Hi there,
All you need is in this thread:

Good luck

Thanx for the info, I do not think any of this will work on my phone. from june 2015
Backup is not listed as option unless i use a custom recovery like cwm
installing custom recovery will trigger knox flag and void warranty and knox will wipe it on the next reboot (can be gotten around by disable auto-reboot and booting directly to recovery)
Towelroot says its not supported (only work on older versions from last year ?)
most ways to disable knox requires root , knox will disable any root files one tryes to use

There are many different ways to root an S5.
First of all you need to indentify your exact device model/variant.
The international S5 with LTE is the SM-G900F, the Exynos variant without LTE is SM-G900H, and there are some more carrier specific variants (T-Mobile, Sprint, Verzion, etc.).
Here is a rooting thread for S5: [HOW TO][ALL VARIANTS][19/11/ Gain root, custom recovery, prep for modding on your S5
Keep in mind that flashing a custom recovery or kernel will trigger the KNOX flag.
I have KNOX triggered to 0x1 ... and it's fine for me. But it's your choice.
For rooting with KNOX 0x0, you may have to root with TowelRoot. But this is for some variants of the S5 only. And needs older firmware.
Easiest rooting method IMO is flashing CF-Auto-Root from Chainfire: [SM-G900*] CF-Auto-Root ... but this will also trigger KNOX.
If you habve further questions, just ask in the [SUPPORT THREAD] The Galaxy ~S5~ All in one support thread!**NOOB FRIENDLY** thread.

Reply: Model is SGH-T959, which is TMobile, Galaxy S, Vibrant. Much older than a S5 you mentioned.....like 4 models earlier.
I would choose a simple method given the choice. I am not concerned with a void of a warranty as they are long gone in time. I do not know what a Knox unless that is related to tell of the ROOT against the MFGR.
Thanks for any help!!

BTW the most common rooting methods for the S5 are:
1. KNOX 0x1 way: [SM-G900*] CF-Auto-Root
2. KNOX 0x0 way: TowelRoot (but it may need an older firmware version)

[Completed] How to Restore Galaxy S4 GT-I9515 to Stock

Can you please help me for the following:
Devise Name: Galaxy S4, Made in Vietnam
Model: GT-I9515
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband Version: I9515XXU1ANC2
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-928311
I bought the above mobile in Saudi Arabi which is desinged to work in Middle East & Africa Region only. Without knowing this fact, I sent it to my country (Sri Lanka) where it asked a pin No when they put the SIM. They have tried to unlock it by installing superSu but not worked. So they send it back.
When I tried to put my SIM (mobily-KSA), now it says 'un-registered network' .
So, I removed the SuperSu by deleting the superuser.apk file followed by the Full Unroot option in the SuperSu.
But still it is not recognizing the SIM in KSA. I need to go back to the original Factory firmware and I am aware that
1st - I need to Reset the flash counter
2nd - need to flash the official firmware.
If I am correct, please I need your help with following:
- Which flash resetting software will work for this model (GT-i9515)
- How to reset flash counter in this mobile
- How to install stock firmwares.
Please help me for this.
For your info. Also when I cheked this mobile in donwload mode, it displays the following
Odin Mode:
-------------
Product Name: GT-I9515
Current Binary: Customs
System Status: Customs
Knox Kernel lock: 0x0
Knox warantee void: 0x1
CSB-Config-LSB: 0x30
Write Protection: Enable
eMMC Burst mode: Enabled
Please need your guidance to bring this mobile to stock.
Thanks,

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
Usually OTA's and custom recoveries/ROM's are mutually exclusive (and when they are inclusive, they have no bearing on things like Knox).
This thread should help (particularly post 7):
> Samsung Galaxy S 5 > Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > Galaxy S5 G900FD
I know, you probably already did this. There's an advantage here. If there are any snags, you can post your experience in that thread (or the linked threads) as well (once you have an XDA account). It's a Q&A forum, so your device experts are not far away.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

[Completed] root G920I S6 without tripping knox 6.0.1

Samsung S6
Build id MMB29K.G920IDVU3EPGG
Model # SM-G920I
Version 6.0.1
Have searched through pingpong/kingroot (only 5.x), chainfire (trips knox) and copious websites/tutorials but seem to find that build number is not supported with any root options.
What options do I have to root the above samsung S6 without tripping knox?
Thks
Any info would be appreciated.

Hi and we to xda-assist,
actually your possibilities are very limited as you running a unsupported firmware, the exploits that ping-pong uses are closed on your firmware and I doubt that downgrading is a alternative because once you have the unsupported firmware version running on your device even the bootloader will be upgraded and you can't downgrade without relatively great risk of seriously damaging the phone, if can be done at all.
So next is probably to decide how important root privileges are to you and if you're willing to sacrifice your warranty for that..
I would nonetheless recommend you to ask in this forum again, may be someone with the same device has a progressive idea and can help you further.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help
By the way, it's always a good idea to research the device of interest regarding root & custom roms before you buy it..
Good luck
