[Q] Vanilla Galaxy S6 - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if i'm posting in the wrong place, but i just have to ask something. When Android M will be out, because it has fingerprint support too, will some developers be able to built a stable stock android rom for the GS6? Or is it just a dream?
Thanks!

Because Android M has native support for fingerprint you expect somebody to build stock android rom for the S6? The two things don't correlate AT ALL. And yes, there will be some AOSP roms for sure, based on Android M.

I was a noob a few weeks ago so I will give you some advice:
Read all you can first, then reread stuff all over again. Development Forum is a good place to start.
"Stock" android always has extras - device drivers for a phone, kernel enhancements, etc. If you are looking for a build without AT&T stuff, then there are some i9000 Roms, that can be installed, but you need to install the Captivate kernel. All of these are development builds and have some bugs. They also are for the EU Galaxy, and they have different Samsung software included as well as different menus.
There are guys working on building a plain vanilla 2.1 ROM with the source code, but it will take some time.

Just because there are some homebrew ports doesn't mean that MIUI is 4.2 yet.

Why does it matter ? We use unofficial ROMs anyway...
sent from me
That's like saying that since a car, airplane, and weed-whacker all run on gas, you should just put the same stuff in each. Actually, the unofficial ROMS is a more tenuous connection than my gas connection. It's more like saying that since a bullet train, horse, and diesel bus all run on fuel, the fuel which goes into each shouldn't matter. It's all fuel.
Hey, you could (please don't) use an unofficial Vibrant ROM too. That's unofficial. What's the difference? The difference is that it won't work. And might brick your phone. That's bad.
Our only current Aries kernel is 4.2.2 and still has issues. MIUI is still 4.1.2 and would introduce an entirely new set of issues tied into GPS, Bluetooth, and so forth if/when a 4.1.2 Aries kernel was compiled. Does that make it impossible? No. But it means that as the build impetus - when MIUI is 4.2 - has not happened yet... it's not a great use of time yet. Unless one of the devs wants it. In which case, MIUI being not-updated is something they don't need to be hammered over the head with.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2313073
4.2.2?
Port. If YOU see source linked from that page so our devs could actually do something useful to build that...
Hi Theraze
I have to disagree with you.
Port is not a dirty word and most of our ROMs are actually ports and not built from source. Furthermore, MIUI ROM is usually ported and not built from source and only recently did Xiaomi open their sources for the public. Even more than that, both MIUI versions brought to us by Beast were ports from Nexus and not built from source.
Now, regarding the incompatibility between kernel & OS - if it works on Nexus, I assume the adjustments were made, so one can enjoy both 4.2.2 & MIUI benefits. There is no logical reason why it couldn't be ported to our beloved device.
sent from me
I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm saying that our build-from-source dev who asked you to let him know when it hit 4.2 hasn't had his request met.
Does that mean that someone (him or another dev) CAN'T port it? Nope. But it makes it a lot less likely that air can just pull the source in and compile it using the Aries bits if the buildable MIUI is still only 4.1.2 and our Aries is 4.2.2 instead.
Again, I think we're agreeing on the general bits... yes, this is possible. But airfluip1 asked to be notified when buildable MIUI was 4.2.2 and that's when he said he'd build it. Not port it.
I don't care if a ROM is ported or built from source.
I will try to play with porting it myself.

no, it wont happen until google releases android l and the only way you will get it is by cyanogenmod 12
I wasn't talking about official support, I was just wondering if there's any talks of it even working on our phones.

I think it is possible because HTC said that M7 will receive Android LOL update. We can then port the Sense7 + Android lol to One S from M7 but just many bugs can be expected. Don't think to use it as a daily drive. Better to wait for CM12.

yes but we need google to release the source code so the cyanogenmod team can start building cm12, the one s didnt even get sense 5 officially

Well android is the operating system used on android phones. Cyanogenmod is a custom rom based on android that offers extra features to the system. Just look on google for what cyanogen has to offer.

Dude,You can't difference between Android & Cyanogen. But i can understand what you are saying.
Android is an OS but you can't say that Cyanogen is an OS .Its a rom which runs on Android OS.
Devices like Nexus ,Android One , Motorola etc have pure android experience rom. In thus particular phones you couldn't tweak it.
But in Cyanogen Mod roms you can customize with various tweaks. Like theming , changing icons , changing fonts etc.

According to performance i recommend that pure android is better than cyanogen mod.
Because pure android didn't have any bugs while in cyanogen i can't say that you didn't get any bugs.
Cyanogenmod adds features to stock (AOSP) Android. Assuming the build is stable, CM won't suffer in performance compared to stock Android. In fact, it might be faster, as updates to the kernel and drivers tend to be more recent than Google's official AOSP releases. Assuming, again, that the build is stable.
What device(s) are we talking about here?
Cyanogenmod is a ROM which adds extra features in your phone like graphics or sound quality is more better but it is only for the routed phones where as original android gives you the ordinary features.

[Q] Experience with LOS-legacy ROMs?

Hi everybody,
I recently got an S6 edge in my hands and wanted to flash Lineage OS (as I'm already familiar to it). I found this site:
https://www.los-legacy.de/
Does anybody know if the ROM developpers are known and if the ROMs are as safe and secure as the official builds were? I would really appreciate an experience report as I am still very insecure about those ROMs.

all custom roms here have three big bugs and that's echo on call, bad camera and battery drain so if use daily then stay on stock rom or use stock based like marduck or ultimate nougat 3.1 is great too which is based on port from s8

Hi becho, thanks for your information. I wasn't aware that the echo on call bug is in every custom ROM - thats a good advice for me. I'll go for a stock based ROM as you suggested.

My roms are safe because they are created with a private key and not with a test key from lineageos.
The builds I currently use are all MicroG builds.
For s6 I don't give support anymore as I don't own the device anymore.
For normal Rom you will find here
Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge Unified Development
For unified AOSP type ROMs, kernels and mods., suitable for multiple S6 / S6 Edge versions
forum.xda-developers.com
And yes look at my xda profile there you will find all my builds that I have published.
