I just installed kit-kat on my Sprint SPH-L710 and rooted the phone. I still have the old data on my external SD card. How should I remove that? Should I just erase it or should I reformat it? Do I need to do that in the phone or should I stick it in my pc?
I would suggest moving any data you want to keep onto your pc then doing a format of the SD card. It doesnt really matter if you format from your pc or phone.

is there anything that needs to be saved or can i just go on my computer and delete everything on my sd and it will rebuild itsself? Also is there another way to format my sd card?
I would back it up first but it should rebuild the files when you put it back in.
To partition use this.

Hi all,
Im new here.
The 2GB microSD card on my ChaCha is full at the moment with pictures, apps, games etc and I want to move all the contents to a new 8GB card.
How to I go about doing that? Do I manually copy/cut all the contents from the 2Gb microSD card onto the hard-drive on my PC and then move it over to the new microSD card or do I sync everything to my PC using HTC sync then onto the new microSD card?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
I have tried the "copy contents to computer hard drive then move it over to the new microSD" method and it seems to work just fine. If you are using links2sd/apps2sd scripts, of course they won't work anymore because the computer won't read the ext partition of sd card. Just keep your old microSD as a backup in case the new sd card causes trouble to your phone
Thanks

I'd use my PC to copy everything. It's the easiest way. Don't know any other way, but guess that it's so easy that no one thought of making a tool for it.
When I plugged my sd card to my memory card reader, It wants me to reformat the card to be able to use it. I said ok that's easy because I've tried it before but then It says windows unsuccessfully format the sd card. I've tried a lot of things like using the command prompt, device manager etc but to NO avail, I still cannot reformat it. Now I cannot make partitions for my apps. PLease do help me.. thanks.
HOW CAN I REFORMAT MY SD CARD?
Most likely, you might have write protection on. You can disable it by getting the Micro SD card adapter and sliding it back to off.
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda app-developers app
Or try formating it on android itself.
For me also windows couldnt format but android did it..

Ditto what sanjay said.
I bought a new sd card for my dinc. I tried to format it but Windows said it could not format. I was able to use the card anyway as I later learned that the card came pre-formatted.
Hi. I'm using my SD Card formatted as internal storage and yesterday my phone stop detect it I try to romove and put again, restart phone and it's not work. I have important data on this card, so anyone knows how can I extract them? External reader or something? Please help.
On windows, use EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard
It'll work when I formatted card as a internal storage (when you insert a SD card for the first time on a Marshmallow device, you can choose to either use the card as Portable Storage or Internal Storage)? That's main problem... And if yes, how can connect this card to PC when my phone didn't recognize the card?
I am wanting to use my micro SD as the title indicates without formatting and losing all the data. I Would really appreciate anyone who can help.
I'm pretty sure you can insert the same sd card to any device and be able to access it. If anything, backup the information in your sd card first in case anything happens

Move the files from the microSD to PC then after the files are removed, put the microSD in the new device and format it, then after its formatted, move your files from PC to microSD.
If you don't have a PC, put the microSD in another device then move the files from microSD to that devices internal storage then remove the microSD and put it in the new device then format the microSD using that device, then remove the microSD and put it back in the device that you moved the files to and move the files back to microSD then remove it from that device and put it back in the new device, then you'll have all of your data on that device.
