I was wondering if there was a way to get all widgets to be availible on an non-stock launcher. I am using the Nova Prime launcher, and widgets for Samsung's S-Planner are not showing up in the list of available widgets. Anybody know a way to get full access to all my widgets, on this launcher (I don't have any plans to switch to another launcher)?
(The device is unrooted, if that's relevant.)
If you figure anything out please feel free to share, I've been trying to get my ****ing swidgets to work with now for a long time

I believe they only work on the touchwiz launcher, even if you have touchwiz installed.

I guess our best bet, is for all of us to keep messaging Samsung, until they recognize that enough people want this capability, that they should work at getting it to happen. Another, that comes to mind, is to seek out a ROM, that could allow that compatibility.
For immediate purposes, I imagine that some app developer(s) have discovered this royal pain of incompatibility, and was smart enough to realize that:
A) Very few people actually keep the launcher on their devices as stock
B) Samsung is undisputed as the current most popular Android-device manufacturer, with the highest number of users & sales,
So they released what would pretty much be a clone of these Samsung apps, but with more universal compatibility to other apps. I will browse the market when I have the time. I will, and ask that other users do as well, post the best/most similar/user-friendly/useful/blah of these finding.
otherwise, we may have to set the stupid touchwiz as our default (if we prefer and wish to regularly utilize Samsung's S-planner & other launcher-picky S-widgets) and have the touchwiz default homepages remain relatively uncluttered, except for these widgets, obviously. Then put in an app icon to switch to the launcher you actually prefer most.
OR
I just did a search in the google app market for "launcher switcher". There seems to be a semi-decent number of apps to help make it easy to toggle between the use of 2+ different launchers. Again, no time for me to test them out at the moment. Will also try to report back with anything promising... this is getting to be an annoying obstacle. lol.
If, like me, you mostly just want to be able to be able to keep on top of your S-planner to-do's, & don't have a great need for that apps menu that pops out of the side when you take out your S-pen, then change the s-pen settings, so that S-planner appears whenever the pen is detached.
I just remembered I could change it. for me this is GREAT because I never used that pen-apps popup. Also, I have really bad A.D.D., alongside O.C.D. . The result is that I constantly do ocd things, like put a lot of time into making detailed lists of things to do for the day, and set a stopwatch counter to track how long a task takes me to finish, but then I Always get distracted to the point, that All the time i put into countless overboard ocd attempts to keep on top of things, become completely worthless, because I have great difficulty keeping up any platform consistently. I feel like Sisyphus, rolling the giant bolder up the hill, and having it always roll back down. Anyways, on my Note tablet, I use the S-Pen more often than I use my finger, so for me, This works well.

I guess we all are to some extent or we wouldn't be on this forum reading things like this...
Guys
I was wondering if people would share Xposed modules people use on their S3 and may why.
Thanks in advanced
Wanam is probably the most comprehensive module. It lets you modify a lot of the things you normally find in custom Rom (4 way power, battery, notifications, lock screen).
The second is jelly bean 4.x airplane. Let's apps set the phone to airplane mode. I use it to let apps schedule no network at night.
I run BootManager on all my roms, because it lets you select which apps run @ boot.
GravityBox is a must-have for roms like CM and AOKP, because it lets you mod the statusbar and add a nav bar (if you love it like I do). However, if you have Gummy, SlimKat or many of the current roms out there, you don't need this app's features, because it's baked into the roms.
This belongs in the Questions forum because its a question.

I'd like to point out that Wanam gives an error if you're on an AOSP-based rom, that it only works with TW. Not sure if that's legit or not.
U need Wanam 4.4
I was hoping for a thread like this :good::laugh:
I generally use AOSP roms and Xposed. I have been quite partial towards these three modules but mostly the first two:
1) XhaloFloatingWindow: I like Paranoid Android's Halo and I love AOSP, but not every AOSP rom comes with Halo. Since the AOSP rom I use does not include Halo, I use this module to enable it to a certain degree. The module dev is amazingly responsive to requests and in the short time since I started using this, it has gone from just enabling window pops to allowing customizable and resizable window popups, a title bar to maximize/minimize/close the window, window snapping to left/right/top/bottom of your display, whitelist or blacklist to decide which apps open in Halo popup, and many other features. Even though I do not use features like window snapping or resizing of window popups, the fact that it has expanded from a single use to so much more has made this module truly impressive. This module works best with AOSP and you may have issues on TouchWiz.
Sidenote: This is not an Xposed module, however, the app Floating Notifications allows me to have notification bubbles akin to Halo. What this means is that, instead of pulling down my notification bar to check my notifications, I can view them on screen regardless of the app I am in (or only in user specified apps) and interact/dismiss them at will. Beginning in JB 4.2.2, Google introduced something called Notificationlistenerservice API which allows apps to read and dismiss notification(s) without the user actively opening their notification tray. By using an app such as Floating Notifications (or a substitute) I can view my notifications while using whichever app I am currently in, tap the notification bubble which will open into a XHalo-enabled small window, interact with that notification, and close it.
2) Greenify: this module helps force apps to hibernate. I find that it helps reduce wakelocks which theoretically will not clutter up your favorite battery monitoring app (like BetterBatteryStats or Wakelock Detector) and will give you a little extra boost in battery life. I use it specifically for Google Search cuz in my daily usage, it has the most insane number of wakelocks of all my apps. I can't say that my battery life is miles better, it might only be 20 minutes better than without Greenify, however I have fewer instances where my battery has drained significantly and unbeknownst to me.
3) App Settings: this module allows you to edit the DPI of specific apps. I use Chrome Beta and it only removed the address bar as you start to scroll down. I prefer to have it in true full-screen like the AOSP browser (which removes the status bar) so I use App Settings to force Chrome Beta to do so. App Settings allows you to force portrait only apps into landscape however I find this to be hit or miss on the Verge app which is my only experience with a portrait-restricted app.

Ahh... that's "Wanam Kit"
Do you really need "Multiple widgets" any more if I'm on TW 4.3?

Well I do. I like having the quick camera access by swiping my lock screen because I use a pin lock. Also its the only way to add a 3rd party lock screen widget and I love the cLock app.
One of the things that I loved about my ASUS Padfone 2 was the near stock UI.
The things that got changed by ASUS were mostly very useful, like the clipboard.
If I long pressed a textbox on my Padfone 2, the usual "paste" icon showed up accompanied by a second icon "clipboard".
When I clicked that icon, a panel slid up from where the keyboard normally is, which had the last copied elements as a small preview, with an additional button to edit the contents. In edit mode, I could delete elements or mark them as permanent (I guess the system would overwrite them when the cashe would be full at some point otherwise).
I miss that useful function on my Nexus 5.
Does anyone know a mod or custom ROM that does that?
I have looked into this on the play store, but the apps there require to run in the background or to switch to a third app to access the copied content.
You will have to look at the ROM feature list, but this is the first time that I have heard of this feature. If my memory is correct there aren't any ROMs with the feature but don't quote me. Third party app is your best alternative. This phone has 2GB of RAM it'll be ok in the background.
edit: You could also check xposed or make a request in the xposed thread.
I use clipper which is still a 3rd app but it works well for me. I use switchr to swipe in from the screen edge to access it.

Thanks for the replies.
I am not worried about the RAM running full, but I don't like to have any more notification icons than necessary.
Looks like I'll have to compromise clean look for functionality.
I wish google implemented the way ASUS did it into AOSP. It was really perfect.
Maybe Cyanogenmod will do this.
Thanks again for your comments.
Hi.
I pre-ordered my Note Pro (P905) and it will hopefully arrive next week because the store I bought them from sells them a lot cheaper and it's not a popular model. So anyway, here are my questions.
1. I've read conflicting reports about the on air updates. I've read that it makes the phone act worse (hangs and stuff) that's why it's apparently better to just block it and then use towelroot instead of c.f. root. Is this true? I kind of don't want to trip KNOX but I'd probably be willing to do so after a week since warranty is terrible after that period (Think that it would take months to replace the phone).
2. Since we can modify the DPI of all applications through Xposed modules, is it possible to adjust the grid size of Touchwiz to put more stuff on screen? I prefer using Touchwiz because of multi-window.
3. Tripping Knox is only bad if you need warranty right?
4. The basic things I need to check on the Note Pro are:
A. Try Injustice Gods Among Us to see if blue screen happens on stock rom
B. Stylus test
C. Camera test
D. Phone Test
Is this right? I'm only familiar with the blue screen of death issue on some models.
5. Freezing the magazine module in Titanium Backup effectively gets rid of it right?
6. What's a fun thing to do with my old Galaxy Note 10.1 (2012) 3G once I get this phone?
7. Does chromecast work on this device? I've some reports that say it doesn't.
8. Since there isn't really a custom rom for this device, is it easy to get into? I've coded applications for android and have flashed custom roms for other phones in the past. I'll probably just remove fluff from the system and update the kernel or something.
9. If I use Nova instead of touchwiz, are there applications that can sort of act like multi-windows like MX player being a small window and movable?

Multi window and pen window features got nothing to do with TouchWiz launcher. You can replace TouchWiz launcher with Nova, Apex or what ever launcher you want without losing those features.
1. Most of those issues are related to freezing or not freezing KNOX. (I can't remember which one of the two caused the issue, someone else may be able to fill that in). My DBT p905 is up to date and has no freezing issues. But it's not rooted.
2. MultiWindow (and penwindow) is an overlay app, not part of Touchwiz. The only think that doesn't work properly without Touchwiz is the S calendar widget and MyMagazine. The Spen and everything else isn't related to Touchwiz. You're always better off using Apex or Nova, as they're about 500MB RAM lighter than Touchwiz, and support themes and customisation.
3. Right. And if you want to use the secure KNOX container.
4. The BSOD issue affects the Exynos and AT&T variants, not the p905. You've got the rest covered, pretty much.
5. So does using a launcher other than Touchwiz. My Magazine is part of Touchwiz.
6. I use my old TF700T and Tab 2 as backup devices. The TF700T serves as a 'I can't risk damaging or loosing my NotePro so I'll take this', and my Tab 2 does its job as a navigational device.
7&8. No idea
9. See 1. Multi&penwindow are apps. I use Apex and install it before anything else (I haven't seen Touchwiz since I bought it) and Penwindow and Multiwindow work perfectly fine.
For #8 - I'm not sure about ROMs for the 905 but all I can add since Spere and Shadowlea pretty much have it all covered is that for me it took so long for ROM development that I did a ton of tweaking using Xposed modules and freezing of applications/services using Titanium that once a ROM that I wanted to try did roll around for the SM-P900 I didn't feel it necessary to switch to it. Early on the device was priced high and that delayed development quite a bit. I suspect that form factor is also a contributing factor to lack of development.
You can do quite a bit short of theming with Xposed on these things. Not everything in Wanam's module works (custom color themes for quick settings/notification panel especially) but if you're into rooting there's definitely a lot of potential for customization without ROMs.
7. Chromecast works fine!

I have an Honor 8,chinese version FRD-AL00.(rooted)
The problem is everytime i clear the memory the phone kills the app completely. Ex- the app "messenger" or "whats app" , if i clear them from memory (clear ram on multitask window) i no longer recieve notifications.I have to always leave them opened on the backround.I also tried removing them from battery optimization and it didnt work.

Just lock the app on recent apps windows (a little lock sign on upper right corner with x sign). every time you cleaning apps don't swipe that app you don't want kill.

Man, I am living with this problem for more than half a year. I did find a somewhat tolerable solution - it is not exactly elegant but it might prove helpful. So yes, after playing with every possible parameter in settings , I also came to the conclusion that nothing really helps except keeping these apps minimized in the background. So I decided to just find a way to hide these minimized apps from the "recent apps" so that these don't interfere with my other activity.
Finally, I managed to find one humble app which does exactly that (you won't be able to find it by the name in Google Play, hence I provide the link).
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=comapede.app.versteckeapp
The instructions might not be exactly clear - you have to install the app then access the widgets from your home screen, identify the Hide App widget and drag it on the home screen. At this point you will be presented with the list of all apps on your device and you would need to chose the app you want to hide. After doing so, a widget for this specific app would be created (which looks identically to the app icon but works differently). First, make sure you discard the respective app from the recent apps, then, to enable hiding, every time you launch the app, you need to do it from the created widget (not from the icon). Obviously, you can repeat the action for all other apps you need to hide.
This worked reliably with Nova Launcher on Android 7 (EMUI 5.0) and continues to work after updating to Android 8 (EMUI 8.0). I also have Chinese ROM (not rooted).
As for the reason why this happens - I have no clue. I don't exclude that it is a software bug that is quite rare on honor 8 devices (otherwise I would see more people complaining).
There is an interesting aspect though - while I have been using my FB messenger for a while like this (this was the only way it worked), now I am able to access the app from its native icon and discard it from the recent apps and it still receives messages instantaneously (same about Skype, Viber). (I don't remember if this is related to the update). Yet for other apps, like KinScreen, Light Flow, ACR (Automatic Call Recorder) and many others, if I run the apps from their icons, the moment I discard them from recent apps, they are shut down completely.
Hopefully this works out for your

Yes, this can be really frustrating. For me it has been a series of missed Skype calls, which I happened to discover even after more than a week.
