[Completed] [Q] Wifi Hotspot hack charges for sprint? - XDA Assist

Okay, so I have sprint with unlimited data and I was wondering if that means I have unlimited data to use for Hotspot? Is there a limit to how much I should use or does that vary on plans?

Thank you!

you have to pay an additional charge to use the hotspot (without using one of the exploits posted here on XDA). I've successfully ran a disabled carrier check to use wifi tethering without paying for years without any issues. If you have an unlimited data plan, you will have unlimited data on your tethering, at least when using the exploit method. Keep in mind that in most cases "unlimited" really means: First X GB at LTE speeds and everything past that is at 3G speeds

I mostly asked for piece of mind. I use it to stream Netflix on my ps4 and download updates and games which would use tons of data. Didn't want to see a huge bill at the end of the month. Btw, I am using the wifi Hotspot hack for the galaxy 6 edge.

[q] at&t new data charges for tethering

I'm grand fathered in to the AT&T Unlimited Data plan $30 extra a month. I just received a letter telling me that due to my tethering usage, they will automatically enroll me into a 4GB monthly tethering plan and add extra charges. It doesn't make sense to have an unlimited data plan if you can't use it for tethering. You've paid for the data so what difference does it make if you use it for tethering.
Any feedback would be well appreciated and also if there is any app that can mask the tethering mode of your device so they think its only the device using the data.

Lol I know right.
I am not amused by your phones performance
This has been covered too many times to count in the past few months. Bottom line is read your TOS. Unlimited data was started for the business user that had to use alot of data while away from his PC. Not for the person wanting to tether.

[Q] Grandfather Tethering

I search the site for answers for this question but, unable to find the answers. I currently have a Motorolla Droid 3 on the big V which I was able set up to use my grandfathered unlimited data plan to tether to my Laptop when I was unable to use my wifi. I would like to up grade to a Samsung Galaxy 4 and I was wondering if I would be able to accomplish the same situation again? I do not want to pay an additional $30 for a new upgrade plan in addition to my phone's data plan - Ideas?
Thank You

Sprint Nexus 5 and Wifi-tethering

I've searched around and wasn't able to find legitimate info on the subject - plus most of it was months old so I wasn't sure how to trust it.
Just trying to clear some things up.
If I want to get mobile hotspot for free, will rooting do the trick? Or does it still charge me because the Nexus comes unlocked? I've seen that it will instead take the data from your unlimited plan rather than charge you per/whatever for using hotspot without buying it.
Anyway, if someone can clear this up for me I'd appreciate it!
TL;DR, if I root, can I get hotspot for free or does it still charge?

rooting has nothing to do with your hotspots. all root does is give you permission to access system level files(and change them). sprint sees when you are on their network, as soon as your phone connects to it, for regular data use and as a hotspot. if you have an unlimited data plan with them, and they dont charge extra to use your phone as a hotspot, then cool. i know that tmobile doesnt charge for hotspots, unless you have unlimited high spped data. then they limit your hotspot usage to 2.5gb for free, then charge you if you want more usage.
Are you sure? I saw people in this thread talking about some work around - people saying that rooting and such would let you use the mobile hotspot for free and that it would take data from your unlimited data plan rather than charging you for using data on your hotspot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/nexus-5-sprint-tether-hotspot-t2509613/page10
I thought all paying for hotspot did was unlock it (on Sprint at least) and all data used would just come from your unlimited data.
Depends on the ROM. Stock you need to add tethering_dun_required with value of 0 to providers.settings SQL global database. Search and you'll find more info about this. But custom ROMs such as Liquid and Slim don't need it and tethering with Sprint works right away.

I only have experience with Sprint. I have an unlimited plan and I would still need to pay another $10 for them to "activate" WiFi tethering. Luckily if you are rooted you can do it yourself. Just follow the directions, it works great. You do not have to transfer any files to/from your computer if you buy a sqlite editor from the play store...

You answered your own question.
The link I posted is the OP of that thread. Just buy the sqlite editor on the play store, it is worth it.

[Q] t-mobile wifi hotspot use

I have unlimited data, but only 5gb hotspot through T-Mobile. I ihave an lg g2 that is rooted. Does anyone know how to use the unlimited data plan for the hotspot abiltiy instead of the 5 gb? I am at my limit and it is now blocked for use until next month. I am ultimately trying to connect my ps3 to it for netflix and gaming. Thank you!

Yep. My question: Is it possible to root/flash a rom onto a phone, say a nexus, and get unlimited tethering with Verizon as opposed to the 10gb that's included in the plan? I'm going to take into account the taxes/fees tacked onto the $80 monthly fee before jumping ship, but I'd also like the option of tethering a bit over the 10gb allotment once in a while.
Oh, and if history has taught us anything, they can still kick us off the plan whenever they'd like. All they did up until now was increase prices and remove subsidies for it.
I am still grand father in my old unlimited plan

So FoxFi's still the tethering app of choice for many, I see.
I'll more than likely give Verizon a second look later into the year when it's time to get a new phone.
As a Pixel XL user with Verizon UDP, keeping tethering is now a hassle for some of us. Tethering worked great with workarounds until the new patches started coming out. Between losing root when taking new updates and not being able to use a non-root tethering app; I'm at the point of giving up and just going with the new UDP plans.
Reasons that make the New UDP seem acceptable:
> you can buy more and more data
> no capping of video service quality while under your cap
> when going past your cap, you are only throttled if the tower is under high utilization (not sure if this is true) (so theorhetically you can maintain high level of service past your cap during non-peak times)
> rollover data
> 10GB of tethering tossed in
Benefits
> can use the upgrade pricing for phones instead of having to bring your own to the table
> dont worry about root and tethering and taking updates, etc... hassle free
> non-rooted phone I can use my Maas360 and android pay and other apps that dont work while rooted
Is there any draw back (outside of VZW could be lying)?

I echo this question.
On the grandfathered unlimited plan, the stock rom had a subscription check where, if you weren't signed up for the tethering add-on, verizon would block hotspot from working. Custom roms got rid of the subscription check so you could have unlimited tethering.
With the new plan, will there be a workaround to hide the fact that you are tethering? Does foxfi do such a thing?
I know that when I was on the t-mobile walmart 5gb plan, they had an absolute prohibition on tethering non-mobile devices, and there was no workaround without paying extra.
So FYI verizon is fazing the old unlimited plan customers and either u switch to ther new unlimited or they are going to shut ur service off

I've been using FoxFi, with the new UDP, for about a week now. I've already exceeded 10gb while tethering and have not seen my speeds throttled.

Where did you hear this? I haven't heard this anywhere. Why would they shut down the $350+ i pay for my plan? Anyhow, what I'm wondering is, I have a rooted lg v20 on the old udp & can get ulimited tethering using portable wifi hotspot but it does open the native hotspot, so will verizon know how much data I'm using on tether if I switch & throttle me?
