I managed to replace the system app icons with my own succesfully using the script but whenever I replace any normal app icon (like barcode scanner) the app dissapears from the drawer.
Anyone know how to go about flashing non-system app icons?

[Q] What's the point of homescreen?

You see it's not that big different from app drawer if you don't put widget on it
I never use it my screen is always on app drawer
Well i will use home screen if app drawer have black background
Google play even automatically make icons on home screen for you
I set auto put to home screen off and remove all apps on my home screen afterward
Then i remove widget too i don't see any point of using clock widget if there's already one on my notification
So what's the point of home screen?
Just app drawer duplicated with widget?
btw stock touchwiz launcher

I find it is usefull to quickly access apps whilst not being packed with apps I rarely use
Do whatever you want with it. This is Android, after all, not iOS.
That's what makes us different than IOS Haha

Why are my new home screen icons added to the (non-existing) second page when installing a new app?

Is it possible to change this behavior that the home screen icon for newly installed apps gets placed on the second page every time?
I've just flashed my SM-N986B back to original stock (reverting A11->A10 because of missing GoodLock support) but the icons still get placed on the second page.
-There is a lot of free space for icons on the "main/only page" of home
-I've even deleted all the pages (only home remained) , but after installing any new app there is a new page created and the icon gets placed there
-In DEX there is no option to rearrange the phone home icons and its annoying to move the icons one by one for every application I install
I've tested this on OneUI 3, OneUI 2.5, CPL and BlackBerryLauncher but found no solution.
Thank you in advance for any suggestion!

I don't know why it adds new apps to a second home screen when there is room on the existing home screen, but you can disable the behavior by going into home screen settings and disable the option to add new apps to the home screen.
