Z3 build quality, custom ROM and software questions - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a note 4, and i really like it but is too big for me
I really need a smaller phone, i have many doubts about S6 over heating even in standby and battery life seems too short
I'm thinking about switch to Z3 but i have some questions:
- does sony has any vocal assistant?
- i read on a different forum about some screen issue, and other faulty hardware. Does Z3 has an high faulty rate?
- is it sony fast on software updates?
- i read a while ago that sony was developing a software to help user easily reset modded phone to stock firmware. Does sony allow modding and is easier than other phones to flash ROM on it?

(I went from S3 -> Z3. Considered waiting for the Z4 but what's the point? It's still all just rumours and when that's out you'll be waiting for the Z5!)
Z3 is the first Android I've had where I don't want to get rid of the UI for stock/CM/Slimroms etc. I need root fairly badly for development reasons, and there's no way of doing that without losing some Sony software, but between the sensible Sony UI and the ability to use adb pm to remove unwanted bloat I have no other complaints at all.

When making statements of this kind, it would help others if you also quoted your source(s)...
Thanks
Coming from S3 i'll receive my Z3 thursday
I made the switch from my S3 to the Z3 yesterday. I am still using my S3 at present because I still need to set it all up and realised (after upgrading) I couldn't root it without unlocking bootloader, which isn't too helpful.
I am thinking of changing my S5 for the Z3
Not had an xperia phone since the first Z, so could be a mistake

I wouldn't. You'd be downgrading the camera, probably a bit of speed and maybe even battery life depending on how you use your phone. Also the S5 is much more comfortable to hold and has a better screen.
I am coming from the S3 and it is a major upgrade! I did install Nova Prime but I do not miss root. It is so fast!

The sony have a better camera overall . The Samsung have a very shaky camera
I came from an S3 to the Z3v. And I never look back on it because of all the attention grabbing how I have one completely unique phone from the rest that's an army of Samsung and Apple.
S3 to Z3.. Not Everyone is in with my Choice. but I've never been happier with an Android Device yet..
Z3 Rocks!
I came from an S3. Write up of my quick thoughts and discussion here on Reddit:

Edit: Still happy with it, but my biggest complaint has to do with SMS/MMS: Sometimes it just flat out fails. Have to go into airplane mode and back to get it working again. (I don't use WiFi calling, so that's not it.) Have tried turning off auto date/time as a possible fix as reported by others. Too soon to tell.
It depends person to person but if you are going to be in a 2 year contract and use your phone "extensively", you will more than likely see screen burn on the S5. Its the nature of organic LEDs. Also the Z3 on manual takes good pics Im sure they will fix auto mode in the new update.
As for battery life the Z3 will have better battery-life every review I have seen says the same, especially in web surfing because on white back grounds AMOLED uses a lot more power than LCD's.
In the audio department Z3 has stereo speakers which the S5 does not. As for the audio jack output both are good.
GSM Arena battery life test results on bottom of each page.

At the end of the day both are good phones though. Try each one and see which suits you as our opinions may not match yours.
I consider my self fairly neutral when comes to phones. I used to tell people to avoid Sony (only the phones) in the mid 2000s (Symbian era) as most of my friends/relatives phones had issues in less than a year but Sony has come a long way and this is my first Sony phone and I am happy.

XPERIA XA battery unable to charge while in use

Hello all,
I've recently bought an Xperia XA and have been satisfied with the device itself, i know its a new phone and we could await some updates, but what i encountered last night made me create an account here and ask.
I was low on battery, basically 1% and attached it to the charger i received with the phone itself, thus the phone goes into normal mode no battery saving or stamina, nothing and no third party apps installed for it. I started browsing Instagram, through google chrome, and even though the phone was charging it couldn't get up even 1% for the time I was on it, basically 30mins almost.
Now, your thoughts, I see on the forums the battery drains fast, cannot basically use it without stamina mode, but do you think that this is 'normal' or should I go back and ask for a different device?
Do you think the updates to the system itself will solve the problems in the future? I was on an Xperia M2 before and was really satisfied, battery lasted whole day no stamina mode, no problem. And from the specifications I read its supposed to have a good battery(XA).
Thank you,
Friction

Not sure about the charging but one thing I never do is use a device whilst charging, there is a known wifi bug that doesn't let the device reach deap sleep on the original firmware are you on the latest firmware version as the wifi bug is fixed and there's a new kernel aswell apparently I also recommend either a factory reset or software repair once latest firmware is available. How is it compared to the m2 as I'm making the same upgrade next week all being well and I'm following everything closely it's a stunning looking device only had a few brief goes with one don't know whether to get black/charcoal one or lime gold one

The current build number is 33.2.A.2.35 and I did do a factory reset since the update but didn't help much. For eg I've taken it off the charger this morning @ 6.00 and haven't been using it much, a couple of viber messages and pictures taken, one short call (under 1 min) basically its on my desk while I'm at work, only chatting with my gf a bit. And it dropped right now to 40% . And it is in Stamina mode, with optimization disabled for viber and whatsapp.
*edit call quality way better than m2 forgot that*
Now compared to the M2, hands down like going from a zastava car(serbian) to a benz i'd say, works flawlessly, the camera both front and back is better than expected, zoom is nice, design and aluminium body are perfect with slight screen curvature. It says mid range but certainly doesn't feel like it. Only issue beside the battery is finding accessories for it, screen protection or casing, at least in Serbia, as it is brand new, most people in shops haven't even heard of it.

Xperia XZ Dual Sim, Is This Phone Worth Buying ?!

Hi All:
I intend to buy the Sony Xperia XZ Dual Sim, I'm wondering how this device is performing ?
1- Any lag or serious issues with the Nougat firmware ?
2- In call voice quality around noise & loud places.
3- Battery life .
I will be thankful for any additional information or advises regarding this smartphone
PadrePio666 said:
No issues, the battery performs better than devices with 3400+ mAh, smooth and even if everyone tries desperately to hide it, it performs better than the oneplus 3 which brags with nerd specs and blablablah , the microphones do their job when isolating your voice from background noise.
However, I suggest you the single sim version since it gets updated faste

I have the dual one and i get nougat same day as single sim. It depends on customization number to get updates faster.
Also the xz dual has 64GB internal memory.

True, but if the guy here prefers stability and rom availability, then single sim is the way to go.

Afaik, you can flash single sim custom ROMs on dual sim but you will be able to use only one sim. And that isn't a big deal if you don't buy the dual version for 2nd sim functionality but for storage (like me).
Stability is the same I guess. Since it use the same SoC.

Still, no sd card if you want to use both sims on the dual sim.

I think I'm going to buy it
Very happy with mine. It feels lovely, it's fast and smooth in operation, battery life is sufficient and call quality is the best of any mobile phone I've ever used. Really, my only issue with it at all is that the fingerprint reader struggles badly if you're even slightly sweaty.

Yep, but you get double the built-in storage of the single-SIM version which in my mind more than makes up for that. After all, if you need two SIMs then the single-SIM version is useless to you. But if you rarely or never need two SIMs, you get twice the built-in storage PLUS a MicroSD card slot. Can't beat that!
In my experience it depends on the price. It's been quite laggy since MM and got much better in the latest N update, however there is some minor lag every now and then but it is FAST. Voice is fine however as in most Xperias the volume can be quite low compared to other flagships. Battery life is average, nothing great and not bad either, i typically get 3-4 hrs SoT and have to charge it every night, sometimes in the middle of the day if there is a weird drain, I used to get 4-5 hrs on the Z3. I would say from the phones that were released this year its up there with the best (S7, Pixel, probably the OP3T which i havent seen or used) with the Pixel being better overall.

Actually I'm interest about Sony Xperia Smartphones because of the Double tab to wake up and turn off the screen.
It really let me use the Smartphone without I have to touch a button, and I feel comfortable with that, plus the Sony Android UI is almost lag free with useful tips and tricks ...............close to stock with minimum bloatware and useful Apps from Sony specially the gallery App .
I'm now using HTC 10, and I'm suffering from the new Sense UI because I can't turn off all vibrations !!!!!
like If I unlocked the screen by using any tweak or fingerprint sensor the mobile will vibrate, If I got an sms in stock app the mobile will also vibrate !!!!
in spite of that I turned off vibration and vibration feedback but still the smartphone vibrate in lot off scenarios !!!!
because of that I decide to go back to Sony with the best UI.

The UI is great yes!
No trouble with dual sim XZ for me, except with DTW, I have to tap many times to wake the phone...
No problem with my Z5 Compact.
Guys plz what about the headphone jack issue in the XZ, is it really break after some time of use ?!
Mine is fine after 3 months of usage ... Headphone jack is no problem
Quick question, is rooting the XZ Dual the same process as rooting the XZ? I'm buying the XZs Dual and I wanted to know if it should theoretically be the same

Backup TA>Unlock Bootloader>Flash TWRP + SuperSu
Xperia XZ Dual is a very good phone. There is only a problem with Android 7.0 update, because of bluetooth connections. I should have not done this firmware upgrade, since they have an android 7.1.1 firmware.

Z5 Problem

hi guys I have a little problem with my Xperia Z5 i don't know if this problem is known
Sometimes the Z5 have a lag issue, doesn't respond touch but the unique solution is turn off screen and turn on.
Any solution?
Thank you for your attention
Well, it's quite normal I guess. Might be just a performance issue if you're running stock. By this time the Z5 is becoming a pretty old device so maybe you should start wondering if you want a custom rom, which could give you better performance, better customization and better battery life.
There are tons of custom roms out there, some examples are CarbonROM, LineageOS, CyanogenMOD if you aren't running nougat etc.
But be aware that having a customROM if not flashed properly could lean towards other problems, it's kind of easy to flash a ROM but just making you aware of the risks.
Search for more information about CustomROMs and all that kind of stuff, but otherwise I don't know if you can do much about your lag issue.
I could be wrong, giving you my personal experience and opinion, I had the same issue and since I got a CustomROM it disappeared and performance and battery life have highly increased.

Best well-rounded phone for TWRP, Root and Custom OS.

Hey all ~
My phone is getting slower (despite flashing it routinely), battery efficiency is dropping and storage gets eaten up fast. I have a SONY Xperia XA Ultra; and it has never really been supported very well in terms of boot recoveries, root or third party OS releases. Volume is capped at 80% on most bluetooth headphones (but not speakers) and smart watch connectivity drops consistently (all problems I had since buying it brand new in box).
I'm considering a new phone, but I would like to know what I should get that has a good following on the forums here. What actively has features being developed for it; such as boot, root and OS releases.
I'm not worried about 5G or tri-camera or fingerprint biometrics; just a well-rounded daily driver.
I used to have a Xperia ZL a ways back (still packed up somewhere); that had a lot of support for it, but my carrier says they no longer offer that type of SIM card anymore.
