[Q] OnePlus One on CM11 Wont work with OBD2 ELM327 Bluetooth / Torque App - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a cheap ELM327 OBD2 Bluetooth adapter that works fine on my old Rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 on factory ROM with CWM Recovery Android 4.1.2, but when I try the same adapter on my new Rooted OnePlus One on Factory CM11 Android 4.4.4 with TWRP Recovery it gets a lot of errors under adapter status and will show timeout errors when trying to clear ECU fault codes. I know the adapter is good because it will still work fine with my old S3 but I would prefer it work with my new everyday carry phone.
I've read that there were some compatibility issues with the Torque Pro app with CM10 Bluetooth drivers but can't find anything about CM11 issues, or if the drivers had ever been fixed. I have the latest version of the Torque Pro app but have also tried previous versions with no success. It will read codes from the car's ECU but sometimes quits reading before the percentage goes to 100% (around half way through) so I don't know if it has read all of the codes that were on the ECU or not. When trying to clear fault codes it quits halfway through showing a timeout message, sometimes it still clears the check engine light from the car but not always.
I've tried checking / unchecking "Faster communication" and "Disable ELM327 auto timing" as others have suggested with no success. I was just wondering if anyone else had run into these issues on the OnePlus One or on other phones with or without CM11 and figured out a fix for this. I did some searching but couldn't find any solid cures.

I'm using this one. Working fine with 5.1.1
So it must be problem with CM11

That's the same kind of adapter I'm using. Mine still woks with my old deactivated S3 but I would like to get it working with my OnePlus One since its the phone I now carry around everyday...

It's a mystery problem, i had it too. Sometimes it starts sometimes it doesn't. No idea why. Try another app like Dash Command, i find that it works better than TORQ with the Oneplus

Bluetooth - phonebook not available

So I got my Nexus 5 today and have spent most of the afternoon tinkering with it. When I came to drive home, I paired it with my car (2012 Holden Cruze) and just like my Nexus 4 before it, it tells me there is no phonebook available, so I can't call anyone from the car. Also the car's call / disconnect buttons don't work.
I had exactly the same scenario with the Nexus 4 and ended up running CM10 on it, as bluetooth worked fine in that ROM. Clearly, CM has some different bluetooth code ..... my question is, does anybody know how to make this work? Can we somehow extract the bluetooth code from a CM10.2 / 11 ROM and install it into stock? I would really like to stay on stock.
I am interested in finding this out too, I have tried all sorts on my Nexus 4 but with no success. I don't seem to get the request from the car to access the phonebook on stock 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4 but get it straight away with CM10.1 :crying:

Bluetooth Media Issue

I've searched extensively and can't seem to find the specific answer I'm looking for. Ever since my phone updated to 5.1.1 my Bluetooth media connection won't work, just my call audio. This really pisses me off because I JUST bought a new head unit for my car so I could stream audio from my phone. My phone is not rooted and I wasn't planning on going through the hassle of rooting this one. Is there a fix without rooting? If not, will rooting and flashing a custom ROM fix the issue? I see there are some marshmallow ROMs already out.
I'm on 5.1.1 and have to power on and off my Bluetooth adapter half the time. Phone doesn't connect to data wifi or blue tooth in till adaptor is rebooted. Says it's connected.
I've tried it. Turned off bluetooth and turned it back on, as well as went into the bluetooth settings and turned "call audio" and "media audio" off/on multiple times. For less than a second if I have music playing it will play through the car and then the phone kicks media audio off again.
After I'm connected, I can take a call and music resumes. I've had problems with some apps that updates have fixed. But not what your describing. Maybe one of the auto connect apps from the play store?

You cannot root the phone even if you wanted to because of the locked bootloader. Do you have the latest firmware update for your head unit? If not see if updating it may help. I have a top of the line Kenwood NAV head unit that worked without a hitch on my S4. When I got the S6 calls worked fine but I couldn't get audio to work. I found a solution on a Kenwood support site and now it works without any issues. Somehow settings were changed when I switch from the S4 to the S6. Also could there be an issue with your mobile data?

Mirrorlink + Car Mode not working

I purchased the S7 hoping to utilize my head unit on my 2014 Honda Civic. I installed RockScout to ensure SOMETHING would show up and it did. I installed Car Mode through the Galaxy app store, and the app shows up under the Mirrorlink "menu" in settings under MirrorLink applications. One would think that this would mean it should show up on the car's screen when connected, but alas it does not.
Is there something I'm missing? Has anyone else been able to get this to work?
solved... somewhat
So I found a solution for those who may be having the same issue.
--- I guess I can't post links yet because I'm so new.. go to youtube and use this video id to watch: xEaR97-ETeM ---
surprisingly, this seems to have made the car mode work for me.
Perform the steps shown in the video,
Open Car Mode on your phone
Connect the phone to the car via USB
Select one of the available MirrorLink apps (in my case it was Rock Scout)
The chosen app will open and the Car Mode nav bar will appear on the left. Now you can just hit it's home button and you're taken to Car Mode.
Now I need to figure out how to get Google Maps to work on Car Mode. Currently, it looks like it only supports navigation apps that Mirror Link supports
(I'm assuming due a head-unit-display-UI not being available on Google Maps.. probably legal reasons there)
What is the title of the youtube video? I tried your link and it did not work out for me.
When I connect the Galaxy S7 to my stereo, the Samsung automatically locks on the Mirrorlink connection screen, it will not let me navigate way.

still this is strange, car mode is visible under mirrorlink certifications yet it is not visible when phone is connected to car radio
Having the same problem. 2016 Subaru Crosstrek with factory head unit. Couple mirror link apps are working fine but car mode does not show up on the head unit at all. Really want it so I can use google maps on the bigger screen.
Running a Sony XAV-601BT and same issue. It shows as connected (however get a USB device not recognized error), tried the tricks above and no dice Really disappointed so far, as my old Z2 worked fine.
Found some info in the Subaru forums. Sounds like MirrorLink 1.1 is more strict about what it allows to display. So 1.0 just kinda mirrored everything, 1.1 actually checks to make sure you don't wiggle your way into another app. Since Car Mode isn't allowed by the car, even though its MirrorLink certified, it gets blocked... Sigh...

Yes, MirrorLink 1.1 also requires each specific app to be certified before it can be displayed. I don't think Google is going to support this ever, since they are pushing their own Android Auto.
Would LOVE to see a workaround for this, purchased a mirrorlink addon for my Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS and it doesnt work properly grrr
Grrr "Smartphone Not Compatible" when trying to connect Samsung Galaxy s7 to Honda Civic 2016...Applications are certified, USB in MTP mode but it just does not work...
I've only got this to work with HTC phones. See my video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhFsBz31-qU
There are other videos on youtube as well . . all using HTC phones.
I've tried my process on a couple nexus devices and samsung devices, they don't work.
Something about the HTC mirrorlink technology thats works perfectly... EVERYTHING works.
So . . . i'm currently stuck using a cheap HTC 626s phone because it works so well with my 2014 Civic si head unit.
Currently looking for a used HTC m9 or 10 so I can have a beefier phone but still retain the mirrorlink functionality.
This only worked for me so far when the ROM is stock. Dunno if has something to do with the other ROMs being rooted.. Researching, because I'd like to have a custom ROM with root AND this working.
I have a pioneer nex and a galaxy s7. The online way i found to conecct was installing sygic car Navigation, the app works with mirrorlink so it opens on the hu, then i just exit the app and boom full mirroing, the only problem is that the Phone stays locked while conected.

Do all your buttons work properly, like the the back button? On Appradio 4 with my s7 edge, I can only hit the home button which takes me back to rock scout. I haven't tried sygic

In mine only the back button of the hu is shown, the others are missing too, so i ve installed a program to simulate the buttons, its called Simple Control.
I've heard that the pioneer is easy to hack, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Linux that these seem to run? Is there a way to trick the car head unit to allow any device with a custom rom to connect to mirrorlink 1.1?
My mass storage device is recognised but the internal SD card in MTP mode isn't. Does Sygic App allow it to connect regardless?
Anyone has skills how to mod car mode app, so it works like RockScout. Apparently it only works on VW mirorlink radios, I have a Subaru with the 7" Mirrorink 1.1 inch unit and it would be nice if this software barrier can be "corrected". I have seen it show car mode when exiting the RockScout app, so I know it works, just that its blocked.
There is a way to root the phone and then install an app that runs car mode, but this doens't work in 1.1 either. I have heard that someone was running CM mod with full mirroring. Any thoughts? There must be a way in Linux to connect and change the connect settings through the app? Is it it android specifiic ie version?

I have the same vehicle. So frustrating to have a brand new car with a perfectly decent screen built in (picture of backup cam looks pretty good) and no ability to take advantage of it. They want us to pay however many thousand dollars more to use their navigation system, which I'm sure sucks out of the box and will no doubt be useless in 1-2 years anyway. It would be SO MUCH SAFER if they let us just mirror the friggin screen. You KNOW it's not that compatibility is complicated. Dicks. (I love my Subaru otherwise )

CM13 (STOCK) - Bluetooth Failed dial up connection & reboot problem

Hi all,
Recently upgraded to Cyanogen 13 (marshmallow) on one plus one and since update Bluetooth connection to car head unit is not stable. I can receive calls fine but if I try to make calls the phone reboots. Happens less if original one plus flip cover is open (sensor not blocked), didn't happen in 12.1 (Lollipop).
Have done the forget and re-pair on both car head unit and one plus, clear cash/data and have done factory reset, nothing works.
Seems to be worse when playing podcasts via BT, not an App problem as all was fine before update.
Have looked through previous posts on a lot of forums, looks like this is not restricted to just oneplus and may be a marshmallow issue. Anyone else experience this and come up with a fix?
Cheers.
I have connection issue too in car, connects for 2 seconds then drops, cannot hold the connection. It worked before I upgraded to COS13. Only thing I've seen is report the bug to developers and hope they come out with a fix..
jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-4733
Same for me. Buetooth connection in CM13 is very bad. Phone reboots... Worked fine in CM12.x.

Same for me, the phone reboots if any call is made through Bluetooth & Car when the flip cover is closed. Looks like a bug is reported in jira, but closed with description as invalid.
Anyone knows workaround?
There is a small magnet about 45mm up and 10 mm in from the bottom left corner of the case, (looked at when the case is open) this interacts with a hall effect device. What I did was tape a piece of mu metal 10mm x 40mm over the magnet in the cover so that the phone doesn't turn the screen off or on when the cover is opened. It needed a bit of experimenting as the first time I tried it, enough magnetism leaked after 30 mins to activate the sensor.

Ran into this on my Samsung S3 running CM13. (Seems to be a core CM13 issue....) Only a problem on my phone when connecting to headphones and speakerphones that have BOTH media AND phone profiles.
The workaround (not great, but better than a rebooting phone) is to disable one of the two profiles in the device-specific Bluetooth settings. Then it only accepts/makes calls -or- plays music/audio.

Android Auto on Galaxy S6

Hi All,
I've just gotten a car with native Android Auto support and I was looking forward to using this.
During the test drive in October 2015 (still on 5.1.1) I managed to get it working but sadly in my new car it's not working.
Due to the great number of variables I'd like to hear your experiences as well. I've tried Noble Rom and Extrestolite with similar results. The android auto app setup screen appears very briefly and then crashes back to the home screen.
I've also tried multiple USB cords to make sure this isn't the problem.
My car is a Skoda Superb with the Columbus infotainment system. This same system is used in various Volkswagen, Skoda and Seat cars.
I would really like to hear if you managed to get Android Auto working, on what radio / head unit and what rom and Android version.
If you had to do any extra steps to get it to work, please let me know too.
Thanks!

Thanks for the help. In the end the solution was both simple and insane.
Turns out it was a problem with the time setting. Even though my car had the correct time set I had to go into the settings of the car and set it to Auto (GPS) and set the correct time zone.
After that it started working and has been working consistently.
