I'm rolling back to KitKat 4.4.4 on my Nexus 5 because, although I loved it at first, I've grown a little tired of the material design. Also, I really miss stable Xposed.
But I want to ask. When I do roll back should I keep the radio that came with the 4.4.4 factory image(version 2.0.50.1.16), or should I upgrade the radio to the one in the 5.1.1 stock image(version 2.0.50.2.26)? I don't want to miss out on any possible radio optimizations from the newer version but I'm also not sure if the lollipop radio would be worse on KitKat than the KitKat one.
PS: I have searched, but all it returns is things like instructions on rolling back to KitKat. Nothing about using a lollipop radio on a kitkat rom.
Radios don't matter. Use which works best for you

Hi all, it's been awhile since I've done any ROM flashing (older phones) so I'm a little rusty now. I'm currently root, unlocked, CWM with stock 4.1.2 (never flashed any custom ROMs on my S3). I'm wanting to get closet to stock 4.4.4 as possible. Can I use the Nexus 5 4.4.4 firmware on my phone? Or will it not work due to it being GSM?
If this won't work, can anyone recommend a ROM of the latest android version that is closest to stock as possible? Thanks.
I wouldn't recommend flashing anything on an s3 that isn't made for s3, unless of course you happen to like buying new phones to replace a brick that you made.

THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Wrong firmware = BRICK
Before you flash ANYTHING read, read, read,...then read some more.

The current CyanogenMod 11 nightly builds for the "d2lte" device are mostly-stock Android v4.4.4 and very solid on this device.
Here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558946
Gummy also runs great. You can find it in the android development section.
I recently swapped out my S3 using asurion (put it completely back to 4.0.4 stock and everything checked out) and the replacement came with 4.1.2 (so thankful :good.
I've already rooted my phone to get my wireless tether back and am looking through a few ROMs.
My question is:
I remember when looking at kitkat roms before I cracked the screen on my old one, it talked alot about repartitioning being necessary during the flash. If I upgrade to a 4.4.x ROM would it still be possible to ODIN back to 4.0.4/4.1.2 if I decide I don't like the new ROM or if I have to send the phone in?
I'm talking about a custom 4.4.x ROM not the stock/Locked BL 4.4.
I did a search and most of the results were for people who had locked BL. I do not :highfive:
Also if anybody wants to weigh in on ROMs I'm all ears.
I haven't found any TW Kitkat roms that I liked, so I was looking at CM11 /AOSP roms.
Thanks!

As long as you don't take any of the locked bootloader roms aka the the new TW 4.4.2 rom or any BL roms you should be ok to go backwards.
From my CM11 S3
Apologize if this has been answered, I quickly looked through the relevant sections and stickies and came away confused.
I currently have a Verizon S3 that has an unlocked bootloader and is still on 4.1.2 (some debloated stock ROM). I'd like to update it to a newer version of Android, but do not want to get rid of the unlocked bootloader. From what i've read, that means I cannot flash any TW 4.4 ROMs.
I'm confused as to whether I can flash any of the following:
- a TW 4.3 ROM, e.g., http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591895
- an AOSP 4.4 ROM, e.g., http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2400577
I have no interest in upgrading to lollipop fwiw
Thanks!
EDIT: thanks a lot, installed the TW 4.3 ROM with no issues

Heh I cracked the screen on it when 4.3 was still a dream, so I gave it to my parents to use wifi-only. For their use (basically chromecast and traveling abroad) 4.1.2 sufficed, but I thought some sort of updated OS would be nice from a security perspective.
Hello,
I own Nexus 5 for enough long time to know how Kitkat worked. There is one thing that has drawn my attention - when I had Kitkat radio running on my phone, the mobile signal was great but after each upgrade to Lollipop and Marshmallow it's gotten noticeably worse. I was wondering, is it possible to install Kitkat radio when running Marshmallow ROM (Cataclysm)? Will that work right away or is there something I need to take care of beforehand?
Yes, it should be possible to run KK radio on M; I'm running 5.1.1 radio on M with no issues.

I didn't try yet.
can't find one that works, especially, since i'm downgrading, i always get the error. ok4 is the best one, since i can go from lolipop to marsh, but does anyone have kitkat one that works?
