Hey guys.. So I've had my inspire for about 2 or 3 months now, and this thing is driving me apeshhh. Here is why...
For a few weeks now, the phone would randomly restart in the middle of doing something, always random. Sometimes while writing a msg in the stock facebook app. Sometimes when browsing market, sometimes when browsing using the web browser. Today I wanted to download Astro to see if the music I put on the phone went to external or internal SD. As soon as the download finished, the phone restarted. After it booted back up I looked through apps, and it never installed. I went back to market and searched it, pulled it up, and it shows installing.... let it sit for 5 minutes... nothing. Restarted, same thing. Pulled the battery... same thing... I can't cancel it, or try again. It will now no longer install anything else.
I figured maybe it needs to download something that it just doesn't have the network speed to use, and trying turning on wifi. IT WONT EVEN TURN ON. Under the settings menu to turn it on, it says error. When i tap on it, the error msg just goes off then comes back right away.
Anybody else experience this? I really wish SOMEBODY would come out with a decent f**king phone on the AT&T network.... I guess I can now add HTC to the list of people that can't build a decent phone. Just below Samsung... (What a POS line of phones they have released).
Anyway, phone is stock, not rooted, nothing turned off, completely stock.
How does the warrenty work now? I bought the phone outright, cash, $500... for this....
Thanks for any help.
Could be your phone mate. I've had this phone maybe about three months and haven't experienced those issues. Just might be a lemon you have. Where did you purchase the phone?

I bought the phone at an authorized AT&T retailer store. The kind you find in common shopping strips.
Try to see if they will give you a replacement

Back up your stuff and factory reset. If that doesn't work then either Root it and try a different ROM or get a replacement phone.
You might want to look at the thread in here about random shutdowns. It looks like the batteries on these phones can be the culprit. My phone randomly shutdown, sometimes restarted. I thought it was a ROM I had loaded at first. The problem got progressively worse no matter what ROM I used. It would do it maybe once a day & then within less than 3 weeks I have to keep it plugged in all the time. It happened when I opened a power-intensive app like navigation or a game. The battery is covered under warranty.
This issue seems to be rather uncommon, but it does exist.
Nothing compared to what Captivate owners went through.
Lemons do happen, but as suggested, I'd try another battery first. If that doesn't solve the problem, there shouldn't be any issue with getting a warranty replacement.
And that warranty replacement will, with near certainty, be a good one. Again, unlike the Captivate.
I've had mine for about 3 months with none of these issues. HTC phones for me have been great. Even their customer service and support if their products. And I have had Samsung, motorolla, and LG none at the same level of build quality. If you continue having problems get in touch with the HTC support they will help if not let u know if you can get a replacement.

I am a former captivate owner. That phone was so bad that it destroyed it's own internal memory. Every app continously force close, every process, upon startup one day. Restored a backup, got nothing, reflashed, got nothing, mounted it and formated it then ran a memory checking utility on my computer with it, and it showed like 46% of the sectors being bad, after then 2nd test somewhere in the high 50s. I promtly punched in the screen and folded the phone in half, and tore it into 2 pieces... So i think that may be why I'm relatively patient with this phone.. (that was also my 3rd captivate replacement). (Debating using a picture of the phone as-is in a DIY to fixing captivates and post it in that forum... get all your frustration out and buy a new phone.. ha ha.)
I will call HTC and see talk to a rep, maybe they know more about the problem and will be able to determine whether the phone or the battery is at fault.
Also, factory reset did not fix the wifi problem. Instead of immediately going back to error under it's status, and spent about 10 seconds trying to connect, then came up with error. This leads me to believe it's hardware related.
I will most likely push for a replacement phone then. I do have a concern with that though... My phone has never gotten wet, and only has a small indication of falling out of my pocket while sitting in a stadium chair (maybe a 12 inch drop onto concrete). Will this void my warrenty? The scar left behind is hardly noticeable, but if they looked for it, it will be seen. Another thing is, when I pull my battery cover off, there are 2 screws along the side, one is covered by a sticker that reads VOID, black sticker with white text. Is that some kind of indicator of water damage? I'm more familiar with white stickers turning red or pink from water damage... and as said, this phones never been wet.
Thanks again for the help.
At&t is usually good about replacing defective phones and will be faster than dealing with htc. You obviously have experience with at&t warranty having owned a captivate.

Those stickers are intact right? As long as their intact and not "punched in," which would indicate a screwdriver has penetrated in order to get the phone open, you should be good, as far as that's concerned.
Uhh well bad luck for you... I dont think this is a common problem...
Im guessing the iphone is on top of your list xD

First of i want to thank the many people on here that have tried to help me fix my problem, from the PM's to the replies in various topics i posted on. Let me refresh you of what was going on. My screen would turn on by itself and turn off after 10 or so seconds and turn on Car Mode while doing this. This would happen at random times, but lately it would do it continuously. It would turn for 10 seconds or so, turn off, then turn right back thus draining my battery in a matter of an hour or so. Also, with this problem the speakerphone would be on by default when i received/made a call since the phone thought it was in car mode. This would annoy the piss outta me!!! I had traded my iphone 4 for the inspire and found myself wondering WTF did i just do. The phone had worked great when i received it. It had the Ingersoll Rom on it but I had wanted something with more eye candy so i installed Coredroid. It seemed like after i had done this, my problems had started...
I installed just about every ROM i found on XDA to see if it was a problem with a flash or something. No Luck. I began to google my problem and found it to be quite common and wasn't related to a specific ROM at all, but no one seemed to have a fix for it. To me it seemed the phone was almost shorting out. So i thought the connection in the usb port was jacked up. I ended up shoving a USB cable from monoprice in and bending it upwards. I suspected that this cable was the culprit so i didnt care if I bent the **** out of it. It worked for maybe 5 minutes or so. That was a big step for me! So after that i decided to use a small flat head screw driver. I took out the battery, micro sd and sim card. I laid the phone screen up on my desk and stuck the screwdriver in the bottom of the usb port and pried up on it rather hard. By the bottom i mean the on the bottom side of the 5 connectors. Thats all! My phone is rock solid again and i don't have to use my Upgrade, which took effect today lol. I am not sure if this is a permanent fix or not and i take NO responsibility if you try this and end up [email protected] your phone up. Sorry for the long read.
Hello All.
I was on a hiking trip which ended horribly with me trudging through a river trying to keep my phone dry.
I Unfortunately wasn't able to keep my phone above water at all times, and ended up dipping it quite a few times.
I turned my phone off previously which did help.
I went home, opened the back up, wiped the water off from inside and stuck it in rice for a few hours.
Alas, the phone was able to charge.
Screen is perfectly fine.
A couple of random reboots, and the phone was working 90%
Wifi, GPS, Memory, etc was all functioning except for the radio.
I've tried different SIMs, but cant achieve any signal from any service provider.
Scanning for them aquires an error instantly, APNs are all set.
Here is a screenshot of what my phone's telling me
I'd hate to ditch this phone due to it's radio not working,
How would I go about fixing this?
I've flashed modems, OS / OTAs, and radios. Nothing helps.
Dialing *#*#4636#*#* doesn't do anything when pressing "Turn radio on"
Any help is appreciated, thank you for reading !
I have same problem but without water. There is a solution?

We're talking about physical damage so there's really nothing you can do apart from having it repaired. You really should have kept it in rice for a minimum of two days.
I have a AT&T LG G3 cell phone that is 16 months old. Never dropped and taken care of no scratches at all. On Tues 7/19 I noticed the phones WIFI was not on and I tried to turn it on but all that came up was a blank page, NO MODEMS, and the phone reads under WIFI "connection not allowed". also at the same time I noticed that the battery is draining very fast even when phone is not in use. Up until this happened the phone was working great. I called AT&T and went through 2 techs to tell me it is a software problem and to Factory reset the phone. I hated to do it but did it anyway a few times and still the same problems.
One time though when I turned the phone back on I had the WIFI and when I looked the page was full of modems and routers in my area. Within a few minutes the phone rebooted on its own and when it came back up the same problems were back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated since I am on a fixed income. I have a warranty but have to put money out of pocket.
I have read some people having the same problem so it is not only me.

Same problem on my D855 ((
Recently, my touch was broken so I replaced with from a shop. From that day my wifi wasn't turning on. But, after sometimes it turn on and suddenly again disappear. So, i go back to the shop and they assemble the phone once again very careful as they said nothing is wrong with the hardware. Now, it worked like 4 5 hours again disappear for no reason. Again i tried many ways search on google tried many solution even factory reset. I tried to drill the battery to zero percent wifi comes back again its gone after some times. Again I visited the shop they try to clean the phone antenna and everything. assemble it careful. Well it runs again and after few hours disappear. So, I tried to figure out what actually the problem. I remove the back cover and try touch the battery couldn't move it as it is fixed with glue. But, whenever I open the cover the wifi doesn't work. But, i try to move the battery and create pressure on it without even turning off the phone the wifi comes back. But, later again after few hours the wifi is gone.
When its gone sometimes it disconnecting and connecting again and again. Sometimes it even couldn't find the signal at all. In my area I find many wifi routers with mine too. But when the problem occur it can't find any network so Its not my router problem and other phone's and laptop are working well with my router.
The problem is that it suddenly disappear with no reason and I have no idea what is the problem ??
can anybody help me to fix the issue ?
